    Thanks Pat, I enjoyed this video, as I do all of yours. It’s great to see a fella who has genuine knowledge and interest of Bangkok, a fella who creates original content instead of the countless muppets who regurgitate the same old crap. You do the hot and sweaty hard yards around the city that I love when I no longer can, and I thank you for that. Keep up the good work

      Thanks Dan, l do genuinely enjoy this and l am eager to get to as many places as possible, always something new to discover. There's clearly a market for the repeated content so the usual topics will be always recycled. Must be really boring to repeatedly fake it doing that kind of content!

    Thanks Pat, I live very close to Rama IX/ Ratchada, and again you showed me lots of things I had no idea existed, despite living in the area for the last 16 years. Btw, if I'm not mistaken, Jodd Fairs is the smaller reincarnation of the Rot Fai Ratchada Night Market that used to be located behind the Esplanade Mall just down the street from Jodd Fairs. I heard the new The One Night Market will open soon where the Rot Fai/ Ratchada Night Market was, and dwarfs the Jodd Fairs market in size.

    Probably my favorite area to stay when I'm in Bangkok. Easy transportation options and an abundance of shopping while still being close to many places I frequent. Getting lost in the neighborhood behind Fortune Town makes for an enjoyable and interesting walk in the cityscape of Thai urban culture.

    • @neilrmartin1984
      @neilrmartin1984 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I developed a strange attachment to Sutthisan a few years back, in that I'd rented an apartment one MRT stop further out. When I took the bus home I would ask for Sutthisan because I couldn't pronounce the name of the stop I really wanted - at least in a way that was intelligible to the ticket seller. The more 'helpful' conductors would then ensure that I left the bus at Sutthisan ... From what I remember, there wasn't really a lot around there at that time. But it was certainly very affordable

    Between Jodd Fairs and the G-Tower there are a few levels of huge concrete slabs that take up the whole block, just behind that tin fence next to the small canal. This was meant to be an extension of Central Mall I think but development seemed to stop sometime in 2019 I think. There was also meant to be a huge 110+ floor building next to the Central car park. This building never even got started although they did do all the preliminary drilling and pilings a few years ago. Shame it never got built because it would have been a stunning building and one of the tallest in the world. When did you do this video? I was at Central on Monday afternoon. It's only 2 MRT stops from my condo in Huai Khwang.

    I went there in June. It was an excellent night market. More compact than ratchada so less space to walk around, but many many food stalls and very busy (almost too busy). The public seating is strange though how most of it is lower down, not full height tables/chairs, at least for the ones outside of the stalls. Chinese deserts were the BEST!

      No doubt ! I've been to Thailand at least 10 times since my retirement in 2015 and my fiance ( now my wife) took me around sukumvit ,asok, Rama 9 ,secon sq and many other areas of Bangkok. When I first arrived in sukumvit said " shit girl I thought I was back in Manhattan" or as Nyk'ers say back in the city! Anyway I dig the historical as well as modernized facets of cities. You definitely educate us on that ! In your countryman's linguistic humorous tongue... " For the benefit of the uneducated may I enlightened you " ! Seriously just kidding"mate" ! As in my linguistic slang .. " you keeping it real bruh " ..ok enough with the colloquialisms ... Pat as a somewhat student of history I appreciate the time and effort you put into these educational videos of yours. Accurate and historical they offer a lot to your viewers . So keep up the good work bruh cause everyone needs a bit of " social enlightenment" these days 😉 . Wifey and I will look you up on our next trip to Thailand and drinks are on me dude 😎🙏🙏✌️

    My company have offices here so I know the area well. Fortune Town is at the moment by far the best mall for electronics and more in bkk. Most shops have qualified staff and will help getting you what you need. Central mall is, well just another central mall. Now, Jodd Fairs... the herd is self reinforcing, and youtubers are no different. Except for the hype and window dressing it's average at best. Nothing that stands out here except that a lot of people have decided it's flavor of the month imho. You'll get exactly the same at a myriad of other new style local middle class modern evening markets scattered around bkk. Don't have to trek far and wide these days to sample alive pamuk or goong 😆

    • @BangkokPat
      @BangkokPat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Cheers Tim, I thought the food was particularly good at Jodd Fairs, I'm not a market person myself but quality and choice was good. Bit rammed and not many places to sit. I've been once, and that's enough. I spent more time in the Central car park above getting shots later on. Name one YT channel that hasn't been. I wouldn't have done a video there if I wasn't doing this area. Central is it's usual self but Fortune Town is an Aladdin's Cave for video and audio gear for the vlogger.

    Another great video, kept me riveted throughout. Fascinating mix of old and new. Loads of condos, modern shops, clubs, markets and a great park but no houses with gardens and nightlife which hasn't recovered from lockdown. We see khlongs apparently handling the rain just fine, so has this area avoided the recent floods?

    • @BangkokPat
      @BangkokPat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I see, yes it has avoided flooding. There are houses with gardens down many smaller streets.

    Pat.... Any chance of leaving a link to map of the area like you used to in your older videos ? it helps me get an idea of how i would get to places ! Talking of which .... any chance of making a video on the different train, subway, sky train lines busses and how they interact. can you for instance buy a pass that covers the MRT, Subway sky train ect like you can with an OYSTER in London ? really liked the brief look down the side streets ... Cats and old school ordernery life that is going on behind the glitz !

      Dave, I'll jump in with my experience... I started to look for a condos last month and walked around several neighborhoods of interest, but learned nearly all the condo buildings have security and they asked me to leave my passport before I could go on the property (actually a good thing). When I did get in, there was no one around that knew anything about available units. So, I'm going to use an agent. Bill
