My very first concert, the year was 1973, I was 17 years old, never heard of the first two groups, but we were there for the headliners, Uriah Heep. The first band, was this trio called ZZ Top, a little different and bluesier than Uriah for sure. Time for the next act, ok promoter lets do 180 degrees, Earth, Wind, and Fire. A strange bill indeed. At that time I just was not ready for ZZ Top. But I loved them when I saw them in 2010 Chicago, Claptons Crossroads Concert.
Congrats on 20 k Bob. Great memories. When I moved into my first barracks room in 1975 I bought an 8 track player. Tres Hombres was one of the first 8 tracks I bought.
The Waxwing is revolutionary. I love mine. It's the greatest thing to happen to vinyl since they moved on from steel needles and dogs stared into giant horns.
Great album, I own it, and Fandango, and Rio Grande Mud, and Eliminator, and Tejas, and Afterburner, and Deguello. They were my first concert back in 85 I think, Whenever they toured for Eliminator. I saw them again about 14 years ago. I hadn't been to another concert until this year when I took my 17-year-old son to see the Stones in Vegas. It was my 5th time seeing the Stones. My first was at the Cotton Bowl in 89.
I gotta tell ya, ZZ Top is one of my favorite bands of all time. I've seen them twice in concert and I have most of their music in both vinyl and CDs. They are arguably the reason I'm into music in the first place. Well, that and RATT. I had Afterburner on tape and played it until it died.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Yes it does. I have a used copy on vinyl and of course, the Compact Disc. Andi think I have a used cassette somewhere. That and RATT’s Out of the Cellar I played forever as a teen.

I have the version with boosted bass remixed by Steve Hoffman. That is a good record. Another good record would be a Rhino version of Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs.
Just got the 50th anniversary box set of Argus by Wishbone Ash. I see your beardy bluesmen and raise you by a remastered, but otherwise completely accurate copy of the original vinyl with iconic Hipgnosis cover, live album with flying v guitars and Blowin' Free on reproduction 7inch single. Oh boy, oh boy. Unfortunately we have had a power outage for three days and I havent been able to play it yet.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog The great thing about ZZ Top is they were able to change their sound with the decades. I personally like their 80s synth era more than their original blues albums (although tres hombres is timeless) so even if you aren’t a super fan they can still rock the house down if your tastes vary. Was fortunate to see them live twice.
🎉 Congratulations Bob! Besides the original I bought when it was first released,I have a 2018 Rhino Limited Jalapeño Green addition with the Warner Brothers label.. I believe I’ll need to add another Tres Hombres to the collection..
Hey Bob, Congrats on reaching 20K subscribers. You've earned it baby! I have the original Tres Hombres album from 1970 something. I believe it cost about $4 at the time. I too crossed paths with Billy Gibbons once. He and I were going through security at the Memphis airport. As I remember, they made him open up his guitar case. Any way, please keep up the good work and enjoy yourself.
I bought some reel to reel tapes the other day. One of the ten inch reels had a 1983 off the air recording of a Cincinnati FM station doing an extended program called "ZZ Top, from A to Z". I listened to a little of it but the tape was really dusty due to storage or something and got my tape deck all dusty. Maybe it was Texas trail dust.

Tres Hombres is probably the only ZZ Top album you must have. It is a perfect album with no fillers. If there's another, it's got to be Deguello... I don't consider Eliminator a crucial album because it was overly commercialized through MTV way back in it's beginning.

Try to pick up a 1982 "Oh no, it's DEVO" if you can. It sounds like a remaster compared to all the other originals. They aren't very expensive on ebay even in EX+ condition. Been listening to this album for over 50 years, had the original pressing (until my son 'borrowed it' and left it at a girl's apartment...). La Grange is the highlight of course but "Master of Sparks" has one of the most bad-a$$ed beats ever and the way Billy kicks down the door with his lead is still my favorite riff of his. Besides seeing them 4 times (opening for the Stones was great but they sounded the better in Shreveport a few years earlier) my closest contact with them was being a three-piece blues band myself in the late '70s-early '80s and playing at a festival with Dusty's brother Rocky, who was a phenomenal guitarist and had an incredible band (with the "world's ugliest keyboard player'..!!). Good times.
Commanding people to buy an album, claiming we need to buy this, even in jest, that is what puts me off in vinyl recommandation videos.
