    Fantastic video! Thank you so much for running these tests saved me tons of time and money!

    Shocking that I didn't comment when I first watched this - this is SO good

    Great work. To me WWC does seem to give great growth, but I REALLY think that AB+ looks much better. WWC seemed to cause them to get a little more pale. Also you have INCREDIBLE polyp extension. Nice job.👍🏾

    Hey love the videos! Keep up the great work!
    When you were switching from AB+ to WWC did you maintain the same level of par. By cutting out some of the channels I imagine overall par would drop?

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't account for par to mimic the WWC schedule - > they don't increase the intensity of the blues; they just drop the whites and the greens; this results in a drop of PAR i am sure when the whites are off for half the day

    amazing explanation. in your opinion for a full sps dominated reef tank 48"x22"x22" how many radion g5 blue should i use? three xr30 or two xr30?

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Giuseppe. thanks! The usually recommendation of 1 xr15 every 24" is only good for LPS in my opinion. I went with 1 xr15 every 12" for my redsea reefer 250 and i found it to be very effective for wall to wall SPS. People have mentioned that his was overkill. I certainly wouldn't do anything less than 1 xr15 every 18". in your case, i think 2xr30s would be great.

    I wonder in WWC runs the blues in their show tanks during later buisiness hours to increase coloration and sales and if they run more whites in their grow-out tanks that aren’t in the customer’s view.

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perhaps… I could also be that they run the blues while customers are in because / as you know / the uv and blue make some fluorescent pigments pop… I think that is why people perceive that corals are more colorful under uv… it’s not a real color change, but rather, you just see more subtle fluorescent pigments that are harder to see under white light

    where can I read up on the WWC blue method? is this a program that they run on Radions? or a method on photoperiod. Sorry about the dumb question but I usually build my own lights.

    Thanks for doing the expriment! Just out of curiosity how does the WWC compare to the Pirates of the Carribean schedule? They sound pretty similar, I have a customized version of the Pirates that gives you a more appealing viewing experience if you were interested.
    Usually from what I am reading the white light is the easiest way to just boost PAR too if you are struggling with that so likely the increased white time gives you more PAR too. idk

    • @TheBioReef

      The Gen 5 blues are tunes so that running all the channels at 100% = AB+ , which i originally and for 2 month after switching back from WWC

  • @Ellery-USA
    @Ellery-USA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great job with the comparison. Normally the growth rates under the old Iwasaki 6500K MH were way better than just blues in the past so this is an interesting 180 from that experience. Have you noticed any increased Alk /Ca Consumption between the 2 periods? Just noticed you changed your channels name so may have missed some videos.

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. Yeah consumption has be constantly going up but it is hard to make sense of that data, as you can, my corals are getting bigger and the bigger they get; the faster they consume alk (more branches, more points and plans of expansion). I did see an initial jump in alk consumption when I switched to wwc. The consumption didn’t go back to normal but increased a bit after going back to ab+, but the corals where already big at that point. That is why I did the growth test with the slimer frags as it is a more fair comparison I think

    Did the results from wwc coming from the blue time or because during the white time the whites are more intense in the wwc? Wich wwc program did you run the 900 or the 1500programm?

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry - not sure I understand the question. My wwc program is essentially the same as the ab+ program but for the main plateau of the schedule, I cut all white, red and green channels to 0% for 50% of the day; there is an example of what this looks like on mobious in the first vid. The results in terms of pictures of sps were take at my standard photo spectrum, which you can see in my radion gen 5 video review. So both the ab+ and wwc pictures where taken under a white spectrum that allows my camera to auto white balance without turning everything blue

    • @tomg5405
      @tomg5405 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheBioReef when I download the wwc schedule I see that yes they turn off the white red and green half day but in the other phase the white green and red are higher than in the normal ab+ Modus wich they are only at 24%. If you also not adjust this than you may run a different spectrum 😬 maybe you just created your own that work even better 😁

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomg5405 i wasn't actually able to downlaod the WWC spectrum from anyone, i just saw what they were running from a video that BRS did, and replicated that by turning down anything but blues for the half of the photoperiod... note that depending on the light you have (gen 5 blue, gen 5 pro, or gen 4 pro), the % on the channels needed to get the AB+ program will differ. But in theory, if you start with the AB+, as programmed by your lights, you should be able to easy get the WWC spectrum by cutting all white, green and red channels to 0% for half the photoperiod

    I always thought white light would grow them faster.. like Abe’s test with 6500 k ge bulb

    • @TheBioReef
      @TheBioReef  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah… I think the more blue lights offer higher PUR thereby allowing the corals to make more use of the energy from the light for
      Photosynthesis. It could be that the whole lights lead to some kind of saturation or photoinhibition. Not sure on the mechanism.

      Oh man.. I didn't realize you were azul. You Changed your name.. I've been looking for your old videos and your old TH-cam profile. I follow you because you and I have the same tank with the same lights with the same goals. I haven't gotten any sps yet because I feel my tank is still too immature. It's 8months old. I was going to wait until I hit the one year mark to start sps. So my problem with the abplus program is its too white. The colors of my lps corals don't pop with this program. Maybe the wwc will be better. I have torches acans and blastoma for now. How can I make abplus darker and bluer without loosing par
