    Last year when I was suffering from depression I found you here on YT and literally got motivation to take care of my mental health. So I started a therapy, got better AND I am also a medstudent now! Yay! Thanks for sharing your videos with us! You're such an inspirational person!

    • @rwinkler4321

      Hm. German med student here! During the last months, I feel like I have started getting problems with depression, too. I have no diagnosis (since I haven't been to a doctor) and am afraid that I am exaggerating my issues/ don't have legitimate depression and am just lazy. Basically afraid that a therapist wouldn't really take me seriously.
      What was going to therapy for the first times like?

    • @doggyluver210
      @doggyluver210 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Therapists WILL NOT judge you! If you feel like you need help, you don't need to be "diagnosed". I had very minor mental health problems for a few months but refused to get help and it got terrible. So don't delegitimize yourself. :) I thought I was crazy the first time I went to therapy but honestly, it has been so helpful to have someone to talk to and get advice from. Even if it turns out you're just stressed out, having a therapist is still very helpful- you don't have to have mental health issues to go to therapy. Anyways, hope this helped!

    • @emis4608
      @emis4608 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Don't be afraid, Robert! They won't judge you because it's their job. Make a research and find specialist with highest rates. Maybe it will sound stupid but I was also looking for "kind" face - this made me feel more comfortable. First appointment can be kinda awkward. But really - think like you are not the first who deal with this problem. You are not alone with it and therapist is here to help you. I also had same problem with feeling that I'm just lazy. Look for other symptoms. Depression is not only or at all about beeing lazy. My depression was like: I was just focused on studying to keep my mind busy from overthinking. I was sad all the time I mean I felt lonely even if I had people around me. I was really tired all the time. I was sleeping over 12h per day and still asleep. I decided to make an appointment after first suicide thoughts. And I'm glad I did. I was sinking in my own condition but therapy and medicaments helped me. Depression is caused by ill brain. Brain is an organ. I you have sick heart or lungs - you go to specialist. So now go to "brain" doctor. Even if it's not depression - noone will judge you. Prevention is always better than complications. Greetings from Poland! :)

      Unexpectedly I became depressed during first year of college. Went to an internist who examined me carefully and prescribed a strict exercise program. That did the trick for me. Was soon on the dean's list, climbed to a 4.0 index and was really enjoying myself. Took the MCATs (no specific prep.) and had one of the highest scores in the country. Went to a great med. school, graduated in the top 10% with honors. So, the moral of all this is that depression can be just a bump in the road. Get help. Treat it, hopefully without drugs, and then go on to the great things of which you are likely capable. Oh, and have a ball in med. school. It's a GREAT experience.

    I've been working midnight to 8 am every night for 3 years now, pro tip: wake up early the day you have to switch schedules and then take a nap at about 7-9(depending on how experienced you are lol) And then just wake up and do it to it!

      Hey Shawn!
      As a fellow beard enthusiast who's going to start Med School next October, what are some unwritten rules regarding beards you can share with us? we're talking trimmed of course, but still. Medicine is pretty old-fashioned in certain aspects and I was wondering if it was possible for it to be deemed unprofessional.

    • @beardsscrubs3062
      @beardsscrubs3062 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Congratulations on starting medical school my fellow bearded brethren! I came into med school with a manbun and beard so I was definitely not old-fashioned. But I have never had any problems/complaints. So just keep it clean, kempt and trimmed- and you should be fine! Hope that helps and best of luck!

    I'm not sure if you read old comments, but I just wanted to give you my two cents about the Muji scissors you have in your white coat; I don't think those Muji scissors would be much help to you in the hospital! I've gone through two of those same pair and both times the blade wasn't sharp enough to cut through most fabrics and even some paper. It's cute and a nice idea, and I love most Muji products, but I just wouldn't recommend those scissors for much! I know you said you have your shears as well, just thought I'd let you/anyone reading this know that those scissors won't cut it in most emergencies.

    I feel like these little guidelines books are great, but I would feel extremely awkward actually having to refer to them in front of a patient. So do you just tell a patient to wait for a second, while you get out the book and read what you should do?

      I don't think age should be a factor in determining if to apply to medical school. I am currently in medical school and in my class there are older students than 25. I think if you have the drive and understand what this journey entails you should go for it!

    Hello there! I’m only in 8th grade but our school is really interested and pushing us into what we want to be when we get older. Ever since I was little I wanted to go to medical school. The only thing is I’m not sure what I want to go for. Also schooling years would be a decent amount. Not like 12 to become a doctor. What are you going for I’m med school and what kinds of stuff do you deal with? Also how many years do you do it for. Not to be nosy or anything but what will your income be when you finish college and get a job at the hospital?

    Do the ED doctors only do 8 hour shifts as well or is it just medical students? Just interested as I'm a doctor in the UK and our on call shifts are 12-13 hours

    Hey Jamie! I have recently begun creating a pre-medical related blog. I've been enjoying the process, even though it's in the very early stages, but I have been hesitating to post anything regarding things I have seen in hospitals due to HIPPA. I was wondering if you have ever come across this hesitation, and what changes you may make to content. Am I safe in assuming if no direct patient information is contained, I can talk about a case, including chief complaints and findings? Or are those two things, once connected, consider a violation of privacy? Am I allowed to discuss what a CT or X-ray showed if, again, detailed patient information is not shared? I have been searching the internet endlessly and can't find anything to solidify my assumptions as correct. I would hate to make a mistake due to misinformation. Thank you for your time! *If anyone else wants to weigh in, I would appreciate any input.

      I have an internship at a hospital and I was told that I can share case details with family and friends as long as I do not mention the patient by name.

      Stethoscopes and Isotopes From my experience going through several rounds of HIPPA training both at school and work it's okay to discuss patient cases outside as long as you don't use any type of identifier. Aka any type of information that could lead to some one figuring out who the patient is. For example if you say: " I saw this patient who came into the hospital with a left femoral fracture and the X rays showed...." that's not a violation because that tells you nothing about who the patient is or could be.

    This may be a dumb question, but do you get paid in medical school?

      POOF! 96 no you usually pay a tuition, just like in your undergraduate years. After medical school you apply for residency and start working for a smaller salary until you take your boards to become a board certified physician
