I occasionally pop in to binge a little bit, too, when there's nothing new to watch like right now, lol. I miss his playthroughs, too. But, I get why he's no longer doing anything, of course. I'm busy all the time, myself, so I certainly know how it is.
I like the similarities between Cut Man and Mega Man in a lot of different media. In the Hitoshi Ariga manga they are the same base model and can swap the Rush Jet adapter suit, and even in this first game, Mega Man and Cut Man seem to be the only two Robot Masters who recoil when they are damaged! Such great little details!
Great point! For me, the Genie was essential to preserving the physical state of my favorite games. Especially against the infamous Yellow Devil, when defeat seemed imminent, I would respond to my anguish by yanking the cartridge out of the console and chewing at the plastic and label. At five years old, I knew no better method of instant catharsis. Twenty years later, I'm left with dented NES cartridges, a devaluated collection, and crooked teeth. You win again, Yellow Devil!
Oh wow, you seriously deserve so much more views/credit than this. You have a few basic ingredients that many gaming videos lack; you have a crisp and clear voice which makes it really easy to understand you (for people like me who's first language isn't English). You also have a lot of humour and knowledge about the series. This combined with you being very professional and staying away from bad language makes your videos a real treat. Many TH-camrs today seem to have a bad mouth on them as part of their "act" but with you it seems like this is just you talking to us while playing, not really acting at all. I know this is an old video, but please keep them coming!
Thank you very much! I suspect I'd get more views if I uploaded videos more often; sometimes a couple months can go by before I'm able to post something, and many viewers aren't patient enough to stick around for more. Still, I'm glad to hear you enjoy my style! I appreciate your kind words (and honestly, I never would have guessed that English isn't your first language).
+GeminiLaser Well, I'm from Sweden but we have a great educational system which teaches English from 1st grade (at least in my school), as well as loads of English tv-series etc. so we are priviliged in Sweden. Most people know at least basic English here :)
Holy. Shit. I just graduated and saw this in my recommended, instant nostalgia overload. When I was a kid I would spend HOURS (or what felt like hours) watching these playthroughs. I would tell my friends on the playground when a new let's play happened. Your quick wit, tight style, and focus on pure data and commentary on the gameplay filled my mind with just the right amount of infotainment to pacify me for an entire day. Nowadays? It's the exact same level of perfect to my mind. Now, I'm gonna go smoke a bowl and let myself drift along to an old friend's voice. Thank you for the good times GeminiLaser. p.s: Cant wait for MM8 ;)
I've been watching your stuff for years. I've now just come back to say this... Thank you so much for the videos I truly appreciate it and no matter what I'll always be a fan of your channel.
you really help me with things, a LOT... and for a weird reason i dreamed i waz playing megaman while you helped me! i watch you videos at least 1 time a week - or more!
One thing i love about mega man 1 is the theming with the bosses. Later games have robot masters just for the sake of strong guys you have to fight, but in mega man 1 it's very clear that these are Strong versions of Mega Man. None of them are really physically big, save for gutsman, but they still manage to be intimidating because their default weapon is so much better than yours. that really contributes to the theme of mega man getting stronger over the course of the game
yeah, in 4-6, the robot masters are a lot less meaningful, especially when you compare the weapons they give you to the destructive power of the mega buster. the special weapons stop being important and start being sort of a backup for specific situations of course in 6 they sort of improved that, but i was mostly using jet adaptor at that point anyways
I've known about Mega Man 1 almost since it came out, but here's something I discovered only a few years ago, from watching a speedrun of it. With the Magnet Beam, you can actually increase the length of the beam by holding down the shot button; the longer you hold the button, the longer the beam. What's more, the beam will move with you if you hold the shot button down while jumping. The problem with doing this, though, is the Magnet Beam's energy depletes more quickly this way.
I don't know why but whenever a new video of Gemini lasers comes out I always drop whatever else im watching and watch the new vid I guess its the commentary and the fact that he knows all the secrets and I learn tecnices he uses and there fun to do yourself
Fire kills the Picket Men in one hit; I only know about this because of the Legacy Collection's challenge mode, as going to Fire before Guts is really weird.
listening to Nathaniel's voice makes me remember younger days. i watched all his videos that were out back to back and anticipated Megaman 7 videos more than any before. which is kinda wacky.
Probably 90% of what kills me in Mega Man 1 isn't the robot masters or enemies, but the stage hazards. Plus the controls feel kind of sloppy compared to the later ones. I still like it though, and without it, we wouldn't have 2-7(I don't talk about 8 :D ).
Heh. The control is a little slippery, to be sure, but it's also way better than most of the other platformers of its time. We're just spoiled because the controls are PERFECT later in the series. The stage hazards in this game mean business, a lot more so than most of the other games'.
Back then when I really had NO idea what the NES and the Mega Man Series is ( I am 16 right now, no wonder, eh? ) and I started Mega Man 1 for the first time, I started with Cut Man, just for the fact that he is the one who is automatically selected when you load the Stageselect-Screen for the first time ( not sure if he's the first one everytime ) so Cut Man became the most nostalgic Robotmaster in the Mega Man universe for me.
Totally starting here and trying my best to ignore that that shiny new video with a 7 and a 1 in its title exists until the whole game is up... 4 minutes in and I can already feel my resolve dropping...
This is about the upteenth time I've watched all your Megaman Playthroughs, each time I've watched up to the latest ep you had out, (i found out about you when you were still making MM6 episodes through TH-cams recommended video thing). The reason I watch through these a lot is because of the perky and silly commentary as well as the silly offbeat things that you do. I have a lot of issues right now and whenever I feel down I like to watch these playthroughs, because even though I know a lot of what he's going to say or do, it's just the way he speaks or reacts to situations and just the general silliness that cheers me up a bit.
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoy the videos, and that they're a source of good cheer. Stay tuned; unless absolutely everything falls apart or my perfectionism gets the better of me, you should have the first MM7 bonus video within the next two weeks, with another one hot on its heels. And even though I'm basically a stranger, you're always welcome to reach out to me via PM or e-mail if you need somebody to talk to; I know what it's like to have a lot to deal with, and the more people you have supporting you in some capacity, the easier it gets.
No harm, no foul. A lot of TH-cam LPers use save states to simulate a "perfect run," but their efforts end up looking rehearsed and inauthentic, lacking any spontaneity or color. Save states are not inherently evil, though. Here, you used them to expedite the recording process, and I don't see anything wrong with that! Good run, either way. When I was younger, I used a Game Genie to get through this game; it's nice to watch someone play through it without cheat chodes.
In the original Mega Man, you can play levels as many times as you want. I played Elec Man's level twice, in a one playthrough, without Super Arm. First time I just played a level, and the second time I returned to get Magnet Beam by using Thunder Beam. I wen't for Guts Man afterwards.
I like going to Fire Man's stage first, you still get a strait play through although Fire Man is fairly challenging without a power, but the good news is the fact that it's broken and quite helpful for the rest of the bosses.
It has now officially been 9 years since this video was released.(I posted this comment on March 20, 2018. Just in case anyone from the future sees this.)
Fooled you! My sixth anniversary was on February 28th, according to my About page. This video is actually a higher quality reupload of the original version, which has since been deleted, hence the later posting date. But thanks just the same!

Thank you! It took a lot of trial and error to figure out the best way to map out my commentary, but that's the benefit of recording the audio separately from the gameplay. ;)
Oh yeah for sure, that's a great tip. I do the same, but I chop the video to match the audio - that makes for a jumpy video that's OK for a game review but bad for a let's play style product. I like that you managed to keep a continuous gameplay video but also pack commentary to fit so that you don't have long pauses or filler in your narration. So awesome - must have been tough!
A mi tambien me gustan mucho todos los megaman de NES 1,2,3,4,5,6 y de snes el 7, X, X2, y el X3 son excelentes!! Tus videos son geniales!! Saludos desde El Salvador!! :D
I remember I got Megaman on VC and tried Cutman's stage 1st. I spent about 2 HOURS getting to and beating Cutman and then FINALLY beat him with one tiny bar of health left. So the weapon fell and one of his boomerangs came back and hit me as I was about to reach the weapon and I had no lives left so I was really willing to throw the Wiimote through the TV.
my God when these were new I was like 5 or 6 and I watched them on the Wii in my room, I haven't subscribed until now since 1, I forgot about this channel until now since it's been years, and 2, I couldn't subscribe on the Wii. I was just playing some MM7 and I was reminded of tour videos, if I remember correctly, I watched your MM1-6 Because you hadn't started 7, but I'm just taking a trip down memory lane.
personally, i use to start out with cutman, until i got annoyed about having to go back to electman's stage for the magnetbeam and losing lives just 4 the weapon. this is why now i take on guts man first, you can do decent dammage to him with the buster and take him out, the only setback is if you dont know how to dodge his attack very well cause you keep getting stunned by the vibrations he makes when he stomps the ground, then your more than likley to die.
Yes, but the Anniversary Collection is not an exact copy of MM1, 2, and 3. It was maybe left for laziness sake. Who knows? But it is the Plasma Blaster in the first 3 games.
Something I wanted to mention for Gutsman (watching these again because I'm easily entertained too :D XD), which I don't think you said anything about here or in Wily Stage 4 (feel free to rub in my failure if this is not the case @_@)... Myself, I actually find it -easier- to dodge his thrown rocks if I simply stand there and let Mega Man fall on his rump when Gutsman does the earthquake stomp (long as he's not really close). No idea why it works, but it does. Oversight, or intentional? Hmm...
Firstly, those notorious disappearing bricks will always get you! Always... Anyway; secondly, the theme for Elecman's stage has been parodied many times!
It's not just the Super Arm; if you ignore "Normal Mode" (read: Easy Mode) in the International version of MM2, Cut Man is the only robot master in the entire franchise to take 3 damage (as opposed to 1 or 2) from an uncharged Mega Buster (MM4 isn't the introduction of the Mega Buster, it's the introduction of the NEW Mega Buster). Why would Cut Man be weak to the Mega Buster? Well, see, Mega Man's real name is Rock...
Hey, Nathanial, can I make a suggestion/ask a favor? Would you consider making a grand playlist containing all the Mega Man vids in one so that I can, like, put it on and just listen to it all day without having to manually change playlist per game?
Hmm... I definitely see the merit of such a playlist, but I'm a little OCD about not duplicating the videos I have in my playlists. There's also the question of whether I do all the playthroughs and then all the bonus videos, or keep every game together. Fortunately, you can create a custom playlist of your own and add my videos to it as you please!
How much did it cost? What do you think is a good price to buy the game. I want it, but I wonder if it's worth a fortune. How much would you pay for it maximum? Please reply! :)
well I think it fits here since mm1 is probably the most unplayed mm of the NES. For me personally mm7 is also a new arena since I never could bear more than the neverending intro(+intro stage)+1 robot master stage :D
if you want to beat the game without returning to elecman's stage, you can start in 4 places. guts man, bomb man, fire man, or ice man. and you're probably not going to start at ice man. kind of strange how cutman is always considered to be sort of the First robot master. yeah, he's maybe the easiest robot master, with the best robot master stage in the game, but if you go to him first, you either have to go out of order (which is fine, because bomb man is a pretty good place to go from there) or go to elecman's stage, and not get magnet beam.
Strangely enough, I ALWAYS start with guts man. Aside from the beginning of his stage, it's pretty easy, and i can't really think of anywhere I'd use any of the robot master weapons.
Anyone else binging all the old Gemini laser playthroughs? Been a long time since I watched these last.
I occasionally pop in to binge a little bit, too, when there's nothing new to watch like right now, lol. I miss his playthroughs, too. But, I get why he's no longer doing anything, of course. I'm busy all the time, myself, so I certainly know how it is.

I do that sometimes. :)

Rolling a die to decide boss order? I love that idea!
It certainly keeps things interesting!
Why are there two blocks in Gutsman's chamber?
I enjoyed the hell out of this playthrough. Great commentary, great gameplay.
When you think about it, between stages is where you would end up after getting a game over anyway, so still pretty much a legit runthrough

Time to do a marathon!
I love marathons! And the bonus videos (plural) are on the way, I promise!
I'd say that if you started at Cutman and went in anti - clockwise order of the bosses it would work well
I always start with Fire Man because his weapon is really useful against lots of enemies.
That's one of the reasons I tend to start with him as well!

Fair enough.
How much did it cost? What do you think is a good price to buy the game. I want it, but I wonder if it's worth a fortune. How much would you pay for it maximum? Please reply! :)
Any of the classic series would've good as an arcade game.
Also, I'd like to see Megaman in Super Smash Bros. 4.
It's that time again!
This dude was my childhood
Owner of a d8, huh? Could that mean...?
what a classic video :]
well I think it fits here since mm1 is probably the most unplayed mm of the NES.
4:50 Am I the only person who gets the reference?
I mean, I get the reference.
dude awesome..the D6 D8 idea is rad ahhaha
Can't wait for the megaman 7 vids
You beat Cutman in 1 try!?
Thats amazing!!! It took Captain N The Game Master 25 tries to beat him!!
i know this is REALLY OLD. but..... THE DEADLY CUTSMEN
Paper Man?! YOU KNOW CAPCOM LISTEN! DID YOU NOT LEARN WHEN THEY RELEASED SHEEP MAN?! *cries in terror at the advent of Paper Man in Mega Man 11*
3?
@GeminiLaser I go to either Cut Man, Guts Man, Bomb Man or Fire Man first. Never Elec Man or Ice Man though.
This game is my fave game!
We get it Gemini, megaman 1 doesn't save your data, it's not cheating if it's in other megaman games
Yay! cutman got i a hit! my rant about megaman classic games told you its one f my favorite bosses!
He's just that good.
Strangely enough, I ALWAYS start with guts man. Aside from the beginning of his stage, it's pretty easy, and i can't really think of anywhere I'd use any of the robot master weapons.
Do wugawuga wars plz!
