Our camera follows officials of Prince Ranariddh's Funcinpec party as they are secretly smuggled out of the country. After a dash to the airport by car, Funcinpec Head of Security Hong Dar waits nervously as his false papers are checked by airport officials. Like many others denied assistance by foreign embassies in Cambodia's latest crisis, this is his only way out, convinced he'll be tortured and assassinated if he stays. Another fleeing Funcinpec official, his face disguised, tells how Hun Sen's soldiers came to his house and shot his wife. He too is smuggled out the same way. Surrounded by security guards, Hun Sen states he has "no regrets" in using force to oust rival Prince Ranariddh. Press reporters asking unpalatable questions are quickly shoved out of the crowd. Senior Funcinpec member Ung Huot admits Hun Sen approved his appointment as new First Premier. He promises free elections despite suspicions he's merely a puppet of the CPP. Can Kim lost two children when a shell hit her home. Her youngest child, still wounded, strokes her mother's face as she weeps. Human Rights Lawyer Brad Adams says Funcinpec fears are well founded.

I was in Phnom Penh during this coup. Very frightening as we didn't know what was going on or how it would end. I remember the airport. I could have been evacuated but managed to get a Vietnam Airlines flight to HCMC instead. Tragic to think that Hun Sen is still in power.

I want to congradulate Jouneyman TV for excellent reporting. Not many foreing reporting get it right about the situation in Cambodian. The translation is excellent and it is from the mouth of Cambodian people.
A very risky but fulfilling documentary about the war crimes that continues in Cambodia today....
I love Journeyman Pictures' work but they really need to learn to exercise some CONSISTENCY WITH THEIR SUBTITLES.
As in HAVE SOME. I don't speak ANY Mon-Khmer language.
Cambodia you will get better and better its takes time for a country that have been through so much to recover but you can do it. Vietnam is recovering from the war and we expected to be developed by 2050 and you might get better.
I heard Hun Sen have a heart attack or stroke yesterday and he died in Singapore hospital.
My dad told me that they were given a pile of poles and some tarp and were told to build their own shelters, the Red Cross provided food, and the Thais just told them where they could camp and where they couldn't, if they wandered off too far the Thais would drag them back to the camp and beat them.
sad , hurt and seem never end there's nothing to be heal..... cambodia gone forever only memories is remain in our heart.

In this footage, they forget a couple of things. The men that were fighting for Fubcipec are Khmer Rouge who were smuggled from Pai Len. Also, the types of weapons CPP and Funcipec had. CPP uses the weapons that everyone has. Funcipec on the other hand had advanced weapons imported from Overseas. Funcipec was prepping themselves militarily for this event way before. If anyone was caught of guard would be the CPP not Funcipec.

I was in the 1997-1998 war no joke. My dad worked around the world so I've been around Asia. I was only 2-3 and i dont remember a thing but my sister did and we were rushed in a Jet to a near by airport.

You right on the bulls eye THAI1959, I lived through out all those wars, in the 70's i also lived under B.52 bombartment , it was constanly bombing day and night with also the goverment air force, the topest one was during the K.R. eara. I been through all kind of shit, unimaginable campare to you guys in the west, and so was the rest us camobdians. We , khmer been suffer beyond belive, the ameicans were part to blame. Now under this greed corrupted government, people still suffering.
Do you ever wonder about Khmer's politic in Cambodia? I don't understand why Cambodia could not end their grief despite abundant of help from everywhere of the world. Now I know some of the problems to why people cannot shrug off these problems.

Funan and Chenla were Khmer. They were just called differently by the Chinese.
The first Funan Khmer King was Kaudinya Varman and the last Khmer King is King Sihanouk Varman and the King is 90 years today living in the royal palace in Phnom Penh City. We don't use other people name if we don't belong to.

We might losing land to Viet and Thai but we never lost our Khmer pride for helping Viet and Thai from the MOngol killing. Today our Khmer civilization is still alive in Vietnam, Thailand and in Laos that no one can't ignore. Our Cambodia Kings never go invading anyone like the Thai Kings invading Cambodia and copied Cambodia Angkor Wat, copied Cambodia Preah Vihear and copied Cambodia numbers.

Don't be jealous of Khmer people if many tourists keep going to Cambodia. Since you like to compare Cambodia to Viet and Thai you may to look at Viet problem with China right now and Thai facing the car bombs everyday in south while tourists keep flooding in Cambodia.
Yes, but s. 21 only a small part of the killing.There were killng fields all over the country side. During K.R. time there were skulls and bones , teeth...etc. everywhere, from time to time they round up hundreds and hundreds of people and executed in the remode area , some time anywhere it didn't matter to them . They like to kill for sport, they got addicted after the first. It was horrible.

What was the country like under Ranarrith's rule? simple word: the wild wild west of the East. Under Hun Sen, stability, economic growth, etc... Angkor was a capital not a country. Chenla was a country and it was a Chinese word not a Khmer word. We are Khmer since the 1st century and today the letters KH standing for our Khmer ID for over 2000 years and we never changed our Khmer ID even we had the bad, the good and the ugly in our history. You twist your tongue without bone without proof like you changed your ID and you go telling everyone that you are great but if you are great you don't change your ID unless you so ugly.

As long as people of Cambodia love their King Sihamoni, Hun Sen would have to do the same as people of Cambodia. If Hun Sen is 4th grader, he is still better than Thai PM Abhisit from UK learning Hun Sen Khmer number 4th grade so Thai PM from UK can read Hun Sen Khmer number on Thai currency.

Thai changed their land name Thailand like England because Thai got ID crisis. Khmer are still Khmer for more than 2500 years and UNESCO gave Khmer credit for our Khmer creation across SEA.
