I am recovering from a shoulder injury caused by bad technique, thanks so much for making this video. The good thing that came out of this was I learned to sleep on my back for better recovery, I still miss belly sleeping 😴.
Was sparring back in July, was throwing wide hooks and felt like my shoulder came out it’s socket but it didn’t. Fast forward to now, shoulder feels weird and uncomfortable in some positions, kind of hurts. Went to the doctor and have to go do physical therapy for two months. If it’s not good by then I’m gonna get an mri to see if it’s a rotator cuff tear. Warning to everyone, learn to throw proper hooks.
@@Artofwar3004 it never fully healed completely, I ended up going to physical therapy but it didn’t do much. I got a referral for a MRI with contrast but my insurance denied it so now I’ve kinda just accepted it. Still some discomfort when I do certain movements but I’m going to crunch fitness now to try and build some muscle since I stopped going to the boxing gym and gained a ton of weight
@@Simbadagreat13 just got back in last week. My insurance didn’t cover the MRI; never told me why. I just started again, everything seems fine, I’m being more careful with my hooks and throwing with better form. For my shoulder, sometimes I’ll get slight pain but it was never to the point where I wasn’t able to lift my arm so maybe it’s a slight tear but not severe. I was really frustrated with not being able to find out what’s wrong but it’s w.e. I’m doing rotator cuff stretches with light weight dumbbells 3 days a week after doing jump rope and heavy bag. A lot of people don’t work the rotator cuffs but over the few months I learned it’s super important to work them even if you go to the gym to lift weights.
@@jlopez1470that’s nice so your doing rotator cuff stretches and workouts while still boxing right? For Mines I injured it during sparring in November, have no pain when I lift my arm but when I rotate my arm around in circular motion I can hear hear some clicking or cracking sounds
Thank you so much for the exercises too- i have an intuitive feeling that movement can heal the injury- but I made the mistake of injuring it again doing the same bag workout So no more boxing for a week 😢😢😢😢 as hard as it is
Thank you, you saved my life, I got tendonitis on the right shoulder because a slingshotted upper cut, now I have to rest for 1 month but after it I will come back inmediatly
@Detraol Yola i have the same problem but ive been boxing for 4 years already i know how to throw these punches and it still began to hurt recently for sum reason
I had just messed me shoulder last night while shadow boxing , got a little carried away and over extended on a rear hook. My shoulder said snap crackle poo
What would you say if i dislocated my (dominant) shoulder 6 times it started 6 years ago and since that time no motivation for nothing, it fucked up my brain still, and my shoulder never going to be the same again all my life i have to deal with one hand ✋😂
Injured myself about 2 mo ago, thought it was a shoulder dislocation/sprain but might be rotator cuff injury. Anyway, got it checked a month later and was healing up until it happened again today!
I'm a boxer I dislocated my right shoulder it keep popping out sometime when I'm fighting but for a couple of days I get back to normal but will happen again sometime it pops up when I'm asleep what can I do to get it back fully
wait i have that happen to me does it pop and make your arm stuck i have this happening to my left arm im still new to boxing and keep on throwing hooks wrong
You’ll need surgery bro, you prob have a SLAP injury. Torn labrum. Mines kept popping out as well. For years. But I had surgery and now have 5 screws in my left shoulder. It’ll take about a year to get to 100% but if you’re young it’s possible.
Hey ive had this injury. You shouldnt be doing anything with the dislocated shoulder for at least 6 weeks after the initial dislocation. Probably the worst injury a boxer could get.
Damn this totally explains how I messed up my right shoulder. I was in a boxing class and they wanted us to go all out for 1 minute in a bag and I kept throwing wide hooks just as you showed not to do. Then a day later or so I was thrown in an arm bar for bjj.. then the next day felt like my arm was hanging by a thread out of socket.. better now but still doesn't feel right. Seems you're better off youtubing how to box then going to a facility.. if they can't catch what I'm doing wrong.
Coach, can you talk more about the root cause of the injury? I think my technique is good enough to not be as obviously bad as you show (punch behind shoulder). In teh cases where I screw up and do throw a punch like that (towards the end when I'm tired) I throw a lot of upper cuts on the heavy bag, is it possible I hurt my shoulder trying to lift the bag up with the power of the punch?
Anyone have incomplete tear in shoulder and still doing boxing??? I’m just worry if I keep going until I have complete tear then I can’t workout and do anything. Let me know please
Happened to me today hurt my shoulder when I threw a hook probably was too wide and it slipped on the pad too when I landed. 😢 hurt like a bitch . Thankfully I don’t think it’s too bad and I just need some time off. I do a lot of rear deltoid and rotator cuff exercises so I think it helped prevent a nastier injury.
But sir when I practice this kind of hook then it lacks power. In my opinion, hook is meant to be pulled before its launch. When I practice by pulling it before throwing it, then I gives the strength and quality to the hook punch.
A hook should be throw in the close to mid Rach and the power is being generated by legs not the arms we have other videos explaining how to generate power through ground force and hip rotation
Man i thought this for a long time, until 2 weeks ago i pulled something in my shoulder. I was keeping my arm open and thats what caused the injury, this guy is right, i wish i watched this video earlier, now im out of the gym till i get better
When you do a wider hook (the way he said not to) you may be able to get a bit more power however you are more likely to get hit and it's easier for your opponent to see the hook comming. The power is generated in your feet anyway
U need to stop boxing for abit n let it heal for ab 3 weeks n then slowly move onto stretches n then body weight excercies n maybe try fix ur form on the jab u could be over extending
Don’t get discouraged man go get ur shoulder checked see what type of injury you have for the most part it could be a torn labrum or a rotator cuff injury don’t lose hope I have dislocated my shoulder 6 times and I did surgery and did aggressive rehab and physical therapy and now I’m back * I have hyper mobility makes me more prone to shoulder injuries and dislocation good luck bro injuries part of the game
I have pain in my right shoulder after practicing that snapping technique now I can’t strike with my right hand or even pull things open without shoulder pain
I got into a road rage 2weeks ago. I threw a few right hooks. I aimed for his face but landed on his neck. I got hit with a helmet on my head from behind. Punched him too. Then my father gave him a hook. That knocked him down. He got up and ran away leaving his friend. I did pushups, bag work, skin the cats after that but it didn't hurt much. Shoulder aches a bit when I hold my hand behind my back
