Getting my fortune told by birds in Taipei, TAIWAN

  • When we heard that there were special birds that can tell your fortune in Taipei, we had to try this unique experience for ourselves. We also visited a weekend flower market, the very first Din Tai Fung restaurant, spent some time at Longshan Temple and also visited the vibrant Ximending. We hope you enjoy this vlog of ours from our time spent in Taipei, Taiwan.
    We stayed near Da'an Park station so on our way to our accommodation on the first day we arrived in Taipei, we walked past Jianguo Weekend Flower Market. Since we were pretty tired and it was late, we saved this place to check out the following weekend. If you love plants, this is a great spot to visit as it's also very near Daan Forest Park too. Just be aware, there isn't really much food at Jianguo Weekend Flower Market though!
    Jianguo Weekend Flower Market
    Address: Section 1, Jianguo South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
    Hours: Saturday & Sunday 9am-6pm
    When you're in Taiwan, it's pretty much bubble (boba) tea heaven given it's the birthplace of bubble tea! We hopped on some public rental bicycles to go satisfy the bubble tea craving but didn't expect the place we looked up would be a fail. It was by reservation only and you had to book at least a day beforehand! Turned out it was a specialist bubble tea spot so off we went again. Lucky for us there are so many boba stalls over Taipei so we stumbled across 茶胡Beard Cup nearby:
    茶胡Beard Cup
    Address: No. 10, Lane 151, Section 2, Jianguo South Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
    Hours: Monday - Sunday 9am-8pm
    Taipei, Taiwan is a super bike-friendly place. You can use your EasyCard (MRT card) to rent a bike. They're all around the city and known as YouBike. It was a bit tricky finding how to register the EasyCard online (which you have to do first) to rent the bicycles, but here's the page:
    taipei.youbike...
    TIPS
    1. For ID Number, select "Nothing more"
    2. Card information, select "ECC" (if you've got the EasyCard)
    Another awesome thing that originated from Taiwan, and Taipei in particular is Din Tai Fung. Din Tai Fung is a world famous xiaolong bao (soup dumpling) franchise that's pretty much a guaranteed good meal whichever branch you go. However, we checked off another foodie bucket list item which was going to the very first Din Tai Fung store ever. They had absolutely amazing customer service and food! As there's a few restaurant branches of Din Tai Fung in Taipei, make sure you go to this very original one on Xinyi Road if you can.
    Din Tai Fung Xinyi Restaurant
    Address: No. 194號, Section 2, Xinyi Road, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
    Hours: Saturday - Sunday 10am-9pm
    Monday - Friday 11am-9pm
    Bangka Lungshan Temple (also known as Lungshan Temple or Longshan Temple) in Taipei is perhaps one of the most famous temples in Taiwan. Longshan Temple is about 300 years old and located in Taipei's most historic neighbourhood. This place is always busy, filled with worshippers of various religions. Taiwan tends to be pretty inclusive in its attitude towards religion and Longshan Temple is an embodiment of that inclusive spirit.
    Lungshan Temple
    Address: No. 211, Guangzhou Street, Wanhua District, Taipei City, Taiwan 10853
    Hours: Monday - Sunday 6am-10pm
    Finally, fortune telling with White Java Sparrows! It's was a really unique experience and if you want to visit these fortune telling birds and have your fortune told by birds too, find the underpass opposite Lungshan Temple and follow the signs. There are a number of other traditional Chinese fortune telling experiences and a small handful of the fortune tellers there can speak English too. Pricing varies between each fortune teller's booths based on fortune telling methods, number of questions and subjects you want to discuss etc so just check beforehand with your fortune teller about the cost.
    For our final destination we head over to the popular shopping district Ximending in Taipei to see what the atmosphere is like at night. Ximending had an awesome vibe it's also known as the "Harajuku" of Taipei. You can reach it easily by getting off at Ximen Station.
    The place we ate at is called "You Fu".
    有福馄饨面饭馆
    Address: No. 15號, Lane 34, Section 2, Hankou St, Wanhua District, Taipei City, Taiwan 108
    Hours: Mon - Sun 10am-9pm

      Hey bro! No worries about the shout out. Hope you're doing well back in Taipei 😁👍 has school started again now that it's somewhat under control there? Let us know what cards you get if you do the fortune telling 😁

      Hey Michael 👋 Yen here now 😁 Like Peter said, hope you're well and let us know if you do the fortune telling lol. I really enjoyed the experience. If you go, please say hi to Carol from us! Maybe you can show her the video 🥰 I think she would enjoy seeing it 😁❤️ Btw, I dunno if we were just really hungry with that place that it was enjoyable hahahah Peter was getting hungus as 🤣 Take care! Hey Peter, so schools never closed, they have been open this whole time. The only difference is that extra precautions have been taken like everybody is required to wear a mask and we need to disinfect our classrooms. My camps though which is actually my core job, have all been cancelled as it lowers the risk since we usually have kids from 2-3 diff schools coming to us at the same time. So in place of that we have now gotta do proper videos that will be uploaded onto youtube...guess I am joining the world of youtube but in making educational videos.

    • @MichaelKamson
      @MichaelKamson 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Yen, will def let you guys know if I do the fortune telling thing and will go to Carol for it. And I will show her the video if I go to her. Hey I am not a fussy eater so will try that place in Ximending either way. Tried going to din tai fong today but yeah wasn't really prepared to wait for like 40 mins to get a table to I will prob try go at another less busy time. You guys must also keep in touch. Keep well!!!

      Ayyy that's awesome, could be the kick start of your TH-cam career 😁👍 even if you're making educational videos for work, it might put you in the space to make other videos eventually too. Good luck with it all! Oh wow we must have just gotten super lucky that day to have no line! Hopefully you get to eat it another time lol and thanks heaps if you do get a chance to meet Carol. She was a really lovely lady 🙂 Take care and all the best!

      That's awesome! Yes definitely go to the OG Din Tai Fung 😁👍 let us know what you think too. The spicy wontons there were especially 🤤🤤 We found it was really not busy when we went coz of the whole coronavirus situation.. normally. Din Tai Fung has long waits to be seated! So would imagine the OG Din Tai Fung would normally be extra busy @.@ Hopefully you get the same awesome friendly staff, they were really lovely. Take care and keep safe!

      They were so pretty! I was amazed coz haven't seen them like hanging drapes before 😍 I really wasn't sure if they were real for that reason hahahah but they looked real. I was scared to touch them 😂 Yea the free bikes were awesome and great that roads are flat and safe plus bike lanes everywhere too 🙂👍 Haha Taiwan is the birth place of bubble tea after all so had to drink it all up 🤣

    Carol is so nice
    those birds are the cutest thing
    That was soooo cool!

      That temple is really cool. It's a very inclusive temple apparently where worshippers of different religions are welcomed to pray. It's survived bomb raids and is around 300 years old. I loved the singing when we were there.. it felt so peaceful and calm ❤️ Asia has sooo many incredible temples. Ancient and beautiful 💕 Ooo hope your coffee reading was a good one! I heard there's tea readings too 😮

      Liro 💯 keen to join you for mah Jong! Hahahaha one of the memories that stuck in my head since young is the old ppl who sat in the hall way with like stashes of 1rmb playing mah Jong for money everyday. Seemed so cool. Yen drunk both the milk tea no problem I helped a bit 😂

    Taipei looks like such an awesome place to travel to and still affordable. I really like the flowers markets, wow! Cherry blossom trees are definitely not cheap aye! Glad you found a boba tea place in the end 😅. The bikes are so cool! The shrimp wontons looked very yummy 😋. I’ve never tried tai fung before, looks like something I need to look out for next time. Do we have one in NZ? I don’t believe too much in the fortune telling either, but it’s a fun thing to do for sure 😊. It’s funny how you had to talk to the birds 😅. We’re the same, it’s sometimes hard to find local food on those main tourist streets, the food you found looked delicious as though 😋. Hope you guys and your family are doing well 😊.

    • @PeterandYen
      @PeterandYen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Taipei was awesome! Not the cheapest in Asia but not the most expensive either 👍 That flower market was so interesting, such unique stuff we hadn't seen before! Nah unfortunately no Din Tai Fung in NZ. Closest for us would be Sydney lol but theirs don't really compare to the ones in Asia 😅 hahah yea I just went with it, they were so cute. Apparently they're known as spiritual and lucky birds and in other countries there are similar practices but with parrots or other birds! Taipei is such a cool city though, loved our time there even though it wasn't that long! Will need to go back again next time 🙂 Thanks again Lana and take care!

    • @LanaTiare
      @LanaTiare 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter and Yen Yeah true, probably not as cheap as Vietnam or Thailand. But still seems reasonable from the prices you’ve posted. Ahh I see, guess I’ll have to go to Asia to try one then 😅. Yes, Taipei looks so lovely! Glad to see you guys did a fair bit before you went home. You guys take care too 😊.
