Great intro. 👍 just to add… If you dime the master, you typically get a very particular, warm harmonic saturation. (Pentode and triode tubes create different harmonic characteristics.) You’ll also push the output transformer, which can be great. Another way to set amps, which is how I set my AC15, is to dime the master and the turn up the channel volume until you get to the “edge.” It’s almost always a more pleasant sound. Especially if you’re going to run the amp cleaner, it’s a great way to do it.
Would it be possible to release these instructions in a cheat sheet version - for easy reference and sharing with team? With some FAQs like “why do I have a screeching high pitched sound when Compression OD and reverb are enabled? Using Strat, all pickups experience it”
This was a great video I appreciate the ability to see how hot, edge of breakup, and clean all compare . I've been using 4CM for years and am looking to switch to a front-of-amp setup. Probably going with an edge of breakup setting after watching this video. Thanks Bradford!
Love this stuff guys. Recently got a Vox AC30C2 and found setting up this amp is fairly simple. Similar to your vid. I found actually a bit easier than digital land even
Thanks! I think your experience with amps vs digital is pretty typical. A great sounding amp just sounds good when you plug in, even at a lot of different settings. But with digital, you have to set up the cab, mics, etc. That’s a huge piece of it. A tube combo amp sounds great because you’re listening to the cab in the room. In the digital realm you can destroy your tone with the wrong cab, speaker, mic, mic placement, etc. Digitally, the cab or IR often is a much bigger factor than the amp itself.
Very Useful, You Guys really got it together for sure. I find Fractals defaults are pretty good, but most users Tweak to taste, and some vintage amp. knowledge helps to. I have discovered some of the more Hidden EQ stuff with the Axe/Fractal. I tweaked a Magnatone 440 preset done by some other YT poster, and Tweaked it to sound like Lonnie Mack WHAM album. Used an Austin Buddy TIP for the Pitch Shifting Vibrato/Trem.
Would love to see one on how to set up the Ox and Captor to sound good. Running the amp wide open vs attenuated, should you utlize the onboard EQ, compression, etc. in them, all that sort of stuff. When I've tried using my Captor X on my HC30, I don't get a similar sound or feel to the way my amp sounds when running through the cab. Obviously some of that is due to speaker size, but still... I want to feel more inspired when running through the Captor X because it is so much more convenient
We did a video on Ox here: th-cam.com/video/Zqd59pqzdNk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9TOBkofuCydU2eBP For Captor, it’s all about the IR’s. We have great results with it using the IR’s we make with our cabs.
i really love the idea of this video. Kinda not liking using a really expensive amp with fancy features. I agree the principle is the same but maybe using a dsl or blues jr might convey the message better. Just my thought
Does the wideness of an out of phase sound bad in a mix? Gonna be honest it sounded wider but it didnt sound terrible, do wet effects also sound different with an out of phase stereo setup?
It is a custom made guitar. It has simple multi effect built in which powered by battery, but now i mostly play it by direct in to multi efx unit without using battery and the build in effect.
Hard to get the entire vibe here because we can’t get a good idea of volume and headroom through TH-cam. Good video idea, but hard to get the idea without being in the room
Seriously love that you took time to make this! 🖤
The last “KLEAN” was 🔥
Loved hearing different setups.

Super helpful! Now can I get a “PLEASE HELP ME DIAL IN THIS FREAKING TONEX” video?😂
@@lukemcevoy5371 what are you having an issue with? Have you adjusted input trim? We recommend putting it at 0db if you haven’t.
First! We got more coming like this but let us know what else you’d like us to cover!
How you dial in gain stages? Balancing wet effects, etc.
Would love to see the same style video but with Fx added. Ideal signal chain, what to put in Fx loop, etc.

How to properly “boost” or “drive an amp using external pedals so it won’t flub out and die or be too compressed, so it has life. 🙌🏻
Like this but for wet effects, please.
Gonna have this video on repeat while I restage my ampless board. Using a Humboldt simplifier and this video is perfect. Amazing stuff as always🔥🔥
Very helpful, thank you!

Guys, I purchased your amp model of the C30 for my HX stomp and it’s my favourite IR since then! Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Great content, inspirational as always. Gotta go grab my amp and play now...
Great video!!!
Thanks Jem!

@@worshiptutorials also my helix now makes a great pedalboard.
Enjoy your ac30 man. I got mines years ago and every time i play it, its just like playing it for the first time
This was awesome!
Thanks Bradford, great video!
Give the Mojotone BV30H & BV25M combo with your matchless to get you close to the old matchless speaker setup

I'm also an edge of breakup ish guy. Great video!
Formally Known as THE SWEET SPOT, before Breakup was a TERM. LOL.

Are you using the 2 12 vox style cab in the ox?
Does the wideness of an out of phase sound bad in a mix? Gonna be honest it sounded wider but it didnt sound terrible, do wet effects also sound different with an out of phase stereo setup?
Cranked master is the same as turning up pre-gain but for the power amp. You'll get less headroom, not more.
what about you tone and volume on your guitar? do you dime both of them or also bring them halfway?
When setting up amps we always have volume and tone at 10
Hi. How to know if my guitar is high or low input?
We’d recommend using high inputs on amps unless you have very high output or active pickups
What guitar do you have?

It's so easy.
Step one- ALL THE GAIN
Step two- NO MIIIIDS
STEP THREE- ALLLL THHHHE GAAAAAAIN.
See simple.
No other way to be haired!
Just went back and watched that video. Such a classic.
It's a great video but it's also demonstrating how much of "tone" is subjective. No wonder people go crazy trying to figure it out 😂👍
