- A short demo of a 1966 Arbiter Fuzz Face. NKT275 germanium transistors. Completely original and sounding fabulous! I've had some very nice compliments about my strange ability to play the guitar AND shoot a vid at the same time... Thanks! (It was actually my mate wielding the camera sorry to disappoint you folks). The pedal was straight into my computer interface using a clean Marshall sim in Amplitube 3.

That's the happiest guitar effects pedal I've ever seen.
Still coming here to hear this tone beauty... never found anything like it
You can make your own

best fuzz face I've ever heard
I'm thinking the same...
in my opinion is the roger mayer axis (Rocket) the best, or the spitfire
Leon Weber
Nah ;D
I always go back to this video wow nice sound!!!!
Goodness!!! Best fuzz tones I've ever heard!!!
Oh. My. God. This sounds so perfect. P E R F E C T
I pilfered NKT-275's from several 1960's British radios!.
It took a few goes at it to get ones in the correct range/hfe but it's definitely achievable.
The price of real NKT-275's IF you can find them is insane!.
Legendary sounds from that pedal.
Love the cleaned-up/volume-rolled-back tones you get there!
"The pedal was straight into my computer interface using a clean Marshall sim in Amplitube". lol )) what an amazing result!
The original one and only
Fuzz Face pedal.
One the best review vids I've seen, simple!!
This is nice! Thank you for sharing with us this piece of history as well as your playing style ;)
Worth every penny !
Sounds great! So envious! :-)
Yes, and exceptional sounding FF.
Sounds so nice..the pedal and the playing.
Thee best tone, ever!
Amazing sound
Thats the best fuzz face I have heard on youtube.
Hands down!
Bloody brilliant! I enjoyed your "cranky playing"!
For some unknown reason and I have tried, but I can't appreciate the sound of a fuzz. But this one I could live with. very smooooth. rock on
Best Fuzz Face demo Ever
Sounds great!
Sounds VERY VERY good
Face melting! When he pushed that button holy shit!
Ah man, that pedal sounds sweet!
Great vid, thanks!
Amazing !
I like it a lot! ... nice playing as well.
Sounds killer!
HELL! YEAH!
Nice! That's a very fuzzy, sweet, creamy tone and playing.
Excellent!
amazing
Thanks dude!
Best sounding fuzz ever!! And really good playing
no an original fuzz face beats them all
It sounds good but the Silicon models that Hendrix was using in 69-70, as well as the Octavia's Mayer modded without the octave up get this tone and a higher, gain with more mids and highs. They have a much better, and more varied sound in my opinion.
that's a great sounding fuzz face!
Magic!
That thing is so perfect. Don't ever sell it (unless you're gonna' sell it to me :D ). I love the texture of that tone. You obviously got a good one. I need to mess around with my Sun Face and find that tone. The right amp helps a lot for sure, but that Fuzz Face you have just nails it perfectly. It has the right amount of everything.
that. sounds. fucking. glorious.
nice vintage tone!
thanx brother
Well....I've never really been a collector and I don't usually hang on to stuff just to have it gather dust. I love good gear but it needs to be heard.....I think anyway. The cash bought some stuff that I now use every gig - it's a drag but I can't have everything!!!
; >)
Sounding good, very thick, chunky fuzz
I used to hate fuzz until I trade a fargen olde 800 for an arbiter fuzz ( not Arbiter Dallas), than my mind changed: mind blowing experience.......those things are over1000$
Really good playing man!!!!
beautiful pLaying..very cooL.
Great lead playing, man. I'd rather listen to smart, thoughtful lead playing like that than the blues shredders held up as our modern-day guitar heroes.
I think I'll make one, with a tone control added.
Yap, and this is one of the best ones. ;)
God this unit sounds incredible. I want to somehow make my '90s reissue sound like this
Send it to Analog Man and have the guts upgraded).
When it’s more than a 10% icing on the cake…. it doesn’t help much to my ears. But on top of a dimed 100 watt Marshall…. very useful. There are better pedals today but it’s useful.
Nice playing
These sounds greatest in to a crunched JTM 45/100 imo!
Holy F shit, that's sounds better than a Big Muff, didn't think it was possible
Man, there is nothing like those early NKT Fuzz Faces from '66-'68. That one seems to be a particularly-good example (They didn't ALL sound that good rolling off the assembly line... There were a lot of bad ones here and there, which I imagine was mainly due to the inconsistency of transistor-manufacturing at the time... Plus, I assume most effects companies at that time didn't cherry-pick through huge lots of transistors in search of the best-sounding ones the way boutique builders do today, which is why guys like Hendrix, Clapton, Page, etc. would sift through like 20 of them at Manny's, Macari's, and other music stores, trying to find that perfect one). I'm so glad I bought an A.M. Sun Face back in '07 when I had the money (I got it used... It was made back in early '03, less than a year after Mike and Co. got that huge lot of n.o.s. '60's NKT's from the same British manufacturer that made the ones in these early Arbiter Fuzz Faces... I view germanium transistors kinda' like tubes... To me, the best-sounding ones were made in the '60's, back in their heyday... I feel the same way about home speakers... Give me those old, alnico-loaded ones that were designed for tube-recorded/mastered music... And recap them with some n.o.s. PCB-filled capacitors :D ).
When i saw this in person, i was like...damn that takes up half a pedal board. Then the minis came and theyre great as well
W.O.W.
Actually this particular pedal has been in an attic for 15 years until recently. It has now been sold. I hope you find your one!!
Wow!
Man, I just got sad with my new Ge FF. Same transistor, totally different sound hehehe.
Kidding! Every single Fuzz Face I've heard sounds different, that's the cool thing about it!
I think so too!!
It's up on ebay for the next 10 days.... I'm not using it now and I want it to go to a good home.......
Yes- I've sold it now to a guy in the States but I'm happy for you to use my vid.
FYI the guitar was a custom job with humbuckers but I was using the coil taps.
It was recorded straight in to my audio interface and using a clean Marshall amp sim. This makes the tone even more impressive to me!! I was sorry to see it go really but It was just sleeping in a cupboard and it NEEDS to be used.....
Jezzaworld i’m pretty sure i need to track down the owner in the states to make him an offer he can’t refuse. ever since i’ve seen this video- it’s been the highlight of an arbiter fuzz face. that red with the different colored text. it’s a dream. such a glorious piece of gear. i shall find this.
aged beautifully, i like to think of this pedal as helen mirren
Ooh baby, that's one tasty Fuzz Face!
if I found an Arbeiter Fuzz Face in my attic, I would be just... overjoyed to say the absolute least
WOW.
How could you sell it? You had the best fuzz in the world!!!!
holy shit...
That's the sOuNd!
What a nice compliment- Thanks! Yeah- I like Clapton but I also like many other styles!! Actually I think that the tone pulls you in to playing a certain way that seems to feel like you are getting the most from it. It's very round and fat and the notes have a bit of a life of their own...
Wow great tone I would have never guessed you weren't playing through a good tube amp had I not read the description. Great playing and tone, are you a fan of Clapton? Because your playing definitely reminds me of his
that sounds like EJ!
i splooged everywhere
oh man i want this. what modern alternatives can i get that sound close this?
Gday mate, lovely playing and nice demo. Please let me know if you ever sell This smiley fella
Guys if you want this sound with any fuzz face just turn the tone knob on your guitar all the way / or almost all of the way down for a more bassy less trebley sound, do that and try messing with the pickup selector switch to see which one it sounds best with (the Eric Clapton "woman" technique") tone is not all in the pedal..
What's that amp you're playing through ? Stratocaster ? First couple of seconds really sound like early Clapton tones ! Great pedal and really nice playing ! I have a joe bonamassa fuzz face, really digging it !
That was my very glamorous assistant wielding the camera!!!
Wonderful tone friend...very difficult to find a vintage Face sounding that way!
Could i use link to this video in my guitar blog ?
Regards. Joseph.
If only one could find some authentic NKT275s without giving up a kidney
Amazing pedal, have you ever tried an Analogman Sun Face? would like to hear what the owner of an original FF thinks about its sound
Hi man, Do you know where can i find one pedal like this??, i think it ain't it easy, but hope you can help me, thanks a lot!!!
sounds like cream!
So then, these pedals are not for sale anymore unless I would get one from a collector? Is there a fuzz that sounds like the fuzz that Keith Richards used on Satisfaction? I haven't found one yet.
+Daryl Winn Electro Harmonix has a pedal made to sound just like it, it's called the Satisfaction Fuzz. Keith Richards actually used a Maestro (who were owned by Gibson I believe) Fuzz Tone for the actual recording.
Is there any available fuzz that sounds similar to this one? I own a FT69 and it just doesn't quite make it...
analogman sun face NKT-275
Those harmonics drive crazy... I keep coming back to hear this wonder. Although I understand that Sunface nkt 275 is probably the closest thing, I came across the new Dunlop FFM2 and I'm quite impressed.
Sacul Pedals will make 5 units using consistent Matsushita transistors this 2018.
You could try and make the input cap higher..I'd go for a 4.7uf electro cap on fuzz faces as a rule anyway..this one sounds like it has a higher value cap in then standred!!
Cornell 1st fuzz is amazing best on the market by miles
it was bob dylans like a rolling stone or how do it feel what ever the name is,
Just making it up as I go really.....
sounds so good. if only they didnt sell for $1000 haha
I have one for a $100 right now
Blow this one away.
1965 transistors, other components are vintage, some from the 50's if it really mattered. If I could get the job done with modern stuff I would us it.
They don't make the stuff I use and ply anymore mate.
i bought a dallas arbiter and cant identify the year of its production
anyone help please?
silver sure...if you still have it and need help- send me a pic and i’ll tell you
I’ll buy this from you now if you still got.
Yeah -well I play a lot of stuff with my feet these days...I like the toen
Ain’t no Dunlop sound like that
Can you may give some? It souds very good, and i am a guitar newbie :(
I plugged my my mind in and heard Eric Clapton
Wow! No hands?
From the year 1966, correct?
Wow. For many years I thought u just whacked on fuzz, got bored of the fact it sounded silly compared to a tubescreamer and sold it. Now I'm obsessed with the brilliant sparkly nearly clones rolled back.. When gigs recommence I'm going out with just a fuzz face and a curly lead. I'll remember the amp, guitars etc, later in the evening I should imagine..
so you just took a long video of you showing the fuzz face, then put the recorded sound over it?
No serial number?
Shit.... How many hands do you have?
