  • @charleslivingston803
    @charleslivingston803 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The best advice I’ve ever seen on using a FF - think of it as “icing on the cake” with an overdriven Marshall. They don’t sound great with a clean tone, but a NMV Marshall at 8-10 pretty much sounds like there’s a fuzz on, anyway. So adding the FF doesn’t change the tone much, just gives more sustain.
    I used to set my Marshall fairly clean and then use the FF for the big overloaded sound, but it never sounded great on either the clean or fuzz sounds. I eventually realized that Marshalls are simply made to be turned up. If you want a clean tone, get a Twin!
    The really cool thing is that you get a better clean tone by turning up the Marshall to fully distorted, turning on the FF, and turning down the guitar’s volume.

    I was buying a pair of celestion speakers from a private seller who was heading for retirement and out of the corner of my eye, I see a fuzz. I honestly had no idea about fuzz faces at the time, but decided I'd ask if he would sell as I figured they were worth something. He did after explaining he was the original owner.. Now that I 😢think about it, the simpler the circuit, the more its tone will change depending on 1 or 2 parts being a different brand or a different value.

    Hendrix used to turn down his volume on the guitar dramatically when he played the "clean stuff" such as on Little Wing, All along the watchtower ect. When he did solos such as in Voodoo Chile he turned the volume up for max saturation and fuzz. To get something that sounds kind of like Hendrix take a fuzz unit turn it up fully, turn your amp up quite loud and turn the volume on the guitar heavily down. This should work for something that sound similar to Hendrix, "Under the bridge", Pearl Jam ect.

    The first time i see someone using it the Hendrix way. Into a already driven amp and it sounds amazing. More like a boost. All demos into clean amps sound awful, they don´t get it. Now it would be interesting to hear a modern version in the same setup. I wish there were some bits with rolled off guitar volume. Thanks for all the great videos

    If I was told I had to make do with only three pieces of gear, it would be, hands down, a Strat or Telecaster, with a Fuzz Face, and a Plexi. Most of my favourite tones right there, clean to fuzzed out, just by going from 6 to 10 on the guitar volume.

      fuzz pedals were extremely popular during the 60s and 70s. it's only now that the guitarists with pedalboards on forums are only interested in how fuzz pedals sound at their most cleanest possible setting.
