    Came from a gen 1 mt10sp. Which was decatted and mapped. Bought the s1000r in July. The thing that got me initially was the lack of low down power on the BMW. But since mapping it and removing the torque restrictions its a new beast ! Absolutely love it.
    Mpg way better than the 10 , tire wear getting double the milage of the 10 and suspension much better on my bumpy roads.

      @DSR1YT the re map made a huge difference. Took away the lean fueling down low, which was giving that hunting/surging when riding slow through towns. Way more power low down and at midrange,giving wheelies whenever wanted and sone not😂 .Got rid of that annoying high rev start up, increased max rpm, gear shift although already good smoother again and rad cooling fans kick in earlier. Well worth doing if anyone has one of these.

    Is it the accessories that make a bike special or the engine? Personally, as a 10 owner, it has to be the crossplane engine. It's interesting that you being a generation younger than myself, what you find important on a motorcycle.
    Beemer is a lovely machine, no doubt about it.
    Back in 2016, when bike world did a comparison test with the S1000R, MT10, Speed Triple and Super Duke, the MT10 stopped quickest. Problem is feel. Folks like two finger braking and the 10 especially on stock pads, needs more lever pull. (I accept things have probably moved on since then)

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The MT10 breaks have always been below par, its something that has needed to be changed straight away for most people, I don’t want to be grabbing a fist full of brakes for them to work, its a cheapo enough fix but it would have been better if Yamaha had done it from factory. The crossplane engine make the 10 special because it doesn’t have much else going for it in the other departments.

However, how do i differentiate between the 2022 and 2023 model? From the side fairings perhaps or anything thats different? Man you do great reviews but you need to look at gear ratios. The BMW S1000R has a slightly lower final drive ratio (2.647) compared to the Yamaha MT-10 (2.813). This means the MT-10 will have slightly lower gearing, offering more acceleration at the expense of top speed compared to the S1000R.
    TLDR: You can put a bigger rear sprocket on the BMW and have the same acceleration. The BMW actually has MORE TORQUE than the Yamaha. It's not the engine in the MT10 that your butt-dyno felt, it was the final drive.
    Peak torque S1000R: 84 lb-ft at 9,250 rpm
    Peak torque MT-10: 82 lb-ft at 9,000 rpm
    Addition/correction: the final drive must be combined with whichever gear is selected to find the exact wheel torque. Here are some more specific comparisons between the two bikes. Higher numbers = faster acceleration, lower top speed in each gear:
    BMW S1000R Combined Gear Ratios:
    1st Gear: 2.647 * 2.647 = 7.010
    2nd Gear: 2.091 * 2.647 = 5.533
    3rd Gear: 1.727 * 2.647 = 4.573
    4th Gear: 1.500 * 2.647 = 3.970
    5th Gear: 1.360 * 2.647 = 3.597
    6th Gear: 1.261 * 2.647 = 3.336
    Yamaha MT-10 Combined Gear Ratios:
    1st Gear: 2.666 * 2.813 = 7.501
    2nd Gear: 2.000 * 2.813 = 5.626
    3rd Gear: 1.619 * 2.813 = 4.553
    4th Gear: 1.381 * 2.813 = 3.885
    5th Gear: 1.190 * 2.813 = 3.349
    6th Gear: 1.037 * 2.813 = 2.918
    Comparison:
    1st Gear: S1000R (7.010) vs. MT-10 (7.501) - MT-10 is lower geared.
    2nd Gear: S1000R (5.533) vs. MT-10 (5.626) - MT-10 is slightly lower geared.
    3rd Gear: S1000R (4.573) vs. MT-10 (4.553) - Very similar gearing.
    4th Gear: S1000R (3.970) vs. MT-10 (3.885) - S1000R is slightly higher geared.
    5th Gear: S1000R (3.597) vs. MT-10 (3.349) - S1000R is higher geared.
    6th Gear: S1000R (3.336) vs. MT-10 (2.918) - S1000R is higher geared.

    Forged wheels are a must - I have them on my 2019 (branded "HP" rather than "M" on the newer bike} and they make a 200kg bike flick around like a Street Triple RS!
    Re. the USB situation - a couple of quid cable off Amazon, routed along the bike (under the rider's seat, behind tank infills) and it's up to the handlebars - works a treat!
    Should do a Workshop video there, as the guys are massively under staffed - took 15 weeks to look at my bike, after advising it would be 8.

    • @kugangles9860

    • @DSR1YT
      @DSR1YT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah there will always be ways of sorting out the manufactures quirks, instead of making me add the extra cables why not just place it upfront somewhere straight away.? I can’t speak for the workshop side yet as I haven’t used them. But the guys and gals out front are a great team.

    • @TheScortUK
      @TheScortUK ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DSR1YT I guess it might be due to the style of bike - the S1000R is a naked superbike, so the majority (I presume) of buyers wouldn't want the extra chonk on the dash/nose to house a USB... my old 765 RS bikes were the same - charge port under the rear seat. I expect it's less of an issue on the S1000RR where it can hide in the nose fairing, or in some of the other BMWs, where you'd expect it. On my S1000R, you can take the front-left panel off, and attach a USB port directly to the loom there, via a designated connector that is blanked off - though this worked, it didn't supply enough juice to charge a modern smartphone! Even now, on my bike, I have the Quadlock USB up front, hooked to the battery, and that cannot charge a Pixel 6 - but works fine with an old S9+

    • @TheScortUK
      @TheScortUK ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kugangles9860 tell me about it! I was lucky that with the bike I picked, the dealer didn't notice it had the wheels on it - as they could have easily added another £1,000 on top of the price I paid! Japanese? or German,....sorry a rhetorical DUHH question Plus MT owners have nt felt betrayed when entirely new generation comes out every couple years ....you just keep seeing your same bike in a different color each model year which is good for your resale I would think.
