What are your thoughts on the Sonos 5, would you get one?
is this sonos 5 or sonos five? now I am confused
@@eduard-alexandrulomanar3065 hi, it’s formally called “Sonos Five” I was just being lazy with the “5”.
The fact that it has the analog line in port makes this more versatile than just a wireless streaming box. It allows you to connect a turntable for example, and get that analog equipment into your Sonos ecosystem. Once the one speaker is connected it can connect to any other Sonos equipment you have through the WiFi. So, if you wanted to use a turntable, and have the sound output to Sonos speakers you have throughout your home, this is great solution.
@@Nala_1230 thats what an analogue input is
The reason it doesn’t have Bluetooth is because it’s a cheap technology, that doesn’t have much bandwidth as wifi for high quality audio. And not because it’s too expensive for them to put it on as you pointed out. It’s unnecessary and inferior to wifi given that homes have wifi already and this isn’t meant to be portable away from places without wifi.
For those who want the Fives with bluetooth you can connect a bluetooth receiver to the 3.5mm then you'll have bluetooth. Or any speaker or system with Coax, 3.5mm, Optical, etc
That would lower the sound quality by alot wont it?
@user-hl8ej5tn6b I wouldn't say alot. There's good BT transmitters out there that sound really good
Wifi is way better than Bluetooth so I don't really see the need for Bluetooth
i have 2 Fives as rear speakers with my Arc and 2 sub woofers....sounds amazing...love it...cheers from Canada
Rock on! Cheers back from Ottawa, Canada!
Just bought 2 Play 5's and will have the same system, so happy to hear that you love it !!
If you want better audio quality always use the analog 3.5mm jack on the back
I assume they nixed bluetooth support because bluetooth just doesn't support higher quality audio formats and would hinder the quality output of this high end speaker
It’s a trade off, they sacrificed accessibility for quality. I guess an argument can be made for either direction.
You can also use the fives for rear surround speakers for your home theater setup…
While that is true the fact that it would rely on wifi for input creates the inherent risk of high latency.
How does it compare with the Bose 500?
I have the soundbar, 2 play ones as r/l surrounds, and bought a 5 yesterday for my bedroom. Its wonderful for a bedroom hooked up to my macbook to play music.
Hi Michael, are you still satisfied with the Sonos Five ?
Can I stream audio from an Apple TV to watch a movie using this speaker?
How loud does it get compared to a Sonos One?
I need more volume 😁
It’s 10 times louder, cleaner and, has more bass
The play 5 and five have always been extremely loud, you will not need a louder speaker.
I'm seriously considering this speaker. I want to do wireless audio for now, but then have the option for a turntable in the future. This seems like the best bet.
Thanks for the thorough review! Looking forward to adding it to my audio system!
Can you suggest an alternate to these speakers with similar audio quality and bluetooth
I'm just going to use a Bluetooth dongle with the audio jack.
I’m very pleased to see someone of South Asian descent (no judgement or offense intended) on TH-cam. Best of luck and wish you all the best in growing your Channel!
Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate your support!
What would be a pair of alternatives for these, with bluetooth connection?
Honestly you can get a jbl boombox 2 but it’s not going to be anywhere close to the sonos five, maybe get a ION speaker
@@Javier03Li, He could connect two of those boom boxes and that would actually be pretty decent I believe. In terms of everything else that the fives can do, I would still go for those though. I have a turntable with Bluetooth streaming, and I’m pretty sure I will be able to hook that up to a pair of fives with the cable, and then I can connect devices to the turntable which will then play off the fives hopefully. We will see in a month. :)
Harmon / Kardon Oynx 6 or 7
Kanto TUKs go head to head with these.
It is better for a cheaper sonos play 5? In fact in has almost the same features.
If you don’t care about good sound then go ahead and buy the play five. Still gets the job done of listening to music loudly.
Surround sound jack
Wow, I'm so glad I watched this. I was on the verge of purchasing a pair of these. Not now. Whew, you saved me time, $$ and much aggravation. Thank you so much!
Glad I could help!
Ordered 2 but due to a shortage of chips still waiting on the delivery by Sonos, can’t wait to test them
nice! Yeah it took a while to get the one I reviewed because of the chip shortage.
No bluetooth!! Surprising!!!
Indeed.
can we connect to pc?
With optical I imagine so.
Best purchase I’ve done so far, I love speakers and out of all the speakers I own this is my favorite one
I was thinking a lot about buying it , it is worthy??
@@juanjustinico9497 yes
@@juanjustinico9497 there was all kinds of bass and other stuff I couldn’t hear on my phone or my other speakers and it’s always coming in clutch when we have indoor parties and even outside although the wifi connection is poor it still delivers every single time
Excellent review
Thank you! Cheers!
Great speaker for WiFi but definitely pricey
For sure.
hi how's it on high resolution 24 bit music ? Would you recc the stereo option ?
I put one on my bookshelf and played deathgrips on it, everything on it came raining down, thing is nuts, buy one
Thanks for sharing your experience!
It looks heavy!! But still so cool
It is heavy for sure!
High end premium stereo speaker?
It's a low end overpriced mono speaker. You'd be better off buying a used Marantz Amp and Dali/Infinity speakers for the same price.
@@scpower it's too expensive for him.
