All depends on what you believe needs appreciating here. Technical skill, no question. I appreciate that. But what I’m getting at is that the music from a compositional standpoint is incredibly lackluster. There is nothing spiritually, emotionally or intellectually impactful here - certainly this man isn’t the second coming of Coltrane, Hendrix, or anyone of that ilk. No, he is not even doing anything as memorable as many dozens of other players from Shrapnel Records from the late 80s into the 90s. So, sure, I appreciate it for what it is, but it’s very limited in the broader scheme of what music can be at its best. Perhaps we are on the same page?
Translation: it's way over your head, so it's easier to slag it off. Just ignore the fact that Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa, Al di Meola and Eric Johnson have all said that he's the most amazing guitarist around nowadays.
Go back and listen to the comments from Vai and Dimeola and you will see that they refer to technical skill not artistic impact. Both Vai and Dimeola are accomplished compositional artists first and foremost. Mancuso isn’t. Perhaps he will be but he isn’t right now and there’s no indication he ever will be. Consider that the Vais and DiMeolas of this world were showing that world class compositional ability at the age Matteo is now and younger.
