I've been to Ichiran in Nagoya, Tokyo, and in Times Square and for me it wasn't quite the same between Japan and NY. The pork and noodle texture was significantly better in Japan but it definitely helped me relive that first experience.
Macie do be hitting the ramen to fuel his 200 IQ plays
you happen to see hibana there?
I can kinda understand the difference between the meat quality between the ichiran in the Times Square compared to japan. I don’t think it’s ichirans fault. The meat quality In America has always seemed worse compared to where I live in Australia.
yo why tf macie jay here
Why if macie here lmao
That egg made me sad...it runs just about as fast as a building. I want my $3 back...
Strictly Dumpling 3$ for an egg ?
You could buy a whole pack of eggs with 3$ 😅
Strictly Dumpling
Mike would it possible to come to da Bronx and try Chinese restaurants and compare them to authentic Chinese food
Did you give them feedback? Seems like an easy thing to fix, not that hard to cook runny eggs.
MIKE! what if you made your own Ramen recipe?
I genuinely hope they heard what you said or watched this video so the can get some feedback on how to improve the restaurant!
Not meaning to sound harsh, but it's lunch time on a Sunday and there there is hardly anyone there, that should say a lot about their marketing. I know this is biased to the video but from what I see their focusing more on how much toilet paper there should be rather the pricing and quality of food, it's a ramen restaurant not a toilet roll gallery 😩
Just ate here. Prices changed. Recommended set was $24 and Mocha pudding was $8.99
Was it good?
obsidiana07 I just had it yesterday with the recommended set and they fixed the egg problem and it is very good but I recommend medium noodles instead of firm (that’s my preference)
It's still double the price I pay here in Asia (exactly double), I don't think it's that good I've had many a lot better ones before in Japan, I prefer small ramen places. The only special thing about Ichiran is it's open 24 hours here it's good if you work till late.
@@loveislove2359 Wait are you comparing prices to another ichiran recommended set or to a small ramen joint?
@@loveislove2359 bro ichiran ramen is the best in Japan,I went to Japan three times and tried alot of ramen places ichiran is easily still the best for me
Price Comparison (Japan vs US)
Ramen : $8 vs $19
Kae-Dama : $2 vs $4
Egg: $1 vs $3
Matcha Pudding: $4 vs $10
IKR people are like Japan's so expensive. Meanwhile people in SOFLO and NYC be like....no it's not though xD
@@juliag3461 A large pizza hut pizza cost 36 $ in japan and its pretty much equal to a medium or small in the US.

that egg made me cry a little bit on the inside.
annie lee me too and I HATE runny eggs
Portia J Runny eggs are sooooooo GOOOOOOOOODDDDD
Andreiwin ive tried a million times to get over it...i just cant lol They are however aesthetically pleasing
The biggest tragedy is no sauce to dip the egg with, other than the broth.
i love runny eggs.. soo good in soup. honestly, every kind of egg is amazing.
Nope. Not worth it what so ever. $3.00 Egg? Not even that good? $10.00 for a small dessert??? Overpriced as hell

its worth to me imo. I dont like boil egg. i always throw up from the texture and the smell xD
@@veridiumundaunted7978 Well, we have plenty of reasonably priced food as well. So there is no excuse for it to be mediocre.
Its still worth it honestly realistically you’ll play $25 if you get the recommended set they have now and there’s no tip so it’s the same as most restaurants in ny
That Japanese chef who served you that overcooked Egg has brought 1000 years worth of shame to his family.
How do you know that chef is Japanese

In Bangladesh 1 ramen bowl costs 400 taka, which is 4.74 dollars...
I went to the one in Brooklyn yesterday and I had to peel my own egg and it was soft boiled.
Looks like they changed it a bit in the 2 years since you went there.
they probably watch his video lol
It’s a good thing that they listen to customer review. I went there also last month and it was good. Expensive though which is not new to me anymore especially in New York

@@kyylerentz8021 what restaurant is it?
In Japan Ichiran ramen is ¥850 which is about $8. I get Ichiran every other week when I go out and feeling like getting some ramen.
$3 for a hard boiled egg... $10 for dessert? Sorry, not worth the price. I can get an entire meal for that, so disappointing :(
T.C. Williams This is a tourist trap, most tourist areas are overprice. You can get cheaper ramen elsewhere. You are pretty much paying for the experience.
And the name. "Ichiran Ramen" is well known, while "Corner Ramen Shop" may be just as good and a third of the price.
true
yeah a bowl of ramen in san jose is only about 9 bucks!
I can get 2 dozen eggs for $2.40 at the grocery store. Such a scam.

Me too. Still tastes pretty good tho.
lira glock Lmao😂😂
Would rather imagine and spend 50 cents than spending $50 for something I'm going to eat within a few minutes.
lira glock those packages. You buy 2.5$ bones and boil then for a bit. Then add some vegetables or mushrooms and some meat. I'm sure total it's about 5-6$, you have great ramen!
If you have 2 days to spare, you can certainly make a great ramen yourself
imagine serving him and just hearing him talk to ramen like his lover
overpriced + food less good = lack of customers
in his defense he stated the only major difference was the egg was cooked wrong, and that the ramen was pretty much the same.
If this was $14 like it is in Japan, then they would have a crazy amount of customers however it is understandable since they just open up their first restaurant in America
@@nintee9877 its cos of NYC. Just rent for the building is a lot so they have to increase the prices to make a profit.

Mahogany Black idk why americans are so customed in giving tips
because servers here are paid such a low wage, tips are the only way they can make ends meet.
Even with no tips you still find $36 for a bowl of soup and noodles worth it? Basically with you're logic it was still a $30 bowl of ramen and vastly overpriced i would not pay any more than $12 for something like that.
here in sweden it would be acceptale for a bowl ofnoodles somewhere in the 8-10 dollar range
check out ippudo ramen in manhattan. they will NOT let you down. Ramen with a perfectly runny egg, perfectly tender chashu and a refill will run you around 20$. Its definitely worth the subway ride and the wait
and their pork buns are to die for. Ramen with a second helping with all the accoutrements AND two delicious pork buns for a grand total of 28$ before tax and tip. this isn't even a competition in my book.
Went to Ippudo on my first visit to NYC in January. I've never really had "real" ramen before, as there are barely any ramen places in my city (maybe 3?) and they're all pretty shitty. The tonkotsu broth at Ippudo is what I dream about every night... The egg was perfect and that pork... oh my! I went on a mission in Vancouver (nearby city to me; Asian central) when I returned to find something remotely similar to Ippudo. Nope!
Ippudo is my favorite place. I go there every time I'm in NYC.
The tonkotsu wasn't strong enough. I recommend zundoya instead if you're into rich tonkotsu.
Went there tonight... did not disappoint at all.
Me: eating
Mike: Look at all the particles of spice just clinging on to those noodles for dear life, swimming in that elixir of fatty broth...
18.90 for ramen, that's like Manhattan price. That explains why it's empty .
Its not empty though there was like 10-12 people inside could be more on other times and the prices are very high so they are still making like 10-20$ in profit on each person , you probably are right because of the prices but rest of new york is generally expensive(not as much) I bet most people just to try it specifically because the price and japan noodle expierence
He was there on a Sunday afternoon. That's why there's not many people there.

The price went up since you went, its now 40.40$ for the recommended set. However i decided to skip that and just go with the Ramen with a few extras, esp the extra noodles. My egg looked better than yours did though, guess it all depends. I liked my noodles Firm, as it softened to perfect texture while swimming in the broth :)

Ichiran ramen is my favorite in Japan! My father is half Japanese and whenever we go visit Japan, we always have to eat at Ichiran. My family is bias towards Ichiran though. My grandfather is British and his first Japanese dish when he moved to Fukuoka was ramen. My grandpa started dining at Ichiran back in early 1971 and he took my father, grandma, and aunt there at least once every 2 weeks soon after. They literally saw my family grow up and I'm glad to see their business expanded as well. However, I was born and lived in NYC most of my life and the taste at Ichiran in Brooklyn is a little different. Not bad by any means, but it's not as amazing as the one in Japan. It's my 3rd favorite ramen in NYC after the extra fatty tonkotsu ramen at Momosan and the tonkotsu ramen at Ippudo.
You could tell by the chalky texture of the yolk and the gray discoloration around it that the egg was overcooked and old.
If at the very least it was a hard-boiled egg... but no, it was a blatantly overcooked egg. Ew.
???don't know about you or Mike, but that egg looked perfect, runny=undercooked=bad.
he said that it was a tea egg, that might explain the grey colour

You should see our rent prices lol
Let me update, me and my best friends drove to Brooklyn and ate there. It was the best Ramen I ever had. If the Ichrain is better in Japan I'll die.
The egg was actually soft boiled when I went. So they got it together after this video. But it s crazy expensive
Obviously Ichrain is much better in Japan
Just rewatched your Japan video and noticed that you ordered the strongest amount of flavor. In this video, you ordered medium. So that may be the reason why the ramen in NY is slightly less flavorful than the one in Japan?
Sabrina Wong Yeah.
didn't he go to that place (japan) twice?
Yes I noticed that too
Nah ur wong

The price is why its empty.
Jay Sims and the egg
yeah i have to agree, $38 for that combo is a bit much, but considering it is high quality (minus the egg) i would much rather drive to NY and pay more than brave a flight to Osaka to get Ichiran Ramen.
Even for NY standards that's really pricey.
Even for restaurants in Manhattan where food is pricey, it is pricey.
It was empty because it was a midday Sunday.
I'm torturing myself... I'm starving and yet... I can't stop watching 😂😂😭

The person behind the window is probably like why are u talking about love its just ramen. Nice video tho keep it up!
That egg was disappointing.. overcooked
I really hope the owner of Ichiran Ramen in NY saw this video. The embarrassment of that egg alone is enough to not make me want to go there. That was so disgusting... And they have the audacity to charge people $3 for that??? Fuck that...
Alex Lopez nigga you can get a dozen eggs for less.
Tungchu92 I know, for real!
Jake Go you can probably make better eggs at half the price
Alex Lopez I still want to go, but will never order their eggs.
jus avoid the egg....u cant punish yourself by not goin there just because of the egg
The pork look dried out, probably overcooked along with the egg.
Warren R thankfully they fixed everything, and lowered the prices. I was here just a few days ago
That's not an issue with the kitchen. Chashu is all cooked sous vide, with every single drop of moisture in the package retained in the pork, so it's moist anyway. Bitch at the factory, pork that encounters even a single COSMETIC issue is normally relegated to the staff, quality aside. (Staff pork better tho, it's often basically chopped thick and has a real bite)
The reason it isn't busy is because it didn't meet the expectations of the people, in other words it just wasn't worth the money. Probably wasn't good and overpriced.
It's the price. No one gonna spend more than $15 bucks for Ramen.
$15 bucks that is still expensive for a bowl of ramen. i can go to my local pho restaurant and get a xl bowl of pho for $10 bucks.
Oh it sure made my mouth watered when I watch you eat all that ramen goodness but holy shit the price is ridiculous and no wonder the place looked pretty empty for lunch time. :)
I went there last week and the egg looked like the one you had in Japan, and I had to peel it myself. Easily the best Ramen I've ever had.
If you want really good Tonkotsu Ramen for a very good price then I highly recommend a place in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles called "Shin Sen Gumi". Please do a review of that. Price is very good and the quality is very good as well.
nooooo...... u should try silver lake ramen on sunset Blvd.... it's really good and at a really great price
He's in New York now, Mitsuwa Marketplace has Santouka Ramen inside. pretty good quality for the price.
YES. love that place!!!
I agree! Shin Sen Gumi is my go-to anytime I'm in LA. Long wait in the evenings, but it's worth it.
CentralMana I've been to both. While shin sen gumi is super good, this NY place is an echelon above for sure. Still a rip off tho...
Man I can make a better egg than that...
Also wonder if they price hike is because they need to run that other building to make the noodles. Maybe they have a better/cheaper way to make them in Japan because the ingredients are easier to get and process?
I’m sitting here crying because of a history of abusive parents. I decided I needed a little Mike Chen to cheer me up. Thanks, Mike.

The price to eat in the USA is ridiculous.
Taryn _xoxo or everything is expensive to get
Southern Hemisphere because of demand
Well buying local supplies is different from buying overseas. I bet the Ichiran in New York imports most of their ingredients from Japan hence the price difference.
Its not... in fact ask anybody from another country how much food is given for the price they pay. Obviously if you go to a specialty restaurant in Brooklyn you are going to pay more...
Taryn _xoxo still less expensive than flying to Japan just to eat ramen
For 3 dollars in sweden you can get 20 - 25 eggs

Have you been to Ivan Ramen in NYC? Interested to hear your thoughts on it.
good god that egg looked terrible
It looks okay. At least not a wimpy egg.
In ramen i couldn't imagine eating a fully hard boiled egg with the yolk like that, especially when it cost $3 for it

Glad to know you found it favorably compared! It's one of the best bowls I've had in the city, for sure. Worth mentioning that tip is included in the price, though. Still an expensive bowl, but definitely helps that you don't tip.
The real question: Does he chew before swallowing?
I'm from California, I went to Kyoto Japan last year and stayed for about 7 weeks and in that time period I had gone to ichiran 2-3 times a week seriously phenomenal food!!!! Now I'm back in the States trying to recreate or find some ramen like it, I'm almost depressed that I can't have that flavor again literally debating getting a plane ticket to either new York or Japan just to eat there again
Have you tried Daikokuya ? Just google it
Hey Mike, there's a Go Go Curry in NYC now. You should compare that to the one in Japan too :)
Go Go Curry Rangers...
WHAT !! that's a crazy price I lived in Japan many years usually about $13 for a bowl of good ramen with extras .
For those of you wondering why this ramen is more expensive than the one in Japan. Is because that the ingredients are way harder to obtain here in NY. They usually get shipped from Japan...
I’ve had Ichiran in Japan and HK and it’s by far the greatest ramen I’ve ever had. I’ve been debating visiting the NY location... but that egg 🤨
I just went last week, I got a much nicer runny egg that you have to peel yourself. It was pricey though. I had the set 4 extra chasu and kaedama, it was 38.50 in the end.
I made ramen after binge watching your videos. I don’t like runny eggs so I cooked mine for 8 mins instead of 6 (recommended). I did let it sit in a mixture of soy, sugar, vinegar and sesame oil. It was soooo delicious. I even made the roasted pork belly. Shout out to my local Asian market. Hot pot up next 😩💞
Best ramen I’ve ever had is actually outside of NYC. Ramen Musashi in Westchester.
It’s an offshoot of a Japanese grocery store; basically a side cafeteria. Absolutely phenomenal, hole-in-the-wall ramen!
$$$$$ welcome to NY, leave your wallet with the man.
Terakawa Ramen is a third of the price ($11 for my favorite bowl, the mayu bowl) and three times more flavorful. Both the Philly location and the NYC location are fantastic.
I LOVE TERAKAWA!!!! Yeeeeessss!!!!

I tried food there recently and it was amazing. They’re line was so full all the time.
35$ for extra noodles, egg and a pudding is ludicrous, no matter how good the ramen is. In montreal, we have a place called Sumo Ramen, wwhich isn't the best ramen, but it's pretty damn good, and for a bowl, double noodles, extra egg, a gyoza and spring roll appetizers and a drink, comes to 28$. And you're destroyed after a meal like that. You won't be, Mike, cuz you've got a black hole for a stomach, but you knew that lol

When I saw the title, I already can guess that the one in NY would be a lot more expensive. Ramen in Japan is not that expensive even with the add-ons. Pure highway robbery.
mr. strictly dumpling, I always take your recommendation on ramen shops you've made here in japan....Tomita ramen is one of the most delicious tsukemen bowls I've had....but I believe this video misleads the public that hasn't been to Japan, let alone had authentic Japanese noodles. I live in Tokyo, and if u told me tokyo's ichiran ramen (which is a chain shop) costs ¥3500, I would flip my kid that a chain shop would cost that much, and 100% would never go. so to say it's anywhere close, in my opinion, would be the understatement of the century, especially after I saw that aji-tamago wannabe over there in NY....keep the videos coming brotha! big fan :)
The prices in the US is insane lol
CharismaticEnigma121 This is a tourist trap, not the entire US.
CharismaticEnigma121 it's even more expensive in the uk and not as good
you can get a good bowl of ramen for under $10 in different shops. $2 refills too.
nah, 16 quid for akamaru special in london at ippudo, add a kaedama thats 18 pounds max, its cheaper than ichiran in the US, and its great with RUNNY EGGS.
Eddie Winchester whereabouts is it in london? No good ramen spots near me but Londons only a short train journey so can easily get there
I thought when you said there was such a long wait to get in when they first opened and basically no one there now that the food must have been bad. But those prices are highway robbery...I know New Your is expencive but man...
I'm going to the spot in Japan...with the price of the ticket, hotel stay AND quality of the food there, Mike has convinced me I would get a more amazing food memory in Japan. It's all about the food memory, village.
i think the reason why the broth had less flavor is because you chose medium instead of strong. When you ate the ramen in japan you chose strong flavor.
i guess the egg wasnt runny bc for some reason americans are always afraid of getting soalmonella of everything that is a bit raw xD
Fabienne you're right. If you didn't know, salmonella resides on the shell, so the runniness has nothing to do with it.
I tried to order soooo many times half cooked eggs in america and they would always say they only sell hard boiled ones bc of salmonella. Salmonella can get into the eggs if you boil them and get a crack through which the conterminated water could get into the egg. If you hard boil them the salmonella gets "cooked off"
I have never had issues getting runny eggs in European counzries except in spain
it depends on how long it was boiled. b/w 6-13 mins will get you a nice runny *soft* boiled egg. what mike got was a *hard* boiled egg
I think there are food safety regulations that require eggs to be cooked at a specific temperature in some states?
jojocapy this is also a possibility
seeing his passion and love for this food is lovely ^^
the egg is non-negotiable for me :(

Why the fuck is that so expensive? It ain't even worth it and that egg looked terrible.
I go back to this video every year it’s like tradition at this point
Omg I genuinely felt pissed when he cut the egg open. Wtf? #FoodieProblems
Exactly. How hard is it to make a 6 minute egg-and it had not even been marinated, as it should be for ramen
Running eggs make me run away but I dislike hard boiled eggs too. I fancy deep fried eggs, though.
You could've made the comment without the #FoodieProblems
I hope the twelve rolls of toilet paper does not indicate that the patrons will soon need them!! Everything in New York is very expensive even "inexpensive" noodles and hard boiled eggs.
He is so happy when he eats!! Makes me happy too!!
Bro they are the people buying all that toilet paper lol
