lol. looking forward to the utsuri discussion. seeing a hi and shiro utsuri in one pond is a sight to behold. I was wondering though. I don't seem to find utsuri in the general petshop. Are they rarer buys?
+Dee From Brooklyn That is a great question. The best advice I can give you at the moment is to not overdo it with the color enhancing food as it will mess with your white tones. This is a topic we will cover with Shawn!.
+ThePondDigger great. . i have seen a lot of foods claim to enhance color but i worry about all the fillers. adding things like duckweed or lettuce just ends up a mess.. any food preference would be welcome
The koi get more and more colorful. Although, how do you have them keep those healthy colors? I know that guppies, and flamingos get there deep colors from feed like shrimps and special high caroteine to have theres. Guppies can eat tuberflex worms. Goldfish and koi do change depending on feed and season. Also how they are kept.
Nice video as always Eric :) To be honest I think I'm the only one that if I like that pattern now and like the fish I will buy it, I'm not really bothered about how it turns out in the future because to me it's really about the personality and I have some 20 year old + koi fish that we rescued when they were tiny ( not fry but tiny ) because the owner couldn't look after them anymore because he was getting old and could hardly walk outside to feed or treat them. So we rescued them and they were really pretty and bright, but now they are really dull ( one orange GinRin has turned cream/light brown over the years ) but as I said before it doesn't matter to me, and now they are the friendliest, but greediest fish in the pond!!
Hehe I picked the same. But if I was looking for a show fish. Well I think I'd have to see what els is on the property. I bet I could find something even better. But most likely I'd have to pay a lot more for it.
Nice to see you picked the fish any genuine breeder/shower would of culled, (TRADIONALIST) The red ring on the eye is a fault.. This doesn't take away from the beauty of the fish in my eyes.. If you just want a pond for relaxation..
Dude! =) You forgot to share your favorite!? Lol Thank you and Shawn McHenry for making these koi videos. I've been learning lots - it's been helpful to me, training my eye to look for what's expected in quality koi and their many varieties. ^_^
12 by 12 by4. It's funny. I have a 12 by 12 by 8 spot in my home. That would make a nice pond. Most of the work is dun as it was made for plants. But I'd like to make a pond out of it. Some day. But that's a lot of water to evaporate into the walls. Any ideas. Great pond digger?
Thanks so much for you both taking the time and making these very informative videos.
I love all the koi fish in the pond! their colour is awesome!
+M. Julian I agree!
Yus! Chose the one you did again! Im learning 😎
I picked the same although the more traditional patterned koi was also a great fish.
+Tom Comins Thanks for participating!

have to ask a question .I heard some koi breeders use epsom salts on koi in there holding tanks is it true
+sissy murphy I am not sure about the koi breeders but I can tell you I used it all the time when I was breeding rare African Cichlids
Why is it used .To medicate or for some other reason .Is it used like pond salt is used or to condition water .I am mystified by this .

+Victor Baker You will need to water proof the planter. Consider using a rubber liner and of course set up a good life support system for the koi!
on mystic koi and water gardens
+Feraz Sahabdool That is correct.
