I really like that you two are going over the different pattern types and with 3 examples of each type. I think I would pick #1. There's something about the mirrored pattern and the possibilities it could change into. I really like #2 also! :) Thank you guys for making this series!
I have a Kikokuryu that I bought at a pet store. He has the best personality of all the Koi in my pond. He was the 1st one bought. I also have a few Showa and Kohaku. But I love the Kiko's
My favourite kind of koi. Eric when it comes to ponds, You The Man ! I've learned a lot from Your videos. You deserve a Noble Peace prize for helping to create peace, beauty, and good vibes in Peoples lives , and environments. Respect
Hi guys! I love your videos. I have a question for you - I have a fish and I can't distinguish whether it's truly a beni kikokuryu or a doitsu kujaku. Do you think there's a comparison video with those two varieties in a future video?
Yup a Ginga is a scaled Kikokuryu the same way a Matsukawabake is a scaled Kumonryu getting my hand on 3 nice ginga for a discussion might be a little tough though. Maybe this fall.
Great suggestion. I will look forward to doing this series as you suggested. IN fact we have many koi varieties that we have yet to do like Kumonryu one of my absolute favorites! But like Shawn mentioned we work hard to have 3 nice koi to use in the discussion for educational purposes. Stay tuned and THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Eric and Shawn, keep these videos coming. Learning so much from Shawn's comments. Not always able to pick the same koi as Shawn. I think it is my bias coming through. I pick #3 because I love the deep color of the orange like Goshiki.
+D S Koi WE are working on going even DEEPER on the explanations. We have already filmed and edited some super in depth discussions. There is so much to learn!
This series is rad, keep it up! And just missed you guys when you were down in La Jolla last month for San Diego Koi Club. Do you have a schedule posted somewhere or when will you be in San Diego again? Anyway, I have one just like # 2 here but he's orange and gunmetal, pretty awesome.
I personally liked 1, but as I say I would not kick any of them out of my pond. These videos are helpful but for those of us who are not planning on purchasing the high dollar show fish what qualities should we be looking for?
+John's Pond Take all of the experience and knowledge that we are sharing with you and apply the tips and tricks when selecting any koi. We used these mature koi as an example to learn from. Thanks for watching!.
I Love these videos. My personal preference is for #1. I think it's features are the most unique of the three. What I'd like to see is more of a description of the characteristics that comprise a Kikokuryu or Doitsu or whatever type of Koi we are looking at. I find myself looking up each type of Koi in my Koi Living Jewels of the Orient" book before watching the videos. Hearing a brief description of what makes these all Kikokuryu would be helpful.
+Gabriel Wannes I hope I don't embarrass myself but I think these koi were selling for around 500.00. Let's see if we can get Shawn to chime in and reply.
Love this new playlist. Im guessing the number 3 but i like the number 1 more because of the symmetrical spots that looks really cute when viewed from above :)
I wish Shawn would go into detail for each type of koi what the judges want to see and what they don't want to see on the koi. Other than that great videos!
first you guys are great - me when I get my koi of course I'm cheap I buy little ones I try to get the ugly ones ( personally to me they are the beautiful ones) solo I will say he will pick the one that has the most black. Thank you both for all that you do. Peace be with you and yours
Thank you. I really enjoy these discussions. I feel that after what was said in this discussion and others is that that fish will bloom with a more distinct pattern and colouration instead of being the obvious choice and fish that stands out. Like you have said before pond digger and mystic koi is "the ugly duckling" . I am looking forward to what 'you' would choose being the experts.
Thanks for the reply Shawn. I have, what i think is a nice little tosai Ginga. If you get a chance could you check it out on my You Tube and let me know what you think?
Hey Steve! I checked out the koi. It's a beautiful fish. It says bred in Australia. I thought koi were illegal in Australia. Has that changed or is it okay to keep the koi you already have in the country. I'm curious to know.
Hi Guys, Koi are allowed in only two states in Australia, NSW & WA, and we can't import any since they changed the laws in the '80's. The majority of our koi we have now have been bred by dedicated hobby breeders. We don't have the luxury of being able to buy koi from Japan, we just drool at the photo's.
I’ve got to say, I miss the videos and frequent back to these from time to time.
choose 3. love the series. orange and gun metal is striking. keep the vids coming
+MARIO NEGRETE I picked the same one! Thanks for watching!
I really like that you two are going over the different pattern types and with 3 examples of each type. I think I would pick #1. There's something about the mirrored pattern and the possibilities it could change into. I really like #2 also! :) Thank you guys for making this series!
+CocoShock Labs Thank you for watching! You really can't go wrong with any of these three amazing koi.

+Wes Lee I love the series too! Thanks for watching! We will reveal Shawn's selection later today! Stay tuned.

Number 3 for me...any chance of doing a video on Ginga koi....am i correct in saying that a Ginga is a scaled Kikokuryu.
