Its neat to see battles presented over a planet, instead of just in space.
It's visually amazing but it doesn't make a lot of sense strategically to hem yourself in. Beyond just limiting half your freedom of movement there's the gravity well not that we're ever burdened with that concern in the game. There's just a lot of reasons they wouldn't fight like that unless it's like one of those unplanned engagements that happen in real life after disparate elements contact the enemy and after each side calls for reinforcement a few times you get a major battle where nobody expected or intended one.
@@johnassal5838 just imagine they are extremely high over a giant planet and there is no gravity the clouds are just so big it looks like they are in atmosphere
@@Mrmaverickism Unless they're all in a stable orbit they would still just fall down no matter how far away they are from a planet. Gravity doesn't just disappear.
@@dantheultimate2497Yeah and spaceships wouldn't use broadsides to fight each other, they'd be using railguns or lasers or missiles or something from beyond visual range; and space fighters don't leave cool glowy trails, and there aren't magic hyperspace cores that let you teleport across half the galaxy. If sci-fi was entirely realistic, it'd be boring as hell to most people.

You don't know how is laggy this game. Large-scale battles have 10-15 FPS while recording. Аfter 2:10 image is smooth (~30 fps),and farther fps increases. And don't forget - in complex, lod(level of detail) system removed - you always see best model and texture).
I made special version of complex mod for movies: optimise map, remove all unnecessary scrits, search ideal fleet size and more...
In previous video (battle 4) i make more large battle, and after 1:50 video looks smooth.
I've played it, and while fraps doesn't help, it is very much system dependent. I don't get lag at all.
The lag is the latency due of connection, in this game there is just a fps drop ^_^ game itself is not laggy
just play gearbox homeworld remastered edition, It has no lag on next gen pc.

Homeworld has amazing graphics. Although you never get a chance to look at it because your to busy managing your fleet. If your watching the battle, your probably doing something wrong like not producing more units or missing enemy movement somewhere else on the map.
Can you imagine if the background in this actually moved as if they were really above the clouds?
Atmospheric battles are atmospheric.

I wonder what is changed in the Complex mod, the background here is strikingly different and I think they've made a bunch of new weapons and utilize some new ship hulls.
So, this backround not from original Complex mod, it from "Complex Simple". And developers of complex mod not include this in Complex 10.
I still love HW2 after all these years and it's awesome playing it on a modern PC with 2560 widescreen monitor, but my "complex mod" looks different. My upgraded battlecruisers have more extra weapons that standard HW2, but not as many as in your video...

@@catsareamazing3616 Very true! a marvellous game, but Sins was an indie project that cost half a million to make so on the same scale of development as home world, not a AAA multimillion project with a multibillion dollar corporation behind it which was the type of game and development I was taking aim at ;o)
Only problem with sins is a problem shared by many an indie/small development, no threading to allow for multicore support causing it to lag like a mofo when in large games.
Something home world despite how long ago it was built, doesn't suffer from. To me it remains the second best RTS ever built and certainly the best space based RTS ever built.
New games aren't crap. No need to put down new things to elevate older ones.

nasserm20 considering homeworld 2 has the biggest mod and good graphics i still dont get why i should buy homeworld 1 remastered with pretty graphics only.
Homeworld Remastered is HW1+HW2 Remastered + HW1+HW2 Classic. and the Remastered version runs on improved HW2 engine. I think such an offer is worth it for that price and u can sure wait for sales and get it for a lower price too

Lex Radzinger I don't agree with u about that. I prefer HW2 style. I don't think light ships with just back engines should act like turrets ... I prefer HW2 style over HW1 though would like that add the ability to modify the primary target for a group of ships.

I'm annoyed that the higgarin destroyer kinda does nothing it refuses to get into the fray and sits about a safe distance away.
The new battlestar Galactic (2003>) ripped off homeworld to the enth degree. The cylon base stars and the woman in the bathtub that acts as the central mind of the ship for one example... ? Mothership, online.

the sky backdrop ruined it for me. These are huge, bulky ships with nowhere near the amount of propulsion required to fight off a planetoid's gravity. Should have had a space-like backdrop instead.
back to basic patterning electronic jammer all over the field lines....

either those are the biggest clouds EVER or the ships are tiny
it is just a custom mod. those clouds are simple texture on skybox. I chose dat background for fun and beauty. not for realism.

Ship under attack. What's our damage? Ship lost.
Those clouds look like a windows xp 2d wallpaper.. Also, why remove system lower textures for preload? 5- 10 fps also look kinda meh. There is no need to mess with game textures. In the end, results are not satisfying enough to sacrifice 60 fps.
RENOVATIO this lag comes from complex mod (too many ships for this mod). no one pc can handle it. And this background is not a texture! Homeworld uses sphere with colored vertexes for backgrounds. More you can read here simonschreibt.de/gat/homeworld-2-backgrounds/

This is exactly the kind of mod i made.. They made so many nice ships in this mod that they then decided to try remake homeworld 2 and added so much BS to it that it effectively turned it into a massive slug fest.. Overall its one the worst mods for games i have ever seen.. If you check out my channel and look up the homeworld trailer i was working on a mod a few years back that had alot of this ships in it etc without none of the dumb BS that came with complex mod 8 etc.. I would not surprise me if they try and charge a fee in the future to get the latest versions..
gold elmo You just stole the units from another mod. Your mod - is banal unitpak. There came a lot, but nobody plays in these mods.

if you try to play a quick game of complex your making a huge mistake. some complex matches can go for days if you let them.
Playing player game vs 5 Hard AI - usually takes me less then 3 hours to finish the game.
Playing vs human - less then 2 hours.
I'm still playing Complex on and off since version 6 came out - (in 2008)
I've also play Complex Enchanced and recent Comlex MIX but I still keep coming back to original version.
The good news in that with the upcoming release of HW Remastered - we're expecting Complex 10 :)
i try to drag em out as long as i possibly can when i play usually. they can last a really really long time. or you can go for the throat and wind it up quick. downside is after loading your skirmish a few times it can get buggy. hope they fixed this on the remastered version

ya. i will set it low crew, start from lowest RU, super long battles ect. makes for really long games. its fun like that but the AI will swarm you if ur not careful. they did really good on the AI for complex.
Complex 9.1 is available right now from Steam Workshop. I'll see you in space.

Quite long time ago (in 2014) there are Benchmark game type in Complex Mod
It has big starting fleets and some ai, that sends attack command for every unit.
Also it has auto cinematic camera.
I make some adjustments (changed background, startingfleets and visual range for some ships)
You can find that game type in Complex 8.4.3 version (but i don't know where you can download it in 2018)

i dont understand the hype for homeworld remastered.. i have been playing homeworld 2 complex and its brilliant with all the stuff it has added, why would i play the first homeworld just with better graphics compared to those of homeworld 2 ?
