Same, my dad played them when he was young and made me play it, he's also excited about the new one, he already made a PC and started gaming again. It doesn't even need good graphics, even remaster level is good enough but I'm hoping there will be more campaigns and maybe a Co-op campaign, even just a few is enough it would be fun to play with someone especially my dad.
Gearbox didn’t do much. Blackbird interactive was making “ship breakers”, an RTS game that used the same UI, voice actors, sound effects and play style as homeworld, but they didn’t own the rights. They tried to buy them when Sierra IP’s went on auction but gearbox won. Gearbox then allowed BB to use the homeworld name for their game that was renamed desserts of kharak.
There is something different. This song compared to those before sounds much more ancient, more legendary, much more mythical. Something more ancient than the ancients. This might be the song of the revelation of the existence of us....... Earth.....

Well, this didn't age well. There's no new and captivating melody. The first time we face the Incarnate, we're even baited with a track based on HW2 Keeper theme. And there's also a new edition of Adagio for Strings, which we've already heard in the trailer. Other than that... nothing memorable.
The most incredible is a loop when it comes to Homeworld and Battlestar Galactica. You see, the first Home world was supposed to be BSG game but they didn't get a license. Both Homeworld games had a soundtrack which had heavy Middle Eastern music, inspiring the new Battlestar Galactica show soundtrack. Now this OST here sounds like inspired by the McCreary OST for new BSG soundtrack.
My first RTS and space game, picked it up when I was 8 years old as I thought the front picture on the disk case looked cool. Hardly knowing anything about these types of games, only previously played games on nintendo it took aloooot of effort to complete even a single campaign. Loved every second of it, cryid my eyes out whenever the poor Hiigarans got blasted by the Tiidan or other horrible monstrosities. I LOVE THIS UNIVERSE!
Please bring back the classic Homeworld 1 type of music. Space ambient that sounded as if space and music were glued together and helped open up every ones eyes of how small we really are compared to space. I am not mad at all because it's Homeworld 3 I would even be happier if the music tilts towards a 70% - 40% in favor of Homeworld 1 style type of music.
The best game of its kind, even today, more than 20 years after playing the original, I still play the remastered version from time to time. Please do not take too long to release version 3. 🙏
I really hope you guys bring back a prog rock tribute for the ending credits. I loved it so much how you were able to sneak in something from YES for homeworld 1.
@@Ydrakar Ya I only learned that a few years ago after playing the remaster it was a wonderful addition to the games credits and set a really impactful mood. While the rest of the soundtrack gave off a mood of scale and mystery 'Homeworld" tied it back down the the personal level, the story of the individuals on the journey.
I know it's asking a lot, but is there any way for the early backers to get downloadables of the soundtrack? Paul Ruskay's work is easily one of the MAIN reasons I bought in. I know, there are YT->MP3 converters, but I feel like that route is shady, and the quality suffers. Why not take the opportunity to give back to your community?
No other game series, and very few films, have managed to capture the sheer awesome vastness of space. Homeworld is one of the franchises that manages to accomplish this.

Played every single entry multiple times since then. DoK was a masterpiece. I love the parallel between the vastness of space and the Great Desert; the team nailed it. The Expedition Manual is brilliant; Just by reading it we can tell the team at BBI _understands_ what makes Homeworld, Homeworld. I'm very excited to see the ideas for HW3. Like the unknowns behind the Eye of Aarran, I have no specific expectations; I'm open to whatever we get. Last but not least: don't rush the game! Take the time you need to make the game as good as you (dev team) feel it must be.

Yet what would a race that literally were almost living gods have that was considered even ancient and revered to them? What would it be that would even shock and perhaps shake the civilizations of the Homeworld Galaxy? Could this be the song of the lost Homeworld of the ancients? Could this be the song of us?..... Of................................ Earth?.... Our home?... The Homeworld.......
is it just me, but I was never the biggest fan of the vocal HW tracks, or these 'arabian-nights' style tracks. I liked the instrumental ambient music which made you feel like you were floating in the void of space, not walking across a desert ;)
Love the music, please make the game worth the wait and take all the time you need. Kharak had a huge potential, but for me ended up feeling like an incomplete product, with very few multiplayer maps, dumb AI and a campaign which - though true to the homeworld spirit - ended for me after just 8h of gameplay.
Have you tried it now? I'm playing through the campaign a second time right now after not having touched it since I finished it a week after the release. The current version is a LOT more polished and is a joy to play.
The tune sounds good, but the singing is off in many places, out of time or off-note. The mixing is a bit harsh, with the vocals not gelling together as good as they could. I hope that this will continue to be improved before the game releases.
It sounds good, but i wish it was more tribal music and less "battlestar Galactica" with the chants... I enjoy chanting but it need to have that middle east vibe to it...

Listened to both tracks and, while they're great, I was hoping they were more like Homeworld 1 rather than 2. HW1 music was more subdued, synthy, conveyed the vastness and mystery of space a lot more, and had a more retro feel. The arabic motives don't suit the game that much for me, and I have a feeling they want to take the game in a fantasy direction, like HW2 was compared to H1. HW2 had all these mystic elements, the eye of Arran, the progenitors, bring Sajuuk to bear, etc and I really preferred the first game, which was a lot more realistic, a very simple and powerful plot. I will love HW3, but I'm not expecting it to beat 1. Homeworld 1 was audiovisual poetry.

This is exactly the sound I'd expect to hear in HM3. It brings me right back to that unique atmosphere and feeling from the first and second game.

From someone who grew up on Homeworld 1, 2 and Cataclysm. Words cannot express how excited, and the anticipation for Homeworld 3.
Been playing this franchise since 2005, father introduced me to it and I have never been more excited for a game like this in along time.
No other game series, and very few films, have managed to capture the sheer awesome vastness of space. Homeworld is one of the franchises that manages to accomplish this.
I can totally picture the mandatory mothership launch sequence with this track, each game had a masterfully crafted intro scene.
This piece is absolutely haunting, i can hardly imagine the kind of scene it'll be used for in game.
