*CORRECTION:* The NOMVDIC 0.65" DLP chip (DLP650TE) does shift 4x, but allows for higher refresh rates and lower input lag. The 0.66" DLP chip is on the one that only needs 2x pixel shifts, I clicked on the wrong datasheet when writing my script. *UPDATE:* The XGIMI Horizon Ultra firmware update published September 23 has fixed the input lag, and I now measure 18.3ms in game mode with "boost" on.
Awesome review - as always Rob TY. Looking fwd to your Nomadic calibrations. Fwiw-2 lil felt bumpers under handle over magnets quieted mine couple dbs. Still weird buzz instead of fan whir but a bit better. Could the usb-c input which shows same frame rates as the hdmi input be used with an adapter as a second input for Firestick? Find it Easy getting used to blacks and contrast 😊
Hello, I was thinking of buying the xgimi ultra, but the contrast and brightness disappointed me. But the fact that the fan is very quiet, good colors, design and the optical zoom make it quite attractive. With the update were you able to improve any aspect of the image? Is something noticeable or was it just the longer response time you mentioned. I hope you can answer my question
This is one of the most impressive projector reviews I have seen. Your detail, explanations, and thoroughness make choosing a quality projector a lot eaiser. Exceptionally well done! Thank you!
I bought a XGIMI Horizon Ultra, and will be returning it. His review here is dead on accurate. The XGIMI's muddy blacks just ruins the projector - but it does have excellent 3D and sound. Anywho, this guy has a ton of credibility with me after seeing this and comparing it to what I got. Even the recommended brightness setting is exactly what I set mine to without seeing this first. The paid shill TH-camrs out there saying this projector is amazing and the black levels are great, they have no credibility.
I cannot imagine the amount of time you have put into just this video alone! There are so many facets to this subject that it's easy to go down the rabbit hole in any one of them and spend a crazy amount of time uncovering data and nuances. Thank you for providing such valuable content!
Seriously!!! 😂😂😂 He is Paid to make these videos. Nothing he is doing I would consider Working. His conclusions are laughable. You watched a paid advertisement.
Rob, First off, thanks so much for the time and diligence that you put into your reviews. You literally covered every aspect of these lifestyle projectors that I was looking for in a review. You must spend quite some time practicing your presentation to give the volume of information within less than a halfhours time. A couple of days ago , You promised review today and delivered. Always overachieving on the presentation. OUTSTANDING review. Thanks Bud!!
I bought the XGIMI Horizon Ultra and this review is dead on accurate. The terrible black levels ruin everything - but the 3D and software and sound are great. I'll be returning it because of those awful black levels - which is a shame since day time scenes look great and in a dark room it gets plenty bright enough to make HDR look believable (I'm not sure I'd want it to get any brighter). But man, the second you go into a dark scene or a night time scene, it's just flat out grayish and washed out. So anywho, this guy has 100% credibility with me, unlike those shills out there saying the terrible black levels aren't actually bad - yes, they really are that bad. If the C1 had 3D, I'd probably buy that - but man, leaving out 3D for absolutely no reason just makes it a non-starter for me. I wish projector makers would stop following TV trends and realize that people buying projectors are different than people buying TVs, and want a different experience.
The C1 Pro has 3D. Also higher brightness, contrast and color gamut. Unfortunately, the only reviews out there are in Chinese and I find their testing methodology questionable.
@@Stargaze79 well they don't sell it in the US, and I wouldn't spend $1800 on something from Aliexpress. Hopefully they bring it to the US through major stores like Amazon or Best Buy, but there's no reason this US version of the C1 can't support 3D, they just removed it to remove it because it's the trendy thing to do. It's really lame.
Man! And I wanted so much to buy this projector for 3d. And decent 2d experience... Now reading you're comment, I'm ruined my plan😢😂 And I don't know what projector to chose anymore. Did you try to different manual settings on contrast... Something I don't know...? I don't care about how acurate is the scene... The point is that image to look good, cinematic. My QLED tv display washed out black levels on PC HDMI so I always I set from driver -10 brigetness and +25 contrast, and the image become balanced. To native tv image. I'm at first video projector. And I wanted for 3d. For normal viewing experience I don't care if I had to tweak some settings.
@@mortalaxe122 So I messed around with this thing extensively, and I will say I got much better results after going menu by menu, turning on local contrast to high, dynamic contrast to on, and brightness never to higher than 6 - but generally on 5. However, there's also an issue if you use dynamic contrast and a brightness of 4 or less, that you get really odd results that look a lot worse. One thing I didn't figure out for a while, is that when Dolby Vision is enabled, you can go in and still tweak the settings - by default it's way too blown out and it's not obvious you can change anything since it's settings are under a different menu. Anyways, with that said, after really messing with all the settings, I got what I think is an acceptable black level out of it, but it's still pretty bad in my opinion - but the daytime scenes of anything new in 4K Dolby Vision just look insane once I got in there and tweaked everything. So I ended up keeping it, but really it came down to the very last day, and frankly I didn't feel like going through the return process and hooking my old projector up again, etc. I'm using this in a small dedicated theater room with a screen - if you're using it in a bedroom or a place with more ambient light, or you're just not that picky, it might be a lot more acceptable. Personally, if I had to do it over again, I'd probably have just waited another 6-months and see what is new that is coming out. Also, Best Buy has a $1999 TV, with local dimming, that is 100" with free on-wall installation - and it has Dolby Vision, all the latest and greatest. Really, I'd probably buy that, except for me personally, using a TV as a theater screen just doesn't look right, it looks like you're looking at a TV as opposed to theater - but most people don't seem to think that's an issue. Anyways, for other people that aren't me, I'd almost certainly go with the 100" TV - and for me, I only have a 94" theater screen, so it'd actually be bigger. But I have a very dark theater room - if you're doing something in an area with any sort of light leakage, I'd absolutely get the TV which will be much much brighter than even a high end projector.
I'm in Australia and unfortunately the only one available was the ultra, it's not so bad... Dolby vision with an ALR screen GREATLY helps the blacks along with the latest firmware
Thank you for the reveiw. Wish C1 had optical zoom, It would be perfect. Dolby Vision changes the game, hopefully within a year other producers will follow the trend and we can see a big competition and better prices.
I think your reviews are constantly improving , big thumbs up for that. I love that you now have a method to combat manufacturers boosting sequential contrast falsely. I also think it's great that you're reviewing out of the box colour accuracy. So few will ever have a professional calibration on their projector so out of the box accuracy is really important. Projector manufacturers need to be called out on this more. Really looking forward to your 2023 UST shootout. Hopefully featuring the Nexigo Aurora Pro, Formovie Theater, AWOL 3500 and Epson LS800.
@@TheHookUp Just a quick question regarding the Nexigo Aurora Pro (their kickstarter runs out before October 13th). Is laser speckle a thing with those kind of UST projectors too? their kickstarter pricing seems very tempting but it's still a lot of money...
@@peterpepepedroLaser speckle is a much smaller issue with USTs due to the smaller throw distance, and I've also found that UST specific CLR screens tend to minimize speckle.
I just received my Horizon Ultra and can say it has surpassed my expectations. I don't have the best eyseight so NITs and contrast are not to different to me seeing your comparisons. The picture is very high quality and is bright enough for me even with curtains open duting the day, the blacks look black and whites are whites and the colour is on point. It is a very quiet unit and the Harmon Kardon speakers are high quality with great sound and pretty loud too. The remote is pretty good too, it has differend indents on the buttons (raised, flat, concaved, textured volume buttons +-) so can easliy be used in the dark by just feeling the buttons. The only thing missing for me is the mouse curser button on the older Xgimi remotes. The android TV was a main selling point for me as i have it mounted behind me and could not connect my shield to it. I had an instant update available which added more functions and changed the settings display to be more flexible and friendly. All in all i'm glad i bought this as an upgrade to my very dated Xgimi Polar Z6, i was going to buy the Horizon Pro then thought, for the extra i should buy the ultra, and got a free dongle so all good :).
Great review and comparison. My XGIMI Ultra arrived today after your video. I was expecting to maybe send it back.....but out of the box it had an amazing picture on 120 inch that blew away anything I seen before. I don't think my eyes could possibly see anything better. I couldn't find anything that would make any of the other projectors more attractive. Maybe I can't see contrast anymore but I did not see anything that wasn't perfect.
Same here! I just got my Ultra last week and was blown away by it's brightness and sharpness. I love the optical zoom and the sliding door. Great 3D also. I thought the contrast was fine. It can be adjusted under the hdr setting to strong. Yes, I wish the black level is better but it can be improved by lowering the iris. It was defaulted to 8 but I lowered it to 3 and 4. This projector is super quiet too! Much quieter than my Epson 5050ub which I had
@@ryaneckel5601 I don't think any of these projectors are a bad option except maybe the laser speckle issue, that's just not a problem I want to work with. even in his videos, they are so close that it would come down to features and prices. I can find stuff on the C1 I don't think I will like... and I could not see any reason to want a different model. The X5 was my original wanted item but the chinese OS and lack of adjustability, no 3d, and now the lack of accuracy. All considered... I can actually tell the difference between that one and the others.
This was the review I've been waiting for. It seems like everyone was pumping out a review of the Horizon Ultra at the exact same time. Probably embargo but still looks sus. I hope your channel really takes off.
Awesome video! Thanks for mentioning the 3D capability for the projectors, as I've asked in my comment for a previous video. I'll keep following the projector reviews because I'm planning my home theater build for the end of next year and your videos are a major part of my future buying choice.
I’ve been doing lots of research on 4k laser projectors and to me the Hisense C1 and the Horizon Ultra are a winner. I don’t do gaming but there are who prefer a projector for gaming. However, I’m more of a movie enthusiast so the Hisense C1 is my choice 😊
well I'm a dummy who's going to suck on all your hard research. It now october 2024 and unless you stop me with an even better idea, I am going to follow your bread crumbs on the Hisense C1. Thankyou buddy.
Thank you so much for this honest review and comparison! Everywhere else I just found praise and hype for the Xgimi horizon ultra. Good black levels, very bright with 2800 ANSI lumen, good contrast, beating projectors costing twice as much...... Nice to see that there is still someone who is speaking truth!
@@TheHookUp - That seems to be the TH-cam standard. Get the projector, read the spec sheet, call it a review. I don't trust those powder puff pieces in the least. The headache is that they spent SOME time with the projector and could have taken at least some basic measurements with some cheap tools, but they failed to do so. Keep rockin' it man!
hm he still says the xgimi is good, but in dark seens it is bad. Which for instance doesnt bother me as I only watch soccer and I would game on it. So still best choice for me f.example @@paulvail7926
First of all, thank you for this test which must have taken a lot of time. I find that the two best projectors in this test are the Hisense C1 and the Xgimi Horizon Ultra. - The C1 has the best contrast so better black colors and better sharpness, brighter and integrated Netflix - Horizon Ultra has much fairer colors, better sound, better latency, optical zoom, 3D and quieter, integrated Netflix (limited to HD) For daily use for all areas, they are the best, and when it comes to design, everyone will have their own opinion.
I'm considering getting either one of these, C1 would be the clear winner at same budget but here in Europe it's 300 euro more expensive. can you tell if the C1 image quality that much better?
Incredibly detailed and informative review. Unfortunately the biggest takeaway I get is that just about any 85+ inch TV will have more than 10X the brightness and contrast.
You are the most thorough reviewer I follow, and I appreciate your videos for the objective analysis you provide. Thank you for doing the hard work so I don’t have to.
Just earned a sub. I do not think I have ever seen a more detailed review/comparison ever. Thank you for this work. Edit: Does using silver or black (alr) screens make a significant different in black levels?
The only thing those big boys have is major black floors (contrast) hell if the N1 Ultra or Hisense had a .003 black floor they would never sell Jvc, Sony or big boy epsons of course optical len's shift is a plus but come on the colors these 2 represent with close contrast numbers, thousands less, a quarter of the size and portable it's kind of a no brainer.. Unless your a complete enthusiast and have a quarter million dollar home theater and your screen costs nearly as much as your projector and your speakers cost more than both of those combined
Agree, I'm on my second (and probably last) lamp on an Epson TW3200 (think it is identical to HC8350) here and was looking to get a TW9400 for superior black levels and contrast. And 2.1x zoom and good lens shift from the back ceiling. 100" in a medium living room is very important for the whole family 😊 Nut now, these laser ones looks to be in the ball park so I guess I have to read up on how close the come (do they surpass my 10 year old TW3200 in accuracy and black levels?).
@@NirreFirre yes n1u blows 3200 out of the water and with the new portability features these new pjs. I have a benq 2050a and a hisense px1 pro ust and it's great but the n1 ultra is brighter than anything I've owned to the point you have to turn it down at night and when calibration is dialed in colors and contrast is amazing. I get no speckle from my wall since I'm not using a screen and higher gain screen don't either ... Hisesne beats it with Dolby Vision and some color depth but hisense doesn't have 3d and the gaming input lag is terrible... but if you wait 6 months like with anything in life there will be a better jmgo n2 ultra or 3 or 4 coming probably with Dolby Vision and more bells ans whistles
Saw a deal for the Hisense, almost bought it but held off after watching your review. It would have worked fine, but thanks to how in depth you get , there would have been some issues in the long run that thankfully were avoided after watching this comparison. Excellent work, subscribed!
The C1 looks great. One correction - looks like the P1000 is equipped with the same 0.65" 1080p chip as the BenQ X3000i and HT4550 which seems to shift 4x not 2x. It also seems to support 240hz at 1080p which should be 4.2ms.
Hmm, I checked the TI datasheet on it and it said 2x shift, where are you seeing 4x? It does support 1080p240hz but the Leo Bodnar lag tester can't measure that resolution (or 4k120hz).
@@TheHookUp The 1080p DLP650TE has to shift 4x per frame in order to create a 4k-like image. It is outlined on page 7.1 in the datasheet "...enables each micromirror to display four distinct pixels on the screen during every frame...". There is also a 0.66" model which is higher resolution and only needs 2x shift for 4k.
@@TheHookUp It happens :). Awesome review otherwise though! Appreciate the detail and I really like comparisons with other projectors - so many reviews out there with no comparisons these days (It's great, etc.).
I bought the Hisense C1S(China version) for only US$1,000 few months ago. Global version is so expensive😮. And I’m now using the C1 pro which is 50% brighter than C1S, highly recommended.
There are C1 air (¥5000) / C1 (¥6000)/ C1S (¥7000) / C1 Pro(¥9500) in China market. The major difference between C1 Pro and C1S(or global version C1) should be brightness (+50%) and contrast radio up to 2900 : 1. But without Dolby Vision and has different OS.
Isn't Dolby Vision a must watch most contents? What happened without it? I was debating if I should get Chinese C1 Pro for less the price of Canadian C1 for brighter pictures, but I read the Dolby Vision is more important. Does anyone know the C1 had a tilting or rotation base it can mount to? I see it online somewhere. Great video btw! I got C1 because of this video.
Thank you very much for this review, it's fantastic. I was just to hit the purchase button for the hisense C1, until your note regarding the laser speckle on ALR screens. I do have your same screen (Vividstorm Obsidian ALR 0.8) 92". I was wondering if the laser speckle comes only at certain distances or it is something always present. Also, does the C1 come with digital Zoom?
Amazing video as always. I always find all of your videos so intriguing because its fun to see how everything performs and how tech has advanced. I really want to see the C1 and P1000. While it definitely sounds/looks like the C1 has a big advantage in picture and tone mapping, I find aspects of the P1000 very interesting. Being the short throw, dlp chip, contrast, and input lag. I have a Benq 4550i but I honestly want something to where I can move it around more easily. Think Im going to get both to try them.
Great review. Thanks for the in depth insights. In your videos, you often talk about elements you don't deep dive into (e.g. adjusting iris settings to find a balance between brightness and contrast ratio, or reflectivity of your screen affecting the image). Any chance you could do a video deep diving into those various ancillary elements that play into the overall viewing experience?
I believe "true ANSI lumens" comes from Epson's complaint around the fact that DLP projectors with RGBW colour wheels would post great lumens numbers when showing white, because of the white segment on the colour wheel boosting brightness, but they would post much different (lower) ANSI lumen numbers when showing R, G, or B, whereas Epson ANSI lumens were the same (for the most part) regardless of what was being display. DLPs with an RGB only colour wheel don't suffer from this, along with DLPs with three lasers don't either.
After seeing you last review I expected bad things about the laser speckle of the JMGO - and was pleasantly suprised that it was only noticeably in certain scenarios when I got my hands on one now. I second your opinion that they must have done something that induces horizontal stripes. They don´t bother me though as they´re only visible when getting close to the projected image. Thank you for your great work!
@@wahidemran833 I would. But I lack the comparison to most of the other projectors in this video. I only have the Horizon Ultra which is also quite good but not as bright and versatile and a bit louder regarding fan noise.
@verficationaccount thanks, i just ordered one from Aliexpress, i also have no comparison except an old outdated bulb projector so im sure im going to like it. One quick question, is it as sharp as a 4k 55 inch tv (not to get specific)?
@@wahidemran833 It is very sharp and 4k does look good. I don't have a TV but I would not think that it is less sharp. Let me know what you think about it when it arrives!
@verficationaccount sure i will do. I have to wait a month due to Chinese celebrations. Now i got to plan my living room, whether to paint it grey and get a white screen or all white... whats your set up?
Had the Dangbei Mars Pro and I LOVED it. But the light went out after 2 months , returned it, got a new one , loved it and then THAT light went out at 10 months. So returned it for a full refund. So disappointing because I love everything about that projector. It was bright , clear , sharp. I will say the Dangbei customer service reps are top of the class. Very nice to deal with. Now I'm looking to get another lifestyle projector. Leaning towards the C1 or Formovie x5.
Wow! Amazing review puting all those monsters side by side. Im owner of a C1S (chinese version), my room is completly dark and its performanve is out of this world. I can´t even imagine other projector in my room, but the C1S. Thanks for another high level content!
The Hisense machines seem to consistently blow the competition out of the Box in light controlled room conditions. But Damn, damn, damn them for not including 3D.
@@brucesmith1754 but in chinese version they put 3D. I guess when they updating the firmware to Dolby Vision, it loses 3D. Wich make no sense to me att all.
One among the best review that I have come across on the comparison of projectors. It was impressive to see all the important distinction between projectors are clearly emphasized. Great work. Thank you for doing this.
Thank you very much for your wonderful video! I have one question that I hope you can help me. In Spain we only have available the Dangbei Mars Pro at around 1.300€, the C1 is not available yet, it should be available in a few weeks nevertheless the price will be around 1.900€. Do you think that the image is 40% better to justify this price difference? Thank you in advance 🙏
Fantastic review! Appreciate the depth and thoroughness you put into all of your reviews! I was considering the epson LS11000 but the Hisense C1 has really moved up my list. Before this review the XJIMI was in the running but this review saved me from being disappointed with the poor black level contrast performance! At 50% of the cost the, C1 really seems like a great option. Now I need to determine if eliminating rainbow effect with the LS11000 is worth $2k…thanks again!
@@D_H_F How about 3d, Is Dangbei good as Xgimi? Cuz I want to buy horizon ultra for 3d. But Dangbei is second on my list because has good contrast and sharp image. But the decisive factor is 3d. So... The Dangbei is closer to horizon ultra?
Great video again, Rob! I'm going to put the C1 head to head against the LS11000 next week, what a strange comparison. The Epson lens adjustment is a huge plus for my space but it really looks like the C1 is a compelling package for a fraction of the cost, so it may win out if I can figure out placement.
@@dafritz7acx I kept the C1! I liked the image quality (sharpness, color) better than the Epson, as well as the polished UI, the remote, the build quality...lots of positives with the C1! Good luck!
Incredible review as always!! Thanks for the color calibration, I’ve been looking everywhere for this…. Now if only the JMGO would get a Dolby vision update
Thanks so much for doing this review! I was starting to get fomo on the Verizon ultra because of all the TH-cam hype! I have a Sony VPL285 and a furyHD(for Dolby Vision) and I was thinking about upgrading, do you think any of these would be better/worth the upgrade or do you think I should go with a different projector? My room is A dedicated home theater with like control. It’s time to replace my bulb so making sure Im not missing out on anything else. Thanks for your advice!
The Hisense C1 would be a huge upgrade from the VPL285. Similar brightness (though the laser will seem brighter), and massively better color on the Hisense.
@@TheHookUp that’s kinda what I was thinking. I know the VPL285 is about 5 years old and the technology has gotten better by leaps and bounds, for the price do you think the C1 or should I spend a more on a Sony, JVC, or Epson? Just wanting the best quality for the price because I spend a lot of time in there
There's always variations in picture with default settings, however I find most settings can make the picture good again unless it's way off to begin with, like contrast, brightness, color temp....It's always nice to have a good pix with default settings, but screen, wall, ambient light is variable.
While you’re right about playing around with settings The problem is that a projector that already had bad contrast ratio is still going to be not so good even after the adjustments If that was the case nobody would be buying the ultra expensive stuff Just buy the cheap stuff and make it look like the expensive stuff
I want to change my wanbo T6 max for a 4k projector with over 1000 ANSI lumens. Recentrly i found your channel and i inmediately suscribe and like most of your videos because its pretty obvious the effort and professionalism that you put in your reviews, for me, now they are the gold standard when it comes choosing a projector. Finally i would like to ask, what wolud be your choice, between these projectors: Formovie X5, Hisense Vidda C1 pro, Dangbei Mars Pro or JMGO N1 Ultra, if the budget is not a problem, wich one would you pick? Fantastic video as always. I just ordered the Benq 4550i a week ago and you had me tempted to get the Hisense C1. I wish it was better for gaming because if so, I would probably return the Benq. I still might depending on my overall impressions. I love the fact the Benq is so color accurate out of the box but I wish it had better contrast and Dolby Vision. @JoelsterG Glad to hear it. Did you find the blacks to be decent? I did already watch your review before, but I'm just curious about your thoughts on that.
Bless this man. I've been waiting for this video for days and you did not disappoint! The only thing that I thought was missing was the Auto keystone correction test that you did in your last comparison video but other than that, this was a perfect review! To anyone hoping to buy the JMGO N1 ultra for its portability, word has just recently came from Chinese reviewers on a new model called the JMGO N1S Pro which is also 4K and claims to reduce the laser speckle problem even further. I've contacted JMGO about it and they said that the global version will come out early 2024. Don't know whether it'll have dolby vision support or not but it is what it is. Also, is there a big difference between the Hisense C1 and the Vidda C1 Pro? Rather confused. Don't even know whether they are both from Hisense despite the very similar design.
Vidda C1 pro is a brighter version with the Chinese OS that supports 3D but not DV. It will likely get an international release within the next 6 months. As far as keystone I would rank them: 1) jmgo 2) xgimi 3) hisense 4) formovie 5) nomvdic
@@TheHookUp Might go with the regular C1 then as I already have pitch black rooms to project in. Thanks for making this video on such a speedy timeframe! Rob, Black Friday will be upon us soon and I think I've finally narrowed down my choices for lifestyle projectors to the XGIMI Horizon and the Hisense C1. My lifestyle projection choice will be used for projecting on walls painted white or light grey , non glossy paint. I've observed from your comments that you recommend the JMGO as best for projecting on walls but I eliminated it based on its lack of Dolby Vision. This leaves me to chose between the XGIMI and Hisense . But you mentioned concerning issues with both. The contrast issue with XGIMI , and in a recent comment that you made to one of your subscribers, you did not recommend using the HIsense for projecting on walls being that its a triple laser. I will be using the projector in some rooms that will have low ambient light coming thru closed Venetian blinds in the daytime. The XGIMI might have a slight edge with 3Dmode and extra brightness, But primarily I want the best cinematic experience for DV on a projected wall. Ive been going back and forth but hopefully you will help me end this internal debate before Black Friday. Thanks!
@@stevem.2759 Given that I will probably be moving the projector around and displaying on walls in light controlled rooms or a matte white screen, Im leaning heavily toward the hisense although im giving up 3D. The 3D feature is really only a factor for watching old favorites since the studios barely produce new 3D content these days. If the Hisense had 3D it would be a slam dunk over every projector in the lifestyle category. If I have to choose, I value having Dolby Vision over 3D.
Thanks, you are amazing! Every video is flawless. Which projector would you pick: JMGO N1 Ultra (if you wouldn‘t care about laser speckle - I could get it for 1500€), Hisense C1 or C1 Pro (which would both cost me around 2000€)? Thanks in advance. Keep it up!
Hisense C1 Pro (China Version) doesn't support dolby vision, so I would choose the N1 Ultra over the C1 Pro. Between the N1 Ultra and C1 (global), it would just depend on your room and content. For a light controlled room watching mostly DV content, the C1 is the choice, for watching broadcast TV or sports in a brighter environment I'd choose the N1 Ultra.
I am so impressed about you break down of the features of these beautiful projectors. You really give us the main Insight of which projectors is good for your money. Thanks.
In all fairness I think there is an advantage of the P1000 that isn't being stressed enough. All of the triple laser projectors have laser speckle with non white screens. Since the P1000 is LED that should mean it can work with any screen without the chance of speckle. So you pair it with a really good ALR screen and it will more than hold it's own against the others. Just my two cents.
Wow appreciate the response. First time commenting on any of your videos. My buying decision isn't gonna be easy. I have an Epson 5030UB which there's so much I can buy that would be better than it but oh man the options it's almost overwhelming 😅
@@dustincallegan5207Sounds like you already know this, but there are not that many "bad" options. 4K projectors in this price range are all pretty great. Some fit better for one specific use case or another, and when you have them side by side it's easy to nit pick, but most people will be very happy with these projectors regardless of which one they choose.
Well there it is.. I'm sticking with my N1 Ultra after this video and after calibration this thing is incredible and hopefully will get some updates for Doby Vision since it uses a chip that's capable of so. Laser speckle doesn't happen if projecting on a wall or some screens. I have mine at 16.5 feet away on a off white wall of around 185 inches and it's so bright at night you litterally have to turn it down which helps lower the black floor but also lowers overall picture i have mine set at 7 during the day and 5 at night but it goes all the way to 10 which i never will use way to bright. The hisense Not having 3D and a higher 50ms input lag is not an issue for me but I'm sure for some it's a non starter as seen in the forums. I was on the fence for the BenQ 4550i but no more. Thanks so much for the review brother look forward to your Calibration settings and comparing them to Projector Centrals settings...
I have been following the JMGO since the kickstarter. I've been on their forums , with other users requesting the Dolby Vision firmware. The installed MediaTeck SoC chip has the capability to handle DV. I've heard a few desperate users currently using external processors like the HDFury to extract DV from streaming sources. The results may improve the image but the processing still converts to a rather static metadata configuration. If JMGO does THAT upgrade, I think It would be a game changer and a no brainer for the purchase decision. Good luck to us all.😁
@@brucesmith1754 That JMGO SoC is already being pushed to its max, zero chance it could handle DV on top of whatever they are doing with it. It lags just moving around Android 11 OS, and is choppy for 4K60 TH-cam playback.
@@TheHookUp Given that the installed SoC chip has, according to its specification, the capacity to process DV, would you think the N1 Ultra 4K could handle the processing of DV if used with an external streaming device instead of the embedded Android OS. I have also heard complaints about that OS throttling down the 4k streaming capabilities, but users report seeing improved performance when using an Apple/Firestick streaming device. Im really hoping for DV capabiltity in the JMGO.
You always do an amazing job, I just reviewed the Formovie X5 and I really like it but the Hisense C1 looks great, hey I know how much work it takes to make these videos, Great job.!!
Great review. Could you do a review of how they handle fast motion like soccer and boxing etc in the optimal memc setting. This is such an important factor for anyone like me who watches sport on a really big screen as it can look pretty dodgy at 150"!
Thanks for the detailed reviews 👍. I’m planning on picking the Hisense up in the near future. I have seen in other reviews the input lag on the c1 measured at around 39ms in game mode though.
Excellent presentation. I needed to catch up on state of the art. Done in one swell foop. Can't beat the C1. Least (handy but) useful was the audio test. At these price points the audio will likely come from another source. Built in sound is there because lacking that ability would be ridiculous on even the cheapest projector.
Hey projector monster guy =D Because of you I got one a formovie x5 and wow super happy with the image is better than my tv and I am using with my old matte white screen... so about projector screens for this projectors what would you recommend?
Just finished messing around with my X5 using the limited picture controls. I was able to get it REALLY close to calibrated with these settings: www.patreon.com/posts/89367680
Thx for this extremely detailed review !!!Can you detail why the 3D experience is diferent on the XGIMI rather than the JMGO. I tought that if the contrast and the global image quality was better, it would be enough to have a great 3D, but it doesn t seem to be the case according to your review...Why the 3D is not better with the JMGO? Thanks for your time and your answer !
3d is really hard to get right, lots of processing that needs to happen. The XGIMI is just perfectly smooth with no flashing, no choppiness, and no artifacting.
Been saving for hisense c1 (2000€), but now in Q2 NexiGo is releasing trivision ultra probably at same price range :O . Meaning hisense must drastically lower its price or Nexigo trivision ultra is obvious choice. What do you think?
Hi, love the videos, as others say the details and visuals you prapare are amazing for anyone stuck in indecisive mode lol❤ BUT I must ask: do you plan on reviewing dangbei mars pro 2 any time soon? I'd love to see the comparison with hisense c1 especially
Seeing all the other reviews, you might think the Xgimi Ultra is by far the best... 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks for spending your time to give us reality, which seems to be too much wanted these days!
could we have a video that compares some of the winners of this video and your best UST video? I'm looking for projector for a room with some ambient light and I am just losing my mind going between back and forth between your videos haha
It doesn't make sense to test them at 50% audio level, as the curves can be different. You either compare them at max volume or you compare the quality at a fixed sound level (and move the levels to reach that level)
The Volume rating was done at 100% volume. The bass/mid/treble ratings were done at 50%. I agree it would have probably been better to do those at a normalized db.
Thank you very much for this review. Since you also tested the BenQ HT4550i, I'm very interested in your opinion on it. Is the picture quality from the XGIMI Horizon Ultra with Dolby Vision significantly better than with the BenQ HT4550i? Which one would you prefer? I understand that the price is almost double, but I'm looking for a long-term investment.
I would prefer the HT4550i given the choice of those two, but it is twice the price of the Horizon Ultra. In a light controlled room I would choose the Hisense C1 over both of them.
Seems I will have to wait a bit longer for a sub 2000 dollar 4k 3d projector with good blacks, contrast, and color accuracy. But thanks for the great review.
Hi Rob, addicted to your reviews man. Can you please answer me on this, this will help me a lot. I bought Hisense C1S the Chinese version of Hisense C1, because it has 3D. But I didn’t know that it doesn’t support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. I want to know, is there a big difference between those formats keeping the picture quality of this projector in mind or a negligible difference? Thanks in Advance 🙏🏻
Amazing! Thank you so much 👍 Do you have any opinion of the Customer Service between Xgimi and Hisence? How’s the compatibility with Apple? Can the size of the screen by adjusted manually?
@@pantojachavarriadavid2766 To my knowledge it is not possible to increase contrast ratio via a software update.
Hi Rob, great review. Do you know if the 18.3ms Input Lag is still achievable when keystone correction is used? Thanks
@Ginnerhur No, game modes are with no keystone
This is one of the most impressive projector reviews I have seen. Your detail, explanations, and thoroughness make choosing a quality projector a lot eaiser. Exceptionally well done! Thank you!
Nah man now it’s hard, I gotta figure out what’s important for my needs instead of a paid TH-camr just telling me which one I should buy
This is beyond a review. This is quality research that should be published in a journal! Amazing job.
I cannot imagine the amount of time you have put into just this video alone! There are so many facets to this subject that it's easy to go down the rabbit hole in any one of them and spend a crazy amount of time uncovering data and nuances.
Thank you for providing such valuable content!
Seriously!!! 😂😂😂
He is Paid to make these videos.
Nothing he is doing I would consider Working.
His conclusions are laughable. You watched a paid advertisement.
@@JesusSavesSinners Sounds like someone has buyer's remorse and it's too late to return it 😢
Rob,
First off, thanks so much for the time and diligence that you put into your reviews. You literally covered every aspect of these lifestyle projectors
that I was looking for in a review. You must spend quite some time practicing your presentation to give the volume of information within less than a halfhours time.
A couple of days ago , You promised review today and delivered. Always overachieving on the presentation. OUTSTANDING review. Thanks Bud!!
You're projector reviews are hands down the best on this entire platform. I can't express how much these help with buying decisions.
Thank you!
TLDR: Hisense C1 = the best
TLDW :) haha
This is the best channel for projector reviews. It helped me to choose a Hisense C1. Thank you!
I have bought the hisense C1 thanks to your video. thank you for this content, it is so nice.
I am very happy of my purchase
All of those projectors will be included. October 13th is the planned release date.
This is the kind reviews i want to see, the non paid ones for their usefulness. Thank you. Now it all reduces to availability/price to my region.
I just cant believe that I can watch your videos for free, feels illegal. Hands down the best reviews on projectors possible on this platform
@@francismedina4547. How does it compare to your old 5050?
I returned my Dangbei Mars Pro to get the Xgimi HORIZON Ultra, and I am regretting it. The image clarity and brightness does not compare.
@@D_H_F That sucks. Man, I’ve been eyeing the ultra up but it seems like it’s not that good. Seems like the c1 is the one to get
@@ryaneckel5601 I don't think any of these projectors are a bad option except maybe the laser speckle issue, that's just not a problem I want to work with.
even in his videos, they are so close that it would come down to features and prices.

I saw a lot of questionable reviews from people who did not take any measurements.

I figure most who never tried projectors will still be impressed but yeah. If you make a review, you have to compare to other projectors in its class
No better channel on TH-cam for product comparisons
First of all, thank you for this test which must have taken a lot of time.
I find that the two best projectors in this test are the Hisense C1 and the Xgimi Horizon Ultra.
- The C1 has the best contrast so better black colors and better sharpness, brighter and integrated Netflix
- Horizon Ultra has much fairer colors, better sound, better latency, optical zoom, 3D and quieter, integrated Netflix (limited to HD)
For daily use for all areas, they are the best, and when it comes to design, everyone will have their own opinion.
The Hisense audio is also very good. I would have no issue using it without external speakers.
Low gain screens will reduce both the max luminance and the black floor.
Now THAT'S what I call a review. Other reviewers just do commercials. Wonderful job. Subscribed. 😊
Where was this channel my whole life. Amazing reviews brother. You are costing me 2k dollar. Hicense here I go!
Great job with these awesome reviews and comparisons. You were great as usual. Doing all this at your house by yourself it seems. 👍🏼
Just bought hisense c1 and waiting for delivery! Great review
Have you got ur projector?😊
Would be interesting to compare those to “real” home theater projectors (sony, jvc..). Maybe even to higher ends like the NZ7.
100" in a medium living room is very important for the whole family 😊
Nut now, these laser ones looks to be in the ball park so I guess I have to read up on how close the come (do they surpass my 10 year old TW3200 in accuracy and black levels?).
Extremely helpful for this newbie projector guy. I'm looking at the Hisense C1. I'm not a big gamer so this will be perfect for me.
Superb video. I really appreciate your thoroughness and no nonsense approach.
Saw a deal for the Hisense, almost bought it but held off after watching your review. It would have worked fine, but thanks to how in depth you get , there would have been some issues in the long run that thankfully were avoided after watching this comparison. Excellent work, subscribed!
What issues would you have run into? Have had the C1 for a few weeks and love it.
I needed a projector with less lag. The C1 would have been ok for casual gaming, but I am a little more on the competitive side of things. @@hjahja
@@mixmasterp2k3 the C1 has a game mode that is not covered in the video I am surprised. it comes down to 39 ms what is fine for casual gaming

I bought the Hisense C1S(China version) for only US$1,000 few months ago. Global version is so expensive😮. And I’m now using the C1 pro which is 50% brighter than C1S, highly recommended.
What's the difference between C1 Pro and C1 Global?
There are C1 air (¥5000) / C1 (¥6000)/ C1S (¥7000) / C1 Pro(¥9500) in China market. The major difference between C1 Pro and C1S(or global version C1) should be brightness (+50%) and contrast radio up to 2900 : 1. But without Dolby Vision and has different OS.
Ok so C1 Pro is brighter than C1 Global? But C1 Pro lacks dolby vision support, even from an external device like an Apple TV? @@teric7810
Most important thing for me is 3D support! Thank you so much for continuing to cover it. So important!!
An excellent, evidence based, comparative review. Thank you so much! I'd buy the Hisense C1 if it had optical zoom.
Wait for the C2 Ultra.
i have been anxiously waiting for you to review the ultra..proably what is top of my list...
I am always so impressed with your reviews. Amazing job!
Would you recommend the JMGO Ultra at present?
@@wahidemran833 I would. But I lack the comparison to most of the other projectors in this video. I only have the Horizon Ultra which is also quite good but not as bright and versatile and a bit louder regarding fan noise.

That's pretty strange! I haven't heard any other reports of that, so for it to happen to you twice is crazy.
I bought the Dangbei last year based on @TheHookUp side by side review. Using it in place of a TV for a year. No issues
@@TungNguyenThanh-fd3hy yep
Do you know if it´s possible to install the Hisense C1 Firmware (OS) with dolby vision on the Vidda C1S?
@@Serujiro i answered your question on my channel 👊🏻🙌🏻
One among the best review that I have come across on the comparison of projectors. It was impressive to see all the important distinction between projectors are clearly emphasized. Great work. Thank you for doing this.
Just order c1 after watching this. Thanks
We've been waiting for this! Your projector reviews are the best 🎉
I could listen to this guy review projectors for hours.
I returned my Dangbei Mars Pro to get the Xgimi HORIZON Ultra, and I am regretting it. The image clarity and brightness does not compare.
My God. This is so detailed! I was planning for the Horizon but after this? I going hisense. Thanks a lot for this insane review!
Great video again, Rob! I'm going to put the C1 head to head against the LS11000 next week, what a strange comparison. The Epson lens adjustment is a huge plus for my space but it really looks like the C1 is a compelling package for a fraction of the cost, so it may win out if I can figure out placement.
Comment your result plz!
SO? what about the result ? Did you test the LS1000 vs the C1 ? Thank you.
Oh yes, update please, very interested
Any update on this? I’m even just considering the 4010 over the c1. Lack of brightness and no optical zoom are making it a hard sell.
Just wanting the best quality for the price because I spend a lot of time in there
My gut tells me you will be absolutely blown away by the C1 compared to your Sony.
@@TheHookUp thanks I’ll go ahead order one!
There's always variations in picture with default settings, however I find most settings can make the picture good again unless it's way off to begin with, like contrast, brightness, color temp....It's always nice to have a good pix with default settings, but screen, wall, ambient light is variable.
While you’re right about playing around with settings
The problem is that a projector that already had bad contrast ratio is still going to be not so good even after the adjustments
If that was the case nobody would be buying the ultra expensive stuff
Just buy the cheap stuff and make it look like the expensive stuff
Yeah yeah yeah, the best reviewer bro
I only guess that IS missing a side by side comparison tween c1 and X5, that Would be the Winner and Second Winner 😒
Thanks for your content and your answer!
Hisense Vidda C1 pro
Thank you for adding 3D to the actually tested portion of review! Keep up great work
Fantastic video as always. Hopefully I like it but if not, Ill return it. Thank you for the great content. I know these have to take a lot of work.
The 4550i is a gaming powerhouse. If that is even a small concern of yours you should stick with the BENQ.
@@TheHookUp Thank you for that. I appreciate all the amazing videos and help. Not just for buying help my I always enjoying seeing new products and how they perform. Great video and content as always
@guiltynessness8926 Yes the HT4550I is an amazing projector, BenQ did a great job, I love mine.!
As far as keystone I would rank them:
1) jmgo
2) xgimi
3) hisense
4) formovie
5) nomvdic
@@TheHookUp Would you suspect that a brighter version of the c1 likely means worse black levels?
Very likely, yes.
@@TheHookUp Might go with the regular C1 then as I already have pitch black rooms to project in. Thanks for making this video on such a speedy timeframe! I don't know how you can afford buying these projectors for reviews (or whether the projector companies bend to your will when you ask them for their product) but you're doing god's work for us normal peeps.
Best comparisons on youtube, please continue review new projectors ! love your work.
You make the best projector reviews!!! I ended up getting the Formovie X5 and it's been great. :)
Love the X5, definitely putting it back up on the bedroom ceiling mount today!
Just finished messing around with my X5 using the limited picture controls. I was able to get it REALLY close to calibrated with these settings: www.patreon.com/posts/89367680
Rob,
Black Friday will be upon us soon and I think I've finally narrowed down my choices for lifestyle projectors to the XGIMI Horizon and the Hisense C1.
My lifestyle projection choice will be used for projecting on walls painted white or light grey , non glossy paint. I've observed from your comments that you recommend the JMGO
as best for projecting on walls but I eliminated it based on its lack of Dolby Vision. This leaves me to chose between the XGIMI and Hisense . But you mentioned concerning
issues with both. The contrast issue with XGIMI , and in a recent comment that you made to one of your subscribers, you did not recommend using the HIsense for projecting
on walls being that its a triple laser. Thanks!
Exactly the same over here! What’s going to be your choice?
@@stevem.2759 Given that I will probably be moving the projector around and displaying on walls in light controlled rooms or a matte white screen, Im leaning heavily toward the hisense although im giving up 3D. The 3D feature is really only a factor for watching old favorites since the studios barely produce new 3D content these days. If the Hisense had 3D it would be a slam dunk over every projector in the lifestyle category. If I have to choose, I value having Dolby Vision over 3D.
Thanks, you are amazing! Every video is flawless.
Which projector would you pick:
JMGO N1 Ultra (if you wouldn‘t care about laser speckle - I could get it for 1500€), Hisense C1 or C1 Pro (which would both cost me around 2000€)?
Thanks in advance. Keep it up!
Hisense C1 Pro (China Version) doesn't support dolby vision, so I would choose the N1 Ultra over the C1 Pro. Between the N1 Ultra and C1 (global), it would just depend on your room and content. For a light controlled room watching mostly DV content, the C1 is the choice, for watching broadcast TV or sports in a brighter environment I'd choose the N1 Ultra.
Thanks for this... I was going to buy the xgimi but contrast is a deal breaker for me. Back to the drawing board.
I returned my Dangbei Mars Pro to get the Xgimi HORIZON Ultra, and I am regretting it. The image clarity and brightness does not compare.
I am so impressed about you break down of the features of these beautiful projectors. You really give us the main Insight of which projectors is good for your money. Thanks.
Such a great review. I really like the head to head video portion !
Single laser (formovie x5) and hybrid (xgimi horizon ultra) also have zero laser speckle and can be used with any screen.
Working on getting the calibration values up as we speak.
@@TheHookUp That is an awesome addition to your already outstanding content. Thanks!
Thank you for the in-depth, honest review Rob!
Everyday entering on your channel waiting for this review! Tanks
My guy here is to projectors as what hdtv test is to TV displays 😁🙌
Love you ultra detailed reviews
great content! always refreshing to see unbiased reviews that we see in the bigger channels
Hisense seems the best. However. The 3D features like the Xgimi projector should be implemented into the Hisense one.
This. This is what a "review" and "comparison" video should be benchmarked as. Thanks for the super informative and helpful video!
Thanks. Trying to raise the bar and include the most data without getting overwhelming.
Wow, Dolby vision made a significant difference when compared to HDR, picture had much more details.
I don’t think I can ever go back to a non DV certified projector.
You always do an amazing job, I just reviewed the Formovie X5 and I really like it but the Hisense C1 looks great, hey I know how much work it takes to make these videos, Great job.!!
I am 10 minutes in, just straight up facts, no begging to ring the bell, sweet to see youtube still has content like this ❤
Great review. Could you do a review of how they handle fast motion like soccer and boxing etc in the optimal memc setting. This is such an important factor for anyone like me who watches sport on a really big screen as it can look pretty dodgy at 150"!
MEMC was good on all of them except the NOMVDIC P1000 (which doesn't have MEMC at all).
Awesome Review! I have an ALR grey screen with 1,35 gain. Would you recommend the C1 or Xgimi Ultra?
Amazingly detailed round up as usual. thanks!
This video is gold, thanks a lot for the comparison, i almost made the wrong purchase
Thanks for the detailed reviews 👍. I’m planning on picking the Hisense up in the near future. I have seen in other reviews the input lag on the c1 measured at around 39ms in game mode though.
It creeps. When you first start game mode it is around 39ms, but after 5-6 minutes it settles around 50-55ms.
@@TheHookUp ahh I see, that’s a bit of an odd one. Well spotted!
Amazing review and a great job! Thanks a lot for doing such an extensive test!
Hey projector monster guy =D Because of you I got one a formovie x5 and wow super happy with the image is better than my tv and I am using with my old matte white screen... so about projector screens for this projectors what would you recommend?

@@TheHookUp Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!:))
hello the hook up thx for this awesome review again, hope you cant get your hand on the LG HU710PW one day to compare .
Seeing all the other reviews, you might think the Xgimi Ultra is by far the best... 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks for spending your time to give us reality, which seems to be too much wanted these days!
could we have a video that compares some of the winners of this video and your best UST video? I'm looking for projector for a room with some ambient light and I am just losing my mind going between back and forth between your videos haha
USTs are always better in rooms with ambient light because they can be used with ambient light rejecting screens.
@@TheHookUp oh I see thanks! Great work all around!
I've seen the AWOL LTV-2500 go on sale for under $2k this year... ...and it's not even black Friday yet. 😆
Thanks for another great review. This is my go to channel for specs.
Amazing! Thank you so much 👍 Do you have any opinion of the Customer Service between Xgimi and Hisence? How’s the compatibility with Apple? Can the size of the screen by adjusted manually?
