      From an electrical background, I'll give it a B. Label wrong direction @14:14, labels upside down to the viewer 14:19, no labels on conductors @15:48, some labels not heat shrinked and not well bundled in areas. Nothing that can't be remedied. OCD for electrical panel wiring. 👏 Thanks for sharing.

      @@nooneanybodyknows7912 Just to be devils advocate here ... Was the man not working in the electrical box as he was being interviewed so would you not expect incomplete work? Do you think maybe you are being a little harsh this early on and maybe you could give him the benefit of the doubt? But your observations are fantastic and your attention to detail is admirable, I think I'd be happy to have you survey my electrical installations!!

      @Bob Gabbett yes, I agree that it may not be complete. I believe he is above the pay grade of actually doing the hands-on wiring in his position. And, he possibly observed and noted the discrepancies that drew my attention. That's the reason I said it isn't anything that can't be remedied. 😁

Sail shape, rigging choices, where the centers of the various forces and mass interplay... • @SeanBlader
    @SeanBlader ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I appreciate that he says stuff isn't going to fail. The crazy part about Carbon Fiber itself is that it doesn't degrade in UV exposure, so it's absolutely permanent. Now the epoxy resin can breakdown over time in UV, but when you use the absolute minimum of it, there's not much of it to break down, and then if you paint it, you've got something that's not going to fail pretty much ever, as long as you aren't abrading it down with a line thousands of times.

    • @berndog3
      @berndog3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, but don't forget that CRP, just like GRP, is a two part system. The carbon provides the strength in tension and the epoxy provides the strength in compression. You need both.

    • @voongnz
      @voongnz ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yep, and vacuum infusion is one of the best ways to get the best fiber/resin ratio for the best strength and weight. A protective coating is a must and a UV resistant clear top coat isn't enough, especially in a marine environment and it's exterior, it will get brittle over time. Paint or vinyl wrap are great protective layers.

All your practical knowledge of open ocean sailing and living aboard makes these excellent videos next level in both form and content. Your commitment to a clean energy and small environmental footprint makes this "partnership" with HH special. It's hard to say which aspect of the build process is most interesting because it's all interesting to me. I'm good with a long deep dives into the tech and boat engineering as well as discussion around the aesthetics and ergonomics of the designs.
    I was impressed with your "performance catamaran" priority for the very practical reasons you stated as to why you chose the HH boat. The environmental friendliness of the HH is just icing on the cake. Keep this wonderful content coming and feel confident that what interests you will most likely be what interests your patrons.

    Just an FYI, there is a predicted SUPER EL NENO for the summer and beyond. This will create extreme weather in the Pacific. Watch the weather closely prior to travel north and south of the equator worldwide. Clear skies and favorable winds Mike

    You said you wanted suggestions on what content to bring to all of us fans, well can you go into some depth on your choice of sails and the rigging. Also you were going to go into depth on the eco drive and the engines. And what dingy did you guys settle on, and has it arrived yet? Just a few suggestions. Thanks. And of course the progress of the build. Is it just me or when you guys were showing the boat, it looks really big. Thanks.

    That Color is absolutely stunning. My favorite. I was wondering if you can do a video of how you decided what the interior decor will look like and of you were able to have input on that. Thanks for the great videos 😊

    I wonder if HH supports their engineers in going on sailing trips. Not just their own boats, but also charted boats from other manufacturers, just to get exposure and experience with different boats at sea. I think having some hands on experience with sailing will help them make good decisions and suggestions.

    You asked what you could expand on in future videos. Here you go. What is the detailed process for buying an HH? dive deep into costs. I mean real dollars. Insurance cost, where to register the boat for maximum savings, etc. We are two years from buying a live a board and love watching your educational and adventure type videos.

      Added to the list! In the meantime, if you head over to the sailing page of the blog, click on the expenses tab for lots of useful info. The cost of all the registration, etc. for Curiosity, a whole vid on how to get better deals on insurance, and lots more. There's also a Sailboat Shopping tab that you may find useful. Better get busy! www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailing 😁

    Are there changes you’ll make to your boat after visiting the factory, seeing what’s there, etc? Or will the boat be exactly the same as it would have been without you visiting?

  • @Tomm9y
    @Tomm9y ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had no idea that a boat manufactuer was achieving such high standards in systems installation. Now if only more manufactuers could do the same in simpler smaller boats, I think there would tidal wave of affirmation. Boats need reliable systems which can be easily maintianed and upgraded. Lovely how you bring out so much from the staff in the yard and capture great shots of boat detail.

    I would be interested in their waste management. What do they do with leftover scrap pieces, etc.

    • @voongnz
      @voongnz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep, I have no doubt the carbon fiber weave off cuts are sold on (or maybe reused) as chopped tow. That is good stuff for compression moulded CF components or for making aesthetic "forged carbon" top layers. The other consumable stuff like vacuum bags, peel ply, breather plys etc for sure are going into the bin. I'd like to know too tho, maybe it's not worth their time to keep scraps.

    Love the videos. I had a thought at the end. They had to build the “big pool”. What thinking went in to that? Designing the ramp, the sides, the depth, the gates… One can’t just build the boat, you have to build the environement.
