Deadliest Roads - Ghana: • Video
In Senegal, every year during the rainy season, entire regions are covered in water- cities included, provoking an exodus towards Casamance. The journey passes through Gambia, a small isolated country, through which a river under the same name flows. This river serves as a barrier in the middle of Senegal, where the exploitation of travellers is the locals’ main source of income. In this new Dicing with Death, we follow the struggle of seasoned exiles along roads that have now become sludge tracks as a result of the rain. We follow the lives of women in the paddy fields and their back-breaking work, as well as climbing aboard wooden dugouts with fishermen who brave the perilous oceans for a poverty wage. Staying afloat for many in these regions is a daily struggle.

As you may have noticed, I like to accompany our docs with an introduction filled with interesting facts and figures about the respective country. Me specially like knowing where it’s located, the languages spoken and some typical and awesome tidbits.
1. Senegal 🇸🇳 is a country on the West African Coast. Senegal's economic and political capital is Dakar. Yeah, that Dakar of the Paris-Dakar rally fame which it hosted from 1979 - 2007
2. The official language is French. It was a French colony and gained independent April 4, 1960.
3. Currently, Senegal has a quasi-democratic political culture, one of the more successful post-colonial democratic transitions in Africa.
4. In the summer between july and august - rainfall? More like multiple daily downpours. That affects traffic and the roads. (Heck, you ever been in LA during a downpour, the streets flood and the gutters overflow.) However, climate change has led to a consistent decline in rainfall and projected increase in temperatures. Impacts of climate change and other environmental concerns are expected to greatly impact the economy and population. A phenomenon pervasive amongst the poorest nations unfortunately.
5. You know you are in Senegal when you find goats and sheep walking through houses and markets. These friendly animals have a spiritual significance in the country. During the holiday of Tabaski, families sacrifice a male sheep as an offering for God in exchange for spiritual fulfillment. In addition to that, many taxi drivers will have the tail of a sheep hanging from their taxi’s rear as a means of good luck.
6. The Cape Verde islands lie some 560 kilometres (350 mi) off the Senegalese coast (A fun fact I find interesting because I always forget where they are. Now I’ll remember the two together: Senegal and Cape Verde 🇨🇻 Islands
7. Senegal's environmental issues are familiar and plague pretty much most countries on the continent: diminishing wildlife populations which are threatened by poaching, deforestation, overergrazing, soil erosion, desertification, and overfishing
8. Senegal also has one of the best developed tourist industries in Africa.
9. Peanuts and fish. Because Senegal borders the Atlantic Ocean, fish is very important. And Peanuts. Those are the two most important exports.
10. Wrestling. Although soccer is perceived as the national sport of Senegal, the grand sport of them all is wrestling. When a major fight is held in Senegal, over 70,000 spectators flood stadiums to cheer on their favorite wrestler. In January of 2019, wrestlers Modou Lo and Balla Gaye had the “fight of the century” at Dakar’s Senghor stadium.
11. Mark your calendars and consider attending: Senegal will be the first African country to host the Youth Olympic games in 2022.

Very good documentary, and quite accurate. The main problem in our country when it comes to transportation has to do with the fact that most of the good/new roads built in the last couple of decades are located in the major cities. The roads are overcrowded due to the plethora of cars, and the fact that with neighbor country Mali not having a port, most of their goods have to pass through Dakar's port and transported via trucks to Mali. There used to be railways that helped with this but the government let it die, sadly.
Another good example of a mistake many African countries are making, which is to focus most of the work on new/better infrastructures on their capitals and few major cities.
here in Argentina, we got corrupts politics and let abandone the railways, put we are join in ONG for take care of , the better is make little trains and let people use it like Russians villages or ecuatorians too,
Here in Mexico the truckers situation is very similar, corruption, roads in a very poor state, insecurity (robberies, kidnapings, murders) tolls everywhere and more expensive every day, etc

Water logging, drainage etc may be developed better but we must not forget that the lush green forests, drinking water etc are the blessings of nature.

This is more than dangerous roads. Throughout the 50 minutes, you have taken us to different parts of the country and showed us the situation on the ground as it is without fear. We may never know how mountainous of a task it is to make this documentaries but one thing is for sure, it is worth of. ❤️

@@1wun1 North Africa is better off because France does not exploit those countries. Sub- Saharan African countries gained political independence from France but not economic independence. France takes 80% of each country's annual income and invests it in France as it's own income. If these Sub-Saharan countries want access to their stolen money they have to apply for a loan and pay commissions and interest if approved and yet it's their own money. France's military is stationed in virtually all of it's former African colonies as a way of letting them know who is in charge and if any president from these countries tries to change the status quo he ends up being assassinated by France. North Africans have a symbiotic relationship with France. Now do you see why former African French colonies are very poor?

Man how do they keep these antiques running. That kind of torture on a vehicle won't tolerate it for long, especially when you boil an engine and warp the whole engine or burn valves out. At work our roads aren't anywhere near as rough as that and we still break springs, blow up difs, crack chassis, burn out clutches and eventually cook engines because of mud in radiators blocking airflow. It's an amazing doco, I watched 2 of them one after the other in amazement. Good job lads for bringing this to us.

I just came back from Senegal for some work on the eastern corner on the border region near Mali and Guinea. The place is so wild and exhilarating. We even hit riots in Dakar that caused us to miss our flight. Saw people throwing fire bottles onto the road, and the police firing teargas! Crazy experience! All that consider led, Senegal had some of the friendliest, and most welcoming people I've ever met.
Sounds like parts of the US when ungrateful people get offended. Shame they don't realize how good they have it. Exhilarating means like gladdening or refreshingly thrilling.
I have a friend living in Yoff, senegal and He took me on one of those fisher boats for the day. I’ve never been so tired in my life ever. You cant imagine how hard that work is, its unreal
I find these documentaries very interesting and educational. They make me appreciate where I live in the west Indies more. I always feel sorry for people that have to struggle so hard to survive.

It looked like the head gasket is blown. You could see combustion pressure coming out of the radiator!
When you are pouring water in a hot engine, you want it to keep circulating. It lessens the risk of the engine block cracking.
According to the local mechanics here in Kenya, the motor has to be running to ensure that the hot pipes and the radiator do not burst/crack as soon as cold water is added...how this is true, not sure of!!!
