I’m Māori, I know we have our traditions but I feel a great sense if pride to know that all our cousins around the pacific have the same culture when it comes to our history. Written into our skin 🥺
I don't cry that easily. but when I saw the daughter dancing, With her Malu freshly done, and her mother cheering, showing that huge smile and the proudness she displayed while dancing. It got me crying for a good 5 minutes!! What a beautiful culture!! Thank you for giving me peace.
As a Tongan, props to them for still keeping the culture strong, especially with all the colonisation crap. I’m proud that Tonga was never colonised, but still sad we couldn’t keep our tattoo traditions as strong as it is in Samoa.

No Tonga was in 1900 but in 1970 Tonga was not colonised since that day until now ,so for all of you ,I am a half samoan and tongan ,I know tonga history also Samoa...So please understand Tonga is not colonised...
So true now days there just getting it and not even knowing the culture or even speaking it, what happen it was so sacred and now everybody is getting it.
@@teasatele7799 just because you cant speak samoan doesn't mean you shouldn't get it. If you are a "Samoan" and you are ready then nothing should stop you. @@lotuuti1155 I disagree, I believe all samoan males who are willing to serve their aiga with nothing but unconditional hard work and love. Should experience the malofie journey. It is part of our culture it is who we are. Why say something like that. When we should embrace our Pacific women and men on getting their tatau.

This is so beautiful went to see it in Auckland at the q theatre in June last year. In January of last year I got my Malu done by suluape Peter in Samoa last year it was a very emotional spiritual experience I wanted to get it where the tatau was born in our mother land. Loved this doco strongly recommend it's a great watch Samoa mo samoa.
She was a real Queen of our time. Power with elegance, class and kindness. Made a real difference to her people. Deserves to be remembered and for her example to be admired and followed. R.I.P 💔🌴💚
Wow my beautiful village of Safotu in Savaii, the first village where Taema and Tilafaiga arrived with the tools of tattoing but the high chief Lavea was asleep so they left and continue on with their journey. Love our tatau/malu. Uncle Seualuga Tupe drinking his ava at 8:16.

Siamese twins named Taema and Tilafaiga they bought the tatau from Fiti . Fiti referred to in the song is actually Fitiuta , which is a town on Ta'u, one of the Manu'a island in what we now know as Am Samoa and that is the gift of culture lol samoa all day cheeehoo
*in their journey, its said that they left Fiji singing a song about the Tatau being done on the woman, but before arriving to Samoa the song had changed to be done on the Man.. In Fiji the tufuga there are woman
@@thedonfonz2481 no that's not what our Tufugas are saying that's just yous mixing up the story due to a Samoan song, Fitiuta in Manu'a islands is also the home Tagaloalagi the Polynesian God.
We have a history of Samoan women taking the tattoo out of an island in North called Kia . Fijian women are tattooed on thighs, mouth, cheeks and around private areas . So please stop Confusing yourself and ignore the truth by your ancestors
We do not want to debate what you know is right about Samoan tatau..it's just that the chants is self explanatory in that 2 woman who swam and presented the tatau as gifts is everything that exists in Fiji😅😅..we have the 2 Goddesses we know "Yalewa rua"..we have the tattoo that we're mainly practiced by women and the northern part of Fiji..we will never contradict the poems and songs left by our Fijian ancestors..
Appreciation to the SuluApe' family for helping the revival of traditional filipino tattoos. A lot of the designs are the same or similar. They have found in the history books. The Boxer Codex has a lot of information of pre colonized Philippines, in the spaniards first encounters they were called the Pintados(the painted ones) tatau has a long tradition and history across the pacific and South East Asia. What's sad is the colonizers had a majority of the islanders lose their traditions and history. Some Nations were better and able to keep some of those traditions, but some still lost in time.

Probably those who aren't that fond of tattooing itself. I could be wrong.
