    In this episode of The Wide Awake Podcast, I interview Zephany Nurse, also known as Miché Solomon, whose extraordinary story will leave you speechless. Zephany was abducted from Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town when she was just two days old in 1997. For roughly 17 years, she was raised by a woman named Lavona Solomon, who kidnapped her, while her real parents searched tirelessly for her.
    As Zephany grew older, rumours started circulating at school about a younger girl who looked just like her. This led to an unexpected meeting between Zephany and the girl, who turned out to be her biological sister. This revelation set off a series of events, including an investigation, a court case, and a dramatic family reunion.
    In this conversation, Zephany opens up about her harrowing journey, the trauma of being raised by a kidnapper, the emotional rollercoaster of discovering her true identity, and the legal battle that followed. She also shares insights from her book, which chronicles her life story in incredible detail. Tune in for this gripping and emotional episode.

      Definitely. It’s such a mind f of a situation. Especially in the cases where the kidnapped child shuns the biological parent in favor of the kidnapper. I’m glad she seems to be very grounded about it all. I can imagine her biological parents, it might be hard for them that she’s so empathetic. It’s just so messed up for everyone. Her father who raised her unwittingly, of course herself but also her bio parents and her sister. I mean, it had to be hard on them all. I can imagine her sister probably has dealt with a range of emotions also.

      It would be like meeting a family in a mall at 14 and going home to live with them. Except for her sister, they were complete strangers with different habits, lifestyles, and everything. Even older children that are abducted and are found a decade later, they don’t fit in, in either family any longer. I remember one boy (abducted by a man) found and he was in his teens when found and was not fitting in with his ‘real’ family. So sad. There was another story of a boy found that even later became a cop and then died in a crash. Some people have such tragedies in their lives. 💔

    What a disastrous human catastrophe! Zephany's psychological insights are quite remarkable - an indication of the sound quality of her early child raising, all to be thrown into utter human chaos and tragedy. Zephany's story is a heartfelt testimony to human resilience. The irony and reality is that her formative years were based on genuine love and caring by a mother who performed a criminal act to have a child, and a father who was unaware of the reality. An extremely well conducted and presented interview.

    1. Of all the babies in the hospital Levona chooses a baby whose parents live some streets away from her and raises the child in the same area. They probably crossed paths every day travelling to work and shops. Close, but hidden.
    2. The baby’s name Zephany which means according to the interview “ one who is hidden” like she was.
    3. The school she attends is in the next neighbourhood but coincidentally her sister attends the same school instead of the local one in their area.

      @@ValenciaValentin-t2nas much as I want to say the same also out of emotion instead; her actions were evil and she shouldn’t have stolen a baby from the hospital. It’s really easy to say she’s evil if she showed no emotion, and if there wasn’t a reason why she did what she did similar to the one gave. Seems like a broken mom who lost too many babies unborn and lost alive that she got so desperate she decided to steal a baby to fill that void. (Not that justifies her taking the baby.) if only people like the kidnapper here decided to adopt a baby, got a baby from a mom who didn’t want the baby and wanted to give the baby to her.

    • @ZaZa-fw8ve
      @ZaZa-fw8ve หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hannaholson3172She stole the baby cause her husband threatened to leave her,not because she had this void & wanted a child badly, she did all this for a MAN!!! As a South-African myself it would've been easy for her to just adopt/foster a child. This lady does have a child from a previous relationship so all of this was just to keep her much younger husband.

    This is my first time hearing about this. This story is painful but at the same time beautiful to see how beautiful her upbringing was being raised by her abductor. I was busting in tears through out this interview. It’s the kind of tale that breaks your heart and yet makes you feel something profound at the same time. It’s like a sad song that you can’t help but love.
    I think the mother that raised her is not a bad person by the way that she describe her, but she was very desparate because of the miscarriages and end up making a bad choice by kidnapping a child. At the same time she was very selfish for not even think of how the biological parents would live after what she did.

Now she is an adult and has a clear understanding of what happened it is fantastic that she is so wise and using her experience to help others. She has found her purpose and faith. What a wonderful story, I wish her the very best in her life. To her bio parents: I would ask for peace and joy. For the father that supported her through the first 17 years you have done a great job and may God Bless you. If there was more care for women who have miscarriages this might not have happened.
