I’m hoping “joyboy” is more of a checklist than a destiny for luffy. Has gum gun fruit, check! Has advanced conquerers haki, check! Get 67 clubs to the head, check!
@@duggme Yeah but i still think just ''destiny'' is simplyfying it to much, the last Joyboy in his own words failed, wich imply you can be destined to be Joyboy, but not to succeed, and i think that makes it a lot more interresting to see Luffy Succed were the last one failed if that makes any sense.
I believe "Joyboy" had the devil fruit in its awakened state, so Zunesha sensed the awakening Luffy had and called him Joyboy. I don't think it's Luffy being possessed or anything, just that he now holds the same ability as Joyboy did.
Yeah, came here for this comment! Also I saw a guy proposing the following: the joyboy title is bestowed upon those who, in the face of increasingly desperate situations, continue to laugh more and more, never giving up on the possibility to liberate the world and its people. That would make sense for why the sky island's people saw him as that, seeing as he liberated their land from a tyrant. Also, I mainly agree with your idea, there's just a couple of other things that make so much more sense to me than a reincarnation situation. I don't understand how one piece readers still try to use normal logic to predict what Oda is planning, the man writes in 10 dimensions and "obvious" predictions are wrong 99% of the time in this manga. No shade to anyone, but people should chill a bit more hahahahaha.
@@oguzer7 i mean, it is oda. He might pull something unexpected like, usopp is actually the joyboy as he plays the drum in the skypeia (oda's second or third favourite part) and joyboy in west African mythology is a god of music playing a drum.
So the D stands for Drum? Those that die smile as they hear the drums of liberation, marking the fact that they’ve played their part. Just one beat in a score of never ending music.
I'm pretty sure The will of D. Stands for the will of Dawn Coz like, it may mean that people with the letter D. In their names bring about a new Dawn to the world, whether bad or good.
One interesting thing I noticed recently, is Kaido's face, he always has what looks like an upside down smile ( not a frown, but like intentionally a smile but flipped) which might show his twisted idea of what joyboy is or should be.
If the return of Joyboy is something triggered by death or near death, then Kaido was pursuing becoming Joyboy by trying to get himself killed this whole time. Maybe more strangely, the World Government would have basically just intentionally issued orders to turn Luffy into Joyboy. Assuming that's how it works anyway.
It would be very strange that the Gorosei are not privy to that but then again...when they talked about that "certain devil fruit" they didn't all seem to be %100 informed on the nature of said fruit. If it is possible Kaido was privy to information so Taboo the gorosei don't fully understand it. That would be insane
I'd guess that was intentional. It seems that the world government does not know all of the details about the will of D, Nika, or Joyboy. They jsut know how to blow up entire islands
If I were Kaido, I would have just let Oden cut me in half to awaken my Joy Boy. Pretty sure I would still have been breathing. Stop copying lame comments.
My the world government doesn’t know the fruit works that way or they where actually trying to prevent it, it would be crazy if they actually wanted it to return tho
You know, since Luffy would be brazilian, it reminded of the brazilian seringueiros. A industry that formed around the seringueira, a brazilian native rubber tree, which when "bled", lets out a very viscous liquid/solid that can be turned into rubber. I think this is Luffy's new power. A more fundamental form of rubber: latex. Don't know if it is his awakening, however.
If Kaido was trying to become Joy Boy, then it’s kind of surprising he’s not part of the D clan. Unless his real name is something like Kai D. O. I like to imagine it would be Kai D. Oni. If I’m not mistaken- then that would make him “Demon God” or “Demon King”. This fits greatly with Oda’s tendency for wordplay and the World Government hiding certain D clan names over time.
I just thought of one thing... "D" is usually used to represent a wide smile "emoticon" on a variety of different cultures... The fact that people with the will of D die with a smile on their faces is very fitting lol
Western shits always tries to complicate things. Luffy is a defendant of joy boy probably a "D". And he probably is the reincarnation of joy boy simple as that.
Kaido, just one chapter earlier, even questioned the ability of rubber to change its direction at will as he got beaten up by snake man. Kinda like questioning if the power is about rubber at all.
I'm partial to the idea that Luffy is getting back up as Luffy but with a new power unlocked (possibly awakening). That said, this power up could have changed Luffy's presence to be eerily similar to Joyboy's hence Giant-Zou-Elephant-sama saying that it is Joyboy. Just my thoughts :)
@@allmight8127 I agree. I highly doubt Oda will do anything to even slightly dilute Luffy's achievements like introduce another individual's willpower acting inside him.. which is essentially what a possession is
no, oda will never make a character overpowered. even ope ope no mi that i believe is the most powerful fruit right now has its limits to the opponent's haki powers. so no, if luffy get so godly power instantly just because he somehow destined to be "the one" his journey is basically over.
@@JamzRamirez i disagree. Luffy can still be op and be challenged. Kaido isn't the most powerful pirate, and think of Luffy and the 4 emperors as still rookie pirates. hard to imagine? yes. is it impossible? no. Don't expect things to be impossible. This is Oda we are talking about. this is anime we are talking about. Does anime do its thing by doing what everyone expects it to do? no. that's what makes a good show or manga read.
I always thought the will of D. was the will of demons (as described by celestial dragons) or the will of devils (like maybe a clan that has to do with the creation of devil fruits) but given the events that transpired in 1043 it may refer to the will of "drums" or of a new "dawn" to relate to a song of liberation. That all said, what I think could be the most probable theory is that it stands for the will of death. Although grim, it could signify that through death the will of the great will keep reincarnating, and through death one can truly accept the will of all previous members of the clan. Maybe that's why kaido wants to die so badly, and he's been using Luffy all this time, hoping that he would get strong enough to kill him and make him Joy boy
It would fit their modus operandi if a bunch of paranoid, holier-than-thou slavedriving asshats decided to label their biggest opponents as "Devils" Edit: Add the theory that the CD are immortal or just the fact that they are hyper-protected and this works even better.
Random thought but with all the rebirth stuff, smiling upon death, and the clan being D. I think when a person of strong will dies their will forms their soul into a devil fruit. Hence the D in the names would stand for devil/devil fruit and they smile knowing the power they are about to pass on will cause even more chaos for their enemies. But that's just my fan theory. Just wanna call it now.
Only thing that is odd is why there is this weakness to the ocean. I know there is a umi being the word for sea and imu being the inverse. So he may have something to do with it but it's still hazy from our current POV.
@@OnlineSarcasmFails maybe all the D family members are pirate thus after they became devil fruit they are cursed to not touch sea for the pass action idk just random thoughts
Adding on to Liam saying “The Gomu Gomu no mi’s awakening is going back to its true form”, if you didnt know, rubber in its truest and natural form comes from a tree called “Hevea brasiliensis” and whats interesting about this is that rubber in its true form is actually a Liquid. Which really connects to this theory of the rubber fruits awakening is going back to its truest form. Idk about u guys but I thought this was rlly cool bc it makes so much sense :)
There is the idea I saw that Luffy's power might actually be Resin, not Rubber, Resin has the exact same stretchy and lightning resistant properties of rubber but it is also very flammable (I.E. Red Hawk/Red Roc) and can also become a liquid, just like what appears to be happening to Luffy at the end of the recent chapter
@@Thermait I mean, we've seen how Luffy uses it, and whatever theories were had for the Gum Gum fruit itself likely would also work for a Resin fruit, be it belonging to the original Joy Boy or what have you
@@Thermait I guess the explanation would be it’s not the powers themselves that scare the WG but the history of what the people who possess those abilities have accomplished. Meaning the liberation of people that Nika/Joyboy are purported to have partaken in.
seriously such amazing character building and world building through the show. the time it will take you to watch the show is the time the show goes by. you go on this adventure with the characters and find a love for each one of them never quit. i wish with all my heart i could forget it all and rewatch it. the fact that the show is unable to live for every brings tears to my eyes. stay strong my nakamas.
The going merrys had the spirit that through the constant love of the straw hats, decided to help them and show them itself. Maybe with the effort and kindness luffy always puts off, when he awakened his fruit, the previous weilder of the fruit have a much stronger connection to him. Kind of like sabo eating aces fruit, but on steroids. To tie back to the going merry, at first the ghost only appears in shadows, and usopp has no clue what he saw in sky pia, But later on in water 7 it makes its full appearance.
I read somewhere that Luffy's devil fruit might be based on natural rubber all along, the one we harvest from trees, which is why he's turning liquid-like. We just assumed he is based on synthetic rubber because that is what we are all accustomed to when someone mentions rubber.
And streching is basic from rubber of this time then breathing oxygen only made him be bouncing ball(gear4) is second stage if we want explore more oda forced turn it be liquid
Oda confirmed in SBS Vol 8 that it's natural rubber. Natural rubber starts at latex, which explains balloon form. It's also flammable, so perhaps gear 2 and 3 aren't eating away at his life span.
Honestly I really dig how the conversation around kaido has changed in the past year or so, when he was introduced everyone thought he was a really lacking villain personality and motivation wise but it seems like that opinion is changing
Yeah, but the more chapter we get, the more " good " sides we see of him. Ever since he apologied to Oden about the Old hag, it made me think, he won't die as a vilain, perhaps he won't die in Wano, but in the great war Oda was talking about few years ago. If it is as sick as he pretended, then I don't mind seeing yonko vs admirals Sometimes he gives me some Kenpachi'vibes or Nagato's vibes
@@Martin-yh7vi Yep but when you look at crocodile and what he did back then, it's not at the same level as Wano, but in regards to all of that Luffy kinda created a sort relation with him even though Luffy doesnt accept crocodile at 100%, it's mainly crocodile's point of view that matters, maybe Kaido's motivation will change after his fight against Joyboy
In the same chapter where Luffy dances around the campfire on Skypiea, literally on the same page, literally right behind him is Usopp playing the drum, which makes the same sounds, that are heard by Zunisha.
After 8 years I joined back to this wonderful Manga. I'm kind of surprised how "slowly" the story progressed on years but your theories and videos helped me getting back to the good stuff which is one piece. Thanks for that.
If this is Luffys awakening I hope he just can change his rubber properties between his base form, the rubber resin/liquid form that acts like katakuri, and possibly a vulcanized rubber form or something that is tougher and hits harder but not nearly as stretchy.
I'm an Anime only watcher, but I have been keeping up with the Manga lately because I had a feeling something big was coming. This is way beyond my expectations! Well played Oda sensei, well played...
If the resurrection of joyboy was predicted 800 years ago, maybe the civilization of the ancient kingdom gave themselves the middle name D. which could mean sth like "Drums" so that they can "track" which person might be the resurrection of joyboy and who could´nt.
I always hated the theory that Luffy's awakening would turn the world into rubber, never seemed creative enough. I like the Sun Wukong theory and the Luffy turns into sap or whatever theory more. Edit: After watching ImDKing's video I have been converted to believing Luffy has the Resin-Resin fruit lol
I’ve always thought that Oda would pull a flip on Luffy’s devil fruit it was always weird that it was the fruit that Shanks wanted to steal and that the World Government wanted it as well. For a good amount of my One Piece life I thought it would be revealed that he had a Logia, a petrochemical version as newer rubber’s like car tyres are mixed with Petrochemicals or oils to make them stronger, this would also explain Luffy’s use of Red Hawk, as oils and such can transfer heat without damaging their properties. This was all until I was shown the Dr Vegapunk drawing that shows that the Gomu Gomu Fruit combined with a rocket makes a monkey with rockets…. the only fruits that can be given to inanimate objects are Zoan fruits, but it’s definitely not the Monkey Monkey fruit, and how in Wano they’ve talked about the naming of Devil Fruits and how that has power, I think the World Government renamed the Gomu Gomu, because it’s actually the Mythical Zoan Fruit Model Sun Wukong / Monkey King, this explains Luffy’s stretching, Red Hawk, Organ Gun and Snake Man and every other ability that seems a bit off, also the transformation into Gear 4 that makes him very much look like the Monkey King
I find it hilarious that we were all having different theories about what the gomu no mi is and then Oda draws a cover page with a monkey king pointing to a melting fruit then puts this past chapter out and says next week is a break and then the week after the next chapter jump goes on break. Oda is trolling all of us
“ Anti Joyboy “ is on point. He has the false illusion the giving smiles to other people will make him joyboy. Also Luffy will be to Momo like Kaido is to orochi.
Hi Liam. I am a channel member for the Grandline Review on TH-cam and I was wondering what your plans were for that part of your channel. You made a post on your membership section 5 months ago stating that you were going to be adding special content but nothing has been posted in the member area since you made that post. I’m really enjoying all the content on your channel as it is an easy way for myself to get information that I missed from One Piece chapters and the comedy side of things is very entertaining as well. Also you put up a poll on your channel asking your audience which Straw Hat do we think will die. I would love to know the results and was hoping you would make a video on it. Otherwise keep up the amazing work
Struggling with some personal stuff at the moment, and it’s been really helpful just getting lost in your channel and some mad theories to distract my thoughts. Thanks MrGL
I'm just chilling for a fight where there is that Luffy-kaido exchange when the fight is heated up with the new Luffy. Where Luffy's like "Kaaaidooooo!!!" and Kaido's like "Joooooy Boyyyyyy" and then there's a haki clash.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@adambajczyk1451 I assume you’re talking about the JoyBoy theory, The main issue I have with it is Luffy dying. I think it doesn’t make sense from a narrative stand point.
it could be more of a figurative death i mean there is that idea is some story's were your so close to death you may count as dead but you come back even stronger now that you have experienced it
@@rkinn1998 , Sun Wukong had lava poured on his body, and the only damage it did to him was him having permanent red eyes just like how after Luffy got a magma punch from Akainu the only negative effect it had on Luffy was Luffy getting a permanent X-Scar on his chest, so either Luffy’s Devil Fruit Awakening is going to use Resin abilities in combat, or he has a Sun Wukong Devil Fruit ability.
@Creepy Girl , rubber in its purest natural state is resin oil, so I could see that another plausibility on why Luffy survived his encounter with Akainu, but Ace died besides Luffy not having the hotheadedness that Ace and Roger has.
Further support for the 1039 color page, 1043 can be read as Ten - Four - Three. A possible translate would be Ju Shi Mi or as devil fruit jushi jushi no mi (樹脂); the resin resin fruit.
Remember when everyone praised the SH DF number theory and how genius Oda was for implementing such a clue and how Luffy always had 56 on his clothes to represent his fruit name Gomu? Yeah doesn't changing his fruit erase all that and detract from the hype around Oda's master level of planning?
It would be disappointing, why hyping a devil fruit so much and even calling it a legend when in the end it is just....resin? I mean come on, we have light DF, Darkness DF, gravity DF and many more...but yeah, resin is the legendary one 🤷♂️
@@paolobrambilla4958 Idk, look up Natural Rubber. still carries all attributes of rubber itself but in a liquid form. Maybe it some correlation to the tree that grows in Marijoa as that tree is clearly important. I doubt we're gonna be upset by the outcome of this overall though. Oda's pretty good at this story telling thing
This could also be why luffy is always hungry or eats more than what is normally accepted in the world of one piece since he has two sides (joy boy or the monkey king) that are equally as hungry as him and explains why he eats even if he's "asleep"
I think we will get a scene showing that all the CP0 members are actually slaves of the Celestial Dragons, it will turn out they all have some variation of the exploding collars somewhere on or inside their bodies, that can be activated from Marijois. The reason the guy who held Luffy decided to just stand there and take Kaido's hit is because he is sick of being a slave, especially after hearing how X-Drake lives his life. I think after Luffy defeats Kaido the ones who will help the Straw Hats escape will be CP0 led by Rob Lucci.
@@whitty1405 I think Luffy being forced to accept Rob Lucci's help in order to escape the WG when leaving Wano, will follow up with Luffy setting him and some of the other members of CP0 (like Kaku and maybe even Spandam) free from their slavery. Showing Luffy's resolve that no matter what you've done in the past slavery is to harsh a sentence for anyone.
One of son wukongs greatest rivals/battles was against ao kuang who could turn into a dragon that looks very similar to Kaido I know kaido is said to be based off a Mongolian but I wouldn’t doubt oda took some inspiration from ao as well
This is probably just me, but I think the "D" in the will of D stands for "Dawn" Drums is good and all, for liberation and freedom, but I think "Dawn" brings more meaning since almost all of the people who have the letter D in their name whom we've seen have had significant impacts on the "Dawn" of the new world.
Drums works too, every member of the D clan has drummed up the world, and a lot of the D folk have been liberators. Dragon being an obvious choice, Luffys first impressions liberating koby and Zoro, Blackbeard liberating impel down
@@ayyazkhan1917 , if Black Beard is capable of killing Imu Sama then that means that he’ll be a liberator of the World Government and just the Impel Down Prisoners themselves, so the Drums of Liberation sounds like another plausible theory involving the Will of D.
Grand Line you Rock! Everyone else is talking about "awakenings" and "Gear 5th" and you are pointing out all the jucy depth that Oda lays out chapter by chapter. I'm on this journey to embrace the lessons and story tellings left by oda and you reflect on them well with your week to week analysis.
I think the point about how Kaido dies being important to him is huge. That is something that threw me before; if he was really just suicidal he could jump in the ocean or just consume a second devil fruit. Dead ducky.
I think Shank's "certain pirate" he tells the nobles about is Luffy. Seems a little weird the government wants to take out Luffy after Shanks goes to meet them. It seems also weird that you see all D. carriers in the new anime opening smile, but Shanks is the only one frowning.
What ever this new power of awakening is going to be I think it’s safe to say this will be called Gear 5th: Sun God/Joy Boy. Also real quick what if Joy Boy’s real name is Binks D Nika?
Just a weird idea i had, what if everyone with the "D" smile when they die cause they are close to joyboy? Mmh i thought of it before seeing it in the video but yeah
I just realised the Gomu Gomu no Mi in design looks similar to the head ring Sun Wukong usually wears. In some depictions, the head ring functions as a restrain for Wukong himself.
Hearing the theory that the Gomu Gomu gives the power to bounce back, you can consider that as all of Luffy's near death experiences have made him stronger, going one better and bouncing back from death will make him that much more.
I have a question cause i know they talk about how the drums beat when joyboy comes, Yea luffy looked like nika but usopp was right next to him playing the drums, I wonder what weight that holds?
Just noticed every Mythical Zoan user have some effects when they're transforming. Sengoku shining like a lamp, Kaidou causing a black clouds and thunder roaming around, Yamato and Marco with blue fire. I think Luffy melting is the effect of his transforming.
luffy definitely does have the gourmet cells to rinne rebirth from the cellular level and the stress from battle also is the catalyst for his DF awakening... law will not use the immortality on fluffy - he too stronk
If you think about it, letter D looks awfully a lot like Luffy’s smile. Could also be the reason that artificial devil fruits smiles end up making people smile
Luffy wanted a musician real badly before he called the crew a complete, and coincidentally he got a dead musician, could that also be referring to the idea that luffy needs to die to be complete, just like Kaido’s ideal
I like the idea that all members of the D clan get a friendly little visit by the spirit of joyboy when they die, hence the smiling. What if it's with the twist that joyboy is actually looking for the right D member to resurrect. Maybe having his old devil-fruit was a prerequisite for what is about to happen, which is why the other members of the D clan still died.
I feel like JoyBoy will be kinda like Torikos Budda demon, doesn’t interact with luffy but comes out to keep the body alive, and the power up is the fruit awakening
I'm.hoping this is part of luffys awakening, he and everything around him becomes like a goopy rubber substance... Like flubber! If anyone remembers that's gem of a Robin Williams movie!
Luffy is still rubber though. He was immune to Enel's powers. Rubber, when tapped, is liquid. This could just be a devil fruit awakening with the will of joyboy
So one theory is that the GumGum fruit is actually a mythical Zoan Type for the Monkey king. His stretching powers come from the Staff, his rubber body is Sun Wu Kongs ability to transform, and his red hawk ability is the monkeys power over mystical fires.
If he was sun wukongs mythical zoan he would be immune to lightning so ye but I don't remember sun wukong having the ability to stretch his staff and bend it at will so idk
@@Thermait i think its another monkey god, Hanuman, Hanuman can stretch, shape shift and he is inmune to fire and lighting. He also was cursed by the gods and forgot his powers but he could get them back if he was reminded of them.
so i cant remeber who said it when this chapter came out but i think luffies awakening Crude oil. reasoning behind this is because synthetic Rubber is 70% crude oil based item so i think he will have the paramisia type and logia mixture
man.. I was under the belief that Joy Boy was his own person, but actually thinking about him as a spirit rather than just a title makes me a bit upset because if he is, and if he's come back through Luffy's death, that means we really lost our boy :'(
I don't think we lost him. He is MC. In my opinion, this is an "awakening" of his devil fruit, that is why Zunesha feels its power and she knows that Joy Boy had this power too that is why she assumes that Joy Boy returned.
Hey Liam : need your opinion or ❤️. Found this online. Based on previously laid out repeating patterns all through the series, I’ve come to the conclusion that not only is Joy Boy and the Sun God Nika the same person, I also propose the backstory of Joy Boy himself. I think that “The One Piece” was a treasure and a dream inherited by Roger himself when he found Laugh Tale. What Roger actually discovered on that island is simply a story detailing the life of Joy Boy - and a declaration that whosoever finds the island and it’s secret now gets to have the “One Piece”. But let’s start at the beginning. A great calamity was set loose upon the world - a being so legendary and terrible that his actions caused great turmoil upon the world. A giant, the strongest one, so strong that it is said that he could pull continents, was causing great harm upon many nations. This great giant was known as Oars. And so…many warriors came from far and wide to try and stop this creature. And here comes none other than the great warrior Nika! Hair a flaming red and one who had strange abilities - the ability to stretch! Finally, the two meet in an epic battle - one that lasts many days! And to everyone’s surprise…the two are completely evenly matched! And in their battle, an appreciation for each other grew…and eventually, an understanding. Nika realized why Oars had been so upset. He’s simply hot…burned by a sun that he cannot hide from due to his immense size. And so…Nika realized the only way to stop him. Not by combat…but by creating for him…a hat. A Straw Hat. A gigantic Straw Hat. Oars, being the simpleton that he was…claimed that Nika had control over the sun! A Sun God! This scenario alone already uses a lot of pre-established tropes, themes and previous scenarios within One Piece. Just to name a few: A fierce battle between two fighters over a trivial cause - Dory and Broggy. Norland and Calgara’s relationship from enemies to friends. Zoro and Sanji’s unceasing rivalry. The argument between Dog Storm and Cat Viper, Duke of Night and Day. Shanks and Buggy’s rivalry and Buggy bringing it up due to the hat. An unlikely friendship between a smaller creature and a giant (Usopp and the Giants, Robin and Saul, Brook and Laboon, Ace and Oars Jr.). It was the Ace and Oars Jr. comparison specifically that made me draw that direct comparison. Ace created a japanese STRAW HAT to shield Oars Jr. from the sun. Also, due to Sun God Nika’s lanky and flexible silhouette, I’m inclined to believe, due to other plot points literally revealed by the same character in Chapters 1017 and 1018, that Sun God Nika had none other than the power of the Gomu Gomu no Mi. This is why that devil fruit was valued. The same way that the World Government is keeping the giant Straw Hat by Oars. They are RELICS, symbols of power and objects that are a direct evidence to the true story hidden in the Void Century. More on this later. After Oars was defeated, after the “Sun God calmed the Disaster”, the two became the best of friends. They would both laugh and laugh, so much that Oars’ laugh can be heard for miles. But then, finally, Nika must depart and continue on his journey. Oars is both sad and intrigued. Why does he leave? To which Nika simply responds - to see the world. And it’s great treasures! For you see, Nika was not just some warrior…he was a brave warrior of the sea. A Pirate, even, to some. And one probably in search of a great treasure… Oars is inspired. And he decides to help his newfound friend. But instead, he wants to compete. He wants to find the great treasure first…and give it to Nika. And so, the two agree on a promise…Nika sails one direction…while Oars sails the other. And then, at the other halfway point of the world…they will meet again. And perhaps, either one will now have the Greatest Treasure in their possession. The great warrior Sun God Nika’s adventures takes him to many great kingdoms and change them for the better. Each new island Sun God Nika came upon was saved by his immense power and kindness. He freed slaves, brought down tyrants and even promised to save the most hated race - the Fishmen that live under the sea. And so, in his epic journey…Sun God Nika came to be known as Joy Boy. And it was then that Joy Boy realized what were the greatest treasures that he found all over the world…it’s people. His friends. (The greatest treasure were the friends we made along the way. I know that’s cliché but goddamn it’s a theme that fits.) As he gathered friends, nakama, followers all over the world, perhaps even 20 kings who swore to him with sake cup in hand…Joy Boy just grew more excited to meet his oldest friend once more and close this tale. To share Bink’s Sake and to drink it as equals, a tradition started by the brethren that joined him. Among them, was a curious individual who eventually became his second in command…a man known as Im. Nika was reaching the half-way mark. He was soon to see his friend Oars once more. But…as fate would have it…a cataclysmic natural phenomena has separated the two. A series of volcanoes around the world all erupted at the same time…creating an impenetrable mountain ring that spans the entire world! A Red Line… Like before, you likely would have seen the parallels already. I think Mother Carmel going for the Sun Imagery and saying “The Sun God Calmed the Disaster” was her directly quoting scripture of sorts - specifically the religion around the Sun God Nika. Other than that, there’s these examples: The promise of adventure and hats, and great treasure. Shanks and Luffy is the most obvious parallel here. But that departure due to the call to adventure is also similar to Norland leaving Calgara, or even Yassop leaving Usopp. Luffy’s journey in general is poetically the same journey Nika once took. And perhaps, one that actually finishes what Nika started. This is why Luffy is “the man Roger was waiting for”. Without knowing it, setting sale from the island of “Dawn”, Luffy retraces the steps of Sun God Nika before him. The drinking of the sake cups as a swearing of friendship as well as Bink’s Sake are obvious things that SHOULD be part of this entire backstory, I think. And lastly, going back to Norland and Calgara once more, an unstoppable natural phenomena prevents the reunification of the two - the same way the knock up stream changed their fates, the creation of the Red Line tragically meant that Nika…would never see Oars again. Also, one other side note here. I think Shanks is descended directly from Sun God Nika. This could be why Roger even brought along such a young child in his final voyage. Roger would have known about Nika even from just Lodestar Island. And also, this is why Shanks was crying terribly when Roger told him what he found - that his ancestor was never reunited with his friend. I also like the theory that Shanks is Rocks’ son that Roger took in after he killed Rocks. It could be why he’s so powerful and why he thinks HE should be “King of the World” because that was what Sun God Nika technically was. And so…Sun God Nika was on the verge of despair…when through the gloom, several miles away…he heard a familiar sound. A laugh. A laugh that echoed through the mountain itself! And then…it was then that he knew. His friend was waiting for him. Oars was waiting for him on the other side. Each day, Oars would try to punch through the Red Line and laugh and laugh, trying to send his message across the divide! A laugh that only his friend would recognize. Direct comparison here is none other than Laboon’s call that he does against the Red Line, to call forth to Brook. And of course, bashing his head against the Red Line was likely what Oars tried to do as well. Sun God Nika…Joy Boy…he knew. He knew what must be done. This Red Line must be torn down…but he wasn’t gonna be able to do it alone. He rallied his old friends, journeyed back to lands he visited before. The Kings that swore to him, he gathered. All of his nakama knew and sympathized with Nika’s story…his dream to see his friend again! And so, with their combined efforts, they formulated a plan…one that involved creating these truly world changing powers - ones that were eventually known as Ancient Weapons. But their true purpose…was to destroy the Red Line. To end the divide. To make the world whole again. To make it…One Piece. The very friends he treasured, all gathered together to fulfill his dream…it created a great alliance. And soon after, a nation. A Kingdom with one purpose - to unite the world. And all of their hopes and dreams, thrust upon this one plan - the One Piece. Joy Boy’s dream. Alas…it did not come to be. Joy Boy was betrayed. For what reasons, I can only speculate. Perhaps Im thought he could better rule this Kingdom rather than following his friend’s foolish dream. Who knows. But a betrayal was committed…and the reason for this formed alliance between these kings was corrupted. A great civil war takes place…which ends in the death of Sun God Nika. And then…an age of darkness. Where all light is snuffed out, and the true tale that brought upon the age…was hidden. A void century where dreams and legends live…no longer told. And with that…that dream was passed on. Despite the best efforts of darkness to bury the truth…the light prevailed. All until one dying man, who knew the complete story, used his dying breath…to light the fires that will set the world on fire!
@Bananasaur Honestly most stories copy scripture tales. Because there's a reason these tales are so old and told for so long. Not because they are true, but they speak to something internally and echoes loudly.
I really like the: "destroying the redline" part, the sake sharing part, and the betrayal aspect. Those should legit be a part of the story, because it'd make the tale more epic.
It seems a little interesting that Luffy dies and then is reborn as Joy Boy whilst Marco is in the same place and same time, what with Marco having the Mythical Zoan devil fruit that turns him into a Phoenix - a mythological creature who is reborn from its own flames. It's too relevant to the plot to just be a coincidence, at least for Oda it is.
@@apopheniapareidolia Marco may have some insight as to why Luffy was resurrected due to the nature of his own DF. Kaido said it might be old fashioned but he thinks death completes a man. Marco is an older pirate, he might be the necessary exposition the strawhats need to hear from after the arc is concluded.
Given the competition for Devil Fruit among pirates and marines alike, I would imagine the Gomu Gomu no mi had been used by more than one person between Joyboy and Luffy. But, there must have been a number of conditions that needed to be met to produce a reincarnation/avatar state that we see now.
Hey Liam I think it could be super fun to look back to theories from the past that either turned out to be true or went completely wrong! New theories are fun of course but so many go forgotten, what a waste!
The world government knew the joyboy implications all along and set the stage for Luffy to become it. All as part of a disguised act to betray the celestial dragons and end their servitude.
When you read the next verse of the song " going to deliver binks' sake, today and tomorrow, our dreams through the night, waving our goodbyes, we'll never meet them again" it's very bitter sweet
This is a show with time travel and future sight. Luffy might of been witnessed rather than predicted. Rather than being the chosen one, he is the inevitable one, the one people saw a glimpse of though time and put their faith in.
Just came here at 4am after binging the manga (I was anime only until I heard about the hacker attack preventing more episodes) and my WORD this video just makes everything just so much BETTER. You have a new crewmate good sir.
May be this rhythm of the drum resounded through luffy's will till now. The power Hawkeye mentions about bringing people together during the marineford arc makes much sense now! And Joyboy's spirit awoke in luffy because of his simplistic, kind and the supreme kindly character and the devil fruit. And frankly Kaido qualifies for those characters as well! 😄
The power Hawkeye talked about is that Luffy has a charming and endearing personality that that leads people to his side. Has nothing to do with joy boy.
@@Someguyonline7732 , the power Mihawk talks about could be that Luffy really is the reincarnation of Joyboi because think about Mihawk is the worlds strongest swordsman of all time thus meaning he should have been able to take down all of the Four Emperors minus Post-MarineFord War Black Beard, but he hasn’t why? Luffy fights people with mental disabilities, physical disabilities, elderly people, etc etc, but yet Mihawk only limits himself to fight only prime fighters without any disabilities at all, so it is very plausible for Luffy to being the reincarnation of Joyboi himself.
@@Someguyonline7732 Apart from magic and rebirth or any other such theories, this seemed more relatable. And I did mean to say that the charming and endearing personality is one of the main and unique ingredients to awaken the spirit of Joyboy. If you observe, apart from Roger, none had it! But he was missing quite a few elements like time and the devil fruit 😁
If Joyboy did really posses Luffy I can absolutely see Luffy just starting to punch himself to get Joyboy out of his body

Luffy: What are you doing to my body? Give it back.
JB: ...how are you able to move?

I believe "Joyboy" had the devil fruit in its awakened state, so Zunesha sensed the awakening Luffy had and called him Joyboy. I don't think it's Luffy being possessed or anything, just that he now holds the same ability as Joyboy did.
Thank God sumone said it,
Yeah, came here for this comment!

One piece logic is getting out of hand. I think its time to end this One piece before it gets more nonsense.
One interesting thing I noticed recently, is Kaido's face, he always has what looks like an upside down smile ( not a frown, but like intentionally a smile but flipped) which might show his twisted idea of what joyboy is or should be.
Or how overtime that smile sorta flipped over trail and error over and over again
Yea, hes an angryman.
@@shavarclarke7212 i think that also shows off his like inner dilemmas of thinking Luffy could be joyboy and then going back on that
If the return of Joyboy is something triggered by death or near death, then Kaido was pursuing becoming Joyboy by trying to get himself killed this whole time.
My the world government doesn’t know the fruit works that way or they where actually trying to prevent it, it would be crazy if they actually wanted it to return tho
maybe if a person with conquerer's haki dies, they 'turn into joyboy'?
You know, since Luffy would be brazilian, it reminded of the brazilian seringueiros. A industry that formed around the seringueira, a brazilian native rubber tree, which when "bled", lets out a very viscous liquid/solid that can be turned into rubber.

If Kaido was trying to become Joy Boy, then it’s kind of surprising he’s not part of the D clan. Unless his real name is something like Kai D. O. I like to imagine it would be Kai D. Oni. Good news
I mean new dawn makes sense cause the original manga was called romance dawn no?
It would fit their modus operandi if a bunch of paranoid, holier-than-thou slavedriving asshats decided to label their biggest opponents as "Devils"
Edit: Add the theory that the CD are immortal or just the fact that they are hyper-protected and this works even better.
Yeah this also aligns with oda being a buddhist, death & reincarnation stuff
Random thought but with all the rebirth stuff, smiling upon death, and the clan being D. I think when a person of strong will dies their will forms their soul into a devil fruit. Hence the D in the names would stand for devil/devil fruit and they smile knowing the power they are about to pass on will cause even more chaos for their enemies. But that's just my fan theory. Just wanna call it now.
I will literally come back here and scroll through 2k+ comments when you’re right

Drums is good and all, for liberation and freedom, but I think "Dawn" brings more meaning since almost all of the people who have the letter D in their name whom we've seen have had significant impacts on the "Dawn" of the new world.
I personally thinks it's for Dreams
@@Lafkoko will of dreams sounds pretty cool too

Grand Line you Rock! Everyone else is talking about "awakenings" and "Gear 5th" and you are pointing out all the jucy depth that Oda lays out chapter by chapter. I'm on this journey to embrace the lessons and story tellings left by oda and you reflect on them well with your week to week analysis.
I think the point about how Kaido dies being important to him is huge. That is something that threw me before; if he was really just suicidal he could jump in the ocean or just consume a second devil fruit. Dead ducky.
Maybe the fruit thing sure but it's possible he can breathe underwater because of his fruit power. He is a fish after all.
Fish fish any hints? He wouldn't die underwater he'd just sink forever lol
I think Shank's "certain pirate" he tells the nobles about is Luffy. Seems a little weird the government wants to take out Luffy after Shanks goes to meet them. It seems also weird that you see all D. carriers in the new anime opening smile, but Shanks is the only one frowning.

Hearing the theory that the Gomu Gomu gives the power to bounce back, you can consider that as all of Luffy's near death experiences have made him stronger, going one better and bouncing back from death will make him that much more.
The it could be a mythical zoan got me 😂😂
I have a question cause i know they talk about how the drums beat when joyboy comes, Yea luffy looked like nika but usopp was right next to him playing the drums, I wonder what weight that holds?
Makes too much sense. Guys like this comment so Liam can see it.
Luffy wanted a musician real badly before he called the crew a complete, and coincidentally he got a dead musician, could that also be referring to the idea that luffy needs to die to be complete, just like Kaido’s ideal
I believe Luffys dream is to be a rockstar. He’s going to be the drummer
na not really
Looking back it’s surprising how right Liam was about Luffys devil fruit
I like the idea that all members of the D clan get a friendly little visit by the spirit of joyboy when they die, hence the smiling. What if it's with the twist that joyboy is actually looking for the right D member to resurrect. Maybe having his old devil-fruit was a prerequisite for what is about to happen, which is why the other members of the D clan still died.
I feel like JoyBoy will be kinda like Torikos Budda demon, doesn’t interact with luffy but comes out to keep the body alive, and the power up is the fruit awakening
1M subs is not enough for this guy... Deserves so much more. I could listen to him rant all day XD
Further more Hanuman is an indian god, friend of the elephant god Ganesh, and the joyboy legend comes from India.
@@shizar998 ur onto something 👀
so i cant remeber who said it when this chapter came out but i think luffies awakening Crude oil. reasoning behind this is because synthetic Rubber is 70% crude oil based item so i think he will have the paramisia type and logia mixture
I am a simple person. I see Liam upload a video, I click.
man.. I was under the belief that Joy Boy was his own person, but actually thinking about him as a spirit rather than just a title makes me a bit upset because if he is, and if he's come back through Luffy's death, that means we really lost our boy :'(
Would be great if it was like spectre and oliver queen kind of situation from arrow
I don't think we lost him. He is MC. In my opinion, this is an "awakening" of his devil fruit, that is why Zunesha feels its power and she knows that Joy Boy had this power too that is why she assumes that Joy Boy returned.
How spot on this man was is actually insane
And one probably in search of a great treasure…
Oars is inspired.
A Red Line…
Like before, you likely would have seen the parallels already. I think Mother Carmel going for the Sun Imagery and saying “The Sun God Calmed the Disaster” was her directly quoting scripture of sorts - specifically the religion around the Sun God Nika.
Other than that, there’s these examples:
The promise of adventure and hats, and great treasure.
Good Lord, Jesus son of Mary and Joseph. Why you gonna quote the bible like that?
@Bananasaur Honestly most stories copy scripture tales. Because there's a reason these tales are so old and told for so long. Not because they are true, but they speak to something internally and echoes loudly.
Cute.
What makes it relevant that Marco is in the same spot?
@@apopheniapareidolia same thing I was wondering

I’m gonna miss the look of the Giant bearded man for Joy Boy once an actual design comes around
