  • In this video, learn how to make Chef Nicole McLaughlin’s traditional Scotch eggs, a boiled egg wrapped in sausage, breaded, and deep-fried. Serve this fun and interesting dish on a bed of lettuce with sliced tomatoes and mustard for garnish. They can be served as an appetizer, snack, side, or light meal with a fresh side salad. If you want to get the messy work done ahead of time, prepare them one day in advance and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

You should try them with a Dijon hollandaise sauce. They are Amazing, the acidity cuts through the fatty sausage and mixes with the runny yolk to make an even richer sauce.

Nicole you are the best. That looks amazing. At first it looked like to much sausage but it wasn't.
Way to go girl. You nailed it to the wall.

You knocked it out of the park on your first try!! I think if you put the sausage on parchment paper, it could be easier to work with but I worry about removing the shells from soft boiled eggs. Anyway, you have convinced me and Jimmy Dean to give it a try! Thanks for another great video and a different egg dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner! 😘

In my 43 years growing up in England eating hundreds if not thousands of these I have only ever had them home made once and never ever runny or hot.😮

A couple of little tips from a Brit!
If you put cling film (Saran Wrap) on the board, you can use another piece on top of the sausage and roll it out. Take the top one off once it's flat. place the egg in the middle and use the cling film covering the board to form the ball of sausage around the egg, it's a lot easier. Wet hands will also help with this stage.
If you are using hard boiled egg especially, you can refrigerate the scotch egg for a short time to firm up the sausage before coating.
Fun facts: The scotch egg was invented in 1738 by Fortnum & Mason as an travel snack for people travelling to and from their London store. Fortnum & Mason are still trading, selling food hampers and other foodie items.
During the Suffragette protests in 1911 (the campaign for the rights of women in the UK to vote), the windows of F&M were smashed by protesters. When the ladies in question were released from Holloway prison, the store gave the protesters hampers!

You paired a salad with a scotch egg?... the disrespect...
You pair a scotch egg with a Caledonia's Best, a Tennants Lager, maybe an Irn Bru even and some chips.
