Rabbi, I'm about to say, "I don't mean to be argumentative but don't we have a great tradition of argument/ debate?" I feel as if, finally, I have had my eyes opened to the evils of altruism, something it seems so few understand. This happened after listening to talks with Ayn Rand. I don't see how it is wrong to have rational self interest and freedom to keep or give the fruits of one's own labor based on values... as opposed to some statist creed that over must be willing to sacrifice himself for his neighbor, putting their needs above his own. Can we make a distinction between what you just said in the video about serving being greater than one's needs and altruism, which expects us to exist merely for the sake of others.
I think the problem you are encountering is a push back against the Christian idea of sacrifice. It's not altruism but sacrifice that Ayn Rand was really getting at. Self interest isn't inherently evil, and can be harnessed to make the world a better place as a source of motivation. You can be moral without having to sacrifice anything. She's right about that, but you don't need to take it to an extreme and state that being self interested IS moral. It's parev, it's how it manifests that is the problem. Rabbi Friedman on the other hand is talking about a relationship. When you are in a relationship with someone, the relationship should be the focus, not what you get out of the relationship, because by definition a relationship involves more than one party. When you are in a relationship with Hashem, you want to make sure that when you are doing things for Him, you do them like you'd do something for your wife, i.e. you do it for her, not for what benefit you'll get out of it. That's just not nice. You want to find out the best way to do it, in the way she wants, not in the way YOU want to do it. She likes roses, but you don't, so you get her tulips? So this is one situation where the idea of self interest is irrelevant, and if brought in, would be inappropriate. So that's the resolution between what Ayn Rand is saying and Rabbi Friedman

There is no good evidence that a god exists. I am convinced that if there is a god, it's not Yahweh. That doesn't mean there isn't value in Jewish practice. I celebrate a very liberal form of Shabbat. It's nice to take a break for 24 hours a week. During that time I avoid social media. That alone is worth doing in our modern world. It's freeing to leave the social media alone for 24 hours.
I believe in god because I believe there is something deeper than the human mind. The very fact that you and i are conscious and observing with no explanation is what makes me believe. Just my opinion!

I feel as if I must oppose The United States Department of Defence international constituences who aim to annihilate us without pity or mercy. Any normal person would, should and must oppose the armies of international constiuencies out to obliterate us from the face of the earth. It is my suspicion that this what they intend to do, obliterate us if we don't "fight like hell." I agree with President Trump totally on the issue of National Defense. I feel as if I am opposing the United States Congress and the United States Senat because of their untoward international constituencies. I an suspicious that their only aim is the total, and complete annihilation and obliteration of the United States of America. What some people would like to do is to offer these international constituency armies appeasements humam sacrifices of extermination of specific segments of the population. Such as every one over 30 may be exterminated, the aging, the chronically ill, the ugly people, the freaks, the cripples, the mentally ill, the terminally ill, etc.Suicides are encouraged. These people are useless anyway. Their lives are not worth saving. Their lives are not worth living. Anybody who has any type of flaw has no right to live, no right to use up space, and water, and air, and food that could be given to others. This is how they honestly feel. And then also appease them with a promise to prevent re-production and re-population among the offspring of those who are exterminated, by sterilizing their descendants. This would also prevent the discovering that their parents or grand parents were disavowed and murdered, assasinated in their hospital beds. Assinated in their welfare hotel. Assinated in their nursing home bed. Assasinated in the operating room. Assasinated in the casting couch. Assassinated in their prison cell. Assassinated in their jail cell. Assassinated in the infirmery. Assasinated in the barracks. Assassinated on the battle field to get their life insurance money and split it up several ways. Assassinated in the line of duty to get their life insurance money and split it up several ways, make a down payment on a new house, and a new wife or a new husband waiting on the side. I am suspicious about such. I don't think that things just happen of themselves. They have help. My home town is Los Angeles, California. Right now I am struggling the closed, secret trials and hearings of inmates and defendants. The public does to have access to public trials. I am struggling with the fact that prisoners cannot receive visits from their loved ones, their wives, husbands, children, their parents. I am struggling with feelings of deep distress and anxiety and regarding the suspicion of abuse of inmates at the County Jail and in the state prisons. I am struggling with feelings of despair and depression about suspicions of negligence in the care and handling of prisoners, defendants and inmates in the correctional system Military Prisons, Federal Prisons, State Prisons, LAPD Detention. Center, The Federal Detention Center, The LA County Jails, the City Jails, The holding cells. I am struggling with feelings of fear and distress and anxiety for their safety while they are in custody. I am struggling with feelings of suspicion of the people who work in these correctional facilities. I am struggling with feelings of depression, manic depression regarding these issues of rotten correctional officers. Rotten Sheriff's Deputies, Rotten probation officers. They have become a cast system and I just don't like that. Who do they that they are abusing people like. As a mother, I can tell you definitely I am on the under dog, the person killed or brutalized. I remember the story of that homeless woman who was punch around, knocked down and beaten up on the Freeway by California Highway 🚓 Patrol Officer. I felt sorry for her not for that officer. It's not even a close call. He did wrong. He tortured that poor homeless woman. I felt that he was beating on himself. I wanted somebody to come to her defense then and there, and equalize the situation, it wasn't a fair fight. The officers opponant didn't even know how to fight or defend herself at all. He took an unmanly advantage of her, because he was bigger and stronger, and he had the State at his back, so he could just do any thing he wanted to do to her. Unmanly brute. I was really about that, and I get angry every time I think about it as if it is happening right now. These scenes of violence are very frightening. But I have met some of the people in uniform, and who work for the government. On the whole, they really seem to have a lot of freaky emotional problems of their own, mentally unbalanced, personality disorders, drunkenness, inebriation, medication issues, personality disorders, marriage and family problems, financial problems, ego problems, borderline mentally retarded. Do these freaky emotional problems go with the job? I certainly would hesitate to socialize with them outside of the job. It's probably something in me that mistrust them. I am suspicious of the dichotomy that I see. Nature doesn't like a vacuum and people and professionals seem to be continually living in a vacuum. And I seem to be at cross-purposes with them constantly, and yet the represent the authority and power of the state. I love my country, but I am terribly upset and freaked out and ambivalent and anxious about these uniformed people who represent the power and authority of the state. I don't feel safe with them. Shouldn't that be the other way around? Intangibles; Mysticism Yes, O yes it has something to do with "intangibles". It has something to do with Kabalistic Mysticism. It has something to do with African Mysticism. It had something to do with Hindu Mysticism. It has something to do with Christian Mysticism. It has something to do with Islamic Mysticism.
What is intangible is more real than the physical said Plato - 1000 before rabbi Akiva and about 2000 years before Moses de Leon. Still very interesting this Plato Aristotle Torah Mysticism mashup. And the gentleman on the screen seems so pacifically adorable . Kind of like a grandpa that comes home with a sack full of gifts and reads bedtime stories

Why the sickening Babylonian Talmud instead of the Torah? Why the Babylonian star of Remphan instead of The Menorah?
Asking for a friend.
I personally want the law's of Torah, & Deuteronomy removed from public culture worldwide so I want fundamentalist, & orthodox religion's to have there power, & influence in political power removed.
That means I want the Lubavitch sects influence removed from political groups.
That means Christian fundamentalist religious laws removed also.
@@sidewinded1 There is an explanation. It's called a brain. Not having an explanation doesn't make god a good explanation.
@@jennoscura2381 Yes but think of it this way; atoms themselves are not living. So how can we get living things out of not living things?
EDIT: please disregard everything I said earlier. I did not read everything and immediately jumped to a conclusion you were an atheist trying to spread your ideas. sorry for the miscommunication! However, massive respect to you for the shabbat thing. Its a great time to simply get together with family and, like you said, take a break!
@@sidewinded1 I am an atheist. As far as I am concerned Yahweh is a work of fiction.
To answer your question. Life is just chemical reactions. Chemical reactions are physics. Water is wet. Hydrogen and oxygen do not have the property of wet. So it is possible for things to give things properties it doesn't have.
God is proven by science

You are certainly trying to be creative here. Are you bored? I could try to enlighten you, Niles Rivers.
All cults make passing references to actual science in their pitch LOL

Happy Mother's Day To Me.🎓
Happy Mother's Day To You.🎓
And many more.🎓
Being a mom can be physically and emotionally exhausting. Just when you think you can’t take another minute, something else comes along that requires your energy and effort. But the good news - the truth - is that you can find rest in the Lord.
Heavenly Father, I come to you today, humble and exhausted, and ask that you carry my burdens. I pray that you lift my weary spirit and fill me with your love and peace so that I may be restored and renewed in body and mind. Lord, pour your heavenly nourishment into my soul and give me the energy to sustain me in my role as a mother.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 12:28
It dawned on me this morning at dawn.
I am suspicious that allowing the statute of limitations run out on crimes that have been committed is one of the causes and reasons for the orchestrated forced closures, forced separations from family, forced disruption of family relationships, family ties, and forced covenant breaking, forced breaking up of households.
I am suspicious about the closed criminal cout trials.
The Evil One is still in place unmoved by all of our valiant efforts to save the day. What are we gonna do now?
Ramadan: World Crime Contunues.
The Foundations of World Crime go deep.
The Foundations of World Crime are still in place unmoved by all of our heroic efforts.
The roots of World Crime go deep, and the poisonous tree of World Crime spreads its branches spread all over the world.
The Foundations of World Racism go deep. The roots of World Racism go deep and the poisonous tree of World Racism and Reverse Racism spreads its branches all over the world throughout every latitude and longitude of the globe.

The Foundations of World War go deep.

I feel as if I am resisting and opposing the United States Department of Defense whose foundations go deep and whose roots go deep, and whose branches spread all over the world,
every latitude and longitude of this earth knows us.
Center, The Federal Detention Center,
The LA County Jails, the City Jails,
The holding cells.
Intangibles; Mysticism
Yes, O yes it has something to do with "intangibles". It has something to do with Kabalistic Mysticism. It has something to do with African Mysticism. It had something to do with Hindu Mysticism. It has something to do with Christian Mysticism. It has something to do with Islamic Mysticism. It has something to do with Greek Mysticism. It has something to do with Roman Mysticism. It had something to do with Native American Mysticism. It has something to do with Oriental Mysticism. It has something to do with Central and South American Mysticism. It has something to do with the Spanish Mystics.Mystics live in a vacuum.
