You my friend are the definition of a dedicated fisherman. In all sorts of weather, with all sorts of gear and baits and lures, and the best part is that you share it all with us. Thank you so much. I truly enjoy every one of your videos, even the ones where you are mostly just talking because at that time you are also teaching. Even an old riverbank fishing person like me has learned a lot. Thanks again and Happy Fishing.

Beautiful river! Brother tip for you on your flying fishing. You are trying to set the hook at the 10:00 a.m. position. If this makes sense trying keeping your rod tip pointing towards your target in the water around 7:00 a.m. position. You'll reduce the slack in the line and get a better hook set. Also try just mending the line and let it drop to your feet to help you feel the bite and on the retrive once you've set the hook. You're starting to nail the technique! Awesome job!

If you keep your rod tip low, you'll have less slack, more control and better hooksets. Shorter casts are also easier to control and help with more direct hooksets. Also, when at the end of the drift and you are retrieveing, mix in a tight deliberate twitch. You are already well on your way to become a competent fly fisherman. Love your willingness to try new things and not give up.

If your up in that area, try the South Holston River. It's the other river that runs into Boone Lake. Below the South Holston Lake dam there is a fish weir, so the water has a lot of oxygen in it Also, there used to be some big stripers that ran out of Boone Lake and up into the river at Bluff City.

I've tried fly fishing when I was a teenager back in the early 2000s, but couldn't get used to the feel and casting techniques used to properly operate a fly reel. I may try it again in the near future if I get interested enough in it again. It's just that constant back and forth motion to get your line all the way out there. It must be challenging at times, especially if you get a snag in a log or something.

    Hi, from South Africa.
I notice you missed a lot of strikes.
Try a strip strike to set the hook.
Strip back the line with your hand instead of lifting the rod tip.
If you don't connect you can carry on your drift.
    Enjoy
