I have both. I play them in a dual mono setup with vox fairly dirty (3 o clock) on the normal channel and the deluxe at 4.5 or so. It’s glorious.

I was deciding between these two amps back in 2014, and I chose the Vox, thinking that maybe I’d add the Princeton later…. I should have just bought them both because the price of the Fender has doubled - I could have gotten them both for less than what the Princeton goes for now. Vox is still a great deal, and it’s still the one I’d choose today.

Well. This is still an improvement. On that video, I thought it a good idea to put 1 am left and one right. That did not work out as well. On this video I was careful to cut out the room mic when playing and keep those amp mics as hot as I could. It took a while to edit but the result was totally worth it. Thanks for asking me to do this. Thanks for watching and commenting as always. Peace!

Btw I personally would love to hear how that Princeton sounds through the Vox's Greenback (and with a more ''gig like'' volume of 4-5 on the Princeton) and how that takes pedals. The original speaker would have been great but most folks who think of buying a Princeton would probably be more familiar with the Greenback's sound rather then Eminence (although I used to have one, and it sounds good on your Princeton)

Nice comparison video. Great job! I have the limited green 68 Princeton with the greenback speaker. It pushes more mids but misses the big fat bottom end. I used to have the stock amp but regretably sold it. I might buy a used celestion 10/30 just for the hell of it on ebay for a change in flavour! All the best from Chris in Scotland.

Cool. This video was a lot of work but it was fun. You should try a Weber ceramic magnet speaker. It sounds beautiful, nice low end. Mine blew though so buyer beware. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Peace Chris!!

Both sound good Rick, definitely recognizable different tones from each amp...appreciate your video that you don't dime the amps as a lot of reviews do. The Fender has a lot of comfortable/great bottom. It's enlightening that the VOX can also be adjusted to various tones, I have the AC15C1 Red Ltd Ed and it took me some experimenting to realize how to adjust the Top Boost as typically was using the Normal channel, and work the Master Volume with each. I add/mix a few pedals like reverb, delay, the Nobels OD and MXR compressor and Voodoo Labs Giggity, and there's a whole palette of colours which your video also demonstrates. Add a Stratocaster to the VOX or the Fender, and there's a perfect match with each. Look forward to your "very very careful" future videos. Best from Canada:)

Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment. Being a Fender guy forever, it was tough at first to dig the Vox. I had to erase the sound of the Fender and act like I was just starting. I like the Vox a lot, but not everyday.

Could the 68 really have enough headroom to stay clean for a rat and delay pedal for a gig? Pink Floyd type of sounds. I love the size, look, and tone of the Princeton and don’t want to haul a bigger amp around but fear it’ll start breaking up and sound nasty with the delay

It's great for small rooms. Bigger rooms and outside, it gets a little flubby. I got a better speaker for mine because the one it comes with is pretty light. It's my favorite amp.

Hey Rick. Great review bruh. I’m placing my order with AMS for the Vox AC15C1 & a G&L Tribute ASAT Special(Irish Ale) right now!
One thing I wish you would’ve done when A/Bing is compared the clean sound with AC15 in the normal input. I think it wasn’t as clean as it could’ve been b/c you were in the Boost jack. Yes?😎 thanks again.

    • @RickRomanelli
      @RickRomanelli  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Darren. Great comment. The problem was that the compressor pedal was on and actually driving the AC15 more than it did the Fender. I knew this when I finished the video but didn't do anything at the time. I really love the clean tone from the AC15 and if you go to my videos tab and search for Vox AC, you'll find more videos with clean Vox sound. Thank you so much for the nice comment.

      @@RickRomanelli I can’t wait for my new G&L ASAT & AC15C1 to arrive tomorrow!
I saw one of the owners of G&L talkin bout their Tribute series they make in Indonesia & I was really impressed. For one, they make the hardware in California & ship it to Indonesia for installation. The same stuff they put on their USA made guitars. Like the jumbo MFD single coil pickups & Leo Fender-designed G&L Saddle-Lock bridge.
Then once they arrive back in Fullerton they take each guitar outta the box to finish them. They polish & finish the frets, carve the nut, adjust & set the intonation, action & truss rod. Tune it & rebox it. Isn’t that cool? I already knew that G&L was a great company b/c of Fender, but that extra finishing to get even their imports up to their high quality standards made me pull the trigger on my first G&L.
I really wanted to get a Fender Tele but this ASAT is sweet. I’ll get a Fender Strat though since I saved so much on the G&L.😎

    • @RickRomanelli

@@Darrenbrown68 If I may, I have been playing G&L guitars since 1996 and I have owned 4 of them. A 96 USA S-500, A USA 97 Legacy, a Tribute Fallout, and a 97 USA ASAT Special. I still have the Legacy and the ASAT. They have all been exemplary. The biggest difference with the imports is the feel of the neck. It's not bad, only different. If you really love that style of guitar though, you should eventually also play some Fenders because they are a different kind of good. Make sense?

@@RickRomanelli oh must be the 68 Custom circuit then. I was hoping it was the speaker as I could change it out. I found the amp I tried too bassy even with bass at zero. With Gibsons mostly.
