    Great review, Ryan... I've got the ac15c1 and the '68 CPR... Both sure have their strengths. I find the Princeton more "set and forget" for me when I dial it in, and play more with the Vox to find new tones. I really love them both. Keep the vids coming, well done, sir!

    Nice comparison, I love both these amps, I own an ac15 c 1 and an old fender vibro champ, but would love a Princeton or deluxe Reverb, its good to have different flavors depending on your mood,Just like guitars,I can go for months on a tele or strat and then go back to a les Paul, and as odd as it looked ,both amps sounded great together as someone mentioned earlier, thanks for the video 👍

  • @JG-ux7of
    @JG-ux7of 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    They actually sounded great as a stereo rig, that's how I would use them. I would also experiment with a boost, overdrive, fuzz, delay to the Vox and modulation, delay and reverb to the Fender with each amp having its own looper. You could create different clean and dirty loops and play with delay set for different time and repeats or set one as reverse delay.
    I think you inspired me to buy another amp and try this out.

    I think what's interesting about the Vox tremolo is that it takes the standard Vox tone (that otherwise sounds much too thin to my ear), adds some low end and warmth to create something much more pleasing as a result.

    I actually really like the normal Channel on the vox. I find that it takes to fuzzes and OD better. If I use the top boost, it's just by itself. No pedals in front.

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think "better" is subjective here, I prefer how the fender handles fuzzes though i tend to dial them brighter.

    • @sammyherring9140
      @sammyherring9140 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, what Mark said. Using the normal channel is great to keep things darker and less jangly/bright. I only use it with pedals, and only use the top boost by itself. Same with ac30s, I use the low input with pedals so i can eq and level things out easier, and the high input when just using the amp.

  • @byrdz2313

    I enjoyed this demo. These are two wonderful amps. The AC15c1 however is an improvement over the AC15cc1. The c1 has a Top Boost channel, a tone cut dial, improved reverb, and a Green Back speaker. The cleans in the Top Boost channel of the c1 are just incredible.

    ps- Princetons have bias vary trem- if you biased the amp cooler you would increase the depth- the best part of bias vary is you can play through the trem (meaning all your transients stay in tact and the trem takes a back seat every time you hit a note and then comes out as the voltage goes down- this makes it a very musical an useful effect)

    Ryan I'm not sure exactly how the tone stack on the ac15 works, but I have an ac30cc2 and if you crank the treble on the top boost, it scoops the mids and gets very fender. Other than that I love how you can get such diverse tones from the two. If I had to take score, vox wins for drive, and the Princeton wins for reverb and tremelo

    I’ve used vox ac15s for years so I’m biased. They’re both great amps for very different reasons but the Vox is more versatile for my setup. I’m like you as well, Ryan. I play my Vox live with the master almost dined and the gain at around nine. Everything is mic’d and we’re on iems so I don’t need my amp to out run the drummer. Nice cleanish platform and pedals to taste.

    In this video, I like the Vox better and I'm a Fender player. The Princeton seemed to have too much bass/mush when pushed. The Vox seemed more clear/focused and held together better. In a "band gig" setting the Vox may sit better with it's less bass characteristics. Great video, thanks !

    • @aaronbrooks3913
      @aaronbrooks3913 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can turn the bass down on the Princeton lol. Rule of thumb with fender amps are the more you crank them the less bass you need on the knob.

    • @MrGuitarfreak132
      @MrGuitarfreak132 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think a lot of people don’t understand that bass frequencies take a lot of power. So the louder you crank the amp the more small amplifiers will sag trying to keep up with all that bass. So you need to turn the bass down to keep the overdrive smooth. Marshall’s tend to cut a lot of bass frequencies to keep the drive smooth cranked.

  • @dionj.pierre
    @dionj.pierre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    You have to allot time to work intensively to set your Vox to a tone that matches your preference because they're incredibly versatile and sensitive to even the slightest knob adjustment.Vox amps are not a plug-in and play amplifier. Also, achieving that Fender warmth is possible if you learn to master the eq and tone cut knobs. Other tricks, such as the ability to bleed the signal from the top boost channel into the normal channel, widen the AC15's sonic range. Run a Catalinbread DLS iii through it to make things interesting.

    • @PODMTHC

      I've always thought that acs sound horrible when I play them

  • @chriskucholtz6967
    @chriskucholtz6967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    As someone else said... Use that "tone cut" on the vox. It's there for a reason. And, use the normal channel, but still play with the top boost eq. As it is still somewhat usable even if you're using the normal channel. The AC15 hack.

  • @jj339c
    @jj339c 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think a better comparison would be one of the fender deluxe reverbs. (IMO). about same cabinet size and that makes a difference. The little Princeton can’t compete with the AC15... but a recording or bedroom level it would outshine the Vox. I don’t have either. I play a ‘87 Fender Studio 85 red knob solid state. Superb cleans and loud as heck. I sold my other amps because I was spending too much time noodling with amps and dialing in the “perfect” tone instead of playing music.

  • @ChrisJimenez2010
    @ChrisJimenez2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Seems like you normally use a lot of bass, remember that the Vox has an interactive EQ. When you have the bass on full you're cutting a lot of the mids out. And a Vox is basically mids and treble. The bass on half all the way to full isn't much difference anyways. I've had mine for about 3 years now and I'd say optimum is treble at 11 o clock and bass at 1 o clock

    A vox won't have nearly the bass as many other amps, and I think that's partially why the breakup is so nice on them. Your pedals need to be completely readjusted when swapping between amps as well. Finally, you don't need to go deaf to get the tone. Drop that volume a bit!

    • @chriskucholtz6967
      @chriskucholtz6967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, actually you can use the top boost volume/ eq on the normal channel. It doesn't have a huge effect, but it does change the sound. In the normal channel, the volume of the top boost effects how much of a difference the bass and treble affect the normal channel. Look it up "AC15 hack".

    Playing solo? Fender. In a band? Vox. Or, get both for a wet/dry set up, personally if I were doing that I'd get a deluxe reverb instead for clean headroom on those wet signals

    is the Princeton the 65 ri or 68 ri ? the 65 ri is usually biased hotter as it is needed for the tremolo to sound its best. also tube swaps are really noticable with the 65 ri. the ac15 sounds best clean to me. i think both amps have an internal reverb gain adjustment (handy if you want to try different tube types for the reverb). i know for sure that the Princeton ri tremolo sounds dramatically different as you alter the bias. thanks for the cool comparison.

    • @60CycleHumcast

    I didn't hear you say anything about speakers. The Vox comes with a 12, the Princeton can come with either 10 or 12. Even is size is the same they still don't have the same type of speakers. I have a 12" Princeton. It takes an overdrive pedal supremely.

    I have the opportunity to buy either a Vox ac15c1 or a Vox ac30s1 for the same price. I know the 30 is more vox for the money but the 15 sounds so good. Im leaning towards the 15 but it nags me that for the same price i could have a 30. Anybody have experience with the 30? Also in the beginning of this vid the princeton sounded brighter to me.

    • @peopledonotexist
      @peopledonotexist 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the 30 is not good for home use. you aren’t gonna get as good of a sound if you have to turn it down. the only time you get the best sound is performing in a relatively large venue or outdoor venue. if your performing indoors at a small-medium venue then the 15 is probably a better choice

    Ryan, you mentioned that although you like the sound of both amps rigged together it is an "ungiggable rig" for you. Why not? There has to be a way to mic up a two-amp rig in any gig setting without driving a sound man crazy...

  • @KelsterVonShredster

    The Princeton RI is meh at best; if you want to hear a great modern sounding amp, I highly recommend the Fedner Supersonic. The clean channel is superb (especially with "Fat" button engaged) and the "Burn" channel is great once you know how to dial in the cascading gain. I've owned quite a few Fenders over the years and so far, it's my favorite Fender. Super flexible, perfect gigging amp.

      It helps to not have the amps aimed at my head, and I make the full volume parts pretty short and rare.
