I’m so grateful for your summaries and reviews! The way you describe everything is fluid, concise, and gives me the exact context I look for. Most “reviews” i find just end up being retellings with recycled opinions. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I truly love your video set up and critical thoughts 😊🫶🏼
Sir-See i thinkkkkk is how it’s pronounced, but regardless- love that book ! It remains my favorite Greek mythological retelling and my introduction to that genre 📚🪱💚
Love Lessons in Chemistry! Def worth the hype. It's creative and I personally love Elizabeth's character. It has themes that are important to talk about. It was just too bittersweet when it ended. 😭
Yay!!! I’ve been anticipating this video ever since your latest release. I’m bumping up The will of the many on my TBR for sure! I’ve been seeing it around way too many times now and seeing it featured here on your video is just the push I needed 😂
omg that's so sweet thank you for watching! Yes definitely prioritize The Will of the Many if you can - and if it's feeling a bit slow in the beginning, here's your encouragement to power through because it gets SO good
My husband really loves the Mistborn series and it seems right up your alley based on the books in this video! ❤ (I have really bad taste or I’d suggest something I liked 😅)
I've heard such good things about the Mistborn series, it's definitely pretty high up on my list! And I don't believe you have bad taste, haha!! If you like what you like, then that's enough. :)
Babel 💃🏻 I loved it so much. The relationship between Robin and Dr Lovell was so frustrating to me, and its end took me off guard. Best book I read last year.
Once again, I agree!! Especially on Tomorrow x3, loved it so much. Didn’t love Circe but I loved The Song of Achilles. I need to read The Will of the Many, it sounds so good!! Other books I think are worth the hype: any Brandon Sanderson book (I’m obsessed), Seven Days in June, Six of Crows, Fourth Wing, I’m Glad My Mom Died, The House in the Cerulean Sea, Daisy Jones and The Six, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue! And many others probably, haha
I’m going to start reading The Will of the Many because of your recommendation. I had no idea it was going to be around 800 pages though! Definitely daunting…
The author of If We Were Villains is an English graduate who did a master in Shakespeare Studies and her PhD had something to do with Shakespeare as well, she’s also a thespian so definitely knows a lot about it from both an academic and stage pov. I think an author who only enjoys his plays and has no formal studies in the matter could definitely make this book feel shallow, but her understanding being a lot deeper makes Shakespeare a much greater part of it than just throwing in some lines. There’s a lot to do with structure and psyche as well. I find that I greatly enjoy when an author has an academic background in the themes of the books they write, it just feels much deeper than mentioning it in passing. Of course research is a thing and not every author needs to have a PhD to approach something, but you can definitely see the difference when it goes beyond surface level interest.
My first Taylor Jenkins Reid book was After I Do, it is my fav book of the year so far. I’m excited to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Finally adding Tomorrow x3, The Will of the Many & If We Were Villains to my TBR
I'm one of those peeps that LOVED Circe ❤ Other books that are known but maybe not hyped up as much -- Pineapple Stree by Jenny Jackson, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See, Lock Every Door by Riley Sager, This House is Haunted by John Boyne (this one is great for the spooky season and super easy to read)
I'm gonna have to give Divine Rivals and The Will of the Many a try. Sounds interesting! And I think the same way about Circe; I didn't love it but understand why people do. The books that I think are worth the hype are Alone With You In The Ether by Olivie Blake because of it's unique take on love and philosophical themes and My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh for its commentary on existential nihilism and critique on superficial society. And yes please on a part 2! :)
I don’t know much about what is hyped or not hyped, but I do know I was not expecting how incredible Divine Rivals was either! I haven’t read RV yet though. As for books I’d really love to put on your radar, have you looked into Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff? It’s a thick one, but the world building, the characters, and the prose are… insanely incredible. Super high intensity though! ❤😂 (And I love to hear more about books you think are over-hyped/under-hyped!)
Yes Divine Rivals was so great! I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. I haven't read Empire of the Vampire, but I love the way you describe it and will definitely look into it!
@@olivesbooknook I’m so curious to know why the sequel let you down so much! Also, if you ever do get to reading Empire of the Vampire (bear in mind it is a trilogy with book three not out yet), I’d love to see your thought, whether it ends up in good or bad! Even the method for HOW Jay Kristoff gives us the story is so new and impressive. Fascinating!
I forgot all about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, you just reminded me to buy it! hahaha. Ive been wanting to read it for a while now! also, seven husbands of Evelyn has been in my TBR for so long, I really need to sit down and read it asap! lol
Nice video, thanks a lot. I watched it straight away after your "overhyped books". Like your recommendations here. I read "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" and I loved it. The other ones I didn't know yet. I will check if they are available in Brazil. Best wishes from a German in São Paulo. ... subscription goes out :)
I want to read a story, having a love triangle with both equally good love interests. The female lead is very insecure, and she loves the main lead and vice versa. The second leads also live selflessly but she never notices his pure love. There should be suspense and mystery. Any suggestions?
Unfortunately, my least favorite plot mechanic/trope of all time is a love triangle, so I typically avoid them at all costs and don’t really have a suggestion for you (except like, twilight and hunger games lol). But maybe someone else in the comments can help!
I’m surprised how many of these I’ve read! I loved If We Were Villains (5⭐️) and Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (4.75⭐️). I thought Circe was solid (3.5⭐️). Tomorrow x3 was overhyped and disappointing to me (2.75⭐️).
I think you’re spot on! I’ve read every single book you’ve showcased here and I’m still looking for something like Tomorrow and Tomorrow and tomorrow! I think One Dark Window is also rightfully hyped I loved it!
I saw that the author mentioned it's pronounced Kirky in Greek, but she usually calls it "ser-see" as most americans do! Either way, I'm wrong on BOTH counts 🤣
Hi I just found your channel and love your videos! If you ever think about some very different video ideas.. I don't know If you have a lot of German fans, but in Germany we have a lot of funny book covers, very different from the original book covers. It would be fun to see you rate the covers. 😄💛
@@olivesbooknook I came up with the idea, because of the stunning book cover of divine rivals, because our version is just so different, also with the acotar series!
You're absolutely right :) I did a little digging and the author said that in Greek it is pronounced Kirky but she pronounces it Sirsee because that's more along the way many Americans would pronounce is and she likes to keep it a bit more accessible to the general audience.
Haha, I’ve heard lots of different ways in these comments! Seems like Sir-see is the Americanized way that the Greeks would pronounce it. “Kirky” (which is wild). Either way, I was wrong lol
I have to disagree about If We Were Villains. It was really hard for me to find sympathy for the characters considering most of them are rich privileged white kids. The main character was selfish to get mad at his parents because they couldn’t afford to pay for his college anymore and didn’t take seriously his sister’s eating disorder. The author was also sexualizing the main love interest while she was complaining about how she hates it.
I guess I didn't really see it that way during my read-through, and I think those flaws increased my appreciation for how complex she was writing these characters to be. But I appreciate your perspective!
Definitely Cir-cee. Sir-see or sir-sea. 2 syllables
The comments seem to be pretty divided on “Kirky” or “Sir-see” - either way, I’m wrong lol. But it’ll certainly be hard to break the habit.
The Greek spelling is 'Kirke' from 'Kirkos' meaning 'Hawk'.
I'm just distracted with Pedro. 😅
Hahaha I was hoping someone would notice
aren't we all?

“Divine Rivals” sounds loosely similar to the plot of the old movie “The Shop Around the Corner”.

In Greek, you correctly pronounce her name as in "Kirky"! 😊
