Glad you posted a video on this.I had to do the same thing many years ago with the Gibraltar riser on my 18in kicks.I eventually found some nice 3/8in x1in x 3/8 nylon spacer washers in hardware store that work well also.We would think that the makers of these type risers would address this problem. Thanks again for posting this for all
Thanks so much for this! I’ve put a RTOM Black Hole practice head on the front of mine and need to extend my riser plate by quite a bit now to get the pedal on.
The best solution in drum lifters is the Arty Dixon bass drum lifter. Not every pedal can go with that metal type of lifters. On some ocasions cutting the bass drum hoop is the only solution. Which is something I'd never do to my 16" Collectors kick. That's why the ONE and ONLY thing which works perfect in that scenario is the dw cradle-lifter, the one Terry Bozzio used years back for all his bass drums. It's pricey but it's worth it.
My pleasure. It was the only thing about the kit I didn't like, but for the price?? I'll make an adapter. LOL! It's worked great since. Thank you so much for watching.
Would you be able to make a video of the complete process of adding this to the kick drum? I am having difficulty understanding / visualizing how to set it up - and confused about keeping the kick pedal on the ground.
I posted an up close picture for you on my Facebook Drum Page. Hope it helps. m.facebook.com/ksharrettsdrummer/?ref=bookmarks&soft=composer#!/ksharrettsdrummer/?ref=bookmarks
Kenny, Thanks for all your great tips, and videos. As per this video, I think I would have found it more informative if the camera were closer the the riser. It's just a little difficult seeing all the steps from the wide angle, whereas a close-up would have been more instructive. Thanks again.
Hey Kenny, thanks for all the Breakbeats videos! I'm working on tuning them now...not as easy as you make it look...I'm chasing my tail! Great job though, and thanks again. I wanted to ask you, is it OK if the beater hits the bass drum head PAST parallel? Like about a good inch and a half past parallel. I'm using a Ludwig Atlas standard pedal with the riser that came with the kit. I also have a Pearl Eliminator I'm converting to belt drive, but I really dig this inexpensive little bass pedal for now and will be using it.
+Lee Asbury I'm glad you find the videos helpful. The main thing with your pedal is that it feels good when you play it. An inch doesn't seem too much although if it affects the throw too much try sliding the pedal a hair more forward.
+Kenny Sharretts thanks. It's as far forward as it will go without the beater shaft contacting the hoop at this point though. It feels pretty good but, I think if I were closer to parallel with the beater, I'd be able to use the rebound from the head for quick double hits easier. BTW, I happened to have an Aquarian Super Kick II 16" head laying around and it sounds amazing! I'm not sure why I had it...but glad I did.
Man without the riser there is not much you can do. My friend has his setup without the riser for his young son and even when shortening the beater ya can't hit center.
hey Kenny, i cant seem to get the foot petal bracket to align the beater in the center of the bass drum, it doesn't make sense the way they made it. is yours aligned in the center?
hey Kenny, i think i have the solution to the bass drum pedal bracket, i could be wrong, but i believe the bottom plate of the two was bent backwards. if you separate them and flip the bottom plate 180 deg. it looks like that was the intended way for it to be used. now the pedal attaches properly in the groove and its offset to the left! which aligns the beater to the center. I'm bringing mine to work tomorrow , heating it up and bending it 180deg. i believe that will fix all the issues. what ya think ?
@@ghd1959 this is the exact thing that happened to my pedal before I made this modification, and hence the video. The drag is you still have to cheat the pedal off of the riser just a smidge, and I do mean smidge. The Swivomatic has that full plate as you said. I’d have to have one handy to know for sure what to do. Have you made the modification I demonstrated?
Makes no sense to me that this riser doesn’t work as is. How did Breakbeats not come up with a better solution knowing full well this thing wouldn’t work as is??
They did. They made the riser better after this first Gen riser. This is simply the solution I came up with to mod mine to fit my needs. It’s worked like a charm for years. 🤘🏻
Dude, just set this up for my kid brother. This vid was an INVALUABLE resource. You rock!
That makes me so happy to hear. Merry Christmas kid brother. Merry Christmas big brother. 🤗👍👍🙏🙏💯
Such an elegant solution! Thank you kind sir.
My pleasure. Thank you for the kind words. Please subscribe if you wish. 🤗
Been a subscriber for a while chief...! :)

Thank you for helping me make this fix with my breakbeats kit!
James Westervelt my pleasure. Thank you so much for watching. As my theme song says, please like, share, and subscribe. 🙏
Thanks for this valuable tip Kenny.
My pleasure Mike. It’s a solution that has worked well for me since I made the modifications. I hope it’s the same for you.
I appreciate this video Kenny. It has been very helpful. Thanks.
Awesome. Thanks for watching.

Yeah this helps with a black hole for sure. Much better than the plate they send.

Awesome! That is what I love to hear. Success!!! Drum on my brother.
Great info. Thanks for the tip!
+Jessica Hancock My pleasur. There are tons on my channel so please watch. I hope you find them helpful.
Really greatfull for this video. I have fought that I am nuts trying to reach out what am I doing wrong. Really sloppy Ludwig solution. Thx

seacaptaindw alas I learned as I went. I was lucky to even have a camerawomen that day. Lol! Next time more closeups 🤘🏻 Thx for the kind words.
I completely trust you on this thanks!
Thank you. I’ve used this hack for 5 years on gig after gig, and it still is holding strong. Thank you for watching, and commenting.

hey Kenny, i cant seem to get the foot petal bracket to align the beater in the center of the bass drum, it doesn't make sense the way they made it. is yours aligned in the center?
southern outdoor life yeah. 😢I know. Lol. For it to truly fit right things are off center. I’m close but it is what it is. Ez in ez out!! 😂😂😂😂
Thanks bro yr the man.
Brent Tanoa Thank you so much.

I think that is a pretty intense solution that may damage the plate, , but please let me know how it goes.
hey kenny what size were the nuts you ended up using?
I can't remeber off hand but I went down to Home Depot, and simply matched the nuts to the Ludwig Bolt. Next Time I'm there I will check and post.
Any idea how to utilize an old rogers Swivomatic bass drum pedal with a drum riser?
What is the issue you are encountering?
@@KennySharretts Rogers uses that plate that attaches to the rim and then the pedal l
Locks onto it but the strap is on top of the hoop.

@@KennySharretts yeah I did that awhile back...it sits on end of riser with no tightness.
just noticed my bracket is different than yours
LOL Too funny. Good luck on it. It's been a difficulty for a ton of folks.
It's Ernest
Completely. For some reason when doing these videos I end up channeling my inner Earnest. Lol.
hey kenny, are most pedals compatible with the riser and kick drum that you know of?

How about Ludwig just fixes the fucking problem by now?!
Rich Stevens lol 😂 they have made a new riser so it works better now. This is for those who got earlier models.
