That's so true. As soon as Blu-ray and streaming came out, DVD releases started going downhill in quality. Like you said, we were just forced to be happy with what little we got and accept that. But then they didn't even switch to Blu-ray releases. They just gave up completely on so many releases
All the effort goes into 4Ks and Blu-rays. I usually import mine from Japan, anime or otherwise. They put more care into packaging and on-disc content design, and give bonus goods, like how Japanese Marvel 4Ks come with complementary 3D and Blu-ray copies, plus gifts like mugs.
The First 100 Episodes is one of the highest quality sets I’ve had experience with personally. Unique menus for each disc with exclusive bonus features.
@@doofusdan_ it's a fantastic set but sadly it's been ruined for me because of the Simpsons and Futurama sets having even more going for them: deleted scenes, extras, and commentaries on every episode rather than a few select s5 episodes (as great as those are) but it's definitely up there for me, it's an amazing set

@@pantyosashu8137what’s so bad about using numbers like if you’re afraid of the algorithm hating numbers for some reason use Roman numerals or write them out.
I'm sick of companies producing piss poor physical media. There's no reason why standard def DVD's are still a thing. It literally cost pennies on a dollar to buy a blu-ray player nowadays. Blu-ray discs can hold a lot more space and preserve the overal quality of the footage. Not to mention it minimizes the amount of discs companies have to produce. Hence allowing you to preserve more shelf space in your collection. People shouldn't have to deal with this anymore.
It’s really frustrating seeing companies insist it’s the most viable format. The argument used to be that dvds were far more accessible since not everyone had a blu-ray player. With your point that blu-ray players are rather cheap now they really don’t have an excuse anymore.
@@doofusdan_ I know right? It reminds me when NCircle tried to use that BS excuse when fans told them that they'd much rather have the Sonic SATAM series in standard definition on Blu-Ray.
I own all three shows on DVD. They have their own problems episodes are out of order, etc but it should be noted that this is the only show that has Blu-ray the other two Ninja Turtles shows DVD only
Personally I prefer DVD due to being able to run on basically anything with a disc drive released passed 2001, as well as easy to rip. I think companies should give the option for bluray, but DVD it makes sense for a kids show like this, it's cheaper and works on more, i just wish they put slightly more effort into making them easier to watch one after the other here
@@doofusdan_You mentioned it being the last few episodes. I heard somewhere that the last few episodes were actually ran out of order by Nickelodeon and not how the people that made the show intended for it to be watched. So maybe they arranged it back?
@@ethanwayne6973 yeah the last arc of the show in the production order was the mutant apocalypse arc, but nickelodeon didn't want the series finale to be that dark so they made the 3-part crossover with the '87 turtles (wanted: bebop & rocksteady) to be the series finale lol. they did swap it back in the box set which is super interesting
From what I’ve gathered a lot of DBZ on home media has issues. I know there was a fan restoration recently of GT as I guess the dvd colors were completely inaccurate
@doofusdan_ to make a long story short for the z home media releases The dvd singles are the best way to watch the show even if the first 17 volumes are English only and are censored (remember this is the ocean dub). The orange bricks are terrible and unfortunately gaslighted every casual fan into thinking it was this 16:9 overly saturated and blindingly bright show. The dragon box set is a fan favorite despite the colors being degraded and the sound effects being a bit off time unfortunately this set is stupid expensive to own now. The level up blu ray is amazing as it's a good hd scan of the show unfortunately it was canceled only two volumes in. The blu ray season sets are somehow even worse than the orange bricks as not only is it cropped to 16:9 again the cropping is worse as its cuts off more stuff from the top and bottom the video quality is worse than the dvds. The steel books are awful as it's just the blu ray season sets but without the cropping and they didn't even do that correctly as not only was it advertised like it's something people should look forward to, it's not even the correct aspect ratio so it's somehow worse
The Rugrats complete series is worse. There are 26 discs with the same packaging style and there is no episode list. Companies these days are being lazy with releasing stuff on physical media
god the second you showed how the discs have to be removed i immediately thought "those are gonna accidentally snap one day" so happy to hear that is a worry regarding packaging and not just me being paranoid youre not expected to baby the discs like i did as a kid after i noticed how flexible they were lol
I hate when dvd companies won't include a guide to what episodes are on what disc. If I want to watch an entire series and stop at at some point, I have to look up a guide to figure out what disc I left off on.
@@VaniRoyalDisagree, I got the SU Season 5 on dvd and not Blu Ray on accident, and the video and audio quality was clearly worse. (side note, hate the packaging for Season 5, it came out quite late, and it didn't follow the same look, with the previous four featuring a Crystal Gem, with the one before being Ruby - that character's gem stone, and images featuring them in, five clearly should have been Sapphire, but is a generic image of the Crystal Gems, that is wrong for the season). Blu Rays can hold more information, so the packaging issues experienced here wouldn't be as much as of an issue. (which Xbox do you have btw? Xbox Ones can play Blu-Rays)
Have to admit that I really liked the box itself of the SpongeBob set. Because since is a little bulky it remind me the boxes of a VHS tape, lol. But the TMNT one..., that was a monstrosity.
Hahaha, the click sound grosses you out!! I get what you mean, though, I broke a Psych DVD where they stack more on one little thingy haha🤦♀ It was my favorite disk too😭
Already hated this box set (bought it last year and was so disappointed by the discs and their order). You did convince me to pick up those Spongebob sets though.
As much as I enjoyed the 2012 series as an adult when it came out, I can't help but agree with all of your points here. Physical preservation is important but Nickelodeon treating the TMNT franchise like dirt is so sad.
Nick should've give this show and others to Shout! Factory! Their DVD releases of Jimmy Neutron, Angry Beavers, Wild Thornberry's, CatDog and their out-of-print versions of Rocko's Modern Life and Hey Arnold felt like they are made with love and care with stuff like reliable packaging and disc art. Paramount used to do a good job on Nick DVDs until the mid to late 2000s where the quality is slipping. I still have the mental scars from the SpongeBob Next 100 Episodes DVDs lazily reusing data from the season 6 - 9 sets instead doing what they did with the First 100 Episode box set and make new data.
@@briskdarthmaul I got a few of Shout’s box sets and they’re pretty high quality. Really hope they get the license to more Nicktoons, would love for My Life as a Teenage Robot specifically to get a set.
Me too its really unfortunate how they're doing this for every box set at this point its the exact same way for the another 100 episodes set and still didn't add kwarantined krab
@@doofusdan_ Each disc has episodes written on them. But no indication of what season it is. The quality of the episodes (in terms of picture presentation) varies in quality. From being no better than the TH-cam uploads of the 2003 show. To being a decent clean up of the episodes. Plus, the 2009 Turtles Forever movie included in the box set. Is the standard release of the movie. When there is a version of the movie. That adds ten extra minutes. That greatly increases the quality of the movie.
@doofusdan_ Oldman is right. There's no separation between seasons with each of the 03 discs, so the start of season 2 will be on the same disc as the end of season 1. There also isn't any sort of episode guide in the case like what is in the 2012 case. The only thing you get is what you see on the outside cover, and then plain grey discs with "Episodes 1-9", Episodes 10-18" etc. on each disc. The discs will probably be loose in that dogshit case as well. I've put every individual disc into their own cases because of that. The last episode of the show also uses the censored version, and Turtles Forever isn't the extended cut, and is actually a trimmed down version from the standalone home video release. So it's basically an even shorter version of the short version of the movie, which is crazy. The 03 set was even more of a lazy box set than the 2012 one. There are other issues as well like the inconsistentpicture quality that Oldman mentioned (it didn't really bother me too much, though, but one would expect it to be better than it is), but at least every episode of the show is finally available on DVD, so it's worth it if you value actually owning physical media. However, don't expect something stellar. No joke, I've seen bootleg box sets that are better quality and more lovingly put together than the "official" release. Unfortunately, it's simply a quick cash grab, and another "fuck you" to the 03 TMNT fans. It was thrown out just so they can say "There. You got it. Shut up now." The fact that it isn't available in stores like Walmart should tell you everything. It's only available online.
@@oldman5247 I haven't picked this set up yet. I likely will at some point when it is on a good sale. I mainly want it for the Back to the Sewer episodes. I have the previous DVD releases from years ago. While the episodes are out of order on some of the sets, from what I understand the quality is better overall (more on that in a bit). But regarding the order of the episodes on this new complete series set, and how the seasons break down, me being the nerd I am when it comes to these things, and here is what I figured out: Discs 1-13 add up to Seasons 1-5. The discs are not separate by season (meaning one season ends and the next starts in the middle of the same disc), BUT these are the seasons that were when the show was simply titled TMNT. Discs 14-16 are all of Season 6 and the first episode of Season 7, or in other words, all of Fast Forward. Even though Season 7 is the "Back to the Sewer" season, the first episode picks up when they are still in the future and still uses the FF intro. So like I said, it is all of FF. Discs 17 and 18 are the rest of Season 7 (back to the sewer) and Turtles Forever. While it does stink that these are not properly separated by seasons, it is at least nice that they are separated by when the show changes title. If someone wanted to move the discs into better cases than what this comes in, and make/print custom covers, they could separate them by the title changes and in the case of season 1-5, just give them volume numbers if multiple cases are needed. From what I understand, Turtles Forever on this set is TERRIBLE. Supposedly the video quality is really bad, and it is even more cut up than the previous Paramount/Nickelodeon DVD release of it (which was already the TV version and not the extended cut). So if you get this set, it is highly advised to still get either the stand along release of Turtles Forever, or import the UK DVD which is the extended version (but is region locked). One this that disappoints me about this release (and is part of why I haven't gotten it yet and I'm wait for a REALLY GOOD sale), and is becoming far too common of a problem with old tv shows released on DVD these days, is that while the show is of course 4:3, the DVD itself is formatted to be 16:9, which the black bars on the sides of the screen being an embedded part of the image. This may not seem like a big deal when watching on a modern TV, but it does result in a lower quality image than having it properly formatted at 4:3 on the disc, and then letting the equipment (TV, player) add in the black bars. Plus I still have some old 4:3 CRT TVs that I use for retro gaming, and sometimes I may watch an old TV show DVD on them. Having these formatted in this way screws that up, adding black bars to the top and bottom, and basically making the show be a small square in the middle of the screen surrounded by black on all sides.
@@ChaseMC215 really bummed with how 87 has been treated on home media. I’ve considered making a video on it but several others have already talked about it
I can confirm a couple episodes in the Season 1 and 2 discs are out of order with each other (According to the Paramount+ order). So if those are out of order, then the rest probably are too. This isn’t the first time, they’ve butchered something like this. TMNT Forever’s DVD release especially was just sad.
You’d think they’d stack less sense they could fit more on each disc but the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul sets say otherwise. At least in those sets since they’re blu-ray they are less likely to get scratched.
I know that they probably couldn't have had the disc names on the paper since it wouldn't be able to fit, but they should have, at the very least, replaced the disc numbers on the paper with abbreviations of the disc names. That way it would be at least somewhat clear what disc has what episodes.
If I had that set, I would get a Sharpie (Permanent Marker) and write a number on each and every disc and put them in those DVD book things and have the list of episodes put in with them. Sure it doesn't sound like a good idea, but it sure beats doing all those tedious tasks that you went through.
As a big fan of TMNT since the '87 cartoon and the first four movies (Micheal Bay ones are 50/50 for me), I enjoy the 2012 series and own every individual set on dvd, not a fan of the newer stuff.
You could always number the discs with a Sharpie, not ideal but at least they would be numbered. Of course that only fixes one of the many problems with the set lol
@@doofusdan_ i just got the new season 25 set this weekend! I love the packaging and special features that come with it, the new set has updated effects for every episode... 🤯
I collected the TMNT 2012 DVDs as they were being released. I had to use a Sharpie to write the season and disk number on each disk to make sure I was able to identify them and keep them in order.
As a fan of the 2003 show i was pretty hyped when I saw this for 20$ and I was very excited to watch it, only to be very disappointed once I realized the discs weren't numbered and I needed a guide on what order to watch it in. It's also a little disappointing anytime you get the boring grey discs but I wasn't expecting more with how cheap it was.
I have two box sets like this. This series and the complete series of rugrats. I absolutely hate this style of packaging. Right out of the gate they come heavily scratched and looked used because the discs are stacked and rubbing on top of one another. There’s absolutely no reason for this kind of release.
It’s a really frustrating experience as in theory it’s the best way to quickly obtain the entirety of these shows but the quality of the packaging says otherwise
I'm not too fond of this DVD box format for any show. They cram the discs tightly over top each other where you're forced to extract a few in order to find the proper one where you last left off at, increasing the chances of wear and tear, and are generally unreliable as protective storage with the discs constantly jangling. It's also not uncommon to find some top discs tumbling out of their holds every time you either first open the box or turn an interior section.
I had that problem for the first time starting in 2018 when I got CBS' all-in-one DVD of The Streets of San Francisco (that 70s ABC police procedural from Quinn Martin w/Malden, Douglas and Hatch); at first, I didn't know what I was dealing with, so I had to take it slow and get used to it. I had much the same problems you're describing w/having to keep discs in order, albeit I did finish the show (other shows I had to deal with that on have been that hit 50s and 60s CBS B/W Western Have Gun Will Travel w/Richard Boone; the original 50s and 60s B/W Untouchables series that was on ABC w/Robert Stack as Eliot Ness; and the 70s NBC hit medical/action series Emergency! from Universal [all of those, I have completed]).
Bought this for my nephew he finished watching all the episodes they had on Netflix. When i got this i thought it be a breeze but cant even tell were your supposed to start and end this needs a re release
The Battlestar Galactica reboot DVD sets were apparently pretty bad about packaging as you had to be pretty forceful to remove the DVDs from the case which led to some people accidentally damaging them.
I think one of the worst cases I've ever owned was a special edition Halo 5 case. It's bulkier to hold the bonuses, but the latches were fragile. The spindle also held onto the game disc for dear life, as if it was warning you how awful Halo 5 was going to be. It also came with my mortal enemy; Box Sleeves.
Whoever thought of stacking discs together is straight up evil. Stacking discs makes them more susceptible to scratches. And it's sickening. One of the reasons I skipped the Batman 4 movie collection.
worst part was the discs were in super stiff tall disc holders that felt like if I didn't take it slow, I could break a disc, plus I needed to keep out each set of 4 discs in order so I could watch it, I binged the series and loved it but I've seen a case of similar style done better without stiffness, Harry Potter 8 disc set had normal disc holders, didn't stack the discs, but it increased the amount of normal disc holders and pages to fit the discs in a safe manner
Seems like TMNT and physical media muck ups are a common thing, with all the episodes being out of order and such, it’s almost like a joke at this point.
Truthfully, I bought this just to have it so I haven't really cracked it open. Same with the 2003 series one where I was just happy to finally have the full show physically. Usually if I'm getting a box set it's just for convenience, since I have most streaming services and would opt to rewatch the shows that way, the box set is just in the event said show gets removed for any reason. Plus I had the 87 box set (not the new one they announced recently) and wanted the other two shows (not a Rise fan but hope fans of it get a box set that has effort put in)
@@LeopoldLitchenstein at this point my SpongeBob sets are just in the event they get removed from Prime as the digital versions look much cleaner than the dvds
@doofusdan_ I actually don't have the SpongeBob compilations because I want to wait for a full box set. I'll be waiting forever I know, but still. Might go for First 100 and Next 100 secondhand at some point
I recently bought a Beavis and Butthead complete collection set and it literally SUCKED. It was missing a ton of episodes and the episodes were just the Mike Judge Collection.
I used to put DVDs in jewel cases for easier reachablility instead of opening dvd box sets each time, but now it seems like a thing I'm gonna have to do by default due to the stupid inneficient way the boxes keep discs nowadays. I'd recommend printing custom made dvd box arts over using them the way they come by default...😒
Omg they didn’t give the discs new art!? Not even throw on some number stickers… this is my favorite TMNT series so it might still be worth it to pick it up and just make my own disc art and print it out.
I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND. My Columbo Boxset has at the very least numbered discs, but the four discs to a sleeve is still present. And Very evil !! The case feels like I might snap the disc every time I have to do the math to find the episode I want ( there isn’t any guide that tells you what episode is on what disc. by the way. ) Update as I’m writing this comment: I TOOK OUT MY BOXSET TO CHECK. It Does have a list of the episodes, but it fucking !! It does the same thing the tmnt 2012 boxset does where there’s discs on the inside that are covering the list of episodes !! So I just straight up didn’t know, I don’t rewatch season one of the show very often, and I literally opened the second dvd case for the first time to check that one too, because I don’t rewatch seasons 5-7 very often either. It’s also extremely difficult to take out the discs, which feels like. Really shitty. Cause I feel like the larger audience that might be buying this boxset nowadays are older people that liked the show when they were younger, who might not have amazing hand strength anymore. Making it so extremely difficult to take out the discs is just doing a disservice to your Main customer demographic !! And same with the tmnt boxset, their demographic is kids, and kids are just generally uncoordinated and might still be building grip strength. At least the spongebob one is well put together, but Man. I really wish more care and thought were out into these designs
The Sopranos box set is very similar, it’s very frustrating having to take out 3 discs to get to the other 3, as well as covering the box’s disc numbering. Thankfully the discs themselves are numbered so still better than this lol.
I bought a huge DVD set of Universal Monsters. The case is the same size as that TMNT case but some of the disks were hard to take off and some fell out of the case So I returned it and got a 6 movie collection instead
I personally prefer this way of arranging the disks. With my spongebob and jimmy neutron collections, the discs are ALWAYS falling out. Yes, the discs are a bit harder to access here, but at least they wont fall out. But yeah, the fact that the discs aren't conveniently labeled is lame.
This would drive me insane. The state of physical media is very sad. Though I don maintain hope that we are currently at the lowest right now and it can only grow. I liken it to music it took a while but the music industry eventually realised that streaming does not generate enough profit and so they eventually turned to special editions and collectors stuff in the case of music that was the surprise revival of Vinyl. I expect the same thing will happen with television and movies and we will start seeing more steal books and other special editions for collectors. We have to hit the slump first tho. On the plus side Paramount while releasing these disastrous things for Nick they are also one of the only streaming services that release its original series on 4k Blu Ray consistently.
My version of the complete TMNT 2012 dvd set didn't have the Return to NYC disc and instead gave me another copy of Super Shredder disc 1. I've been trying to find other ways of watch those episodes on Return to nyc, but I've come empty handed. Paramount plus and Netflix only had seasons 1 and 2 avaliable, meaning that Return to nyc is part of season 3, and I don't have the money to buy them digitally. But I want to buy them digitally, because like you said, I like having a physical copy of that movie or show on my shelf that I can just put on whenever I feel like it.
For what it’s worth, since all of the discs are just earlier individual releases, you could probably find the OG release of Return to NYC to finish the set
I feel like the design of the Avatar/Legend of Korra Blu-Rays is worse, if only because it not only risks destroying your discs, but can cause actual physical harm to unsuspecting viewers. They don't even include an episode list (which would be pretty handy for an episodic show), and the case has the opposite problem, where the discs essentially sit on short pegs, meaning that if you don't put the set on a table like a book, you have a very high chance of dropping *multiple* discs on their edge, where they will end up rolling to who-knows-where, or potentially crack on impact, ruining the set before you even have a chance to watch the first disc. The discs will also just rattle around in the case, which while not terrible because they are scratch resistant, still isn't ideal. They also haven't edited episodes in any way from what I can tell. Unrelated episodes that aired together (The Serpents Pass and The Drill, for instance) on TV are still listed as the same episode on the box set, just stitched together into a 44 minute blob with a title card in between. Not to mention the intense flashing that really strains your eyes during lightning bending, especially in LoK Book 1, I have to wonder how they got past legal without an epilepsy warning at the start.
As someone who's owned that SpongeBob set for years now and not even used it as much as I'd like to because of how much I hate the case design, hearing it compared positively to this set in the beginning just filled me with a massive sense of impending dread. EDIT: And now I'm seeing the actual case design. Where's my barf bag?
I have this box set because I didn’t want to pay for paramount + to watch the series and I can say it was a ABSOLUTE PAIN to figure out as a first time watcher. I think I even accidentally skipped a disc the first time I watched and got supper confused.
I recently got a Star Trek: The Original Series set that's packaged the same way (same production company, Paramount), although at least for that the discs say "season one, disc two" and whatnot. Yeah it doesn't do discs 1-20 or whatever, the disc count resets with each season. This set is still much worse though. I'm worried about the spindles too but I plan on ripping the discs to my computer and not really using the set outside of that, so I can live with it.
I have 2 South Park DVD boxsets, and oh my lord, the case is god awful! Each side isn't labelled, and the disc holders easily fall off. The way the discs are layered can cause scratches and more. I wish I got the Blu-ray, but HMV only had them on DVD...
I think these were the original random episode compilation disc because I remember grabbing DVDs with the name of rise of the Turtles and enter shredder as individual DVDs(edit because I didn’t get this far before I know it apparently didn’t have decency to just like sharpie on the numbers for the disk at a bare minimum)
I'm surprised you didn't call out that the SpongeBob discs are colorful and each associated with a character, making them easy to tell apart at a glance and making them all look varied, while TMNT all has blank, boring silver text on silver background, making it not just hard to figure out which disc is which, but also making it very hard to read and just all blend together into one visual mess.
Isn't that Ninja Turtles set also missing a couple episodes? Or have censored ones? I remember reading something about that when I considered buying it.
Much like I said about the box set for the 2003 show I think when a show is *THIS* lengthy releasing it in 1 huge box set probably isn’t a good idea, because with the amount of discs it has it’s gonna be crowded as shit, to the point where they actually had to resort to stacking them on top of one another, which I think everyone hates, plus why not just make things easier by labeling them like “Season 1 disc 1, disc 2” yadda yadda yadda, giving them chapter names makes them so confusing to organize, I thought about taking the time to put them in order but after hearing how they’re organized I don’t even think I wanna try anymore, much like with the 2003 show I think what they should’ve done is just release each season as an individual dvd, that I think would’ve been much better, as a physical media guy I am glad to have the show physically but yeah, kinda disappointed with how it turned out
There probably is a point to make regarding cramming a whole show in a single set although I think some of those problems could be avoided if it was on blu-ray
@ I guarantee it would’ve been better on Blu Ray, because Blu Ray doesn’t believe in crappy packaging with box sets like stacking discs on top of each other, double sided discs etc. like dvds do, if this was on Blu Ray I’m certain it would’ve been much better put together, they probably would’ve split them up by season but like I said I think that would’ve been much better for a series this long
I don't own the TMNT 2012 Set but a set I hate and can speak from experience is the ren & stimpy almost complete series because the DVD's fall out the case so much that I took of the shrink wrap flipped the DVD pages and 2 of the discs were off the thing, then the supposed uncut episodes are censored so for someone like me I have to go on the internet archive & go out of my way to watch the missing scenes
I agree with everything you said, it really sucks But.... However, it is mainly intended to be on the shelf , after all you don't really watch the episodes on the disc but on the computer
You should reviewing the twilight zone complete series they put out recently, the discs are at least numbered, but theres no episode list and getting any of the discs are an absolute pain
Agreed, the disc layout really isnt great and the out of order episodes sound like a huge pain. I'm glad to have the show atleast, but its poorly set up, especially compared to the SpongeBob ones, or even the Rick and Morty S1-6 box set for example. Great video
I have the complete series boxset of Danny Phantom and they literally rearranged the order of season 2 (I think, its been a bit since I checked) that you have to take out the DVD to switch it out because of how poor it was. IDK if newer reprints of this boxset ever got it fixed but I assume not unless someone tells me otherwise lol. Also there was like no bonus features at all and I really wanted to hear episode commentary. IDK if other Danny Phantom DVD releases have commentary but if the Spongebob DVDs can..

The most unforgiving DVD sets in my opinion are the DBZ "orange bricks" sets.
But yeah, this set doesnt look too well put-together.
It's truly a shame there is no "definitive" DBZ set.
From what I’ve gathered a lot of DBZ on home media has issues. I know there was a fan restoration recently of GT as I guess the dvd colors were completely inaccurate
@doofusdan_ to make a long story short for the z home media releases
The dvd singles are the best way to watch the show even if the first 17 volumes are English only and are censored (remember this is the ocean dub).

Sadly they made the same design choice. For the 2003 TMNT show when they released the whole thing.
@@oldman5247 I’ve been interested in that set but I’ve heard it has some problems of its own
@@doofusdan_ Each disc has episodes written on them.
That’s a bummer for sure, especially regarding the video quality as the original 4Kids releases weren’t too great in that department either
But regarding the order of the episodes on this new complete series set, and how the seasons break down, me being the nerd I am when it comes to these things, and here is what I figured out:
Discs 1-13 add up to Seasons 1-5.
Look at the recent DVD release of the '87 TMNT show, Paramount didn't even try with that release. As in IT'S LITERALLY THE LIONSGATE RELEASE AGAIN!

It is rather prone to damaging the discs which is obviously not something you want from a dvd set

Overlapping discs is one thing but just straight up stacking them on top of each other is despicable
worst part was the discs were in super stiff tall disc holders that felt like if I didn't take it slow, I could break a disc, plus I needed to keep out each set of 4 discs in order so I could watch it, I binged the series and loved it but I've seen a case of similar style done better without stiffness, Harry Potter 8 disc set had normal disc holders, didn't stack the discs, but it increased the amount of normal disc holders and pages to fit the discs in a safe manner

I do think younger people will come around to collecting movies and shows like music leading to higher quality releases.

Find the episodes online, get an ISO program + disk drive, and burn the episodes onto the disc. You technically paid for them already.
I have a few sets where the discs fall of the spindles, it’s rather annoying
As someone who's owned that SpongeBob set for years now and not even used it as much as I'd like to because of how much I hate the case design, hearing it compared positively to this set in the beginning just filled me with a massive sense of impending dread.
EDIT: And now I'm seeing the actual case design. Where's my barf bag?
The later release for the first 100 is definitely a downgrade from its original release, but it looks like a godsend compared to the tmnt set
I have this box set because I didn’t want to pay for paramount + to watch the series and I can say it was a ABSOLUTE PAIN to figure out as a first time watcher. I think I even accidentally skipped a disc the first time I watched and got supper confused.
I ended up double checking guides just to make sure I didn’t skip a disc
3:58 They literally are numbered right there!
Those numbers are from the original release, so super shredder had a disc one and two but they are not disc one and two of this set
After ripping them do you plan on keeping the discs?
My version of the first 100 episodes of spongebob is almost exactly the same as the tmnt except there are only 2 discs on each side
I have 2 South Park DVD boxsets, and oh my lord, the case is god awful! Each side isn't labelled, and the disc holders easily fall off. The way the discs are layered can cause scratches and more. I wish I got the Blu-ray, but HMV only had them on DVD...
Definitely conniving me to pick up the blu-ray sets
It's the same with the better call Saul complete series only the disc's are stack like towers.
It baffles me when companies do this.
The disc towers are something only weird people who throw away cases should do, not film/movie companies
All the discs being gray is rather lame for sure
Yeah, when I opened mine and saw this bs I immediately broke out the sharpie and opened reddit
You can solve your problem with a sharpie.
Isn't that Ninja Turtles set also missing a couple episodes?
Or have censored ones?
I remember reading something about that when I considered buying it.
As far as I know nothing is censored or missing. Season 5 is out of order but all the episodes are there.
@
I guarantee it would’ve been better on Blu Ray, because Blu Ray doesn’t believe in crappy packaging with box sets like stacking discs on top of each other, double sided discs etc. like dvds do, if this was on Blu Ray I’m certain it would’ve been much better put together, they probably would’ve split them up by season but like I said I think that would’ve been much better for a series this long
Not as bad that one Back to the Future special edition blu ray release (that required INSTRUCTIONS to get to the discs)
@@ThePillowGamer recently found out about this, actually idiotic
The design of the 2012 dvd box set is the same as the 80's cartoon one that i have
I don't own the TMNT 2012 Set but a set I hate and can speak from experience is the ren & stimpy almost complete series because the DVD's fall out the case so much that I took of the shrink wrap flipped the DVD pages and 2 of the discs were off the thing, then the supposed uncut episodes are censored so for someone like me I have to go on the internet archive & go out of my way to watch the missing scenes
I agree with everything you said, it really sucks
But.... However, it is mainly intended to be on the shelf , after all you don't really watch the episodes on the disc but on the computer
The box may suck but the show has some resident evil body horror monsters that were once human
Great video
Thanks! It is nice to just have the show on hand but it would be a lot better if it had the layout of the other shows you mentioned
@@LocalTorchwoodIntern from what I’ve seen online the dvd set is in production order which is why some episodes are out of place. As for the lack of commentary unfortunately none of Shout Factory Nicktoon sets seem to have any bonus features.
@@doofusdan_ Yeah and it seems that Danny's specifically has like quality control issues when looking up reviews for the boxset, I'm glad to get it for cheap (20 bucks) but I wished there was a bit more care put into it. And I dont mind accidental production order but it does sometimes annoy me, like how Ben 10 Omniverse is set up on some streaming services, Especially when its soo bad XD.
Almost as bad as NCircle's Sonic Satam 2023 DVD set. They compressed two seasons (13 eps each) across two discs. Meanwhile the old Shout Factory DVDs where is spread across two discs per season.
I heard some rough stuff about that set. It’s a damn shame as that’s a good show
