Not sure if you even wind up using it, but funny enough, Iron Bundle doesn’t actually learn Surf in gen 9. For that matter, the only way it can deal meaningful water damage (bar stuff like Mimic) is Hydro Pump - probably a balancing decision for VGC as Surf Iron Bundle would enable some pretty strong strategies.

So first, amazing video. It is always awesome to see you do really cool runs like this and Daily December has become my most anticipated seasonal celebration of Christmas short of the actual family event. 20:00 When you’re that close to leveling up why don’t you just knock the Onix out with surf and get that level rather than run away and risk more encounters that bleed frames?
Popping in at Lorelei for commentary on 20:06 . Given you were forced to encounter Onix anyway, would KOing a single one have improved Lorelei feasibly? Thank you for being a big part of my year Scott. I found your channel last year and it helped go through a rough time I had, while also making me go back and play the first gens again (and even do my own solo runs in gen 3). Please take care of yourself and get some very well-deserved rest in your vacation. Also yes, sticking to a more fun approach for you is better than feeling anxious because some people on in the internet won't like that Magikarp or Gyarados (for example) couldn't get a slightly better time.
Speaking purely from my point of view... Do you think i ever gleaned any sort of structure as to which gen and version you were playing? I just saw "ooh, scott made a new video, is it old pokemon or new pokemon?“
34:15 I totally agree with your new mindset. Your channel feels like a democratization effort for the solo running community, where you've laid the foundation for the more scientific part of the community with both your runs in general AND with your clear attitude of giving back to the community with your software. As a result having your runs as a "baseline" for an optimized run with that Pokémon makes a lot of sense, especially when you yourself have noticed that doing half a dozen runs to shave off small amounts of time isn't fulfilling/compatible with your production schedule.
In Gen 9 they made ancient and futuristic versions of existing pokemon called Paradox pokemon, a whole bunch of mons got them like Jigglypuff, Magneton, Hariyama, Tyranitar, and there’s even one that combines mega Gallade and Gardevoir into one genderbending robot. And Paradox Misdrevous especially has been terrorizing competitive.
Idk that moveset conversion is a bit busted. In Gen 1, it would have learned either Bubble or Water Gun, not both. The missing one would have been replaced with Tail Whip or Growl or Leer. Ice Beam would have definitely been Haze instead. But it is what it is. All the backports were overpowered for Gen 1 so far anyway (even if they had bad results).
Surprised you gave it surf. Maybe it's because of all the missed Hydro Pumps I've seen, but I feel like the fact that this thing does not learn surf is the most notable fact about it
@ i don’t really agree with it having surf but I’m putting myself in his shoes that he is trying to put himself in gamefreaks shoes. Giving everyone surf is a stretch. Apples and oranges
@@matthewcline5040 In Gen 1, the only Water type to not get Surf is Magikarp, who doesn't get any TMs or HMs. They also gave it to Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Pikachu/Raichu via event, Lickitung, Rhydon, Kangaskhan, Snorlax, the entire Dratini line, and Mew. 33:33 I'm in full agreement with this strategy. Of course it's always nice to see the Pokémon perform at their optimum but I think you need to be realistic with what you can achieve in the time you have. Your time could probably be better spent not doing 9 Machoke runs or whatever. For me what is more important than that is: 1) The quality of the videos, in terms of the narratives you create, the storytelling methods etc. 2) Quantity is of course nice but noting we are aware you can only produce what you have time to produce! 3) Always producing legitimate runs. You obviously share certain ways you modify the games to support consistency which is great but it is important to trust that you are not modifying the game beyond that which you are telling us. I can imagine there is a temptation to do otherwise to support speedier production of your videos but I think that trust between us and you is vital to what you're doing! Thanks for a great year of content and looking forward to what's next!
All of the Future Paradoxes have "Iron" in their name and none of them are part Steel, Scott, that's just how they work. Psywave's lowest damage roll is actually 0 damage! This causes a desynch glitch in link battles, which means the move is generally banned in gen 1.
Espathra was an excellent Metronome Only Pokemon. Iron Bundle blew it out of the water. It's decently bulky to allow enough rolls of Metronome in any given battle to get a decent move. Attack is high enough to be able to use physical moves in the early and mid game against most everything. Any neutral or effective special move was just immensely powerful. There were no trainers it struggled against beyond what I have come to expect from any Pokemon that only uses Metronome, and notably made short work of Koga, who graciously allowed me to Mimic Psychic off his first Venonat. In the end it beat Espathra by about 10-15 min in less than 4h, and, as a first, without reaching level 100. FIWB, and thank Arceus for Crabhammer in Gen 1

I feel conflicted about surf squidgy just did a crystal version of iron bundle and it didnt get the hm for surf as it didnt get the tm 123 (surf) in gen 9. Love the video and the effort in make this rom hack; i cant help but feel that giving bundle surf was... Not a correct choice.
This is fine but I'm more interested in how good ole Delibird would do. Possible Level up set: Default - Present Level 10 - Peck Level 15 - Quick Attack Level 20 - Aurora Beam Level 25 - Drill Peck Level 30 - Ice Punch Level 35 - Agility Level 40 - Pay Day TMs/HMs: Bubble Beam because it learns Water Pulse but not Water Gun because it doesn't learn that and I think it would be neat to have something learn one of the water TMs in gen 1 but not the other. Ice Beam and Blizzard because it learns those moves as early as its debut gen. Body Slam, Take Down, Swift, Hyper Beam, Mimic, Rest, Double Team. Fly but not Surf because it never gets Surf. Flash because it gets Defog both moves play a similar role as HMs and both have been assigned the same HM number over the course of the series history. PS: Pay Day comes from an Event Delibird in gen 2. I put it as its final level up move because event Pokemon are meant to be special and also because that felt like the only fair way to incorporate the move. Happy holidays to you your wife and the team Scott. Daily videos have been a real treat.
I know you're playing in 4x speed so decisions are made really fast but man, I was just like just knock out the wild Onix instead of running, level up to 48 (past a damage-rounding threshold), go into Lorelei at a higher level without the threat of leveling up mid-battle or just use Rare Candies before the fight. But that's why there are multiple playthroughs lol.
With the Pre Gen 5 EXP yields, you're never running a team of 6 without falling behind. You'll have 1 or 2 spaces for HM indentured servants every time
Didn't even know this was a pokemon, but I haven't played any mainstream games in forever and never finish fan games as I get busy and never come back to them. So I checked out bulbapedia for it, then saw other iron versions. Then saw this after seeing what electric terrain was, pincurchin, how about a run using this? Might be a good challenge, doesn't evolve, mostly solid stats but hp isn't very good, and speed is a snails pace.
You know, often I argue against power creep in Pokémon being much of a thing. Because they generally give a lot of good moves, abilities and other tools so that strong mons from older generations remain strong, and so that people can use their favourites. (If you want to see real egregious power creep check out Fire Emblem Heroes) Then gen 9 happened, and gamefreak was like “Screw balance and especially screw the well designed singles meta game designed by our fans who put far more love and thought into than we did.” Iron bundle here is a good example of that philosophy.
same thing at 20:45, you’ve badge boosted 6 times and your special is so much higher, dewgong’s defence is much higher than its special, even a surf would do a lot more damage than a drill peck. if you have all the numbers in your overlay, why not look at it, and think?
HO HO HO, Merry Christmas! And boy, let’s see how much Iron Bundle can potentially steamroll the game because HOLY ARCEUS, those back port stats! I feel like it might easily make it to the S-Tier, if not high A-Tier! UPDATE: Huh, high A-Tier (after a few more redos). Not bad. But Weedle? Boy, that will be a nightmare to witness.
This is the first Pokemon I feel got assigned the wrong value for Special. I don't think Game Freak would give this Pokemon such high special in gen 1, there are plenty of Pokemon that got their special raised due to the split in gen 2 so I don't agree with just because it is primarily a special attacker it would have the higher one. At 510 Iron Bundle is the second highest stat total in gen 1, only behind Mewtwo. if it was at 434 (taking 60 sp def) then it would still be one of the higher base totals around where Starmie and Tentacruel are at (435) and would have been a more interesting playthrough imo.
@@bettyunicorn6132 Wouldn't it make more sense then for there to be one that has higher attack? Gen 1 had a ton of quirks where special pokemon had higher attack. My real issue is more that it's base total is higher than all other gen 1s other than mewtwo, do you think they would have Iron Bundle as the second strongest pokemon?
Tbh, bundle would be a lot worse without freeze dry, and that’s not a signature move, it’s coverage is just kinda bad. You probably could have given it ice punch in that place since they’re both 75 bp but not sure it would matter.
40:17 my holiday season has been a little rocky, since I finally caugt Covid (almost 5 years free...) and have been stuck in my room; but Daily December has been fantastic for giving me something to watch!
Sadly if Iron Bundle were actually in Gen I, it would be found at level 28 in the seafoam islands and not learn any moves until level 24 💀
Here's what its level-up movepool could look like:
1 - Peck
24 - Tail Whip
30 - Fury Attack
37 - Take Down
55 - Leer
67 - Aurora Beam

I feel conflicted about surf squidgy just did a crystal version of iron bundle and it didnt get the hm for surf as it didnt get the tm 123 (surf) in gen 9. Love the video and the effort in make this rom hack; i cant help but feel that giving bundle surf was... Not a correct choice.
0:11 ooooo OCD Scott... nice
This is fine but I'm more interested in how good ole Delibird would do.
Possible Level up set:
Default - Present
Level 10 - Peck
Level 15 - Quick Attack
Level 20 - Aurora Beam
Level 25 - Drill Peck
Level 30 - Ice Punch
Level 35 - Agility
Level 40 - Pay Day
TMs/HMs:
Bubble Beam because it learns Water Pulse but not Water Gun because it doesn't learn that and I think it would be neat to have something learn one of the water TMs in gen 1 but not the other.
How about doing 2 or 3 runs with a pokemon, and then just theorising how much time could be saved through luckier RNG?
Imagine learning a HM move before the eradication of HM moves. _"Oh yeah, I'll teach Whirlpool-" _*_HAVE FUN WITH 3 MOVES FROM LEVEL 14!_*
I thought pecking goldeen had art because she collectively gave us all trauma in the parasect race
16:36 why wouldn’t you just use surf or ice beam here?
same thing at 20:45, you’ve badge boosted 6 times and your special is so much higher, dewgong’s defence is much higher than its special, even a surf would do a lot more damage than a drill peck.
if you have all the numbers in your overlay, why not look at it, and think?
I guess now we need Iron Treads and Great Tusk in Crystal now...
Watching this in the background and my girlfriend walks by as you're saying, "Okay, look at my PP". Ruined the rest of the holidays 😭😭😭
Thank you.
Ah yes, Iron Bumdle
Oh, actually I asked for Iron Thorns this year. That jerk Santa tried to tell me pokemon weren't real...
The Goldeen trainer was so close yet so far away at the same time
HO HO HO, Merry Christmas!
All ice types have their higher stat as their specail so no I think its fine
@@bettyunicorn6132 Wouldn't it make more sense then for there to be one that has higher attack? Gen 1 had a ton of quirks where special pokemon had higher attack. My real issue is more that it's base total is higher than all other gen 1s other than mewtwo, do you think they would have Iron Bundle as the second strongest pokemon?
@@bettyunicorn6132 And that isn't even true, Cloyster has higher attack so you were wrong anyways.
The back sprite looks like a pregnant Trapinch
I have high hopes for Iron Bundle, I hope that it's busted in this challenge as it is in gen 9
You didn't give it access to Razor Wind!? You monster!
I had to look it up. I thought Iron Bundle was an april Fools Joke 😅 (but on Christmas Eve)
Thanks for the great video
Tbh, bundle would be a lot worse without freeze dry, and that’s not a signature move, it’s coverage is just kinda bad. You probably could have given it ice punch in that place since they’re both 75 bp but not sure it would matter.
It bugs me that it looks metallic and has Iron in the name, but is ice/water instead of something with steel in it
Why was weedle removed?
Where did weedle go😢
Does anyone else think that if Iron Bundle was invented in gen 1 that it would somehow learn tbunderbolt?
why not save weedle for January? xD
if last year was any indication, Scott is likely taking January off
I just noticed that I wasn't subbed yet after watching like 150+ of your videos. Whoops
Actually,it is possible for psywave to do no damage at all😂 so you almost got the luckiest outcome
40:17 my holiday season has been a little rocky, since I finally caugt Covid (almost 5 years free...) and have been stuck in my room; but Daily December has been fantastic for giving me something to watch!
Last Christmas, I gave you delibird. But the very next day, you trade him away.
This year, to save me from tears, I’ll give you iron bundle.
Iron Bundle is a water/Ice type? Should be steel/ice.
if this think learn psychic he would be a S tier mon !
the blemish makes a good story
Anyone else see a trapinch in the head of the back sprite?
Iron Bundle doesnt learn Surf
Hope you're having a good day
5:23 geez you could at least buy me dinner first.
Merry Christmas
Let's go for my prediction
Ice Beam
Drill Peck
Agility
Bidy Slam
Tier : S- or A+
