If Ninjask had an ability that wasn't Speed Boost, it'd be a lot worse, even ingame. That ability essentially guarantees you'll get a good Baton Pass off, and Baton Pass is the best move in every single Pokemon game where it is available. (Also, I'd very seriously argue that Ninjask would have done significantly better in your tier list if Roxanne didn't specifically wall it.) I am also reminding you, again, that if you have beaten the 5th Gym Leader in any of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, you never, ever, ever, EVER have to fight wild pokemon for EXP. You have access to the Trainer Eyes/Match Call, which means you can rematch people infinitely, and they will quickly end up with teams that have levels above 30 even if they have 6 Pokemon (which two people around Mauville do)

In Dewford cave there is an Everstone which could potentially save you a lot of time throughout the run by preventing the post battle evolution cancelling. Of course this all depends on how badly the mon needs different held items for grinding and the time loss associated with having to open the bag and swap out the held items as needed. I just don't know what the ranges would look like

I definitely expected the generally Support based line to not do the best. Something to try out for Nincada’s early game with Roxanne is using Fury Swipes over cut because of Compound Eyes, and then going with a Leppa Berry to regain PP on Leech Life.
Shedinja's 1 HP is one of my favorite memes on Pokemon. In gen 8 they made a 5 star max raid battle with Shedinja and gave it something like 8 shields. None of which matter cause the shields do not prevent all damage, so 1 point of chip still 1 shots it
there is actually an edge case where shedinja's defense and special defense come into play (and hence its a good thing they're not zero or close to it). future sight and doom desire can be used against shedinja (even if it uses protect on that turn, the moves will still be called, and protect also cannot protect shedinja from being KO'd by them in 2 turns if it stays in). if shedinja switches out after the opponent uses future sight or doom desire, then shedinja's partner which takes the future sight/doom desire takes damage based on *shedinja's* defense/spdef (respectively). this isnt relevant for a solo run or even relevant that often competitively, but it is the circumstance where its defensive stats other than hp can impact a game.
Your discussion on evolution runs benefiting Shedinja gave me the Idea that it would be interesting if during your evolutionary lines videos for fire red and platinum, you allowed yourself to use both Shedinja and Ninjask. It's certainly unconventional, but I think it would be a fun run.

Hey Scott, I'd suggest that you add a function to your overlay that automatically adds a master ball to your inventory when a wild shiny pokemon appers, so you can catch it easily without impacting the solo pokemons performance a lot.
I've used Nincada in several nuzlockes before, and fury swipes (100% accurate due to Compound Eyes) REALLY helps against Roxanne (and rival 2), which still does at least 1 damage per hit even after Nosepass sets up harden several times.
On the twenty-first day of Christmas, Scott’s Thoughts gave to me… Twenty-one cicada fams, Twenty Swords Dance backports, Nineteen mid tadpole swirls, Eighteen mid bell peppers, Seventeen backported legends, Sixteen evolution tests, Fifteen Kanto kaiju, Fourteen starter redos, Thirteen rare Normal girls, Twelve bear v bull fights, Eleven Gen 1 backports, Ten pounds per pink puff, Nine resists when evolved, Eight Belly Drum badges, Seven years with Psywave, Six slow squad solos, Five mid starter flings! So why not do a Chansey and give it 5/10 in the respective stats? *Edit* it just came to me that it Could be useful when you're baton passed a substitute and it uses Shedinja's Defense stats for damage calculations, sooo yeah.
Hola, Scott! Yes, your pronounciation of Juan in this video is good. You usually omit the 'J' (which sounds kinda like an 'h' in English so, if it really is hard, saying "Hwang" would be 10x better than saying "One" :P). Funny thing, the 'H' in "Humberto" IS mute. So you should say "Umberto" if you ever have to mention that trainer again. Nice effort on the prnounciation though, it WAS mostly right.
Love your idea of leveling up to 25 before evolving! Would love to see a run with that strategy I command your determination Scott, thanks once again and Merry Christmas!
Commenting from the start of the video, I can see issues for every combatant: - Nincada, as a preevolution, has the lowest BST of the three. The type coverage with Ground, Steel, Ghost, Flying and Bug is fine but without Swords Dance to push the physical types, it will struggle towards the late game. - Ninjask has the better offensive stats but with far too much speed and effectively a useless ability. Sadly this is not competitive, so Ninjask won't be able to make use of Focus Sash for a free Swords Dance every fight. The coverage is the same as Nincada but the much reduced defense will likely be a struggle when opponents like Roxanne are always incentivised to spam Rock Tomb. - Shedinja is...something. The great issue it has is its gimmick with Wonder Guard. Only ever having 1 HP means that any time it can not one-tap an enemy that can hit it for super effective damage, it will be walled until it can. If Shedinja at 100 can't beat Steven, that will be it.
Shedinja would be so much better if they had just given Wonder Guard the additional effect of negating passive damage. Of course, then hacked Sableyes and Spiritombs _would_ be unbeatable.
I look forward to you attempting Fire Red with Shedinja just to get to the second round league champion and realize the Tyranitar's sandstorm makes it impossible
I have a soft spot in my heart for Nincada. To the point I like to do a "Bug Pokémon that lose a typing" team. Nincada (loses ground upon evolution), Surskit (Loses water), Scyther (flying), Scorupi (Bug).

I had forgotten you're a fellow Canadian and was spacing out when I suddenly heard you mention going to school in Montreal and went 'wait a minute, I've been there!' lmao
The only challenge run I've ever done was a Heartgold run with a single Nincada (and then its two evolutions once it evolved) and let me tell you what, Jasmine was a real big problem for Ninjask and Shedinja. Shedinja is a super *cool* pokemon and when it's good it's amazing but when it's bad, it's worse than useless. Fun stuff.
Hey Scott! Did you consider the following moveset for Shedinja?: 1: Swagger (For increased confusion damage) 2: Secret Power (30% flinch chance when used inside of the cave) 3: Shadow ball (STAB) 4: Double Team or Protect (For stalling the battle after swagger) Item: Focus Band Thank you for the awesome content you have created for us!
I did a Mono Ghost run in Emerald. And considering I had no level cap rule AND my rule states that I have to use the first Ghost I can get my hands on, I was forced to use Shedinja against Roxanne. Only difference is I allowed myself the use of Double Team, which eventually got me the win.
58:35 Why buy a Double Team TM at the game corner? Did you sell the one on Route 113 (the one with the falling ash) earlier? It's hidden in an ash pile north of the western-most patch of tall grass.
Rock Timb heard all that mess Scott was talking about it all year, and was like.... lemme show you something today. What an unfortunate start for Shedinja, man.
Concerning the next Emerald run, Gulpin is one of the very few non Grass Pomemon that actually can learn the Bullet Seed TM, so at the very least it doesn't brick wall against Roxanne
Making another comment to post some thoughts I had about the video (spoilers below): -I don’t know how good Fury Swipes would be for Nincada, but Compoundeyes would give it perfect accuracy (technically 104% but you get the idea). Some part of me thinks it would have an advantage against Roxanne since it can hit multiple times, especially after the Rock types set up their Defense, as well as give more move flexibility in the mid game. -Shedinja seems basically impossible, but one potential way I could maybe see it winning is by setting up Double Team against Claydol, his second Pokemon. It only has 5 PP to attack with and then it does nothing, so that seems like a better opportunity than Cradily, which has an additional 10 PP on Confuse Ray. -HP Fire or Electric could give slightly more damage against Skarmory, but I doubt that taking away HP Fighting is worth it, considering how valuable the type coverage is. None of this is me suggesting that you subject yourself to more solos with Nincada or Shedinja; your video has done a great job of showing the suffering you went through. I’m just a curious guy.
Comment might be buried, but I wanted to try to encourage you to prioritize life in the work/life balance equation. We love the content, concept and execution, and you are in my opinion top in your field in the way you execute (eggsecute?) your runs and analysis. You have enough buffer to be able to not be 100% optimized. This is a marathon, not a race. Doesn't do us any good if you do an extra 2 or 3 runs with a terrible experience mon if it means you burn out and decrease overall output and more importantly joy. Take care of yourself, everything else will follow because you're awesome.
Hey Scott it’s kind of crazy, but if you can learn to RNG manipulate mirage island, I think that will help you moving forward with these weak physically attacking mons. On the island you can get a Leichi berry, which when combined with substitute, you can get an additional boost to your attack stat in the Steven fight. I did this once in a different challenge play through of my own, and that berry came in clutch to beat Steve on my first try. It might be useful for you in future play throughs. Anyways, thanks for the vid, sorry you couldn’t beat Shedinja, was looking forward to that one, but at least the Regis will look a little less out of place now.
As Scott mentioned Shedinja mirrors Ninjask’s Moveset Starting as Nincada and evolve it into Shedinja might actually help to improve its time as evolving at Level 25 will let it gain access to Sword Dance, probably one of the best move in the game. Maybe it will be worth trying in a stream to see if sword dance can save it or not But by judging Ninjask’s result I think it’ll still gonna have Surge or even Bruno tier at best
I fully support adding the Improbable tier. Like Shedinja is technically possible but it is roughly as likely as a full odds shiny. Kinda unfair to lump it in with "I start with only Explosion" mons but it couldn't finish legitimately either. I think a 'had to use Double Team' tier would be a good addition too, especially for Emerald and FireRed round 2. Steven and E4 round 2 are really hard so I think there will be a good number of first stages in that tier. (Also for future games HeartGold with E4 round two required to get to Red). For your early EV training: Route 103 (where you fight the first rival fight) is better since the mons there only give attack and speed (source: I've done EV training in gen 3 and looked at most of the routes to see if they're useful for it). 103 is the best early game spot for Attack and one of the better ones for speed.
New Tier Idea: Ditto Tier (Above Impossible, but below Bruno) Runs that are humanly improbable, but its odds of winning aren't 0%, and given infinite time, it can definitely pull it off.
it might have been more interesting if you made a run that starts with a nincada that evolves as you play. That way you start with one pokemon that doesn't take super effective damage from rock and splits into two pokemon.
Would swagger be better than confuse ray. The attk boost makes them hit themselves more and they're one shotting yiu anyways.
There is another way: HP, Spite, Protect, Fury Cutter - Ike the Killer used it on stream and got a much better result
Swagger pairs really well with screech that way.
In today’s video, Scott has some bugs to work out… and onto the tier list.
Best comment lmfao!!

*Edit* it just came to me that it Could be useful when you're baton passed a substitute and it uses Shedinja's Defense stats for damage calculations, sooo yeah.

I had forgotten you're a fellow Canadian and was spacing out when I suddenly heard you mention going to school in Montreal and went 'wait a minute, I've been there!' lmao
*Love This Evolution Line!*
Fun stuff.
Nincada in Leaf Green would be an interesting versus, that's for sure
You’re the man, Scott
Hey Scott!
Did you consider the following moveset for Shedinja?:
1: Swagger (For increased confusion damage)
2: Secret Power (30% flinch chance when used inside of the cave)
3: Shadow ball (STAB)
4: Double Team or Protect (For stalling the battle after swagger)
Item: Focus Band
Thank you for the awesome content you have created for us!
I did a Mono Ghost run in Emerald. And considering I had no level cap rule AND my rule states that I have to use the first Ghost I can get my hands on, I was forced to use Shedinja against Roxanne. Only difference is I allowed myself the use of Double Team, which eventually got me the win.
I like the Abra rule as is. Allows races to be a bit more close
It seems incredibly unfair for the AI to see Shedinja’s EXP as 1 HP and not just as “full health”.
58:35 Why buy a Double Team TM at the game corner? Did you sell the one on Route 113 (the one with the falling ash) earlier? It's hidden in an ash pile north of the western-most patch of tall grass.
3:44 why did you pick up Oran Berries in your Shedinja playthrough?
hungry
I assumed it was named POLI was a joke about how when it evolves you end up with 2 pokemon instead of one
Pain free adjustments like easy abra are totally fine, it’s like fixing the surge “puzzle” from Kanto.
Out of all the Pokémon who can’t win, I’m the best - Shedinja
Huan and Humberto the humming pokehumans
Rock Timb heard all that mess Scott was talking about it all year, and was like.... lemme show you something today. What an unfortunate start for Shedinja, man.
Concerning the next Emerald run, Gulpin is one of the very few non Grass Pomemon that actually can learn the Bullet Seed TM, so at the very least it doesn't brick wall against Roxanne
Making another comment to post some thoughts I had about the video (spoilers below):
-I don’t know how good Fury Swipes would be for Nincada, but Compoundeyes would give it perfect accuracy (technically 104% but you get the idea).
Maybe it will be worth trying in a stream to see if sword dance can save it or not
But by judging Ninjask’s result I think it’ll still gonna have Surge or even Bruno tier at best
Argentinean happy with your pronunciation here! 😂🎉
For the sake of Sir Al Go Rhythm, technically in Gen 8 Shedinja can get 2 HP instead of 1 (and thus survive one turn of sandstorm etc)
Would love to see an evo vs run where you start as nincada in both then evolve into each
I really liked the way you pronounced Humberto, it's a uncommon name here in Brazil, but it appears sometimes
New Tier Idea: Ditto Tier (Above Impossible, but below Bruno)
Runs that are humanly improbable, but its odds of winning aren't 0%, and given infinite time, it can definitely pull it off.
Scott is not looking forward to Gulpin. Gulpin… I’ll see myself out.
if only Shedinja learned endeavor
it might have been more interesting if you made a run that starts with a nincada that evolves as you play. That way you start with one pokemon that doesn't take super effective damage from rock and splits into two pokemon.
For the double fights, perhaps protect can help? Im not sure if it is a buyable TM in this gen.
Hum-bear-toe is absolutely wild Scott
Even for a Canadian
LMAO of course Gulpin was chosen. Gotta name it D's
