I kept trying to convince myself that the team is just in a slump. As time goes by, that task is becoming harder. Right now the only positive I can think of right now is that the Cubs have not been swept yet. That may be something to build off of, but winning one out of three games or one out of four games will not get the team to the postseason. The Phillies are definitely going to be a challenge even with several key players out due to injuries.

Well stated! Thank you. And you're so right with the no team chemistry!! They're not galvanized as a unit and they don't care about losing. That's at the core is the individual mindsets. They don't care and it shows. And yes the hitting is abysmal and they just need to clean house. Bellinger is the only decent hitter. Dansby Swanson couldn't hit a bull in the ass with a bass fiddle at this point. Just awful
Brewer fan here. Love the opener with Sam explaining his Tuesday night plans going to a game with his dad being cancelled, lol. Looks like the Brewers will meet the Cubs in late July for another 3 game series in Chicago. I'm thinking the Brewers might be playing for the one seed at that time.
There is a saying in baseball. “Hitting is infectious.” I guess we could say the same about bad play. No one can hit, catch or pitch after the 5th inning. They are quite the embarrassment.
When Craig Council took the Cubs job the Brewers worked fast to make Pat Murphy their next manager & not follow Craig to the Cubs. The Cubs bench coach position was open when Craig Council got hired.
Right on Matt, A quiet team is a losing team. The problem now is nobody is good enough to call out the team. Plus to make it double worse, No leaders on this team. For instance, if Swanson who is one of the veterans on the Cubs calls out the team. I guess they would listen, but he is playing terrible too. Bellinger top veteran on team, last HR was during Covid. All he is doing is looking for his last pay day to retire. Everyone on the team has the same demeanor ,quiet low key.
Yes the players are not playing up to their expectations. In Milwaukee, Counsell brought out the best of his average ball club and played smart baseball. Yes Milwaukees bullpen was lights out and ours sucks but Milwaukee is playing the same kind of baseball with same kind of lineup when Counsell was there. Pat Murphy was running the show in my opinion.
Sam, you and your dad are absolutely right about not buying tickets to the Cubs- Phillies game. It's time fror the fans to make as bold a statement as you and your dad about the horrible Cubs-just don't buy tickets to watch one pathetic debacle after another. The Cubs are putting out a lousy product. Why pay for it?
I was right. The Cubs should have kept Rossy. At least he had more passion and relationships with the players. The Cubs should have gotten a better bullpen and catcher with those Millions they are paying CC. But hey, what do I know about baseball.
They should have kept Rossy but this team would still suck this year because at the end of the day it has nothing to do with the manager.. this team is just bad.
The cubs have 24 games to save their season. Even if they go 14-10 then they finish at 53-56 and I think at that point they still sell. You would need a great stretch like last season and need like a 17-7 stretch in order to prove they should keep this group together. Which we all think is probably not going to happen.
It’s impossible we don’t have the payroll to compete with the dodgers, Phillies and cubs. Teams like that just have overwhelming talent that the brewers can’t over come. I wish we had an extra 130 mil that the cubs squander every year
In nearly every business, the atmosphere and efficiency of the team is a reflection of the management. Oh, for a guy like Billy Martin or Sweet Lou today.
Hoyer's "attempt" at rebuilding the construct of this team has been miserable. At the time it was decided the core of the 2016 WS team (Bryant, Schwarber, Rizzo, Baez, Happ, etc) was not viable to make another title run it was due to the construct of the roster being "All or Nothing" at the plate ending multiple postseason runs early. It was decided the team needed to move to guys that made more contact to get back to competing in the post-season. While it is clear it was quite intelligent to move on from Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez, it sure would be nice to have some slug in this lineup with Schwarber. In the process of reconstructing this lineup from "All or Nothing" with some more contact hitters via the small ball route, we have witnessed the removal of the "ALL" and continue on with just the "NOTHING." Average and contact is way down. Is this on Jed and the scouts for over-estimating the talent they brought in? Or is this a failure of the hitting coaches with Dustin Kelly and John Mallee in need of being demoted / replaced? Not a single player is playing to their career averages, let alone having a good year. How can you justify continuing to play Amaya? We used to see catcher's interference a few times a season across the league. Amaya has committed 4 of these violations already and it seems to be growing across the league as well. When did it become coaching driven for catchers to be inching / reaching forward resulting in these violations?
Should have won the series opener if not for a bonehead play by Amaya. But this team cant score runs. Our 7,8 and 9 hitters are garbage. Your absolutely right Sam. I gotta hand it to guys you know exactly whats wrong with this team. Great job guys.
Feel for the starting pitchers. They have done all you could ask. Everything else with this team is horrible. Even the defense which was supposed to be elite is poor.

The problem is the Cubs have been trying to have it both ways, rebuilding the farm system after graduating and losing the core 4 and trading away prospects from 2015-2018 and trying to be competitive at the same time without spending a lot of money in FA to fill in the gaps left from trading prospects or not developing the ones they held onto. They need to decide, full rebuild and tear it all down, or be aggressive in FA and trades, Jed cant have it both ways.

How about this team is not very good! There isn’t a lot of talent. You can sugar coat it all you want but it won’t change the fact this team stinks. It’s on the ownership and front office. Period.
I put the game on my laptop on mute, and turn it so I cannot see it. Then I occasionally peek at it. I looked when Hendricks had the bases loaded and said that there would be a grand slam. It is all so predictable
How many players are hitting .190 ish? How many of these dudes strike out looking after taking a meatball down the middle for a called strike one? These dudes just stand there with their bats on the shoulder. Throw in a check swing by Swanson and Suzuki and Wisdom. They ALL do a check swing on a meatball. They are pathetic. Next year you can keep Swanson, Nico, Bellinger, Bote, Happ because they can sometimes hit and most times catch the ball. And keep PCA cause he can only get better. We need to jettison the rest of the team. Pitchers? Half can stay the rest can go. And get rid of the 3rd base coach. If you lead the league in runners getting hosed at home? Your idiot coach has to go.
Another great show Matt and Sam (unlike the Cubs), I am all for the sell off. BTW that grand slam on Friday looked extremely catchable but looked like Happ just badly mistimed his jump just like Sunday.
Look at the head coach! Everybody in Wisconsin praises him, and was so heartbroken when he left to go to Chicago. I wasn’t! I think he was a sub satisfactory coach. In Milwaukee, he did absolutely nothing. He just relied on his pitching. He didn’t coach! He had one of the fastest teams and all of baseball but he would not use it. I’m talking about team speed. They were the lowest and steals and band attempts in baseball. He’s a terrible coach and a terrible manager. Cubs should get rid of him!
Why do you think Milwaukee let him go so easily. He doesn't have the right stuff. Before every Brewer game on the radio they would have a pregame interview with Council and he would almost put you to sleep at the wheel. It might be a marithon but now your in sprint mode just to get a wild card spot
Didn't they score runs last year? What can change so much in one year? It seemed all the Cubs had to improve was the bullpen and they didn't do that. That's Jeds fault.
Would have been a sweep if the Umps didn’t blatantly rig it for the Cubs (as usual) in the bottom of the 9th in the second game by expanding the strike zone by two feet
Again….Jed and the Cubs go after the TJ Maxx free agent deals. They like deals and to get lucky on people. Well, this is what happens when everyone has a regression year. It’s terrible. I hate this team. I’ve never disliked a team as much. They’ve had some bad teams but this team surpasses those Dusty Baker or Lou Pinella years where the Cubs were nothing but a bunch of chasing bad pitches team and that’s who they remind me of. Nico Hoerner = Ryan Theriot, Dansby is Starlin Castro. This team has a bunch of role players who might be great additions to about 3-4 other super stars. They don’t have those because the FO doesn’t play in the big pool with the major stars. ALWAYS with the 3rd best FA position. I have a feeling that if they give up on Christopher Morel he may be the type of dude who becomes good like 3 years from now, I could see it. It’s happened to a few former Cub players who lately have really taken off with other organizations. The SP need to go complete game shut outs because they can’t score.
I think Happ is overrated as an outfielder. I say this because not only did he misplay a routine fly ball in yesterday's game, but the grand slam that was hit in Friday's game was catchable ball up against the wall if he had timed his leap properly.
None of the position players play with an edge or with any passion. They are robotic and just go through the motions. Where is the fire? Where is the edge? Where is the identity? Think Bryce Harper getting tossed from a game and launching his helmet into the stands. Brett Gardner always playing hard and his game pounding the dugout roof with his bat. Big Papi destroying a dugout phone. Some would call these tantrums, but I call it passion. Instead I see a bunch of guys (looking at you Dansby) who have no urgency and insist on adhering to a “process”. Call me crazy, but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again (aka a “process”) and expecting different results. Steele had a great moment but it’s time for the position players to take a stand.
I haven't watched it listened to a game in 2 weeks. It's like Sam says, it's boring and un interesting. I'll keep listening to you all just to hear how bad it's gotten .
Why is Morel STILL playing 3rd base?? Why is Morel still in the lineup, Period!! Automatic strikeout or weak ground ball in RISP situations. Morel and Amaya need to go to AAA. So maybe they can get their crap together
I agree with your fathers' viewpoint but I have to comment that by saying these players stink shows that you prefer to place the blame on the players and are afraid to call out ownership. The players dont stink. Its just that this is their level and they didnt show you last year that they were superstars ready to break out. Basically the same players as last year. Even at their best this is their level more or less. If a horse is not strong enough to finish first what are you going to do, whip it to death? All this is on ownership cause they brought the same product they bought last year and to say Ohhh they spent so much means nothing. If a fast-food joint is selling rotten stuff but is saying that they invested lots of money on the joint will you still eat there? Maybe its time you call out the guy with the checkbook in his pocket and not hit on scape-goats. i understand you want to keep a balance, but come on now!
My guy…. This blame game is a two way street. These players.. DO STINK. They showed you last year that they ARE in fact capable of performing at a high level of competitiveness.. the way they have ALL performed up to this point this season is NOT their level.. they’re capable of more which is why this is beyond frustrating. That being said.. the blame also lands at the feet of Jed and Carter.. this is the roster that they chose to construct.. those chose to try to run it back with the same group from last year that missed.. I’ll say that again.. missed.. missed the playoffs by one game, without adding on any star players to bolster it with and not a single effective reliever that could A. Stay healthy and B. Get three outs in the 9th without giving up 3 runs. So yes the players stink and so does the front office.
@@aronscott9698 I appreciate and respect your viewpoint which is correct BUT they didnt show us last year that they are capable of performing at such a high level. Last year they went on a run to approach the WC and then what happened? Brain fogs like the RF dropping the ball and the bull-pen giving the game away. It was a nice run but even when they stepped on the gas they didnt reach. But my question to you is that if they stink why dont they bring up some prospects who wont have all that pressure on them and i dont think they could do worse. There are prospects out there to give a chance to but I guess its probably a matter of salary stuff and the cheapness
Morel makes defensive mistakes that don't show up as errors. He has poor instincts at 3rd. How does a catcher get a base hit on THAT play? How does Happ miss that ball in left field? It should have been 2-1 coming out of the 4th, not 7-1
Yes, the Cub games deserve to be BOYCOTTED . Why? Their state of play is an abomination and doesn't measure up to the MLB standards and quality that fans expect to see given their significant investment of time and money in support of this form of entertainment. Although there is an occasional game that is an anomaly that they luckily post a W in, but it's obvious with all the weaknesses of the team it will amount to nothing to be optimistic about that will hold a fans continued interest, unless they look at it as just a drinking opportunity to have a good time to be out and about.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The Brewers are simply too good. Going on a decade of owning you guys. Keep calling it Wrigley north though we love sending you home crying.
I will enjoy watching the Brewers bow out meekly in the wildcard round again this season.
There are 3 players that the Cubs will sell for sure. Happ,Smiley and Bellinger
I'm about ready to change my dog's name from wrigley to choctaw stadium...😂
Why do you think Milwaukee let him go so easily. He doesn't have the right stuff. Before every Brewer game on the radio they would have a pregame interview with Council and he would almost put you to sleep at the wheel. It might be a marithon but now your in sprint mode just to get a wild card spot
Wonder if the catchers not calling smart game Too many down the middle
Didn't they score runs last year? What can change so much in one year? It seemed all the Cubs had to improve was the bullpen and they didn't do that. That's Jeds fault.
Bellinger, Suzuki, Happ, Morel, bring up the farm for these guys
Morel needs to be benched
It seems like Craig Counsell still hates the cubs from being a brewer for so long
It feels like CC is afraid to alienate anybody on the team by getting on them for lack of performance.
It’s not his job to be their buddy.. it’s his job to hold them accountable and to produce wins!
When does COUNCEL CLAIM THIS TEAM “as HIS TEAM?” It seems like he doesn’t take any responsibility for THIS TERRIBLE TEAM!
Would have been a sweep if the Umps didn’t blatantly rig it for the Cubs (as usual) in the bottom of the 9th in the second game by expanding the strike zone by two feet
PCH SHOULD bat 1st or 2nd. If he can get on base, he can score
I would prefer you go about this length or a bit longer.
Where is Gomes!!?
Hes gone lol
@@JasonBush-n8b He got DFA’d. I thought he was much better than Amaya. At least he has experience!
Goodwill....you give the front office too much credit
I think Happ is overrated as an outfielder. I say this because not only did he misplay a routine fly ball in yesterday's game, but the grand slam that was hit in Friday's game was catchable ball up against the wall if he had timed his leap properly.
Ask yourself, what would Lou Pinella do with this team? 😳
Go to an hour long guys who ever the sponsors are just tell them you are dont ask just tell you are the freaking locked on Chicago Cubs wake tf up 😂
It would be so cub, they trade these lifeless players then magically they remember how to hit!
Don't spend your money at a Cubs game, don't go! Why should you spend money on a team that has a front office that don't care if they win or lose!
I would like to see Seiya Suzuki traded for Andres Munoz from the Mariners. Please
But, did the team really respond?
Anything
When do fans at Wrigley start throwing garbage at the players?
dumb
It should have been 2-1 coming out of the 4th, not 7-1
Gold glover in left field? I think not.
People going back to cubs games to only drink and get drunk like they did in the past.
With Rizzo out Bellinger is a good fit for Yankees
Yessssssss he’s coming home to play for a real team
Very seriously thinking about canceling my MLB subscription. Hardly watching it these days. No life in this team so why watch them?
Yes, the Cub games deserve to be BOYCOTTED . Why? Their state of play is an abomination and doesn't measure up to the MLB standards and quality that fans expect to see given their significant investment of time and money in support of this form of entertainment. Although there is an occasional game that is an anomaly that they luckily post a W in, but it's obvious with all the weaknesses of the team it will amount to nothing to be optimistic about that will hold a fans continued interest, unless they look at it as just a drinking opportunity to have a good time to be out and about.
New culture. Yikes! Steele pitches his a off and doesn’t have a win. Bellinger wanted 200 million.
Why are the Cubs not hitting. Can u guys answer that
Trade Belli & Morel for an average catcher now! Belli is so not worth what he's getting paid! Cody & his agent started this crap in the off season & delayed us getting a consistent replacement 😢 The Morel project screwed us out of getting a real 3rd basement! Geeze 😫
👍
