Kyle Tucker would be HUGE!! Please, get it done. Cubs actually have good prospects to trade, send them over for a STAR like Tucker. He's exactly what the Cubs need
@@nc3659 it's worthwhile to note that kyle tucker wouldn't be getting added for literally nothing, they offer the idea to trade paredes, could have a separate michael busch trade, slot bellinger to 1B, tucker to RF, shaw to 3B, for example
The way I see it, the easiest and most likely path Hoyer takes to improve the team is adding a starter, couple solid bullpen arms (absolutely need a lefty), and getting a catcher to split time with Amaya. It's a very on brand type of off season for Hoyer. Sure it would still improve the team in a few areas of need but they'd still be lacking any meaningful improvement to the offense. So it goes back to what Hoyer said about needing guys to exceed their projections, which is why they just won 83 games for the 2nd year in a row. Shouldn't be going another season hoping for guys to outperform their projections again but it's very likely that's what will happen.
Hey guys, do you have any indication whether the Cubs front office follows you? Lots of excellent points are being made and I think Jed would benefit by your collective wisdom (for free)!
Thank you Sam and Matt! I could not agree more with Sam's list of the top five things. Have we ever had a group of players and minor Leaguers that could support a superstar like Juan Soto? I'm not real familiar with everyone on Matt's list of people we should trade for but I'm all in on your ideas. Great show and thank you guys very much I'm enjoying this offseason so far
What they need is a closer, period! Last year they had 26 blown saves with 38 saves most playoff teams had 45-50_saves. Convert 10 blown to wins and they are in the playoffs. A great closer also gives a lot of confidence to a team
I know how I felt about last year is they really needed bullpen support and they went into that 1 1/2 offense funk. If both those were just average, I think we are up at least +11/+12 wins and we are having different discussions. I couldn't believe how the offense completely fell off the cliff collectively for that time. This year, it's not much different. I feel bullpen, starting pitcher and consistent offense.
You can't assume anything as far as the Cubs are concerned and maybe baseball is not important but if the Cubs make the Right moves this off-season it sure can be fun. Go Cubs!
I could not agree more with you Sam that this team needs a power bat star like we have had in the past like a Sammy Sosa or Derek Lee. We also need another starting pitcher that can equal what Shota did for us this year and we need Shota to pitch just as well next year as he did this year. All in all our position players need to either field better or bat better or both depending on the individual. Obviously we do still need help in the bullpen, most likely a closer.
Good list Sam. Not necessarily doable but? 5- A low energy team makes for a bored fan in the stands. Low morale why? It’s a low energy team because why? They were involved in 51 games where they scored 2 runs or less. Fix that by attacking first pitch fastballs. You know, like Freddy Freeman did in game 1 when he hit that grand slam. He wasn’t sitting around working pitches and grinding, all the crap the Cubs players do and they end up striking out looking, for the millionth time. Or Judge when he hit number 50. Inside heater about 3 inches too far inside. He was looking to turn on one or if it was outside, hit one in RC. Or even a pitch right down the middle. Those are the pitches the Cubs look for and whey they get them? They take it anyway. Their pitch selection is terrible. 4: They got Amaya, and his back up last year hit some dingers and has a cannon. Their 3rd option is some dude hitting .400 in AAA. Why we would spend a few million when we don’t need to? Beyond me. 3: Pitcher, yes. Fried, Bieber sound good to me. Or you can spend 800 grand a year and sign Trevor Bauer. Immediate ace and cheap. You want fire in the dug out? He’s the guy. If he gets out of hand. Steele will give him a back hand with southern love. Red necks don’t play around. 2. Bullpen: Yes and there are tons of options out there. You see how smart LA is by signing Trienen immediately. 1. Star: Not sure who that is unless it is Vladi who has a gold glove and hit .323 with 30 dingers last year. He’s the guy and Busch is gone. Remember Belli is a star already. He had 18 dingers and had broken ribs and fingers last year. You sign people based on what you think they can do and that is based on playing 155 games. That goes for the whole team. How many games did Rizzo, KB, Javy, Russell, Zobrist miss? Not a lot when winning it all. Do not have room for another Short Stop who wants 200 million. Swanson should be expected to hit 25 dingers and Adames hit 32. Not a big difference. The whole team, all 200 million dollars of them, have to perform. You know, like AZ did two years ago with their team budget of 50 bucks did. Tucker is a good idea too. Negative on the Texas Rangers dude. Negative on Adames. If we are trading, I'd take Schwarber. He's been hitting bombs forever. Never happen. Negative on Jack Flaherty. He's had like 8 good starts in 5 years. I'm exaggerating. Snell is fine too but he wants a 5 yr deal and Evaldi is good when he plays. He's hurt all the time.
I don't see the Astros getting rid of Tucker but one can dream I guess? If we are gonna dream let's dream big and dream that we actually have a chance at signing Soto! All tho Alonso, Santander or Adames would all be solid additions that means the Cubs would have to trade some players on the current roster. Who do they trade to make room for one of those guys? In all honesty I'm not sure if any of those 3 mentioned are worth what they will be asking for?
No Alonso for 28m or higher, that’s what he is looking for when he rejected 144m extension! The METS will pay the most for him so he is going back for over 200m.
T. Hernandes is much reliable and clutch hitter than Alonso proven also in big games. He will be my 4th choice for a big bat free agent. Behind Soto Bregman Santander.
Sam you surprise me, You don't use the word closer anymore ,When last year you kept saying another blown save. I think it was around 20 blown saves, If they win half, they win the division
Sam, word the street is that teams are salivating over Cassie. I know you plan on ranking our players in trade. I think you have to place Cassie near the top.
If not Soto and I know this will not be popular, I'll just assume they run it back. Alonzo is going to want 250 million way to much for a home run and strikeout guy.
They need 1-3 starter that’s right handed!, legit closer, setup guy who can stay healthy and mentor young bullpen arms, proven catcher , and big bat. They will have to spend a lot of money and make tough trade decisions to do so. The bats we have on roster have shown they cannot produce consistently. I’d be happier seeing contracts like Swanson and happ be gone even if that means our farm call ups struggle. I’m just sick of seeing same faces struggle to find their grooves collectively
they aren't signing another OF. That's just flat out stupid. You already have 4 OF for 3 spots in Happ, PCA, Bellinger & Suzuki & can only DH one of them. And you aren't keeping Caissie in AAA in '25. An OF is the last position they need. And a similar issue exists in the IF...no openings.
Brewers Adumbass would be a great fit. He is a difference maker with personality that can fire up the cold bats. Cubs as whole is introverts. But Adamas can change that to a positive attitude.
Maybe the Cubs can sign Fried AND Snell. Then they can have a 5 lefty pitcher rotation with the three they already have. It’s too bad Fried is gonna sign with the dodgers. I’d rather see them get Burnes, Alonso, or Bregman and trade their abundance of “good not great” players for a catcher and a closer.
