Modders are AWESOME. Straight up, it feels like they are “one of us” and knows exactly what the fanbase wants. A great example of this is SM2, an upcoming mod for Modern Warfare 2 that packs tons of stuff in from nearly every COD. It looks like an entirely new game. I wish modders were hired like this more often.
That statement might depend on which community you're talking to.
Yeah the modders that actually care about the game worth respecting and not the ones that care only about their degen fetishes nor just make everything nude for no fucking reason 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's crazy how it took them so many years and a small team of modders turned developers from Russia to get Serious Sam right. Seriously, Croteam has struggled to get Serious Sam right for a decade and then came along Timelock Studio, a group of Slavic modders with only access to a small portion of Croteam's resources (themselves not exactly a large studio), who manage to do the IP justice and give us the best Serios Sam experience since I would say Double D.
What a world we live in.
Just played it, 100% better than serious sam 4 but I hope they fix the stutters.

9 or so months later after the apparent patch to fix the stuttering....how does the game play now? Should I buy it for my PS5? How is the frame rate?

Salutations from Turkey. Serious Sam is literally 2000s Duke Nukem where Duke Nukem is nowhere to be seen nowadays. Glad to play the game since SS1 on PC.

I just finished it today and wow. Loved all the homages to the old games. There's even a few old levels to play contained in secrets. As for the stutters I'm on a Ryzen 7 1800x with a 1080ti and it ran really well at 1440p on ultra settings. I had micro stutters but never got the large ones like in this video. Hopefully they fix it.
All in all when Serious Sam 5 comes around Croteam need these guys with them on the project

You are absolutely right. Almost any time a series is handed to the fan community, they almost always knock a grand slam! Just look at Sonic Mania!
Sonic mania was the exact example I kept using while streaming. After so many years, a game starts to be about money. If fans take over, it becomes a passion project again.

Just goes to show how much the people really cares about the franchise and only wants what's best for it and this DLC shows.
Serious Sam 5: Probably gonna be another prequel taking place in Sam's High School years because Croteam doesn't understand the concept of a sequel.
I believe they got obsessed with the prequels because of SS3.Sam 3 is the best selling game in the series and despite lacking features from older titles,people liked it because of the story-driven gritty experience.When Ss4's story got announced to be another prequel,I was hyped because i expected a gritty story similar to BFE showing in depth how fucked up and tense the war against Mental was and how the world leaders got to the conclusion to activate the timelock.Unfortunately Croteam missed the opportunity and instead they somehow managed to make a story wackier than Ss2(Sam 2 is my fav in the series tho).
2:45 the quest name is Roadside Picnic. Serious Sam is one of the last games I expected to reference one of the best sci-fi books of all time
Also, Crime and punishment. And the first level in Russian is basically a line from a song of post-soviet punk-rock musician Egor Letov (In game it says The smell of petroleum prevails but for bettet accuracy I would say "The eternity smells with petroleum/oil) to whom in-game character Igor Ledov is a reference.

I knew the Slavic themed Serious Sam expansion would reference slavic culture, but seeing the works of Dostoevsky and the Strugatsky brothers referenced surprised me
The only thing they missed in the OG frog fight was that same attack growl sound coming from every damn frog.
That and the first time seeing the headless bombers were one of the most golden gaming moments in my life.

I would also say that the kamikaze rush from the start of level 4 is something that I would call a "modder wet dream". It was just amazing and hillarious.
There's no way the devs weren't inspired by Warhammer 40k with that chainsaw mech, that's just straight up a fucking Imperial Knight. I think I'm gonna have to pick this up just for that part alone
The Burner raygun is pretty much a Volkite weapon. Its beam heats up enemies so much that they explode, dealing damage to everyone near.
It really is amazing what modding and passion can do when done correctly.
The guys who made this should work on SS5
The story just kinda begins in the middle of nowhere because it actually follows after the second to last level in Serious Sam 4. General Brand revealed himself a dickhead, grabbed the false Grail and Sam to hand over to Mental so he can join him. Sam escaped and is now chasing after him so he can put a bullet in his head, or preferably a cannon ball. Boom, context given. That's all that's needed.
Another thing that i want to mention without giving away any spoilers, this game easily has the best final boss in the entire series. Period. No question about it. It's such a fun fight and extremely difficult if you're playing on Serious, like i was on my first run.

Btw, the story takes place between the penultimate level and the final level of SS4. In fact, at the very start of the first level of Siberian Mayhem, if you turn around, you can see the giant oil rig from SS4.
If that's the case, how tf is Brand still alive at the end of Serious Sam 4 when he summons Ugh-Zan?

the intro reminds me of the older Second encounter, where your in the jungle and you pick up the chainsaw then the shotgun then a sniper, also love the throwback to the frogs

if the team that make this expansion wanna make a new expansion or a new game, I think they really should bring us back to the ancient time setting (like TFE and TSE) the colorful level of TSE was really beautiful and charming. (maybe with the 2000's aesthetic soundtrack too)

I cover a lot of good games. Those videos get less views over all. People mostly want to see bad games which kind of sucks. My best videos are of good games. Halo 3, boneworks, F.E.A.R. extraction point, etc
Haven't really noticed the stutters for me but I guess it might be an engine issue? I feel it'll get better as the fixes roll out, as you say
That aside, I'm having a grand time with it so far & it's been a really pleasant surprise saying that. Also, honourable mention to Damjan and the music team, I really enjoyed the soundtrack for this one

That laser weapon + music @ 8:42 = the ultimative MDMA for me! Despite those flaws, the game is already bought!!!

It's the same animation as the outro. It's art I personally commissioned of my dragon who certainly does not look like loki lol
Convinced that Croteam should just collab with the community for their next game. Sam hadn’t seen much in the way of real progression since Next Encounter, but this game managed to do it. The structural issues, the gameplay issues, and even the characterization of pretty much everyone other than Sam - all fixed. They addressed pretty much every issue the franchise has had for over a decade pretty much flawlessly, imo
Talented, passionate fans often guide struggling franchises out of their worst periods - and I’d love for that to be the case with Sam.
i recently got cod4, cod4 mwr, and bo1, and i've noticed in bo1 campaign at least, that when you reach a new section in a map there's like half a second of stutter, which i asume is the game loading more assets into the level or saving at a checkpoint, even though im on a i7 9700 and an rtx 2070 with all my games on a 2 TB Samsung t5 portable ssd, not sure what the ram is other than having 16GB of ram, and my os is on a 256GB nvme, idk if it's m.2. my pc is an alienware aurora r9.

Needs optimization updates, but it's a great expansion. I didn't really like SS3, and skipped 4, but so far Siberian Mayhem on Hard is a really sick Serious Sam experience. I could do with fewer cutscenes, and rather have scenes play out Half-Life style. But the side quests are great, and dual wielding Kalashnikovs is blissful...

Hey brother you put up some great videos. I love the brother’s in arms games so I thought id throw you a bone. Try spec ops: the line I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the campaign. One of the best campaigns in any shooter in my opinion. Thanks for videos man and take it easy
Strange, I'm on a 1060 and streamed on OBS and had none of the weird stuttering issues. Maybe it's not optimized for newer hardware?
I played the originals on the 360.so much fun.
New patch is live and suposedly fixed micro stutters, i cant test it out as i never had this problem
as a trophy hunter i earn the plat and delete and move on. but honestly with this game the best part of it all is the trophy for getting any medal on the kleer fortress survival and i keep this game installed specifically so i can play that every once in a while

did your opinion on SS4 changed after many of the patches that fixed a lot of the problems it had? And if you still don't like it, why?
As someone who bought it at launch in 2020, I stopped playing because of how janky it was. I recently started playing it again and nope. Less stuttering but holy hell the amount of visual glitches and borderline broken cutscenes…a damn shame.

What difficulty would you recommend to someone new to the series/what do you play on?
I started on normal on the first encounter. I did not enjoyed and almost quit. Start easy
I will recommend starting directly from Serious difficulty. It may hit you hard at the start, but it is really rewarding after you make it through first few level.

I've actually NEVER played the Serious Sam series, I don't think I'm geared towards that kind of fast paced game
History on a FPS is not important, I think that history is only important for games like Heavy Rain for example
to clear up the misconception in the comments croteam still made this game with timelock it wasnt a one studio thing or a sonic mania situation where only the modders made the game
Croteam supervised the game. It was still made almost entirely by the modders with a bigger budget. It's similar to what valve and tripwire has done in the past.
Serious Sam is a First Person Smash TV... that's all it needs to be everything else is fluff. Croteam dropped the bomb on SS4 this expansion softened the blow just a little bit.

This is by far one of the best fps’s in a long while that game me nostalgia like hell. Aside from Doom Eternal I love this expansion of serious Sam more then 4 which was a disappointment

I want to like SS4, but the aiming is so bad on console. It's so clunky, and switching weapons is even clunkier. Oh, and the god damn audio is so glitchy. I can't tell what direction enemies are coming from at all, and the volume will suddenly jump up and be nearly deafening.

Altho i haven't played these newer SS games, i must say i dislike visual style they went with. Since SS3 these games have had that "the most generic modern shooter" aesthetic ever. Kinda shame, because this looks fun.
