4:10 - "a lot of these shampoos are a little on the drying side, so if you actually have a dry scalp, and not dandruff, these might make your dry scalp significantly worse" - it always, always ends this way. These shampoos are extremely drying, I tried every single one in my country. I need to use diluted gentle shampoo every 1.5-2 days, Squalane before, and sometimes after on the most dry areas, once a week Piroctone Olamine anti-dandruff shampoo. And if it's really bad, like I get these red itchy patches, then I need to shave my hair off, and use Ciclopirox Olamine cream with Dexeryl moisturizer. Keeping my hair would lead to more dryness and more inflammation patches. I'm so so jealous of people using strong shampoos, always double cleansing, and not a single dryness issue. I'm 90% sure it's all linked, people prone to Seb Derm will get flare ups once their skin barrier is compromised, even when their sebum production is under control. It almost looks like companies formulating these anti-dandruff shampoos want people to be in this never ending vicious circle. Can't it be in form of a paste, gel, or even conditioner? I only saw Sulsena doing this (paste, or shampoo-paste - not drying at all, easy to apply), but I developed sensitivity to the preservative they use (DMDM Hydantoin), so can't use it anymore :(
Thank you Dr. Dray for educating us! I do have dandruff since I was a kid. Back at home (Romania) a dermatologist doctor told me to wash my hair only once a week. At that time all the dandruff shampoos made my hair very greasy, I hated it. I only use Tresemme deep clean clarifying shampoo for years, it helps but it's not clearing up the dandruff.
Cutting out hot showers made the biggest difference for my dandruff. I used to insist that hot showers increased my quality of life, but realized it was actually causing me to itch all through the night and day. Itchy eyes, itchy nostrils, itchy beard, itchy eyebrows, itchy scalp, toes, shins, knees, crack, you name it, hot showers made everything dry and itchy. The quality of life increase actually came from cutting hot showers. I’m so sorry to say. And I’m not taking cold showers, either. Just straight boring room temp.. and I also somehow sweat less and stink less too. YMMV, but consider it. Anyways… love the neutrogena t/sal shampoo.
I started using the Dove Anti-Dandruff shampoo you recommended before, and I LOOOVE it!! It's been my go to ever since!! This is gonna sound silly, but The Breakfast Club made me think that dandruff looked bright white and fine like actual snow, therefore my more yellow clumpier scaly bits had to be something else. 💀😂 I never considered what I had was actually dandruff until you covered it on your channel. Dang Breakfast Club!! 😂 But now I use that Dove shampoo as my main shampoo. It clears up everything! I used to be so ashamed of my hair and how "dirty" it looked. All this time not treating it because I thought it had to look like snowflakes!! Ahh!! 😂💓 Thank you Andrea!! Truly!!
Have you ever considered doing a video for No Shave November? The bro science on TH-cam with creators like Dan C Bearded telling men to never use moisturizers because they contain water and instead use oils and butters, his advice for beardruff, etc. It's not just him. It's every beard influencer!
@@SchlichteToven Good question. Scalp and facial skin care differ. It's more about men's skincare. Breads don't get oily like head hair. Beards tend to get too dry, but most men don't know how to fight hygral fatigue. Some of us co-wash; most of us would use soap over shampoo; but the current fad is dedicated beardwashes and to bash brand name products. My beard is literally two feet in length. Usually I use try various beard washes, head hair conditioner but avoid making contact with the conditioner to my face (and scalp), and sometimes use an oil starting from the skin and comb it down the follicles. Now we have guys using beard oil/butter like a body cream. In November, many men start a beard from scratch and suffer with a lot of irritation. The internet is weird like that.
@황예지-m4p they believe moisturizer is bad because its main ingredient is water. They believe water it's a scam, and the water will evaporate. They want people to use beard butter and beard oil as a total body moisturizer. That's how bad the bro science is.

I went in to see a dermatologist and she prescribed a solution to rub on my scalp every day because the keto conozole shampoo that my doctor prescribed wasn’t getting rid of the dandruff. After a week of using the solution the dandruff and flaky scalp finally stopped. I was dealing with it for a year.

Agreed! A rude hairstylist suggested I had it in the same way (said its scalp is oily and the rest is dry suggesting combination mostly because my main stylist said to give me three washes), I’ve checked myself and it’s more dryness (even hairspray applied onto my scalp with time makes it produce negative effects & that’s from their salon products 🥴 but it’s really just dryness from their blowout and hairspray as they don’t apply serum onto my scalp thankfully because it does get weighed down when applied/ Serums are Oil-based but I noticed better results with using Silicone-based serums :) which is commonly products that work as thermal protection/heat protectant factor serums). Using the right products, doesn’t give me those reactions as much, and two, observing for myself, it’s dry because it’s webbed into the skin & scalp naturally (true indicator of dryness). Which is called scaly but it’s just a natural dry patch that can be restored. ❤ Definitely don’t trust them over your best analysis for yourself.
