Good to see inertia get a little crazy when she didn’t get her morning walk. My pup does that too. I thought it was abnormal lol also loved Bree in front to the camera. Ah, yes, my extensive education in canine and feline behavior and decade of experience in veterinary medicine, as well as my Fear Free Certification, totally do not qualify me to critique someone who clearly doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to practical life skills. I'll just be staying in my lane doing cooperative care training and counter conditioning fear, anxiety, and stress while also preventing those in the every day lives of pets. :)

I was kinda surprised I thought they'd be just fine but bree and inertia were totally in sync....in some places it's almost like inertia was like "okay daddy's not home so I have to be extra good for mommy " lol
I was really impressed...I'm still trying to figure out is inertia compassionate, is she protective of bree..,did she sense she had to behave well while dad was gone...do bree and inertia just gel like that? Its interesting..,she even would wait without bree asking.,,border collies are crazy smart. I actually didnt think inertia would take advantage of bree...I just felt in my gut she was gonna be good.
But I feel bree is underestimated...I think she knows more training then she let's on.

Mine is not a foodie at all and so treat training isn't the best. I use a toy out and about, but feel as though it has become a distraction technique more than positive reinforcement. Any tips? Oh yay, intermediate park! She did great in this setting, looked like a challenge level that was just about right for her, especially since you left a large distance from the most exciting distractions. My question is this: Do you think doing the downtown work before you did this park session was productive in the training process, or counterproductive? I tend to personally try for (and instruct clients to try for) this level of challenge, while avoiding the French Quarter level of challenge (based on overall success rates and attention to trainer) as so difficult as to be likely to be counterproductive because the success rate is so much lower. In retrospect, would you do those sessions in the same order, or do something different if you could do it all over again?
Always nice to see Bree, and she has top notch skills herself.

    • @zakgeorge
      @zakgeorge  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Well, the point of this session was more about doing some actual training whereas, the downtown environment was more about introducing and desensitizing her. So the two lessons had different primary objectives, though both lessons had a little of each! Fantastic question!

Hello, I am a new puppy owner his name is Cosmo and he is 10 months old. When I take my puppy for walks he tends to pull a lot, do you have any suggestions on how I can stop this? Or should I get a longer leash since he gets so excited. I don't think he likes feeling restricted. Also do you have any suggestions on how I can stop my puppy from jumping around on other people and me, say for example when I'm walking him.

Would going to dog parks and staying outside them but in view of other dogs help with her being distracted by them? I was thinking about how the more normal or frequently it happens the less interesting it is. So if I wanted to make dog less interesting would more exposure at a distance act as a desensitization?

When my boxer was 6-7 months old I was using a long lead in the park while playing ball. I used a long lead all the time for management and training and it works so well. This time the leash wrapped around my foot (without me noticing), I threw the ball, she took off...and I was pulled off my feet and broke my arm and dislocated my knee. Lesson: long leads are useful for training, but be careful.🙃💓

Hey Zak! My dog won't react to treats outside the house... He only cares about the surroundings and smells. Even when I get him to do something for me and give him a treat, he oftenly just spits it out, even though I don't feed him before walks. When I try playing fetch with him, he oftely goes for the toy but changes direction halfway and goes to smell something. This is so annoying, I used to train him according to your videos since he was 3 months old and it went perfectly, I was so amazed with his behavior. But now, when he's 1 year old, I can't get him pay attention to me at all!

Hi, Zak. Been using your videos to train my dog and it's going really well. Thank you for that! I may have missed something, though, because I'm curious as to why you have such a long leash you have to keep collecting, instead of using something like a heavy duty retractable leash?

Stumanji retractable leashes are dangerous for the person using it and the pet

He uses retractables, too, in other videos. I don't what his exact choice criteria are - but depending on the situation, a drag leash is easier to operate. For example, if you want to throw a frisbee with both hands, you just drop the leash, and it's already unfurled - whereas you have to hold the button on a retractable until the dog has reached the end of its tether.
Also, if you think you might need to use a second hand to haul in a larger, over-excited dog, I DEFINITELY prefer a wider drag leash! The skinny line on a retractable is a great way to get rope burn!

My dog does the same thing with other dogs nearby. He loses focus and worst of all, whines very loudly. I’ve been working with him a lot but wondering if anyone has any advice!

Would you please, please tell me why Inertia is subjected to wearing a harness whilst she is confined in a pen in your house? Is it absolutely necessary or is it just for your convenience, to save you having to remove it and refit it when exercising her? It looks tight on her. You said how she’d grown during your absence. Didn’t you ask that Bree check it whilst you were away, to see if it required adjustment?

We take her harness off all of time and adjust it as needed. Good question! Thanks!

Zak George’s Dog Training Revolution. Thank you for your reply but it doesn’t answer my question. Please tell me why you leave Inertia wearing a harness while she is confined in a pen? Your less knowledgeable viewers might think it’s ok for their dog to wear a harness all the while.
