This is how youtube used to be. Someone just filming their project and updating it whenever they feel like. No schedule, no algorithm, just someone doing something interesting and letting others watch.
How sad that you do not show us every step of your ruin excavations. You have done so many amazing things during this 5 months period! And you show us just 8 minutes of the result of your huge work. Please show us everything without editing with fast speed! Thank you in advance!!!
A reciprocating saw could make short work of separating those roots from the trunk. If a blade gets dull you can just switch it out. Also, you can choose a rather aggressive blade and a long one. Everything looks great, and I always look forward to your next episode. 👍
Tree stumps and roots can really put a Full Stop on a project. It's a shame we can't train termites to just break down areas we want cleared out. 😉 Good luck and don't freeze. 👍
Aha! I found you, a good while back, and then lost track of you until just now, when The Algorithm coughed up this new video! Happy New Year! Glad to see you again! 🎉
Hello Afon. Greetings from Montreal. Happy New Year !! I was thinking as I was watching today, have you ever thought about getting someone with a drone, kitted with a lidar package, to fly over your land and see what under the whole lot and its surround ?? There are many archeological projects going on around the UK, I wonder if anyone would be interested in looking into the entire property ?? Every video is another layer of story to the reveal. Nice to see you again.
I actually like the bit by bit reveal. It’s like a treasure hunt. Knowing what’s all there kind of takes the fun out of it and just becomes dirt removal, IMHO.
Thanks for the update, as always you seem to instinctively know what is the right approach, though I'm sure you give it due thought and consideration ! I love the fact that throughout you are considering the evolution of the site and where possible re-using material and minimising waste, I try to do this myself and have a policy of nothing leaving our plot that might later be bought back in ! it's difficult in these winter months when progress is limited but the spring will be here soon and progress will blossom too !
Happy New Year..great to see you back! Have you carved your name and date under the bottom of the gate yet, for future “finders”? Like a time capsule. Amazing work as always. Thanks. 👍🏻
Happy to view this most recent episode! It appears that you have quite a few projects planned for 2025. I look forward, as usual, to see your weekly progress as you completely transform the back of you property. Any plans for a fireplace near the pizza oven?
OOoof what a job. The roots are the worst since they do not go straight but wind their way through the path of least resistance. Hopefully it warms up well for you to get on with the place. Can't wait!
Thanks for the update - your projects are fascinating. When restored your home will be amazing and very special. Happy to receive updates when you have time. Don't feel pressured to deliver videos to please the algorithum. Happy new year from the western edge of the M25 . . . it has been cold recently !
What a lovely surprise! Lucky for me that you live there because where I am in Canada my ground has been frozen like a rock since the beginning of October and unlike to thaw before May. I wish I could do something landscaping right now! I don’t know how much you make off of TH-cam but I hope it at least covers your chainsaw parts! Happy New Year and wishing you the best in 2025! 😊
Happy to see you again. Cold weather is not an ideal time to work outside. But things are looking better each time. Really like your new gate you built.
Cool! Second stump looks funny with all these holes in it. It would be a nice decoration in a park, could also serve as an "insect hotel". However, not so useful in the country. Oh, digging in the winter... I want a cup of hot tea when I just think about it. What a dedication! I hope you'll not catch a cold.
Happy New Year! It is nice to see you. I hope you are doing well. I think we are all ready for warmer weather at this point! You have made incredible progress. It's so much fun seeing what you have uncovered. 😊
The saw that you used to put the curve in of the gate could also be used to cut through roots. That way it would not be going through stones with your chainsaw.
Thanks Afon. I have a very similar albeit smaller version of your ruins that im dealing with at the moment. its very interesting watching you and reassuring to me as im dealing with mine in a very similar manner
Hi Afon, good to see you again, your gate is really perfect and the stonework is looking amazing. Hope the weather improves so that you can tackle those stubborn tree roots. I wish you success with your project in the coming months, looking forward to it.❤
Happy New Year Afon. Yes, it’s been freezing hasn’t it. Wonderful to watch and catch up on your plans for the coming months. Living on Bodmin moor I know all about farmers and their mucky tractors on narrow roads, but we wouldn’t be without them would we!
Oh happy day! I love watching your videos. I’m an architecture geek so this all intrigued me. My daughter went to Scotland recently and visited lots of ruins. She went to our family castle.
A bit out there, but have you ever thought about getting a HIGH pressure hose on it…? Run it thru a water bowser or similar, like the guys that do all the jet washing volgs. Just a thought. Great work by the way.

So sick of the garbage, political gaslighting, dishonesty & hate that is spread on utube.
This is a genuine enjoyable video ❤
Thank you
@@schmitty8225 so true. I miss when the majority of videos seemed more wholesome
This is such an enjoyable project to watch! I’m loving it!
KEEP US POSTED!!!

Might be worth throwing some stone down by the road to keep your beautiful gate clean! Please keep these going - it's really inspiring to watch these
I was thinking dig out the verge, but I think the tyres pick up so much dirt, which gets sprayed around when wet, it may not make a difference.

Good to have you back and showing us your hard work. Am intrigued as to how the tree stump will turn out.😊

@@ruadhscottygirl2480 Yeah, I agree. I just thought I'd ask, in any case. I love a good treasure hunt too.
Good to see you chugging away at this project. Can't wait for more interesting finds!

A sawzall with a long wood metal ax blade will work best
Happy New Year..great to see you back!

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to more as your time and the weather allow.
When you need to do some cutting of roots instead of your chainsaw look into getting cheap throwaway aggressive 12” sawzall blades.
It is progress! Thanks for the update! :) Happy New Year!
Good to hear from you. Arry on, sir. 😊

Maybe try an angle grinder with a grinding wheel for cutting the root off the stump?
So glad you are back with new content!!!
Thanks for the update. Happy New Year ❤

Happy New Year. I am delighted to see you at work on your derelict cottage. You are going to have a very fine living area when you have finished.

Thanks for the update, I love watching your progress! From (cough hack) smoky Southern California
This has been such a wonderfully intriguing journey to follow. I was happy to see this video posted....it's been a while.

Great to see you back again. Also glad the gate remains. Did that first beautiful big one get stolen?
Love your videos! I like the sped up parts. U should watch sb mowing and add more of that, it’s very satisfying

Nice to have an update on your project, can't wait to see some more come the better weather, Happy New Year 🎉
Steel wedges & sledgehammer might help chip away at that stump. Project is looking great!
Happy New Year from Palm Springs CA!
Wonderful to see !

Your videos are wonderful👍🙂
What happened to the first gate you made? I thought it was terrific.
small controlled fire on that root? small!!
lol n/m
Good to see you again been awhile 😊
I'm using lime mortar as well. April onwards.
Thanks for the update!
Happy new year and thanks for the update!

Why don't you use angle grinder on the stump instead of wasting chains?
A reciprocating saw would be an option as well.
Why not just stand the stones from the mound in the room floor you have cleared out so your not moving then X amount of feet extra?? 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Afon, how old do you think these ruins are?
have you spoke to local heritage/council they could have photos or other history to better date the building
É isso ai Afontinhas!!
👍👌👏
Buy a metal detector in case there is an old coin in that ruin.
a question... have you heard of air lance or air spade? would those tool make your work easier?
00:51 You're making a cube, aren't you
Are you not concern about people breaking in with having a low gate?
🪓💪🏻🤗👍🏻
