I was going to ask why they closed Chipping Norton station. There were a few station that haven’t change much from yesterday to today. Still great viewing. According to Wikipedia, it was originally named Wardell Rd station when the Sydenham to Belmore line was opened in 1895. It was then renamed Dulwich Hill station in 1920. I grew up in the area, and I always wondered why the suburb of Dulwich Hill had two distinct shopping centres - one at this station, but another, larger, more prominent one centred around the intersection of New Canterbury Road and Marrickville Road. Now I believe I know why - The suburb of Dulwich Hill and it’s shops originally developed and were centred around the Canterbury Rd/Marrickville Rd intersection. Independently of this, the Wardell Rd overpass area quickly grew in prominence as a shopping/commercial area after the opening of the station at that site in 1895. When the station name was changed to “Dulwich Hill” in 1920, the suburb, effectively overnight, had two separate shopping centres/commercial districts, about one kilometre apart !! What’s still puzzling though, is the reason for the name change.
