You may or may not believe this but after I bought my 1000-5 and we splashed through the deep water and had to stop for 20 mins to de-fog the windshield and then got cooked rump roast at 375 for 4 hours in June I came up with a solution that may shock you. I made a heat shield that goes right under the seat between the frame and seat cushion. Out of what you may ask. Well I’m glad you did. A sun shade car window sun blocker. Ya know those annoying things people put in the front window of the car when the park in a mall parking lot for 9 hours at a time. Yep. Sun shade and some black gorilla tape. Solved every issue we had. And used the left overs to cover the hump in the back seat. Took maybe 30 mins and cost me a roll of gorilla tape. The sun shade thing was a gift I never used. Win win now it’s not I’m trunk taking up space anymore.
I'm happy it helped ... Here in Canada I never have a passenger in the middle and up hear in the winter it is great lol. I do have 2 important complaints about my 1000-5 .... I did not get the limited because I wanted Honda red ... Meaning no cargo nets below the dash and you can't even order them as they are different boooo lol The second one can be costly at any time . Take a look at the dash and the configuration of the two big levers on it . I've done this once ... You can't see them at night so your fumbling around just like trying to turn my high beams to low as courtesy or extra lighting etc ... I was cruising along at speed and wanted to go from 2wd to 4wd .... But in the dark I grabbed the wrong one ... That same pattern shifted my rig from High to Reverse . Change Tranny oil ... No metal ... It survived . But Honda should provide some simple lighting or something ... Thanks for all you videos your a funny man 👍😎
I have the Pionneer 1000-3, 2017. Yes it gets too hot in there as stock if outside temp is higher than 70 F. I installed a after market aluminum heat shield under the whole seat and part way up the back. Still too hot, heard about the Honda fix, took it in and they put this rubber blanket in on top of my heat shield, better but still when the outside temp is 80 its way too hot. Opened the back soft curtain and that relieved some of the vacuum caused by the windshield and roof somewhat but its still too hot in the summer. I also get the scalding when going thru deep water, and the window fogs up, still do. I don't see a fan doing much good, what Honda needs to do is engineer a complete sealed tub from front to back all the way up to the roof. Leo in Montana
My 2016 had the Honda kit installed and it was still way too hot for any weather in Arizona - this is a poorly thought out band-aid. I initially tried to make my own heat shield with very limited results. I am now in the process of installing a bilge blower and the DEI heat shields. I did not buy the DEI fan kit but decided to make my own for a lot less money. When you look at it, the only solution is to get the hot air out of that area - it is fully trapped by the poor design (heat always rises Honda). There is little to no airflow in the cylinder head and exhaust header area - any air coming from the front is preheated by the radiator.
Only had it a year then sold it for a Yamaha Wolverine X4. I have since upgraded to Yamaha Rmax1000-4. Yamaha’s are better in every way. Hated the jerkiness of the transmission and it was impossible to use in auto as it always search for the right gear but never found it…lol. And the heat from the pioneer would get the roll bars between the rear and the front hot enough to almost burn your hands. After having the wolverines I’d never go back to a pioneer.
@@AppalachianMountainRiders thank you for the reply. I also owned the wolverine X2 850 a couple years ago but I end up selling it so now looking for something with turf mode so I was considering either the Ranger 1000I or the pioneer. I’m only in the market for a slightly cheaper model. I was even considering the new pioneer 520 due to its smaller size if I had to pick one without turf mode option. How satisfied were you with your 500 pioneer. Did it have plenty of power for its size? Thanks
I do hope this helps as i just had mine installed. For the rear seat steam how about jamming a pool noodle between the box and seat back? just a thought....
Sorry if this is off topic, I am about to do my first maintenance service on my 700-4 pioneer. Do you recommend me taking it in to inspect the valve clearance with a oil change? They want 350 bucks to inspect it. What do you think?
What about when adding the bilge pump fan could you put a vent into the front compartment that could be closed off in warm months but open in cold months to use the heat.
There have been several guys that have done this. They wire the fan to blow heat away from the cab in summer then have it bow heat into the cab for winter. Works good that way!
Do you hear a lot of complaints from “3” drivers? I have a couple hundred miles on mine and I don’t really have any excessive heat issues. A little steam when I really blast a big puddle, but nothing terrible. 🇺🇸👍
Mike Yerke not many. Most of the complaints come from the 5 owners. I know that some 1000-3 owners that I’ve herd complains about heat was able to just remove part of the engine cover and it completely solved it by allowing more air flow. Can’t do that with the 1000-5 though.
I have a honda rancher 420 and I was wondering if you knew of any way to get it to ride smoother. The only affordable shocks are bronco shocks, do you know if those are any goods? Would good trail tires fix that?
That’s the thing. East coast riding is slow, and technical. Lots of weaving through the woods on narrow trails. That’s where the heat is really noticeable.
Haha I’ve been good! I’ve been looking for a way to close up my pioneer and keep heat in and found this video and knew it right off haha I could never forget ya, you’re the reason I made it through with decent grades haha. How have you been?
I'm doing fantastic. If you're looking for vids on the Pioneer I've started my TH-cam career on mostly just that...lol. if your looking for a way to seal up your Pioneer, I'm working on getting an aluminum enclosure for my 1000-5 from Alumilite Armor. If all goes well I'll have an install and review vid up for it soon. Not sure which pioneer you have but they make one for the 500 and 1000. Not sure about the 700.
I bought a 1000eps about 2 years ago. Love it except for the air leaks. And not really looking to put hard doors on it since I like the soft cab for summer riding. Will keep an eye out for the video and future videos
AppalachianMountainRiders 4 bad things I've noticed in the Kawasaki Teryx 4 is lack of factory accessories especially a cab heater, excessive noise, excessive Heat, and the ride quality could be better it's a little stiff!
BANDAID!!! This machine is so freaking hot it is impossible to use in any weather other than freezing. piss poor engineering on Honda's part. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

Good job explaining things on the 1000-5
I love my full cab comfort kit
How satisfied have been with the Pioneer 1000? I’m considering purchasing A new one. Any pros & cons would be great.

Jason Taylor the pool noodle is a great idea and might do the trick! I have several not fit to go back into the pool So I’ll give it a try.
I would not do that. I did try to foam the seat gap between the front and rear. Caused the motor to over heat.
Great video and info

Do you have any videos on the engine overheating issues with the pioneer 1000-5. no leaks, uses coolant....cant find much help in this area.
I've got the bilge that works fair. But the aftermarket heat shield works the best for me

Skip the noisy bilge fans. Go buy a 7 or 8" automotive fan. They move way more air, are far quieter, and frankly just worked better. I had both...
Thanks gpsjetskier, I’ll definitely check into those before I buy a bilge fan!
Cool beans. 🙃
crazy.. i have a 2016 1000-5. i live in vegas. i'll go out at 90. no big deal? drive anywhere. but i'm always moving at decent clip.
That’s the thing. East coast riding is slow, and technical. Lots of weaving through the woods on narrow trails. That’s where the heat is really noticeable.
Is this a problem with the 700 as well?
Not as bad
Is there anyway you went to triangle tech in the years 2002-04?
Frank! I did. How ya been?
Haha I’ve been good! I’ve been looking for a way to close up my pioneer and keep heat in and found this video and knew it right off haha I could never forget ya, you’re the reason I made it through with decent grades haha. How have you been?

I’ll be traveling around a bit here in 2018 for my channel. We’ll have to meet up some time for a ride!
Just bought a 2020 1000-5, do they come with this factory now?
Yep. 18+ model years has the cabin comfort kit installed from the factory. Not that is does much...lol.
Kawasaki should take a lesson from Honda and offer that for their customers cuz I have a Teryx 4 and it is hot as hell in there in the summer!!!!
That’s what I’ve notice, and noisier than the Pioneer as well. It beats the Pioneer for comfier seats though.
AppalachianMountainRiders 4 bad things I've noticed in the Kawasaki Teryx 4 is lack of factory accessories especially a cab heater, excessive noise, excessive Heat, and the ride quality could be better it's a little stiff!
I have a 17 terxy also and I completely agree with you it's ridiculously hot
What are your thoughts on the 700 pioneer?
Scientific term @ 3:00 = "crap-ton"
You will burn up in a pioneer 700.!!reconsider until they change it. Great machine, just eay too hot.
BANDAID!!! This machine is so freaking hot it is impossible to use in any weather other than freezing. piss poor engineering on Honda's part. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!
Lol too funny voice over not so good lol
