This guy is one of the only SB guys I've ever come across that is not just stone cold. The SB guys I've worked with are a different breed. I'm astonished he was so candid.

Huge respect for them, but they tend to be pretty scary guys. Edit: Some of the stuff they do is terrifying for any average Joe. It takes a special kind of person.
I think that is the point with British elite and special forces. In having brains more if not as much as brawn as most of the people who did it and are popular appear. So it’s deceiving.
Jocko is loving the acute and matured authorship of this guy. They both recognize how informed a soldier of thier caliber is. This is something to watch.

@mdr 138 i mean i wouldn't say more capable than the American troops but we're pretty close. They have much more experience at this point than any other unit's. Especially their 2 main units(Devgru and Delta) mate
Glad you got home safe mate. The government treat or forces like shite... We have a a bloody great big Aircraft Carrier with no aircraft to launch from it and send soldiers to war zones without enough rounds to get them out of trouble.

Ex British Armed Forces myself, and also a Johnny-come-lately to Jocko's channel, as I only came across it quite by chance at the beginning of last year, but it does surprise me that his channel doesn't have - at the very least; twice the amount of subscribers that it does. Having watched quite a few of his videos now, it always impresses me just how polite and respectful he is towards his guests, whilst being very modest about his own military career too. It's refreshing - and it is also a lesson that some other youtube hosts should learn, to let the guest lead the conversation, and to not interrupt constantly.
This is my favourite jocko podcast now! This guy seems to have alot of story to tell, i would sit with him drinking beers and jst listen to him. Sounds like a funny guy and makes me regret even more not joining the military when i was young
Loved the humble understatement of this interview. To just skip over a career in the SBS for the operational security of those serving currently. Where others may have told tall tales. To excel at everything you have done and keep powering on. To lose a life that you love and just create a new one. To fight the Army and win. To sit with prime ministers and princes after doing a battalions worth of exfil. To then go on and create a challenge that is so daunting, only to move goalposts continually...and still succeed. Great interview.
The idea that anything he would say would harm the operational security of active SBS guys is pure fiction. It's never happened. He simply doesnt want to get attacked and shunned by the community. If you're not going to talk about it, when it's the reason why you have a seat at the table, you shouldn't even be going on podcasts.
@@TonioD49 not really. He doesn’t want the SBS to become the new DEVGRU, but he still has valuable insights. Saying that he was apart of the SBS and talking about what he did there are very different things. It validates much of what he says and claims, while not revealing too much.
SAS are amazing , in desert 🏜 , cockshell heroes, truly hard men , after this SBS were quite , and never got hardly any Ops , but after 91 everyone is ONE ☝️, The best by a mile
I watched this whole thing. These are some of the most amazing human beings on the earth. Trained operators talking shop as if talking about stuff on tv. So much more interesting than anything on tv.

It's amazing some of the missions and stuff he was doing was "just" in 3 commando brigade. The Royal marines, paras etc are what many would call SF in some countries. Elite
Well.. in case you haven't heard they are bringing out a new spec ops force in the British Army I think they are going to be rangers... and yet they're cutting the numbers down haha

I know after a long stint of quite a.. spend happy / debt happy government from 97 to 2010 I think, they got their fiscal stuff sorted by 2019. So they're trying to rearrange things to be more surgical. Which makes some sense in a smallish country during a global depression.
@@homosapien4833 nah. It's a "special operation" unit... Not special forces. Very deliberate wording. They will simply be a unconventional warfare unit since we dont have one. They are being sourced from the regular army units, so they are not going to be elite level soldiers suddenly. Highly doubt they will have to do anything close to as hard as p- company or commando course.

This man is such a savage his story is Awsome and there’s such a mystique around the SAS it’s Awsome to have a legit Regiment guy telling his story about his time in. I’m an American soldier with 4 deployment ms under his beaky and I listened to his story 3 times still cause it was so Awsome.

My Dad served at RAF Bassingbourn in the early to mid 60's on Canberra's. Leaving the forces after 22 years of feeling I was doing something worthwhile was traumatic. This was an awesome interview.

Stotty was my DS on my commando course in 2002, great instructor, was extremely well respected on the course for the reasons he mentioned in this podcast (same course as Captain fox) you could just tell he was going to be moving on up higher IE Special forces. Great to see he gets the recognition now for what he has achieved

Listened to this podcast a few times, and all I can say is what a combination of strength, determination and ability to adapt what a guest on the podcast, and is has given me a goal to strive for If an army royal engineer can become an SBS operative gives no one an excuse I can’t do it. Definitely changed my view and decision to join up 🤙
Great interview. Many recognisable squaddie adventures, courses and the banter. A few of our lads 'soldiered on' in Colchester and it helped put them on the right path. A guy said the sf stuff wasn't all bombs and bullets. One evening they did a 35000ft HO jump (fully kitted up) just to test heated gloves 🧤 then straight to the pub in a spangly seaside town🍺
Bizzare that I should stumble upon this video today. I was chatting to someone in the pub last night who was from the Surrey area and went to school with Dean Stott. I had never heard of the guy before last night and then this video pops up. Small world indeed.
Watched my first Jacko podcast this morning on the way to work , 100 mile round trip .. it was the Dakota Meyer podcast , can’t describe what I felt after hearing his story. The book excerpts really made the interview that much better. Can’t wait to listen to this tomorrow. There is something about the military that has always fascinated me. Maybe I was a soldier in a previous life … The courage it takes to donate your life to go out there , is something the average citizen takes for granted. Major respect to anyone that went over to that shit hole of a land and made it back. Honestly sorry for the shit you had to experience.
I did several cycles as an instructor in a scared straight program during my time as an infantry instructor. I fuckin loved it, to think you could get just one kid back on track made it all worth it. Very good feeling.

i was 25th ID infantry and did one year of combat in afghan, and i did a lot... so to hear someone like this great soul really makes me feel grateful for my time... this soul here was just made for the amount he did... fuck ya... cheers brother...
Drinking is or was a huge part of squaddie life. I'm 58 now and havent drunk for 2 years and can say hand on heart being in the army made it easier to become and alcoholic.
Especially if you were lucky enough to be posted to Germany with tax free booze, I literally cringe when I think back to how much we drank but was still ready for PT the following morning, mad times.
Sounds like you got it under control now. My mum died to the drink at Christmas (at 56) so I know how hard it is to quit. Must have taken huge strength to get those sober 2 years under your belt. Congrats dude, keep it up.
Do they have any program to address that in the military, or is still seen as manly to drink? My dad was a high functioning alcoholic in uniform, and it was the life that did it
@@pbrider5429 They do but it's not widely known about, there still is a big drinking culture in the Army and RN, it's almost frowned upon if you don't drink, I guess some things never change.

This man is such a savage his story is Awsome and there’s such a mystique around the SAS it’s Awsome to have a legit Regiment guy telling his story about his time in. I’m an American soldier with 4 deployment ms under his beaky and I listened to his story 3 times still cause it was so Awsome.

My Dad served at RAF Bassingbourn in the early to mid 60's on Canberra's.
Leaving the forces after 22 years of feeling I was doing something worthwhile was traumatic.
This was an awesome interview.
Did my basic training in Bassingbourn in 1997, Royal engineers.

Stotty was my DS on my commando course in 2002, great instructor, was extremely well respected on the course for the reasons he mentioned in this podcast (same course as Captain fox) you could just tell he was going to be moving on up higher IE Special forces. Great to see he gets the recognition now for what he has achieved

Listened to this podcast a few times, and all I can say is what a combination of strength, determination and ability to adapt what a guest on the podcast, and is has given me a goal to strive for If an army royal engineer can become an SBS operative gives no one an excuse I can’t do it.

Great interview. Many recognisable squaddie adventures, courses and the banter.
A few of our lads 'soldiered on' in Colchester and it helped put them on the right path.
A guy said the sf stuff wasn't all bombs and bullets. One evening they did a 35000ft HO jump (fully kitted up) just to test heated gloves 🧤 then straight to the pub in a spangly seaside town🍺

I did several cycles as an instructor in a scared straight program during my time as an infantry instructor. I fuckin loved it, to think you could get just one kid back on track made it all worth it. Very good feeling.

Drinking is or was a huge part of squaddie life. I'm 58 now and havent drunk for 2 years and can say hand on heart being in the army made it easier to become and alcoholic.
Especially if you were lucky enough to be posted to Germany with tax free booze, I literally cringe when I think back to how much we drank but was still ready for PT the following morning, mad times.
Sounds like you got it under control now. My mum died to the drink at Christmas (at 56) so I know how hard it is to quit. Must have taken huge strength to get those sober 2 years under your belt. Congrats dude, keep it up.
Do they have any program to address that in the military, or is still seen as manly to drink?
My dad was a high functioning alcoholic in uniform, and it was the life that did it
@@pbrider5429 They do but it's not widely known about, there still is a big drinking culture in the Army and RN, it's almost frowned upon if you don't drink, I guess some things never change.

Definitely was, just heard Dean mention Pristina. We spent 6 months there, I was 18 years old part of A Coy 1st bt Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. Jokko there's lots of stories like Deans mate lol. Happy to be part of your next one.
It’s so nice to hear REAL heroes give their experience, strength, and hope. To share their ups and downs and how they pushed through. It’s hard to remember that these men are only human, which means that we can all do this same thing, to one degree or another.
