Braving the deadly Snoqualmie pass in January during blizzard warning

- Chad drives from Seattle to Ellensburg over the Snoqualmie during a blizzard warning and multiple Snoqualmie Pass shutdowns. It took almost 4 hours and he didn't have chains, which were required at one point. It was driven in a 2017 Subaru Forrester.

Subarus are awesome in the snow. My parents are on their 3rd Suby, each with over 250K miles. Mom worked in Reno and lives in the Tahoe area at 6,000 feet where they get 30 feet of snow a year, never had to put chains on in 20 years of commuting to work. Only missed two days of work because of a blizzard. Never used chains.
Quite a drive!! Never knew that AWD need chains, too!

@@MogsAndDogs AWD does not counter what happens to tires when they get cold and encounter ice, unless you have studded winter tires chains are still a must in severe conditions like on Snoqualmie.
@RestoMog thank you and agreed. I looked into it and as far as wsdot is concerned, studded tires do not count if chains are required. You must install chains over the studded tires as well.
