    I can’t draw, I have never been able to. I drew 1 face and my goodness, it actually looked like something. I am not exaggerating when I say I cried. I actually have the courage to keep going. I am filled with gratitude.

      I couldn't agree more! I sat down and cranked out 4 quick sketches after this video. I sketched women's faces with Neocolor II, and they turned out SO SO CUTE AND FUN! I'm not a drawer, either, but these turned out so whimsical, and with such personality, it took my breath away because I didn't think and I used crazy colors and it just "happened".
      Kaarin, I'm so happy for you. Isn't this a BLAST???

    That was so great Sandi ! it obviously inspired a bunch of us. You make it so much fun and doable. It's really helpful to see you go through your own process of being unsure if something is gonna work --and then fooling with it and voila ! it turns into something you like . Because you're in charge of the filming and editing you could cut out the parts where you feel unsure and you could make it look like you always know exactly what you're doing every second. Instead you let us see the whole creative process !! Thank you once again. ( and just for the record , I'd definitely pay for these lessons! )

    • @sandihester

      Oh man Judy, what an encouraging comment to get - thank you so much! I'm so glad it's helpful to see the process - I have 2 reasons I want you guys to see the "messy" parts - 1. to see how the process works 2. to see that it doesn't always work. I really really really want you guys to see that we don't always create good stuff. And I want to show you guys what it looks like to still have fun painting even though you didn't create a master piece but created something more worthy of the trash can than the wall but ALL of it goes into the 'master pieces'.

  • @kr2112

    I watched it for a second time, in maybe twelve to twenty four hours, because it’s that good! Thank you!
    It’s funny, because I’m always afraid that by making up faces they will seem hollow to the viewer. But these feel familiar. Maybe it’s because the proportions are correct. When you talked about using something as a reference and then said from your paintings it made me wonder if those paintings are from a reference of a specific person from life or photo.
    Also, if you haven’t done it already, I hope you’ll make a similar video of figures, and even animals. But people for sure.
    Thank you!

    Love it ! Seems like you use your intuition a lot, when adding the colour. I am guessing there are no rules when doing that, except using complimentary colours to enhance the picture. Working quickly works well so as to block out that logical side of the brain that creates tightness. Too much thinking?? Ha ha. Just jump in and go for it. Thank you. 🥰

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Suzanne! I'm not sure I'm thinking about complimentary colors at all - yes, some intuition - but that comes from just knowing now (after years of painting) what I like. Maybe the main thing with color that I'm thinking about are 2 things - 1. value - if I need a "light" color (for skin or something) I look around at my lights in the box (referring to pastels here) and use what I have. 2. the second thing is to use what I've already used and move those few colors ALL around.

      Well thank you Laura!!!!! What encouragement! I steered clear of them for a long time too and then I just finally got over myself - I say that mainly because we'd be out and about somewhere and I'd want to sketch people but was too embarrassed and somewhere in doing this channel (hanging it all out there all the time) got me over it - I just worked on my 'self talk' and said "who cares - I'm never going to get better if I don't practice and if I do something bad well, then Grady and I will just laugh real hard over it and it will be worth the laugh". What Kind of ink did you use here? And why use ink instead of watercolor? Love the demo.

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also use watercolors or gouache at times - I was just in the mood to use ink. I use whatever inks I have - I have several different brands. Anything will work! I’m glad you enjoyed the demo! Thank you!

    Wow, this was amazing! I used to think I could not draw faces, now it’s like anything I put on a page, as long as it’s in roughly the right place it instantly looks like someone. This information was gold! And you made it all seem so simple and easy. Thank you so much for sharing this ❤️

    • @sandihester
      @sandihester  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! Yes the are really buttery - that's a good way to describe them - soft butter. Just in cast you don't know this -they don't dry all the way. Just would want you to know that before you purchased because they're not cheap.
