The 3 wheeled car selects A and B by differing the tone sent over the air. Ex it might use 1000hz to go forward, and 1500hz to go backwards, and 1300 and 1700 to turn left and right. The B setting might use 2khz to go forward, 2.5khz to go backward and 2.3 and 2.7 to go left and right. :)
I sawa new video and so happy to see a good length video, shame it was an easy fix as we do like to see you work hard. The aerial appears to be a portable radio aerial. I bought one a few weeks ago for £1.89, free delivery from Fleabay.
Boy,s and there Toy,s, nice fix on all of them Vince. As faor as A and B, all that happens is it switches in a fixed capasitor to change the frequency of the crystal by about anything up to 10 MHz.
Aw I quite like the three wheel version, been driving a three wheeler some eight years now and remains one of the most fun experiences in a car one can have and the turning circle of a Reliant is even better than a Mini's :)
Forgot to mention, LOVE Your vids, always gets me in mood of repairing something (I,m often rather lazy and have tons of stuff for repair at my "storage", lol. Thanks to this video mood.. I repaired old niko toyota hilux from early 90-s :) Has also "2 speed" controller and 9,6V bat, 2 gears. Few more things. 1) With 27mhz/40mhz/80mhz controllers.. Same MHZ don't mean it works, there's tons more variables. I somewhat collect RC-s and have plenty of 27/40 mhz stuff.. Like Niko peugeot 207 that should be simple 27mhz system.. yet it only works with its own controller ( tried at least 10-12 different 27mhz controllers). There's multiple bands, channels etc. 2) Cool looking but not very good rc-s can be quite fun. I have managed to upgrade some toy grades to proportional semi decent stuff (servos, esc-s and receivers can get for few eur in ali, controller can be bit more expensive) . Another thing I and many others to. Buy some decent chinese rc or broken one from good brand. Then retrofit cool looking cover on decent base (warning with nice hardcover.. If You but it on anything faster then 25-30kmh.. it will most likely be in pieces soon :). Have made some quite cool crawlers that way thou. 3) Even cheap rc-s are quite fun if they go fast and have more torque (warning, with small brushed motors, it can shorten life of brushes.. quite a bit). Its simple, but in 2S/3s li-ion battery (different from lipos, it usually don't burn down esc). Take elements from old laptop battery (these have usually many cells and stop working if even 1-2 die.. so there's generally 4+ ok ones). Need to solder 5 wires (2S, 3 for balance charger and 2 for car connector). Most of connector types can get aliexpress 10 for 1 eur or so. Believe me, these are much more fun then usual 1,5V batteries or low grade ni-mh/ni-cad. B3 balance charger for 2/3S should be around 5 eur.
I think you could solder these two aerials. It need of course some heat but should work really well. You could also punch these at the bottom end by hammer and a nail. I did it when i was a kid (both). Cheers Greg
Yes you are right about soldering the tw pieces , just need to file off some of the chrome plating until you get down to the brass .With tape you just know that someone is going to pull it a bit to hard and its in two pieces again , Solder it and its permanent
@@MrTarmonbarry I was curios about your name "Mr Tarmonbarry " . went to your profile and found the name "David Thomas " and a load of my uploads on your channel The reason i was curious is because there is a place in Ireland called Tarmonbarry , i know people there
It doesn't matter for toys, however on more pro type RC you always turn on the controller on first. Take it from an old model maker. Setting your model down for it to catch an errant signal and to take off at full speed to smash into a car or building. Fun times :p The newer digital stuff requires you turn on the transmitter first.
Highly depends :P With Tamya, Traxxas etc, yes controller first.. now when we get to chinese stuff... I have desert buggy (sold under few different name, xinelong, tosq etc).. If You don't read manual and turn on controller first.. Good luck with pairing it (goes only for first time, after that there's no difference what You turn on first). With most chinese 2,4ghz hobby ones, no difference whats turned on first (I mostly use flysky stuff and these work really well for what they cost). With many toy grade.. controller dont even have on/off switch.. its on when You move a stick on it XD
Yaaaaaaaaaaay! The last job lot was amusing, good luck with these cars. ☺️☺️. Oh, and keep up the good work fella! Edit: that bmw model might be a bit shit but it’s definitely fun.
I think the two setting r.c. car is switching between frequency modulation vs amplitude modulation of the signal. That way you have two different potential settings for the same frequency and it will let two cars of the same make race without interfering with one another
Dunno has anyone mentioned this but 9,6V nimh at 9,4V wont move anything :) 9,6V is emty voltage. If fully charged, should be 11,6V (if its 8cell, full charge of single element is 1,45V). Same goes for nicad, lipo, lion :)
I own a silverlit Ferarri Enzo model and i have to say, it works very well! Better than that bmw! And it works over bluetooth and its proportional, it wasn't that cheap but i got it for free
I think you can theoretically make any controller work with rc vehicles as long as the frequency is the same if you want to spend a bit more on a new controller if it was worth it. I thought maybe using a power pack instead of ordinary batteries would be more economical in the long run but if the voltage is lower would it not run as long? I remember when me and my mate bought an rc car from the same shop that were the same frequency and when the batteries in my car were run out I was able to hijack his car. but as for the BMW maybe a controller like the three wheeled car has would be the kind of controller that you would need as I agree the ones that only have full speed in either direction is annoying.
i think it doesn't need two crystals to run two different frequencies. putting a small capcitor in series or parallel (depending on the kind of crystal) shifts the resonance frequency of the circuit. maybe it works with an inductor as well, but i'm not sure on that. you can try finding out what the a/b switch is connected to.
I'm gonna assume that the Led on that controller was just connected in Parralel over the battery, with a resistor. That would explain why it lit up at 6v anyways. As for the frequency switching, I'm gonna assume that you're switching in a component that can perhaps modulate the frequency. It's always a way higher frequency crystal than necessary, because of how crystals work. I'm gonna guess they're using dividers from 40MHz to 20MHz perhaps? Something like an SN74HC112N or some other high frequency flip-flop?
You could probably just use antenna mount from the transmitter that you took telescopic part from and didn't need to look for a way to connect damaged bit with the donor. That way you would have full working assembly without hassle of fiddly work.
Regards to RC boats on water, if it's private owned you need permission, if there are no signs prohibiting the use of RC boats or the like, no local bylaws and it's a public area then you are perfectly fine to use RC boats and the like. Just don't go bothering or chasing any of the local wildlife whilst doing it.
That antenna comes from old TV antennas like this one: imgur.com/7xHZUxX Those little chinese bluetooth speakers, when they have FM Radio, also have those antennas with the side screw.
I wonder vince if you could of found a nut the same thread as the aerial and used some epoxy to set it into place in the old one so you could actually screw it In and out. Could of always ground the outside of the nut until it fit in too
Good idea Dave :-) I have been told in the comments that the cheap bunny ears (or rabbit ears) TV aerials have the same type of aerial. I have one of them somewhere :-)
I wonder if its is an aerial off of one of those tv top twin antenna as they tend to pivot.... after all China likes to use what they have especially in cheap toys..

On that RC car it has a straight axle there are no differentials I don't think you understand what differentials are when an RC car has differentials when you spin the wheel forward the other will spin backwards... I have hobby rc cars
I do as far as I understand it. Both the black BMW and the 2nd R/C car had differential on the back driven wheels. Spin one wheel forward the other goes backwards and vice versa. Also when you hold one and apply power the other will spin twice as fast. Just like the Tamiya models that I have. They weren't fixed axles like the really cheap r/c models have :-)
@@Mymatevince you can check for yourself your wrong I have the BMW and you can open it up and it will not have a differential it has a bar holding both tires together but they gear to make it spin if there was a differential then the tires would not be connected buy single bar

Great work as ever 🤩
Sweet!! I love it when you buy broken things that are goofy easy to fix lol your awesome and you deserve some quickies sometimes. Your channel rocks!

Good video. You're right about buying a higher budget RC car. I had the Tamiya Frog when I was a kid, it was so much fun putting that thing together.
