If there's anything life needs MORE of, it's waffles....literal ones, lol. Oh, also, don't trust those regular-grade bearings in the motor for too long, motor bearings are a higher grade, typically, but you probably know. Really liking your eBay course...starting to see some profits.
@MAD GRUMPYMAN Correction: motor bearings are SUPPOSED to be a higher grade....but with all the myriad chinese rubbish, bargain basement bearings are put into hobby grade motors all the time.
@MAD GRUMPYMAN I'm sorry if I sounded like that, I was agreeing with you. Isn't it sad how name brand items are made in China with all the cost-cutting that comes with it, while still charging name-brand prices? At least 10+ years ago, the Chinese stuff was cheap.
Found your channel after being out of the RC works for about 20 years. My 3 year old just got his first basic RC plane and I started to get the itch to buy another RC car after my last one (Yokomo YR-4). Stumbled across your channel and subscribed instantly. Of my 100+ subscriptions you’re already the one I look forward to most. This channel is simply TH-cam done right. Well done and thanks! 👍
I really like these quick rebuild videos. They motivate me to work on mine. I know it takes a long time and there is a lot of editing but you do a great job at it. Thanks for all the hard work and entertainment.
I just recently bought a used brushless 4x4 slash for 40 dollars!!! Even came with a 5000 mah 3s! I had to do this same thing! It had been abused and fixing it back up to what it’s supposed to be felt good! Now it’s my daily basher! Great video! 👍🏻
Awesome vid Kev, I really think a lot of people get plenty of unknown knowledge out of these types of vids even though a lot of them don’t mention it , as most people like to pretend they already knew what you just did , but in reality they really didn’t but need people to think their pros and know everything ! But awesome vid and Keep up the Great Work !! 👍✌️
Hi Kevin! I'm a long time fan but don't comment much because I haven't gotten into RC yet. I'm a gun guy with an extensive LE background and a hunter/woodsman/rockhound and when it comes to protecting things from water or moisture, I know a thing or two... If you have a product over there called "Break Free CLP", which you can find here in America in many Sporting Goods Stores, I highly recommend it for use on all of your RC bearings as protection against rust! I've had many of my handguns over the years exposed to rain, falls into rivers and creeks and have had blued steel handguns get soaked and not been able to tend to them for a day or two, which is plenty of time for water to form rust on untreated metal surfaces... Metal treated with Breakfree CLP (which our Military has been using for over 40 years) protects the metal against rust for several weeks and I would expect that this product will do a good job protecting your RC bearing! Give it a try, you have nothing to lose. Another product that works well is "RemOil" that also contains teflon and offers great protection as well. I hope you see this and try this stuff because it works! I also use it on all of my fishing reels and it extends their lives, preventing wear...
Hi Kevin thanks to your unique tip on how to remove a broken screw I the xmaxx diff . By applying heat to the screw. Works great no problem taking it out. It all because of you that I am a proud owner of thee greatest basher today the xmaxx8s . Your friend in the USA.

Great job Kev , I don't think I would have remembered how to put it together again ..I've learned so much from you , Thank you and keep up the great work .... Mark G ....
Got a little tip for u kev. The bearings that go in aluminum, use a dab of anti-sieze. So if it happens that they rusty up again like that, its not such a fight to get them out. Ive destroyed knuckles tryin to get bearings out. Steel on aluminum currodes (i know its not spelled right lol).
Hey Kevin! This video was a very useful tip, cuz my broth broth is thinking about getting paddle tires for his stampede 4x4, to drive across our Nana’s pond. Well just wanted to comment on the video, I’ve got the tama flu so I can’t go drive my new maxx. Well keep up the good work and have a good night! 💤
Kev, my understanding is that rubber seals are better at sealing than metal shields however the metal shields privide less resistance and are better for high RPM applications.
Great video Kev! My Stampede went for a swim yesterday so will be rebuilding that this week, I did go mad with the grease last rebuild though so hopefully won’t be too bad!
Kevin, love the build and fix vids keep it up, just wanted to say I'm a subscriber from Ohio in the US and I have used a product called evapo rust to clean rusty parts and screws and it does an amazing job! I'm not sure if it's available directly in the UK, but you should try to find some for soaking small rusty stuff more thoroughly. I get it here at a place called harbor freight tools, but try online it would be worth it to you! Its environmentally friendly, skin friendly and not a harsh acid... try it !! Keep it up, cant wait to see mods and fixes on the Raminator! Say hello to all your friends for me!!
I have submerged my traxxxas stampede 4x4 Vxl in lake near where I live. The motor still works. Only thing I have had to replace is the esc months later.
Hey buddy great videos, keep em rolling! , I might have a better idea then rebuilding the bearings . I take a blow dryer and fast dry it after a water run. It's not perfect but it does help prolong the bearings. Also oil filled bearings help repel the water a good bit as well.
I was playing with my slash 4x4 ultimate in the rain same thing happened didn’t know what to do so I kinda stopped with the hobby but when it was fixed i absolutely loved it now it’s broken broke his Traxxas arm so now I’m going to be putting the rpm rear arm on it
Im 43 and actually what stalled me in hobby years ago the velinion esc woukd fry using in rain and close 200 to replace imagine that 170 just for esc i didnt really use computers and was raising kids so at time had take a break you guys dont know how easy cheap and accessible rc is now compared 15 yrs ago
Kev your work shop vids are allways packed with information and tips love it, can also appreciate the time that goes into creating a wreching vid 🤔, I've driven a few Traxxas slashes but recently got a Amma Mojave have to be most durable and best handling short course 🤘
If your gonna be using drills on your rc cars, i would HIGHLY recommend MIP speed bits, as the TEAM C bits will over time become garbage, and start to strip screws, MIP has the best bits on the market ( This is all from experience )
Nice. Another wrench video. Loved it. Shuddered a little when I saw you put Traxxas bearings back into it. I've found them a bit meh on occasions. Luckily enough for me locally I can source some slightly better grade stuff, plus here in Australia, hobbyshops charge like a wounded bull. More of these wrenching montages. Thanks for the share.
Kev, I have upgraded my HBX Devastator wheels and tyres with the ones that go on the FTX Outback mini v2.0 and it now climbs up some crazy angles. It does make it look like one of those mud bog trucks you see Americans driving but the fact it now crawls much better and can climb steeper angles is just wicked. I would love to hear what you think of the upgrade and when the new shocks I've ordered for it arrive I'll post a picture on your facebook page.
Great restoration vid brother Kev!👊Yeah a rusty rc is not good!😂If I ever go through water or wash my trucks off a good air compressor dry afterwards and blast of Silicone lubricant on the whole truck and into the bearings solves all! Love the body! SUPER cool! BASH On brotha!!😎💪👊👊🍻🤘
I've used my slash 4x4 in the rain, hydroplaning on a river, and I've packed it with snow for 3 years and I've only had to buy a motor rebuild kit. I haven't completely submerged it but it's definitely been very very wet. My friend submerged his rustler 2wd and the only thing he had to replace was the brushed motor
Wd 40 does displace water but doesn’t stick around long at all, please try Corrosion X, it dries and leaves a water barrier, I’ve used it exclusively for 3+ years on all my electronics, and metal parts, so rust and haven’t had to replace any electronics.. it works!
8:40 that is not enough grease you have to fill the diff with grease because when it spins it will throw the grease off the gears Hope this was useful!
I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. If you fill that casing with grease the truck will have trouble even moving and because there's no o ring on that housing grease will get everywhere
How to avoid bearing seize. Rinse the car really well with hose water after submerging, and let it air dry in the sun or a space heater. Lastly give a spray with WD40 Silicon spray. It smells nice and makes the car shiny as well while keeping rust at a minimum.
But they are built like a tanks lmfao. Replace the odd bit with rpm and mine survived a crash into a lamp post full speed lol all I had to do is put the tire back on and was working fine.
