    I feel like people that haven’t eaten good ice cream wouldn’t spend $12 on a pint. I love ice cream, my favorite ice cream shop at the moment is honeycomb creamery in Cambridge, MA. It’s about $10 for a pint and I don’t mind paying that because all their ingredients are locally sourced and have amazing flavors!

      I actually don't think that is true. I wouldn't be surprised if he did eat super premium brand ice cream. Honestly, the Graham comments about not buying expensive ice cream are to say bluntly completely idiotic. Why? The reason is because they are taking something that applies to coffee and applying it to ice cream. For a lot of people coffee is a daily consumption while ice cream should be an occasional treat. If you really are buying enough ice cream to the point where $20 ice cream ruins you financially over $4 ice cream, I think diabetes should probably be bigger worry for you than retirement.

    Honestly, if it gets that expensive, you could go to a local ice cream shop to get fresh ice cream. A lot of them sell pints or tubs of ice cream as well that's much higher quality and it's supporting local businesses at the very least.

    I love ice cream and I can usually just sit and eat a pint at a time. I've had $10+ ice cream, some of the brands mentioned here, and tried many of their exotic flavors. I can also comfortably afford the more expensive ice cream, but in terms of price vs. satisfaction, they are completely not worth it. I'm just as happy eating a $5 HD pint. There is a clear difference between cheap supermarket brands and premium brands, but once you get to $5-6 a pint, anything extra you're not paying for the taste.

    • @12012channel
      @12012channel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. I think stuff like McConnell's is worth the price but I don't think Haggen Daz is worth the price they ask. Stuff like McConnell's and Jeni's is good for a once in a while occasion when I really want to treat myself. Haggen Daz is pretty meh. More expensive than regular ice cream but not that much better. Yes, it is cheaper than super premium but it leaves somewhat disappointed that I did pay more for stuff like McConnell's. If I just want ice cream I can go Tillamook for something cheaper. I might be bias against Haggen Daz because mint chip is my favorite flavor and theirs was imo kind of terrible. The base ice cream was great but they way they did the chocolate chips completely ruined it for me.

    I've tried that first one Ample Hill? While it's good it is not worth nearly $10 a pint. Yes it's fresh but when it's hot outside all ice cream will taste good.

    • @12012channel
      @12012channel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, the consensus is that Ample Hills went way down hill after expansion. Yes, most brands, even stuff like Jeni's have probably gone down hill slightly in quality because expansion . It is pretty hard to avoid when you want to expand. However, the general feeling with Ample Hills is that the quality took a complete nose dive. They started using gums and cutting corners and cost with ingredients. They are seen as something that once was and a model on what not to do if you want to expand as super premium brand. They are pretty much seen as just another ice cream brand now.

    I understand why many do not want to spend a lot on ice cream. And I’m completely on the Graham team. But I think if you can afford it and you enjoy it. It’s definitely something worth buying. There is a local ice cream shop I go to. Where servings are small and prices are higher. But it just tastes soo much better then typical ice cream. My favorite, mint chocolate chip, really feels like you are eating a mint leaf itself. So I think if you can splurge, enjoy it. We only have so much time on Earth. Be smart with your finances, but treat yourself to deliciousness from time to time.

    Yes it is totally worth it!! But obviously not every week. I LOVE Van Leeuwens unique vegan flavors and its $11 a pint. I also love yoga-urt in Los Angeles and its $11 a pint but it's all organic and locally sourced. Super fresh and you taste a difference. You do sometimes get what you pay for! But I only ever buy expenaive pints at the most like once a month or every other month or two. If I am craving sweets on the regular, homemade brownies are cheap to make or store brand ice cream does the trick! It's really just about satisfying that sweet tooth craving, which even fruit can do.

Last year I tried peppermint stick from McConnell's this time, I think I will go with egg nog.

    As a millennial, I don't spend extra money on ice cream because of its over the top flavors. I simply want dairy-free ice cram and unfortunately dairy-free everything is super expensive. Dairy-free cheese, dairy-free mayo, dairy-free cookies, etc are all more expensive than their dairy counterparts. My finances have recently taken a great fall and I can no longer worry about which dairy-free ice cream brand I want to buy when I have bigger worries such as how am I going to afford my next meal? Because of this, I can no longer see myself buying expensive ice cream. It's just not worth it knowing how many groceries I can buy instead and how many nutritious meals I can make from them. It's cheaper for me to just make a sweet dairy-free treat than to buy one. The shortage of vanilla is a serious problem, but other than that, I just can't understand why these brands are charging so much. It's really ridiculous. There's got to be a better way to ethically source ingredients, appropriately pay workers and create good quality ice cream for reasonable prices.

    You will never see these companies making bigger sizes than pints. Some "may" pay $12 for a pint but they will never ever pay $24 for a quart. Ever. These are "fads". Most will only pay up to about $6 a pint. Better to support your local ice cream shops. Cheaper. Better for the local economy.
