Weirdest thing for me is that after I watched this video when it was originally posted, I started seeing Fitzcarraldo references everywhere. And I hadn't even heard of this movie before.
Dear Matt and Craig, Just wanted to say that the show is awsome and look forward to every episode. Even though the episodes are only on average about 15 min. I fell as though I was there and watched the movie with you guys on the old leather couch! I believe that I can speak for everyone watching and say that every new installment is funny, informative and a treat to watch. Keep it up guys and I I only hope there will be a season 2...
This made such a lasting impression on me when I watched it sometime in the early teens. The scene with pulling the boat up a cliff is stuck to my mind forever. Guess I have to watch it again soon, so thanks for this :)
This has seriously become one of my favorite series. I love the episodes where I've already seen the movie y'all are watching so I can relate, but I think I like the ones I haven't seen even more because I get to hear about movies I doubt I ever would have if I didn't see it here.
I was telling my dad about America's Caveman Ron Perlman just the other day! Such a classic bit, I'd forgotten how many of the recurring bits started this early
also i decided to watch Paint Your Wagon it was such a good movie i went out of my way to get the soundtrack when your depressed and sing a can of beans and the best things in life are dirty you get a feel for everything plus every guy knows playing in the dirt is always fun so thank you for showing me this amazingt 3 hour long movie....yes i did take breaks in between ....including during the intermission lol good job guys :D
I love Welcome to the Basement, its really and its like sitting next to you guys watching a movie. It might be hard to find but the canadian zombie movie Pontypool (2008). It very different and thrilling and inventive. Even if you dont review it is a must see! keep up the great work
OOOHH! I've finally figured out which movie you should watch! I'm excited about it because it's a really really cool movie. It is "Sita Sings the Blues."
Hi Guys! :D Just wanted to share with you that while at an Academic Challenge meet, the final question of the match that would decide who would win the entire tournament or not was about this movie :) I was able to win, only through your pure awesomeness! Thank you so much!
FANTASTIC EPISODE.GREAT FILM. I'm hesitant to suggest this, since I'm not certain you would consider reviewing a silent film, but I still have to ask... Have you both seen THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI?
Great episode!!! I really feel like I should go see Fitzcarraldo now although it isn't my normal interest. I still wish you guys would watch The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension if you haven't seen it.
Two suggestions from Australian cinema that are favorites down there, though they are newer than what you've been showing. Kenny - haven't met anyone who saw and didn't enjoy this movie though few have seen it. Mockumentary about a guy taking care of porta potties. The Castle - Classic underdog story
Just finished watching Fitzcarraldo, guys. Have to say I agree that the movie felt a bit slow to me, but overall I found it rather fascinating. Love the show!
I would humbly suggest The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. I remember reading ads for the movie in Marvel comic books when I was growing up, and never managed to persuade anyone to go and see it. When I was older, I was stunned at the madness of the entire production - and I hope you will be as well. ...but you've probably Seen It!
How about some early John Carpenter. His 1974 sci-fi comedy "Dark Star" is a ton of fun if taken with a pinch of salt. Loving the work guys, keep it up.
If you'd like to see Michael Crichton do something different from Jurassic Park, you could try 1978's The Great Train Robbery, which he directed based on his own novel, starring Sean Connery, Donald Sutherland, and Lesley-Anne Down.
Hey guys, I think it would be interesting if you saw a concert film, namely Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same". It'd be different to do a movie like that, but possibly in a good way?
The thing I found most interesting about this movie was the dragging the boat over the hill...I was so interested I got the DVD that goes into great detail about how they actually drug the boat over the hill...amazing! Everyone should see 1956 Forbidden Planet with Walter Pidgeon, a young and serious Leslie Nielson, and a very hot Anne Francis...they got away with quite a bit for 1956. I assume a couple of sharp folks like you have seen it, but I am sure many of the commenters haven't.
Great show! I think you guys should watch Return to Oz. It's the sequel (sort of) to the Wizard of Oz, made in 1985. It's a weird one, but oddly very enjoyable (especially if you like puppets and old school effects).
I like how eps are edited down, but any chance you could release extra videos for those who want even more of Welcome to the Basement? Perhaps with some bonus footage of clips of you guys while on the ol' leather couch?
I have yet to see Fitzcarraldo, however I've seen Aguirre, also starring Kinski in the Amazon rain forest, though this time as a Spanish Conquistador. Awesome movie!
Hey! Jurassic Park is my favorite book and movie of all time you guys! (referring to Matt and Craig) And I hope you realized that Crichton has since passed.
For SCENE IT can I suggest - Come And See (1981) After finding an old rifle, a young boy joins the Soviet Army and experiences the horrors of World War II. Also Smilla's Sense Of Snow.(1997) Mysery/Suspense story surrounding the death of a young boy who fell from a roof. A neighbor believes it was murder since the boy was afraid of heights. Also, nice episode. I haven't seen Fitzcarraldo but I saw the documentary (Burden Of Dreams) which was very inspiring to watch.
How are you guys able to show clips of the movie? I thought that there were copyright issues, that limit use not permitted by the owners of the film rights.
One of my favorite shows on youtube atm. Keep up the good reviews and don`t change the concept where it counts. But why limit to movies? Explore the world of obscure/rare documentarys and share your thoughts?
Hi guys. I watched the Megaforce review, and noticed the mention of the realtime scene. It made me wonder if you would consider watching a film called The Nick of Time, with Johnny Depp. If you haven't seen it already, it's a thriller, that can be classed as a bottle movie (something also mentioned in one of your videos), and is all in realtime. I found it hard watching, but a good film
i Enjoyed the delay in the joke that ends "..or not". I think Matt said Fitz plays music that solves the anger issue of the natives, Craig says something about the movie seen having everything it needs, then the spear comes through the ship.
I highly recommend the film, "The Fall," directed by Tarsem Singh, starring Lee Pace and Catinca Untaru. It's a movie not many seem to know about and it's a movie more people ought to watch!
Oh, this is a great series. I'm gonna suggest the 2000 Japanese horror/action film "Versus" by Ryuhei Kitamura. It's one of the most psychotic and awesome movies I've ever seen. Even if you have seen it, I would love to hear your take on the ending. It really lost me.
Don't know if you guys are that much into the genre, but check out Byosoku 5 Centimeters (5 Centimeters per Second)(2007) by Makoto Shinkai. One of the finest stories of love and loss I've ever seen.
(If you haven't already) You guys should really watch Sam Peckinpah's - 'Bring me the Head of Alfredo Garcia'. Warren Oates best performance (a close second is his performance as Sergeant Hulka in 'Stripes') It is a great movie for Welcome to the Basement.
Please do one of my all-time favorites, Fandango (1985). The directorial debut of Kevin Reynolds, it bombed at the box office, in my opinion, because it had an awful trailer that made people think it was a wild, college, road trip movie, and was instead a deeply compelling look into the transition to manhood. The soundtrack, which you cannot buy, is also amazing. Judd Nelson and Suzy Amis' debut films and Kevin Costner's first, and possibly best, lead role.
SUGGESTION!!!! have you seen the 2006 film Grandmas Boy', one of the fiew hilarious films ive seen that i could watch over and over again and it would still be funny XD
I'm going to once again suggest that you guys watch Alan Parker's "The Commitments" It's really wonderful and has a cast made up of mostly non-actors who actually sing and play their own instruments.
I've been able to work in a legitimate reason based on the content of the episode to recommend the following movie for 4 months now, but I can't for this one. So, I'll just recommend it. Arsenic and Old Lace!
Have either of you gentlemen seen the Metalocalypse episode "Dethcarraldo" which has a scene taken almost entirely from this movie? Thanks for allowing me to get that reference.
Fun Fact: Kinski, in 2013, was accused by his eldest daughter, Pola, of incest and sexually abusing her. These accusation were also supported by his younger daughter, Nastassja.[
I can't believe this has been 8 years. This was the episode that sold me on the concept. Thank you for the years of entertainment!
10 years now. Hard to believe.
@@Trevin_Taylor but sadly soon to be without Craig
@@Rhewin Also one of my first episodes. Just rewatched. The crowning of America's Caveman.
Weirdest thing for me is that after I watched this video when it was originally posted, I started seeing Fitzcarraldo references everywhere. And I hadn't even heard of this movie before.
i love when matt is presenting the movies, Craig"s anticipation and reaction is always so great
'I don't think the birds sing, they just screech in pain' What a quote
Dear Matt and Craig,
Just wanted to say that the show is awsome and look forward to every episode. Even though the episodes are only on average about 15 min. I fell as though I was there and watched the movie with you guys on the old leather couch! I believe that I can speak for everyone watching and say that every new installment is funny, informative and a treat to watch. Keep it up guys and I I only hope there will be a season 2...
I've never had such a good time watching someone watch a movie.
This is my new favorite Web Series, hands down!
19 minutes just flew by, y'all have a great show!
Aaaahhhh this is the origin of 'Ron Perlman; America's cave man'! (just watching the series again...)
I want Matt Sloan's hair. Not like, on a platter or something. Just hair like his.
I can't express how much I enjoy this series. Thanks again, guys.
These get better and better, can't wait for the next one!
This made such a lasting impression on me when I watched it sometime in the early teens. The scene with pulling the boat up a cliff is stuck to my mind forever. Guess I have to watch it again soon, so thanks for this :)
Love the show guys have you seen the unsung movie The Man From Earth
That Herzog clips about him talking about the trees being in pain.
Gorgeous.
This is the best thing on youtube.
This has seriously become one of my favorite series. I love the episodes where I've already seen the movie y'all are watching so I can relate, but I think I like the ones I haven't seen even more because I get to hear about movies I doubt I ever would have if I didn't see it here.
I hope you guys do a season 2 next year :) Watching movies I have never heard of and having you guys analyze the film afterwords is very interesting.
Finally watched Fitzcorraldo, you guys definitely got it.
I love this show, please do more,
I was telling my dad about America's Caveman Ron Perlman just the other day! Such a classic bit, I'd forgotten how many of the recurring bits started this early
Entertaining and relaxing to watch, and getting some movie suggestions to watch when I'm bored... a pleasant experience... =3
also i decided to watch Paint Your Wagon it was such a good movie i went out of my way to get the soundtrack when your depressed and sing a can of beans and the best things in life are dirty you get a feel for everything plus every guy knows playing in the dirt is always fun so thank you for showing me this amazingt 3 hour long movie....yes i did take breaks in between ....including during the intermission lol good job guys :D
Saw it at the cinema yesterday, what an experience! This'll be fun :D
I love Welcome to the Basement, its really and its like sitting next to you guys watching a movie. It might be hard to find but the canadian zombie movie Pontypool (2008). It very different and thrilling and inventive. Even if you dont review it is a must see! keep up the great work
You guys have excellent in-depth film analyses
OOOHH! I've finally figured out which movie you should watch! I'm excited about it because it's a really really cool movie. It is "Sita Sings the Blues."
I WANT MY OPERA HOUSE!!! Ahh Welcome to the Basement makes me happy in ways nothing else could. Please give us more!!!
I absolutely love this series, keep it up. I would like to know if you guys have seen Michael Mann's Thief.
Have you seen The Good, The Bad, & The Weird? Incredible action packed Korean film.
Hi Guys! :D
Just wanted to share with you that while at an Academic Challenge meet, the final question of the match that would decide who would win the entire tournament or not was about this movie :) I was able to win, only through your pure awesomeness! Thank you so much!
Yes,this is what basement, should be,two men who know what they are talking about when it comes to the art of movie making, well done
I think this is my favorite episode so far.. I think you're just beginning to hit your stride.
FANTASTIC EPISODE.GREAT FILM.
I'm hesitant to suggest this, since I'm not certain you would consider reviewing a silent film, but I still have to ask...
Have you both seen
THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI?
I will continue to hold out hope that one day the two of you will watch Wild Zero.
This is a great series!
I love this series you're doing.
Man I love this show.
Great episode!!! I really feel like I should go see Fitzcarraldo now although it isn't my normal interest. I still wish you guys would watch The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension if you haven't seen it.
Fitzcarraldo is great, but Aguirre is even better.
You guys need to see The Love Bug. Its a great movie with a cool car. What more could you want!
one of the crewmen played vadhino in pumaman
Mayan Thor! What a career.
i knew he looked familiar
Two suggestions from Australian cinema that are favorites down there, though they are newer than what you've been showing.
Kenny - haven't met anyone who saw and didn't enjoy this movie though few have seen it. Mockumentary about a guy taking care of porta potties.
The Castle - Classic underdog story
Are you guys releasing these every two weeks now?
Because if so, keep it up! I love this series!
Watch it. You must! I love the hell out of that movie.
Just finished watching Fitzcarraldo, guys. Have to say I agree that the movie felt a bit slow to me, but overall I found it rather fascinating. Love the show!

Hey guys! Love the show! I was wondering if you have seen Ralph Bakshi's, Fire and Ice?
You guys should also see the Back to the Future movies. They are my 4th favorite movie series and it has a somewhat crazy looking scientist.
I love this series of videos! did you already say you saw Zardoz?
I'm recommending this because it's on MY list of movies I need to see but haven't yet, and I'd be interested to hear your analysis: "Donnie Darko".
I WANT MY OPERA HOUSE!!!!!!!!
and also a I WANT MY OPERA HOUSE t-shirt
Have you seen The Signal? I saw it on Starz at like 4 am and it blew me away.
This show makes me want to watch more movies! :D
This is definitely one of the classic WttB episodes
Are you related to Putney Swope? If not, check out the movie by the same name.
good job guys

Awesome!!
This, in my opinion, is the best episode of Welcome to the Basement so far. The movie is unique, the analyzation is terrific , and the comedy is gold.
I love this series. I hope it continues for a very long time. Have you seen "Electric Dreams"?
Herzog is one the my personal favorite and greatest director of all time
You guys should see the movie Four Rooms and or In the Mouth of Madness, I enjoyed both greatly.
14:27 8 1/2, with the construction of the enormous structure that Fellini began before he even knew what it would be used for.
Hey! Jurassic Park is my favorite book and movie of all time you guys! (referring to Matt and Craig) And I hope you realized that Crichton has since passed.
I saw this film in a college geography class. probably the best course I ever attended.
For SCENE IT can I suggest -
Come And See (1981)
After finding an old rifle, a young boy joins the Soviet Army and experiences the horrors of World War II.
Also Smilla's Sense Of Snow.(1997) Mysery/Suspense story surrounding the death of a young boy who fell from a roof. A neighbor believes it was murder since the boy was afraid of heights.

I've yet to watch Fitzcarraldo, but I love and have watched Burden of Dreams a few times.
How are you guys able to show clips of the movie? I thought that there were copyright issues, that limit use not permitted by the owners of the film rights.
Actually this movie feels like an alternate Heart of Darkness, want to watch
One of my favorite shows on youtube atm. Keep up the good reviews and don`t change the concept where it counts. But why limit to movies? Explore the world of obscure/rare documentarys and share your thoughts?
Love the show. I would like to suggest that you guys watch Timerider: The Adventure Of Lyle Swann.
2008 movie Departures is one of my favorites, have you seen it?
Have you seen the old silent movie classic Metropolis? Great movie!

11:28-11:46 - "The trees here are misery and the birds are in misery. I don't think they sing, they screech in pain" - LMAO!!! :)
18:17 marks the birth of Thee Iconic quote WTTBers say when mentioning Ron Perlman, "America's Caveman" 💀
The guy that he met in the railroad is Grande Otelo , Brazilian actor very well know , he passes away some years ago.
i Enjoyed the delay in the joke that ends "..or not".
It's a movie not many seem to know about and it's a movie more people ought to watch!
i wish i had cool friends like you guys
Oh, this is a great series.
I'm gonna suggest the 2000 Japanese horror/action film "Versus" by Ryuhei Kitamura. It's one of the most psychotic and awesome movies I've ever seen.

7:15 I just realized that's the guy who played the mentor in The Pumaman
I'm going to once again suggest that you guys watch Alan Parker's "The Commitments" It's really wonderful and has a cast made up of mostly non-actors who actually sing and play their own instruments.
Have you guys seen Mr. Holland's Opus? If not, I really suggest you watch it will bring up great topics for discussion.
Watch Everything is Illuminated. It may be quite recent (2005), and have Elijah Wood in it, but it is absolutely wonderful.
My thoughts, exactly. RIP Michael Crichton!!!
Fun Fact: Kinski, in 2013, was accused by his eldest daughter, Pola, of incest and sexually abusing her. These accusation were also supported by his younger daughter, Nastassja.[
